    The Final Darkness

I am getting mainly very dark and heavy resins with a slight aquatic undercurrent. I can't usually tell resins apart very well, so to me it's a mish-mash of resinous notes that's nonetheless rather pleasant. There's a teensy tiny hint of something floral that I assume is the moonflower, but it never gets prominent enough to notice unless you know it's supposed to be there. On the whole, however, it's much too dark a scent for me to wear regularly, but Im glad I got to try a decant!

    The Fimbul Winter

This one sadly doesn't have much staying power on me, but for as long as it does last it smells sharp and fresh and sort of minty. I would have guessed the snow note would be more like the one in Nuclear Winter, but it's actually quite different, albeit still very fresh. Almost green, I would say. That's pretty much all I get from it, and it fades quickly into a very skin-close mint. It's definitely pleasant, but not the sort of snow scent I would usually go for, so I think my decant is enough.

    The Ship of Hel

This is sweet and fresh snow on me - much like the snow note in Skadi. There is an undercurrent of woods and saltiness as well. It isn't a very complex blend, and really mainly snowy and cold. I'm glad I got to try this, as it's quite pretty, but in the end I don't need another snow blend.

Scent Recs based on your PERSONALITY!

Thanks for the recommendations, Amber Tears! A lot of those I haven't tried before, so they are going on my list Heh, also, glad you liked the tea. It is pretty good! I hope you can find more where you live.

    Leather

I would like to add some love for Picture Books in Winter, which starts of very foody and almost pure caramel, but dries down to a very nice warm leather. I would definitely describe it as unisex, too.

Scent Recs based on your PERSONALITY!

I'd like to try this For those of you interested in the sort of thing, I'm a Capricorn, and a Tiger in the Chinese Zodiac. I'm 27 and majoring in Japanese Studies, although my dream is to work in a museum restoring cultural artifacts. I'm a bit of a nerd about historical and old things and have a weakness for the great Asian empires of old. I also like anything sciencey and try to keep myself updated on new discoveries and so on. I enjoy reading, but unfortunately I don't get to very often at the moment. My favorite author is Neil Gaiman, and I mostly read books in the fantastical genres. The same thing goes for movies, although I enjoy all genres. I also enjoy creative things like sewing and painting. I have a totally overactive imagination and dream a lot, too - usually extremely vivid and interesting plot-wise, never really about things from my own life, for some reason... I generally prefer a cosy day at home with a pot of steaming tea to partying, and I feel uncomfortable around too many people I don't know. I have a small network, but I treasure the few close friends I have with all my heart and feel lucky to know them. I tend to be drawn towards silly or cute things for some reason. I suppose a life philosophy of mine would be that there's no need to make already mundane things even more boring - so I always get brightly colored and silly kitchenware and things like that! My love of cuteness and silliness is also a way to combat the prominent melancholy streak to my character. I think deeply about a lot of things, and that tends to make me sad a lot of the time. So in some ways I'm a bit more childish than other people my age, in other ways I'm a bit "older". My looks: I'm 170 cm tall, somewhat chubby, shoulder-length medium blonde hair and blue-green eyes and prominent red glasses. I never wear makeup (I can't be bothered, honestly) or do much about my hair, but I like making an effort with pretty accessories and jewelry, and of course scent! I prefer wearing dresses most of the time. I guess that's about it (I hope it's not too long ). I'm looking forward to hearing your recommendations for me!

How do you apply your BPAL oils?

I prefer having wand caps on my bottles, but for those that I have yet to buy wand caps for I use wooden toothpicks. I don't think there is a risk of contamination, not that I have noticed at least, but it's true that the wood does absorb a great deal of oil. I'm going to get a big stack of wand caps with my next order, for the remaining bottles...

Prelude to the Bath Bath Oil

This was the biggest Luper hit for me this year! It's sweet apricot and gorgeous orange blossom galore! I'm not really getting the white tea, though. It reminds me a little bit of Katharina, which makes sense as they share many notes. Compared to other bath oils I've tried, this one is quite strong. I love it

The Shining Dimple of Love Bath Oil

This one is extremely faint on me. I am mainly getting the tea leaf and not much else. It's quite nice, but I would have hoped for some more vanilla goodness!

    If I like...

If you like spicy blends like Plunder, I would suggest trying Bengal as well! The lab's description: Skin musk with honey, peppers, clove, cinnamon bark and ginger.

    Bewitched

This is a beautiful little explosion of dark berries over a faint undertone of musk. I can't stop sniffing my wrist! It's very sweet and "purple". I'm not getting any green tea or sage underneath the berries, though.
  12. Aviatrix

    Ichabod Crane

This is a very creamy and comforting scent. When I first apply it, I actually get something that, to me, evokes dusty wool! Awesome. Then comes the tea with cream and a tiny bit of beeswax in the background. I'm not really getting any pepper. After a while it settles into a creamy, slightly floral, tea scent that is really quite good. I'm glad I found a bottle and bought it unsniffed - this is really a "me" scent

Scent Recs based on your PERSONALITY!

