    Vampire Tarot: The Fool

    my roomate (non-bpal) smelled this for me at comic Con and stated "Oh! It smells like the inside of a lawnmower!!" [= guess he smelled the green!

    Mouse's Long and Sad Tale

    ~~mouse's sad and long tale~~ Expectations: Mmmmm....i love vanilla and have learned that some musks are good on me, so I was hoping this was a magic elixer for me that would end up being my favorite bottle (don't we wish that for all these imps we try?) In the Imp: a lovely medium vanilla and well chosen musks. Can't wait to put it on. Wet: Oh. Immediately, the musks take over and the vanilla resides in the cheap seats. dang. not what I was hoping for. Dry: Lots and lots of musk and I'm not even sure if the vanilla stayed til the end of the game or if it left to beat the traffic. Here I sit with musks, pining for my vanilla.... Verdict: in the very end this smelled like playdough and hot dogs on me.....yeah, I don't know how it got there either, but I was glad that it had very little throw on me and disappeared fairly quickly. In the meantime, I'll keep searching for that perfect vanilla scent....

    Lovers with Rutting Cats

    ~~Lovers with Rutting Cats~~ I should have known that anything with rutting cats in it would have a strong note in there somewhere.....yeah, I have cats. I should have know. But I had to try!! In the Imp: Interesting....i smelled vanilla and moss. A bit intriguing.... Wet: Oh my. Oudh. I didn't know what it smelled like, but I sure know now!! And it clings to my skin like...well, skin!! This must be the rutting part. Nice choice for the literal translation, but I reckon I was hoping for a more artistic translation on the rutting cat theme. Dry: The oudh has completely taken over my office, and there are several tomcats sitting outside the office door trying to hit the big silver button with the wheelchair on it that automatically opens the doors. I better hide. This could be bad. Verdict: This is WAY to mouldy/musty for me. I guess oudh is the mold that grows inside some specific sort of tree, and that's EXACTLY what this smells like. But I am sending this to my patchouli friend that loves earthy smells....and yes, I'll warn her.

    Giant Vulva

    ~~~Giant Vulva~~ I tried this for the first time at work, and was skeerd that someone might ask me what scent I was wearing....luckily, the throw on me was light, so there was little 'splainen' to do! In the Imp: Warm, musky honey. This must be what bees feel about honey!! Wet: Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm..... this is gooooooooood!!! I'm getting the perfect mix of honey and musk. It's gorgeous. Dry: Oh. More musk than honey. Not so good anymore. The honey has climbed in the back seat of the car with the other notes and has left musk out front. Still a warm, inviting fragrance, but I loved the honey. Verdict: I think I'd have to layer this to give it more lightness. The general fragrance is lovely, but when it morphs on me, I lose almost everything but the musk. I'll keep the imp and experiment with layering this one....it's a very warm scent that might be perfect for cold fall evenings....
    Schrodinger's Cat
    ~~Schrodinger's Cat~~ Expectations: I was hoping for a wild ride from this imp..... In the Imp: When I sniffed this, I couldn't pick out a single note. There was some hint of foody, but there was no single note that stuff out....which was NOT what I was expecting! Wet: I got quite a "clinical" feeling from the scent on my wrist. Certainly the citrus notes came out first, then the moss....it wasn't exactly a remarkable combination, but that's what I got. Dry: Citrus and moss....where was the unexpected Chocolate Peppermint?? Halllooooooo? (greeting echoes back here...) Verdict: I never got even so much as a whiff of the chocolate peppermint. This was a straightforward citrus and moss fragrance. There may have been a few flowers lurking under the moss, but not enough for me to mention here. Like getting on a rollercoaster and not getting a single stomach-drop or laugh....sigh.... glad others had a brilliant experience with this, cuz I certainly liked the idea!!
    Undertow
    ~~Undertow~~ In the Imp: Oh my...not what I was expecting. I don't know what lotus smells like, but this is really sweet and citrusy to me....almost like a urinal cake or one of those things you hang in your toilet bowl over the rim with the plastic hangy thing. Is that what lotus smells like? I always thought it'd be more elegant, I reckon.... Wet: eyew. more of the same. (my friend thought it smelled like transmission fluid on her at this time...so far, not too flattering.) Dry: this is still wildly sweet. about an hour into the scent the sweet leaves and ther was a watery juniper fragrance...then poof! Less than 2 hours later, it's gone. Verdict: At the very end I got the dreaded dusty cherry and orange life savers stuck to each other....I don't know what base note that is, but I seem to run into it alot with bpal. I'll be passing on Undertow....and so will my friend's transmission!
    The Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil
    ~~~The Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil~~~ In the Imp: fruity fruit salad with something intriguing lurking...but the fruit hides the other notes in the imp... Wet: oooh gorgeous plump ripe fruits...not too sweet, not too sour and not too recognizeable. Entrancing. Dry: I would have been a goner in the garden of Eden. This is lovely on me. the spices are right where they should be with the fruits and they are not cakey at all. Timelapse: Jayzus, it's still there! a little powdery, but still there nonetheless. A rarity with bpal and my chemistry! After 2 hours I did get nothing but cherry and orange lifesavers stuck together though...but it was a great 2 hours. Verdict: hmmmm...to bottle or not to bottle......

