In the bottle, this is floral - fresh spring flowers and green leaves. On - light and sweet. There's a hint of something a little fruity that I can't put my finger on. It gives the blend a subtle sweetness and keeps the florals from feeling too overpowering. This is a walk in the woods on a spring day to a tee. It's fresh and pretty, and was perfect for my trip to Northern Wisconsin last week.

    Cthulhu

This is really lovely. It's aquatic florals, very fresh and clean and just a bit masculine. It seems to be the first BPAl scent I've tried that I would honestly call gender neutral. I couldn't really pick out specific notes, but this didn't alter much between the imp and drydown for me. It stayed beautiful and fresh all day. Not a lot of throw, but nice staying power. Honestly, I would love all my clothes to smell like this. It is just so pleasant and clean, and it felt so refreshing to just give my wrist a little sniff on a horribly hot day.

This scent is amazing, and one of my new favorites. It is deep, rich dark chocolate with the fig giving it a berry sweetness, particularly at the start. The musk is just hinted at, but it gives a grounding note to the sweetness and starts to come out more after extreme drydown. This might be considered a foody oil, but it is dark and mysterious, not the cloying sort of sweetness one might expect.

    Belle Époque

In the imp this is all sandlewood. The sandlewood pushed everything else to the background. On, this was sandlewood and opium. The lily was a nice background note, and the vanilla warmed things up just a little. I never got the madarin, which was disappointing, but this was still a lovely perfume. Very sophisticated and multilayered. I don't think this is for me, but I will enjoy the imp.

    Pele

This started out as soap - lovely expensive soap, but soap. However, after the drydown it became soft wet blossoms with just the tiniest hint of ginger. It seemed almost like a tropical mist over a flower garden. It is very light, but had good staying power. This isn't what I expected - much more subtle than I thought it would be. It is still a beautiful perfume, and I am very glad to have received an imp of it.

I suspect that somewhere in my problems with this oil is karma for killing yet another plant. In the imp: Green, sharp, pungent herbs. It's very evocative of the lab's description! On, it's a biting herbal blend, very fresh but a little medicinal on me. There's something piney in there, but forest pine, not cleaning fluid pine. This was very strong, and lingered for a very long time. I eventually had to wash it off after twenty-six hours. I couldn't enjoy this scent, since I felt like the spirit of my most recent dead plant was taunting me from beyond. However, my friend with the green thumb adored it and is giving it a good home.

    Pink Moon 2005

I had a hard time picking out the specific notes in this blend. Wet, it was sugared flowers, like one would put on a wedding cake. Sweet, floral and very girly. After the drydown there was just the lightest touch of strawberry mixed in with the florals. Very nice, still very girly and sweet. Several hours later, this became sort of smokey and dark. I couldn't even figure out if it was a particular note, or just my body chemisty. The strawberry became more prominent, and the florals went smokey - like they were being burned on an alter or something. Over all, the final scent was a little disconcerting, but it still smelled lovely. I'm going to give this one another try as soon as possible.

    Mi-Go Brain Canister

In the bottle, this was all bubble gum. Juicy, fruity bubble gum. Delicious! On, the pepper note comes to the front giving a kick to all those tropical fruits. It's soft, very pink smelling, and the pepper note keeps it from being too sweet. It's the paper umbrella in your fruity drink. On extreme drydown, the fruits are almost completely gone, but the floral notes have come out. Very light jasmine with a hint of mango, like a tropical breeze. This scent is amazing. All it needed was a cabana boy to make my desert island fantasy complete.

    Perversion

In the imp, this is surprisingly creamy. I wouldn't have expected that at all from the description. On, it is soft smoke and spices. I adore the tobacco note, and while I don't get much leather, there is just enough to keep this scent sweet without being foody. After the drydown there is a very light hint of something like vanilla, which I'm assuming must be the tonka. If it is, I have to find more blends with tonka in them, since it is fantastic. It's much less overwhelming than vanilla, and a bit darker, less sweet. Unfortunately, this didn't last very long on me. I had to reapply after about two hours. I don't think I will be getting a big bottle of this, but I am going to enjoy the imp immensely.

