  1. Everyone's review of butterscotch and dirt that is well-balanced pretty well sums this up. "Dirt" being patchouli mixed with anise. Kinda along the same lines as Fortuna Annonaria. I was lucky enough to get a hair gloss that a lovely forumite created using a bottle of this. Highly recommend!

  2. Creamy, sweet sandalwood. Cinnamon is really hard to pick out, and the amber isn't taking over. The patchouli is just light enough that it's enhancing the sandalwood, instead of overpowering it. In the end, I think the amber ends up killing it for me. It goes sickly sweet, and it's not enjoyable.

  3. I've got bottle #22. It's very bright fruit at the beginning. I heard a few people say they smelled apples, another saying they smelled a typical asian fruit like durian or passionfruit. I think I agree with the latter. The tangy fruit starts to pull lightly floral, maybe honeysuckle? Maybe sunflowers or marigolds? It's a yellow floral. And honey. This is not working for me, either.

  4. I got bottle #15. I tried this on the other day, and was having a hard time identifying notes. I'll give it another shot.

In the bottle: Rose? Rose oude? Is Rose oude even a thing? There's something from the garden in here. I tend to stay away from the garden/rooty/weedy kinda smells, so I can't pinpoint what GC smell might be in here.

Drydown: It does sweeten up quite quickly, but there's still that stinky oude hanging around. The rose calms down. It begins to take on something minty or eucalyptus-like. Samhain is struggling in the back to get out. Maybe there's some rosewood?

Dry: The rose is angling towards more of a sweet, powdery floral. Eventually the Samhain is there, but it's still under a layer of powdery rose. It's pretty, but it's not for me.

  5. Fruity snake oil. The pomegranate isn't as loud as I expected, nor is the snake oil. Sometimes fresh snake oil can smell a bit heady and overwhelming, but not here. It feels really wearable, although the pomegranate warms up to candy-ish levels. Not necessarily a bad thing, depends on how you like your snake oil. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys dark red fruits.

ETA: overall, this is light, and didn't stick around very long on my skin. Maybe just a few hours.

  6. And now was acknowledged the presence of the Red Death. He had come like a thief in the night. And one by one dropped the revellers in the blood-bedewed halls of their revel, and died each in the despairing posture of his fall. And the life of the ebony clock went out with that of the last of the gay. And the flames of the tripods expired. And Darkness and Decay and the Red Death held illimitable dominion over all.

Darkness, Decay, and the Red Death: blood musk and black tobacco, birch tar and bleeding cypress sap.

I'm such a sucker for tobacco. Even when all the other notes don't particularly call me, I'm still willing to try it for the tobacco.

Wet: musk, perhaps of the red or blood variety. I don't really know the difference. I can smell the cypress in the background.

Drydown: Oh, hello, tar. Why are you here to ruin this party? Darkness and Decay, indeed. Cypress is still hanging out, just kinda waving from the back of the room.

Dry: The birch tar and cypress have combined to create this interesting platform where they work together to hold up the musk and hint of tobacco. In an oddly bright red, but in a dangerous way. I feel like this leans masculine on me, with the tobacco, tar, and cypress holding back any sweetness. The musk is slowly trying to round out these scoundrels, bringing a bit of sweetness. I didn't expect this sort of change. It's still too much tar and cypress for me to enjoy, though.

Much later: It's sweetened up significantly. It ends up smelling like an slightly evil version of Smut on me. So, I guess there's blood musk in Smut, and I'm amping the musk here.

  7. Do you have a type of scent that every time you smell it, your eyes roll back in your head? This is one of those for me.

I love the Trading Post's atmo spray of this last year so much that I bought multiple bottles. I was really happy to see it released in a perfume version this year. My initial thought is it's a bit sweeter than the spray. The pumpkin is more apparent. It smells more foodie than tobacco.

During drydown, it starts to morph, and the tobacco makes itself known. I feel like this is a sweeter tobacco than the spray.

Dry, this is very similar to the spray. Spicy, earthy, kinda chewy tobacco. Somehow oddly comforting.