    Saint-Germain

    ~~~Saint-Germain~~ In the Imp: There's a spicy clean smell to this in the imp that makes me think of nice things like spicy clean men! Wet: It smells "silvery-purple" to me...the lavender and carnation come right to the front of the fragrance...bad news is that I don't particularly care for carnation. Dry: Carnation....it's not good on me because I amp carnation and end up smelling like a bad floral arrangement that 's been in a room too long... 20 minutes later comes the big wash off. Sorry Saint-Germain, patron saint of carnation....
    Whitechapel
    ~~whitechapel~~ I loved the description of this scent. It made me laugh. I was expecting something different than the notes that were listed in the description, but then again, i love surprise.... In the Imp: Oh my. Lemon Pledge without the furniture. My skin amps lemon, so this doesn't bode well... Wet: Lilac and lemon, which i assume is like citron, cuz i don't know what citron is...sounds like citrus though! Dry: The lemon is still running out front on this blend, almost making the other notes disappear on me. Timelapse 1 hour: Ah! finally I smell lilac!! There's still lots and lots of lemon though. Timelapse 2 hours: As usual, just when the going gets good, the scent gets going...I can't find it on my wrist....sigh.... Verdict: Lemony with a touch of lilac on me....
    The Red Queen
    ~~~red queen~~~ In the Imp: oh, this is a literal wood and fruit. No denying it from the first sniff. It leaps up and takes your nose into the imp! Wet: Mahogany and cherry....like cough syrup in your grandma's armoire. Dry: A bit more like cherries in a wooden bowl....I'm completely missing the currant.... Timelapse 1 hour: the mahogany and cherry have a ton of throw and I think I'm done. Timelapse 2 hours: I took this off with lotion an hour ago, and now I smell like a cough syrup factory burned down.....how does this have such infernal staying power when every other bpal wafts away on the first breeze past me?? lament lament lament...... Verdict: Undeniably strong, controlling and noticeable. Like the red queen.

    Darkness

    ~~darkness~~ I tried.....truly, i did try. I couldn't get past the smell in the bottle. There was something really REALLY bitter smelling in this....almost a lily smell to it. As I'm having a tummy problem recently, decided not to give it to my wrist to absorb, in case my nose didn't change it's mind. I a generally not a fan of heavy incense blends, so when I went to type this info in, I wasn't surprised to see several notes that took my wee nose hostage. This one goes into the swap pile....to my friends that love heavy duty fragrances! ADDED July 26: ~~~Darkness~~~ ok, let's try this again...... oh no... GAAAAAAAAAAK!!!! BITTER!! (well that was the end of that!)