    R'lyeh

This was a really interesting oil to wear. It smelled dark and a little wet with a scent similar to incense when I first put it on. I can't say that I remember what a grapefruit smells like, but there is a bitter citrus note that blends in with the insense smell. It doesn't give any of the brightness to this that I would expect from citrus. This really didn't smell very aquatic on me, but it was pleasant. Very dark and heady. It seems like it would go well with an evening of lurking.

    Embalming Fluid

I received an imp of this from ivyandpeony, which I send many thank yous for. In the imp, this is just a fresh, soft tea scent with a little hint of lemon. It's very light and relaxing. On, the tea/lemon mix becomes a little more powerful on me, with just the tiniest hint of musk as a background note. It was surprisingly strong, and wafted across a couple of booths when I went to coffee, causing several people to ask what smelled so good, and one friend to spend twenty minutes sniffing my wrists and neck. Several people mentioned that this didn't last very long, but I had a good five hours of strong scent before it started to fade. I can actually still smell it now, after sixteen hours and a nap, though it is much lighter. Final result - I'm glad I ordered a big bottle. This is beautiful, and a perfect summer scent.

    Moscow

This scent is very delicate, and probably the most commercial smelling oil I've tried so far. In the bottle it is all floral and just a little tangerine. I adore tangerine, so I was very excited to try this after a sniff. However, when I put it on, the tangerine disappears, never to be smelled again. *sigh* The musk and amber never showed up either. I think my skin really amps up florals and, oddly enough, the carnation became the most dominant note on me. This was very nice for the first few hours, since the smell was soft, lovely carnation with little hints of lily of the valley and just a tiny bit of rose. However, at the four hour mark it turned into baby powder. After a reapplication, it was back to soft florals for the next seven hours. I like the oil quite a bit, but I don't think it will be getting much wear. It's almost a little too delicate for me. It will be nice to break out on days when I just feel pretty.

    March Hare

I received this as a gift imp from enantiomorph. I adore this scent. It is sweet apricots and spice, exactly like a tart or preserves. The apricot is juicy and ripe, and the clove is warm and perfectly blended with the fruit. It lasted for hours - it was still going strong twelve hours after applying it. I felt delicious and edible the entire time it was on. I must get a big bottle of this. It is fantastic.

    Gluttony

Wow. In the bottle this smells exactly like a shot I mix at work - Buttershots, Goldshlager and Baileys. On it's creamy butterscotch, cinnamon spice, and a lot of booze. It's potent stuff, very strong, lots of throw. After a couple hours I started smelling more of a toffee scent, and something a bit bitter - like a flavoured coffee. This didn't last as long as most scents seem to on me, only five hours before I had to reapply. Overall, this is yummy and surprisingly dark for a foody scent.

    Love Me

I received an imp of this from the wonderful ivyandpeony, and had to try it out. It is a strange cinnamon and smoke smell, with just a tiny hint of something floral in it. I wasn't sure how I felt about it at first, since it seemed a little inscense-y. After the drydown, the smoke became more of a background note, and it was just a pleasant, soft spice. Very nice. This is much stronger than it seemed, since everyone I sat next to noticed it, and I could still smell it on my wrists fifteen hours after I put it on. However, it wasn't overwhelming, and no one seemed to mind catching a whiff on the breeze. This probably isn't something I would wear every day, but it is pretty and I am very happy to have gotten a chance to try it.

    The Living Flame

I had a hard time narrowing down any notes in this one. It is a sweet, very pretty floral on me, but there is something underlying the pretty flowers that I just can't place. Something a little powdery and spicy. It is beautiful though, very sweet and soft, bright but not overwhelming. It made me feel very lady like, and was a perfect scent to wear out to a fancy dinner.

    Hearth

This is an amazing scent. In the bottle it is all cherries - overwhelming, overpowering, cherries. Wet it smells like cherry pipe tobacco. When it dries, the leather comes out and helps to ground the cherry scent, and then this blend is beautiful. It eventually (after seven hours) morphed into the maple syrup type scent that other people have mentioned, which I didn't really care for. It is also very strong - I put on a dab on each wrist and behind both ears, and could smell nothing but this oil for well over five hours. Overall, I really liked this, although I will probably put it away until colder weather. I can just imagine lounging around in a big comfy sweater wearing this.

