  1. I LOVE this!

Warm, rich, thick coffee with heady exotic spicy rose. This is just gorgeous on, and so well blended that it is a very natural scent, like I am sitting in a cafe with a huge arrangement of roses - those huge non-hybrid ones, with petals falling everywhere - and a cup of strong, rich, VERY sweet coffee in front of me.

    :wub2:

ETA: ok, I just looked at the notes again. When I looked up Damascene Rose, that is exactly the rose I pictured. And I agree that it is pink. And buhur is incense? From what I could find out. That is the smoky spice that is peeking out in the background!

  2. Skin chemistry is so weird! And while I have had some minor examples of this, Miss Spink is a MAJOR skin chemistry weirdo. (Keep in mind this is fresh out of the mailbox). Freshly applied, I get floral cookies. Drying down, I get this odd tea/cookie/floral combination. Then, completely dry, I get....

    Red Lace.

In a side by side comparison, Red Lace is slightly more sweet, Miss Spink is slightly more smoky. But so similar!

  3. Wet, the almond in this is almost overwhelming on my skin, similar to the almond in The Organ Grinder (which ruined that scent for me, :cry2: )

I get almost nothing of any of the other notes, just ALMOND stomping all over everything.

As it starts to dry down, the leather starts peeking out, a soft, worn leather, blending with the almond (Thank gods) to tone down ALMOND into something not so trompy and pencil shaving-y. I can detect a little of the vanilla, and something woody that isn't the almond, but sadly, no patchouli.

Overall, this is a gorgeous scent, and I am so glad that I have a bottle, but I don't think it will every be a favorite - for leather, Crowley wears much better on my skin, without the ALMOND, and I don't get enough bourbon vanilla or patch to make it something that I will reach for constantly. But I am very interested to see how it ages, and how it layers. :D

  4. No sludge in mine at all!

In the bottle, I get a lot of lemon blossom - custardy lemon blossom.

Wet, I can pick out an edge of cocoa and rose, but still mostly light custardy lemon blossom.

As it starts drying down, the rose and oudh come forward a little, but it stays light, with nothing really dominating the blend.

Dry, no chocolate or bourbon vanilla. Very close to the skin, mostly rose and lemon blossom at this point.

Overall, I get light, fresh lemony, creamy floral. It's lovely, and I am so glad I have a bottle, but I have to admit that I was hoping to be able to pick out tons of chocolate and bourbon vanilla! I think this will be perfect for summer.

  5. I have had this bottle for almost six months, and haven't reviewed yet?

This is an incredibly well blended scent, but I can get whiffs of each seperate floral depending on how far away from my arm I am sniffing. Close, it is mostly hyacinth, and then as I move farther away (like normal wrist-length to my nose) I am getting wafts of tuberose, jasmine and hyacinth. I think the tea and rosehips add a freshness, a lightness to this scent, and the sandalwood grounds it.

Light, airy, lovely floral. Not too overpowering, very elegant.

  6. Fresh out of the mailbox (and it is chilly today, I didn't even wait for it to warm up!) : to my nose, this is reminiscent of Tattered Lace more than any others, but I definitely get the Falling Leaf Moon leaf scent (which I was hoping for!) Absolutely gorgeous, vaguely "perfumey" with the addition of that gorgeous leafy note.

I think the cognac reads as "perfumey" on my skin, not in a bad way, but more perfumey than boozey. Tattered Lace and Black Lace both had that same backnote on me, but weirdly so does Red Lace. So maybe it's some particular "Lace" note? Good thing I like it! :D

I will retest when it has settled from its journey a little and post any changes.... but so far, Falling Leaf Lace!

  7. Oh, how I love Heretic! The first time I tried it, it won an immediate top ten slot.

I think "decadent, deep and gorgeous" describes it perfectly. It is sweet, resiny, stunning but an unobtrusive scent - not that it doesn't have decent longevity/throw, but I think it is "unobtrusive" in the way that someone might think "I smell something really good" instead of "someone's perfume smells really good".

I can't wait to see how this ages - it is already so gorgeous and I only got it three days ago. Aged, this will be one to treasure! The frank is a touch sharp in the bottle, but don't let that scare you - it mellows out on my skin immediately.

And it goes BEAUTIFULLY with Snake Oil. Just sayin'. :D

  8. I get Lambs-Wool cheesecake also! From start to finish, that exactly describes this incarnation of Beaver Moon. I get all the creaminess and spice and rich apple from Lambs-Wool, with the bonus of CHEESECAKE!! :D

This is my favorite since Beaver'versary. Absolutely delicious and just gorgeous.

    :wub2:

  9. Spiced tea, leather, liquidambar, and labdanum.

Really pretty straightforward - and really lovely.