    Ode on Melancholy

    ~~Ode On Melancholy~~ Ok, first off, love the name. Reminds me of Meladori Magpie from the smashing pumpkins for some reason..... In the imp, this smelled to me like a bright aquatic floral. It is a full moon though, so maybe the moon is pullin' at my noggin a bit too much...so wet on my wrist it goes. Now I get white flowers with a powdery feeling. For some gawd-unknown reason, my mother's perfume when I was young (I was going to type "growing up", but realized that I'm still waiting for that) pops into my head...does anyone remember Tigress by Faberge?? Ah, yes....Tigress and Southern Comfort, the scents of my youth! [= You know there was a bowling alley involved in there somewhere too, didn't you? Yep... Anyhoo, the fragrance, once dried, brought the rose to the front of the floral bouquet, but the lavender keeps it from becoming too "old lady", which is nice. Ode On Melancholy faded quickly on me, which is a general bpal problem I seem to be having.... Verdict: Light, lovely rose-based floral that may bring back bowling alley memories for you, maybe not. But it's worth a sniff if you adore florals.

    Rapunzel

    ~~rapunzel~~ In the Imp: sweet green floral....what surprises me is the sweet and green together! like sugared lettuce? I'm not skeerd to try this, which is good. Wet: the same as above....the sweet and the green. Dry: Rose decides to drive. She drives like an old lady sometimes, but in this case, the greens keep her young, sweet and lovely. Timelapse 1 hour: sweet, dusty rose and greens. Very light and actually kind of reminds me of Thalia at times.... Timelapse 2 hours: poof. gone. Verdict: Usually sweet and dusty = violets, so the rose is a nice change. I won't buy a bottle, but I'll probably be keeping the imp for the lighter occasion.

    Dorian

    ~~dorian~~ Ok, this is a handsome guy in the avatar thingies of fragrances that everyone has at the bottom of their posts (that i can't seem to figure out how to do yet)....and when i opened the vial, I thought "ah...this is why everyone loves this fragrance so very much...i got tea and vanilla....and I LOVE tea and vanilla. I put it on and during the wet phase, it smelled very much the same...lovely. Then...well.....it dried. And on me, it died. To me, on my arm, it smelled like dorian is a smoker. I get a very strong tobacco smell.....so much so that I had to wash it off. Sigh. Sorry, Dorian, but i don't do smokers.....but you're still good at distance!!!

    Lovers in a Ricefield

    ~~~lovers in a ricefield~~~ Well, i'm in trouble. I've just fallen in love with my first LE bpal... dang. $3.50 imps here i come. Lovers in a ricefield is beautiful on me. It's a soft plum with a rice background....so soft and wonderful...it doesn't stay too long, but I reckon I don't mind...it's like little gentle kisses from a new partner. Absolutely lovely. All those posting after me that find that this fragrance isn't for them.....send me a message!!!
    Kyoto
    ~~kyoto~~ i love anise. i think it's a mighty underutilized note, so when someone included kyoto as a frimp, I was hugely hopeful...and when I opened the imp and sniffed I was STILL hugely hopeful. Then i put it on. poopie. star anise ran away with the wind and all that stayed with me was cherry blossoms and white sandalwood. I amp sandalwood, so now i just smell like those little tiny cheapo balloons that you buy as a kid to make water balloons out of and just about every other one busts around the neck as you're sliding it on or taking it off the water spigot .....sigh..... back to the anise drawing board for me.......
    Arkham
    ~~~arkham~~~ In the Imp: This almost smelled aquatic to me...probably because the florals are so light and delicately balanced. It was difficult to pick out a particular note in the imp, which made me impatient to get it on my wrist! Wet: The florals came bouncing forward like wee baby lambs....something was a bit bitter while this was wet, but I know I have a hypersensitivity to bitter fragrances/tastes....also something vaguely reminded me of a lemony "Scarecrow"...not sure why. I didn't get much woodsy fragrance from this at all. Or maybe the woodsy I got was dry and that's what reminded of Scarecrow.....all the same, i get flowers... Dry: Light, well-balanced floral notes. There is a bit of moss, but again the woods have bypassed my arm and left a floral bouquet that when i smell it , lingers at the back of the roof of my mouth. Not unpleasant, in the least, but more floral than i usually like to smell. Verdict: Not for me, but certainly an imp to pass on to a light floral lover.