    Graveyard Dirt

Like all the other reviews say, this smells like dirt. Beautiful, dark, moist dirt in the bottle and on my skin. It's actually pretty amazing, and I get this lovely hint of sweetness that I can't quite put my finger on. It's really just an intreguing scent. This didn't last very long on its own, only a couple hours. However, it layers very nicely, especially with sweeter florals, and gains a little more staying power. I'm so glad that I managed to get a bottle of this. It might not be to everyone's tastes, but I really adore it.

    Spooky

This scent is so yummy that, like some others have mentioned, I just want to give it a taste. In the bottle it smells like really delicious smelling sunblock. It has a very creamy coconut scent that hits me before the chocolate and mint. On, the coconut and mint take a back seat and just create a nice undertone for the rum and chocolate. After a little while, the mint becomes a bit more pronounced, but it doesn't overpower the other notes. On the whole, the scent remains very multilayered and creamy. This isn't a very strong scent. It lasted for quite awhile, but it stayed very close to my skin. Not a lot of wafting.

    Thalia

Mmm. This is really beautiful. I get a lot of plumeria, particularly when it's wet. The pear starts to join in on the drydown, which gives the scent this amazing mix of floral and fruit. It's strong, but pleasant enough that I wouldn't be afraid to wear this in a crowded elevator. This is just a lovely, girly scent - very young and fresh.

    Succor

I had a really hard time narrowing down scents in Succor. In the imp it smelled very green and a little medicinal, although it didn't smell like that at all when I put it on. I get a very light incense smell, and something a little powdery. It reminds me a little of my grandmother's face cream, in a nice, comforting way. There is a little tinge of something woody in the background, but I'm not getting a lot of depth from this oil. This is really light, and I had to hold my wrist right up to my nose to smell anything after the first twenty minutes, but I also didn't put much on. I probably wouldn't get a large bottle of this, but this seems like a really nice before bed scent.

    Suspiro

When I first put this on, it is very floral. Almost a little overwhelming, and stronger than I expected. After a few minutes the smell smooths out and while it still has a good throw, it isn't overpowering. The white flowers are really dominant in the blend, but there is a tiny fruit undernote, which rounds the scent out. After drydown, this is really soft, demure and very feminine. There isn't any sort of edge or darkness. It smells just like a bridal bouquet. I probably won't be wearing this every day, but it will be very nice for days when I am feeling particularly girly.

    Akuma

My boyfriend and I had the exact same thought after smelling this in the bottle: Smarties! On, it had a lot more depth to it. I can smell both the orange and the rasberry which gives me an over all yummy vibe. However, there is the lovely smell mingling with the fruit that must be the neroli. It reminds me of sitting outside on a sunny, early summer afternoon with an orange sucker. Really blue skies, grass that is amazingly lush and just about ready to be mowed, and the bright orange sucker that I am feasting on. This is stronger than I expected for a citrus scent, and it lasted for quite a while on me with a good amount of throw. This is just an amazing summer sort of scent.

    Gomorrah

This was a pretty interesting scent for me. It smelled almost astrigent-y on me at first, and my first horrible thought was patchouli (which I hate). It did fade after a little bit into a more herbal/cedar type scent which was better. I didn't get much of the fruit smell until about a half an hour after it had been applied, and then a lovely fig and spice smell blended in with the herbal scent. This seemed a little too strong and almost pungent for me at first, but after the drydown I really liked it. It felt very energising to me, and lasted all day. Next time, I will apply a little less, though. My boyfriend was afraid to come near me for a good twenty minutes.

    Bordello

This was my first BPAL fragrence, and what a start. This smells very sweet in the bottle. Lots of berry scent with just a hint of booze. On, it smelled a bit like preserves in a very pleasant way. It was pretty long lasting (about six hours) and subtle. I got many compliments on it at work. Everyone thought I smelled like a piece of pie or a fruity drink, and oddly enough, my bartending tips improved. Coincidence? Maybe, but I will be wearing this to wrangle the drunks more often.