All the notes are present and accounted for on my skin - and blend together to make a leather/tea/spice/amber-y haze.
At first I get the tea, with cinnamon? The scent of the spices remindsme of the Good Earth Sweet & Spicy tea blend, and the spices in that tea are cinnamon, lemongrass, peppermint, anise, ginger & orange peel. Not that I can pick out any of those!! Just that I get that same sweet/spicy tea feeling from this. The leather is warm and worn, definitely brown leather. Both liquidambar and labdanum are supposed to be reminiscent of ambergris, and I am absolutely getting that in the background - that may be what is making the leather seem worn and soft to me. They are just warming and softening everything up.

So, overall - warm, sweet, spicy tea & leather. :yum: I really like this blend, and I am not usually a fan of tea scents. I think the spices make the difference.

  10. Not a purchasing answer, but depending on when/how long you will be in the area, there is a Meet & Sniff planned for 9/16 at Tyson's Corner Mall - the thread is here. Tyson's Corner is in Virginia, outside of DC - don't know where you will be but we would LOVE to see you there!

You would get to sniff lots of things, including unimpables - and I'm sure if there are any you are interested in sniffing in particular, someone would be able to bring them along! (I know I could bring War and Countess Willie for you to try, for example - at least you would able to know if you want to order them!)

  11. Temple viper is what started all this! I love it, and it made me realize that all the resin oils I get, what I really want are sugar incense! Like temple viper, but with amber and plum! = snake charmer:)

Now I just need to find one available!

Ha, sorry! I have been dipping in and out of this thread whenever I saw new posts, and completely forgot what whas the original love! I put on some Temple Viper today and thought, "hmmmmm.... sugared incense"!

And I hve been following the posts for the same reason..... love, love the sugar + incense combination!

  12. I love Snake Charmer Res! My other favorite sugared incense and (hopefully, HOPEFULLY) available again soon when the CD comes back, is Temple Viper:

Snake Oil with sugar cane, frankincense, champaca, opoponax, labdanum, and hyssop

The incense seems similar on my skin, but it could be the vanilla + exotic spices that they both share!

  13. So much amaretto! A lovely liqueor, a little maraschino cherry but mostly boozy amaretto. As it dries down on me, I get the chocolate from chocolate covered cherries, with the amaretto. Absolutely like eating from a box of chocolate covered cherries, sipping a snifter of warmed Amaretto. Delicious.

  14. So happy I won this on ebay! I have been wanting a bottle for ages.

In the bottle.... like warm cherry pie with vanilla ice cream.

on.....pure cherry lollipop. With something else underneath.....as it warms and melds with my skin, I get..... I don't know - almost cherry tootsie pop? That hint of chocolate in the middle? I think that's it. Warmer than just cherry candy, but not really chocolate.... I keep huffing my arm to try to figure it out!

    I think that's it - Cherry Tootsie Pops. :D

    :yum:

  15. I received this in yesterday's mail, and wanted to wait until today to do a full review (dry v. wet hair).

My hair is very fine, color treated, highlighted, and Brazilian-Blowout'd. (Hey, I'm a hairdresser,). I am glad that others mentioned that their bottles didn't seem to "mist" as much as "stream" - mine does too. So last night on my dry hair, I got a little too much on one side,

And so I did want to try this morning on my wet hair, a squirt into the palm of my hand, rub my hands together and then apply starting with the ends. Then I blow-dried not using any other products, and then when my hair was dry, about another 1/2 squirt into my hands and lightly run my hands through my hair.

I love this! My hair is shiny and smooth, and of course, smells goooooooood! My hair feels good, not greasy or anything, healthy and smooth. And shiny! I didn't need any other products for blowdrying, and the scent is rich and true, like SOBO. Love, love.

OH, but don't forget, as Puddin' mentioned in the BPTP thread: SHAKE the bottle before you apply! It does setttle/seperate like the SOBO. This is a wonderful, yummy product, well worth the money! Go get some!

  16. I always use the bath oils as after shower moisturizers. :D

This is wonderful, wonderful sugary sweetness, and reminds me so much of my much-loved Zombie Apocolypse! I am getting the light jammy red fruit and carmelized cotton candy that I get from ZA. Not the exact same, but similar on my skin.

    I will need moar.

  17. The 2011 version is drier and more "linen-y" on me than either 2009 or 2010. I guess I am getting more of the cotton sheets - I really am getting a vanilla cotton smell!

Still the sweet, creamy vanilla that I love so much, but not AS sweet or creamy. But still an all time favorite!

  18. From the listed notes, I really thought this would be instant :love!: for me. However.......

All I get is.... pot. Marijuana.

And it doesn't morph in any way. It took me a while to figure out what it was the The Triumph of Death reminded me of, but once I figured it out, that was all I could smell! I even tried layering a little Snake Oil over it to see what would happen, but the Snake Oil was stomped down (!).

Off to the swaps. Single note marijuana is just ... not me.

  19. This was very light on me, mainly faint apples with a little floral in the background. After about fifteen minutes, it turned to laundry soap on me.... and then after an hour, it was gone. <sigh> I had such hopes!

I even tried twice, just to make sure. The same exact thing, the same exact timeline. I'm glad this is off to a more loving home!