    Dana O'Shee

    ~~dana o'shee~~ In the Imp: After reading the descripton, I wasn't expecting such an almond smell to hit me in the schnoz, but it did! And I love almond so it was fiiiiiiine with me! Wet: Almond. Yes, the marzipanny type, but I'm also getting milk and honey on my skin. Dry: The same almond, honey and milk... Timelapse 1 hour: I smell completely yummy while cleaning the garage. The spiders must be impressed. Timelapse 2 hours: Poopie. It's all but left me....but at least the garage is clean! Verdict: If this fragrance smells like the dana o'shee get to eat, I wanna come back as one!! [= (probably not really, but right now it's a happy thought!) I still get a light milky musk smell on my skin, so it's not a "stayer" by any means, but it's residue-due is even gorgeous.
  22. I completely concur. This is my first Chaos Theory and my first sniff at the base fragrance O, and although it wasn't unpleasant, it wasn't wild (like I was expecting for some reason) or unexpected in any way. A nice light sweet floral blend.

    The Shivering Boy

    ~~~The Shivering Boy~~~ In the bottle: Mmmmmmmmmmm....cold....and trees, but not the usual trees (i'm not getting any evergreen, which is refreshing in itself!) The menthol is not overpowering....just a reminder of the cold. Wet: exactly the same as in the bottle, which makes me very very happy!! Dry: Oh, now I'm getting dusty grape/berry scent....kind of powdery but still icy and lovely. Timelapse 1 hour: The frozen fruit is still there, though under a dusty dusting of dust.... Timelapse 2 hours: dus........ (dang, these fragrances never stay long on me) Verdict: Although the shivering boy left early, his lovely scented memory lingers on..... I adore this fragrance. It's my favorite bpal so far.
    Absinthe
    ~~~absinthe~~~ i gotta preface this post with the fact that i don't drink. ("oh, she must have had a problem with it before") never have. ("what? no way.") never even been drunk before. ("you gotta be kidding. she must be really religious then or have some strange allergy to flammable materials or something") Nope. Just thought it was cooler to rebel against the "cool" (aka jocks, cheerleaders, etc.) kids in school than my parent. Plus I have enough trouble with reality as it is, without messing it up in unknown ways....so i don't imbibe nor take drugs (don't need to do that...already have that reality problem as it is!) Certainly don't look down on those that DO imbibe, as a matter of fact, some of my greatest friends are heavy imbibers (Uber-imbibers?) that HATE the fact I don't drink when they first meet me (cuz i ent drunk and they are and i remember things) until they realize i'm a built in designated driver. Popularity and comfort level obviously has a direct relationship with utilitarianism in this case.... Anyhoo, i do try alcohol....any drink that sounds like it has nice ingredients I will sample. So I have sampled Absinthe (with wormwood) on one occasion and really enjoyed the experience.....flaming sugarcube and all.... I love anise, mint, cardamom (which i didn't even know was in there til i read the description!) so I thought I'd be headed in the right direction with this imp. But I was also hesitant, cuz heck, who wants to go around smelling like an alcoholic drink! It's a very Demeter thing to do, and they usually don't smell all that nice.... ....but this smells niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice. Really niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice. Nice like niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice. When I tasted absinthe (the drink, not the imp.) there was a definite bitter taste...what's lovely about the fragrance is that there's very little bitterness. just niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice. The anise, wormwood and lemon were easily discernable in the imp, but when i put the fragrance on, it went all lemon pledge on wood....but the drydown brought the anise back to the surface. My skin amps lemon something fierce, so it took a good hour before the prevailing notes were wormwood and anise again, and it was worth the wait. True to the drink....actually BETTER than the drink due to the lack of bitterness. I doubt I'll have a need for a full bottle, but I will certainly keep an imp or two around for those times when i feel a bit green..... or when i want to confuse my drunken friends...

    Love's Philosophy

    neongreen, really?? It did? I LOVE root beer, but I had the same experience you did with the smell in the imp....couldn't get myself to test it because it smelled sickening to me.....now you're going to make me push my limits.....(ok folks, if there's no review up here within the next week, feel free to harass me and call me chicken...)