Maybe you would enjoy Elf from the RPG line, for your outdoorsy, and also aloof qualities? Pale golden musk, honeycomb, amber, parma violet, hawthorne bark, aspen leaf, forest lily, life everlasting, white moss, and a hint of wild berry. Alice might also work; it has a hint of honey for your love of beekeeping: Milk and honey with rose, carnation and bergamot. That's what I thought of off the top of my head

    A Winter Dawn

This has an atmosphere in common with Almond Blossom. I am thinking it is the same kind of snow note in both. Very soft and cold. It blends well with the flowers and just a touch of grapefruit. Overall, it's a pretty little winter floral scent with a wistful overtone of light snow. I quite like it!

    Lyonesse

This starts off quite aquatic, but quickly mellows into a very nice vanilla with a touch of the ocean. I am getting little hints of orris root and sandalwood as well, wafting in and out of focus. This was a surprise morpher for me, and I really like it! It's aquatic without actually being an aquatic scent overall, and it has just the right amount of soft florals to accompany the pretty vanilla, which remains on the central stage.

    Theme in Yellow

Ghost songs and love to the harvest moon: fresh pumpkins warmed by candlelight and aglow with Halloween joy. This is the first pumpkin blend that has actually worked on me! It's pure sweet pumpkin, not too buttery, and very evocative of autumn and halloween, my favorite holiday. It has a huge throw on me and lasts a decent amount of time, too. I think what makes this pumpkin different than the others I've tried is that this one isn't particularly foody, more warm and spicy. Which is good, because I'm not much of a foodie. I am happy I got to test it (and learn that not all pumpkin goes overpowering on me!), but I won't be hunting down a bottle. It's not really the kind of scent I would habitually wear.

    Carp and Octopus

This is a salty, "green" scent with a nice aquatic undertone. I am hard pressed to distinguish the different individual notes, but the overall impression is an ocean scent with a touch of sharp citrus to round it out. Not fruity-fruity citrus, though, just a subtle hint. It's not the kind of scent I would usually wear, but I can definitely appreciate the images it evokes!
  18. Aviatrix

    Koito and Sashichi

I am a bit confused. I was expecting tobacco and oud, but this, on my skin, is basically a green tea single note. Which is pretty enough, since I adore green tea, but there should be some other stuff going on, no? It appears my skin has completely eaten the other notes.

    Furo

I amp patchouli, so I was a little wary of this one before putting it on, since the patchouli was strong in the vial. But as soon as it hits my skin, the patch mellows out a lot and gives way to a very pretty tea-and-bergamot scent that was exactly what I had been hoping it would be! I am not actually getting the balsam or the vanilla; on me, this is nice earl grey with a hint of earthiness from the patchouli. I quite like it, although probably not enough to get a whole bottle. But if like me you are a bit iffy with patchouli, try and give it a shot anyway, it might surprise you!

    The Blooming Flowers of Spring

This one was a big surprise hit for me! I am getting a lot of mimosa, a note I wasn't too familiar with, but it is a beautiful floral. Something in this blend is almost spicy on my skin, and I'm guessing it's the combination of honey and amber that has that effect? Overall, it's a yummy, slightly spiced floral that doesn't have a ton of throw, but stays for a decent amount of time. The notes combine wonderfully, and it is truly a beautiful little spring blend. I might actually consider a bottle.

    Treasure Ship Coming In

It opens up with a blast of mint that seems almost foody, like the mint in the Lick Its, was my thought. After a little while I am getting more of the sweet mandarin. It's very good! I don't actually detect the green tea, which is a little surprising, since green tea tends to amp on my skin. The musk has settled nicely into the background. Aside from hoping there would have been more green tea in this one, it is very nice overall. A fresh springtime scent with the sharpness of the mint would be perfect for a warmer day!

    Wood Horse

In the decant and wet on the skin, this is a blast of citrus notes with a prominent undertone of rice cakes. I was looking forward to the rice cake note, and it did not disappoint; it's very yummy and life-like! As it dries, the citrus fades somewhat and gives way to a more floral feel that I believe is the peony, and the dragon's blood plays along subtly in the background. I am also getting a hint of springtime fresh greenness (probably bamboo) that plays very well with the citrus. I won't be needing a bottle, as it's not the type of scent I would usually wear, but I'm very happy I have a decant, because it's a yummy scent that would also work great on a warmer day!

    Old books... Books, paper, libraries

Hello, fellow book lover! I can unfortunately only comment on The Lurid Library, but I would also be very interested in any insight others can provide on the other book scents annemathematics listed! I was expecting a decant of The Book from a forumite, but I fear it has been lost in the mail.... The Lurid Library, to me, is a very pure paper scent, a little smoky perhaps. It's heavy on the dust, anyway. It's more a book scent than Picture Books in Winter, which on me was mostly caramel with a sub-note of leatherbound books. As a side note, there is also Aziraphale, which I haven't tried yet either, but from the notes listed it sounds like a nice book scent, too: Ethereal musk, blonde woods, and dusty Bible accord.

    Sweet, sweet florals

Of this year's Lupers, Reflected Vulva and Love and Sleep are definitely sweet, sweet florals, and both very pretty. Plovers Above the Waves is also great, but is not a very floral floral, if that makes any sense. It has some floralness to it, though, and is definitely very sweet.

    Diversions in the Chashitsu

I am mostly getting green tea and apple blossom from this. It's light and spring-like and very fresh. There is an edge of green woodsiness that must be a combination of sandalwood and bamboo. The apple blossom is practically like an all-out apple note, but with a floral edge that is quite pretty. The green tea is nice and slightly astringent. I would recommend it for anyone who loves green tea blends!