  8. Every leaf tells a story.

Let me start off my saying that I'm not a big "dead leaves" fan. But that's merely due to ignorance, I haven't smelled enough of them to really know if it's something I would like. But apricot and tobacco sounded awesome.

First, in the bottle, it smells like some fruit that is overripe, beginning to rot. Not pleasant.

First try on the back of my hand: On the skin, it retains that overripe smell, and slowly mellows during the drydown. Once dry, it's much different.

Lightly feminine, lightly sweet, lightly fruity. The first thing that comes to mind is apricot gum. I don't know of any apricot gum, so it's a weird association. Maybe a bit like the smell when you initially walk into a Pier 1 imports store. Like vaguely woody and sweet. To my nose, I'm not getting any tobacco, but if I think hard enough, I can imagine tobacco leaves. I think my skin is sucking up the apricot, I'm beginning to only smell a salty musk, which I assume is the ambergris. It eventually settles into a clean, oceanic skin musk.

Second try in crook of arm: I remember someone saying that if you don't like something, try a "dry" and "wet" spot. Elbow is going to be warmer, so trying again. Still starts out overripe. I think the apricot is a bit louder this time, with the subtle ambergris in the background. This kinda smells like a cocktail you might get in a fancy restaurant. Still not picking up any tobacco. The fruit is hanging on longer, and everything is settling into a sweeter skin musk.

    Off to sell!

  9. I don't know that I would compare this to Strawberry Moon. The strawberry in this feels more candy-like, definitely louder, really fruit-forward. Strawberry Moon always feels like a laid-back strawberry that is a bit more fresh. And the pepper is a nice balance with spicy/sweet, much like the Luper Box o Chocolate: White Chocolate, Strawberry, and White Pepper Truffle. If you're a fan of that, this is a more simple version of that for your hair.

  10. I'm so happy I picked up a bottle from Etsy. This is such a happy autumn scent. I never knew I needed this in my life. Peach marshmallows is accurate; makes me think of the warm, squishy peaches inside my grandma's peach cobbler. And it's like someone smashed a bit of their pumpkin pie into my cobbler. If you are a fan of peaches and pumpkin, don't miss this!

  11. The external world could take care of itself. In the meantime it was folly to grieve, or to think.

Ginger-squeezed champagne with crushed diamonds, orange blossoms, and peach blossoms.

The orange and peach blossoms were calling me. I should have known better when it comes to champagne. It ends up smelling like a fancy cleaning solution on me. I get a hint of ginger, but the champagne really amps on me. I can smell the peach and orange blossom hanging out in the background, but I really have to take a deep whiff. This is such a clean scent, I think it would make a great atmo spray.

Coming back to this a bit later: the balance between the champagne and blossoms feels a lot more balanced. And it seems like it sweetened up a bit. Still not for me, though.

  12. Wet: this is straight up Irish Cream. Sweet and slightly boozy.

Drydown: The coffee comes out a bit, but it doesn't smack you in the face. It smells more like a nice, creamy coffee candle. I feel the the sweetness and boozyness from the Irish Cream slowly leaves, leaving behind a lovely smelling cup of coffee.

  13. This is interesting. Totally not evocative of roller rinks for me since mine smelled like sweat, soda, and popcorn. I do, however; get a cleanish skin, not quite musk, yet oddly, fruity sweet. It does remind me of the fall, being indoors at work. Like, it’s inoffensive enough, nobody would notice it on you. But just sweet enough to have you smelling nice all day. I think fig just doesn’t smell like much to me.

  14. I don't pick up almond and patchouli as much as everyone else. The leather immediately jumps out at me, with a sweet dirt/earth note. It's kinda like if you had an old leather jacket, and decided to jump into a pile of leaves and then make dirt angels. It's sweet-ish, but I can see a guy pulling this off. I'm guessing that's the oak.

It's really pretty. It's a must-have for leather lovers; however, I can get my leather needs from Perversion and other leather blends I have. I would think that earthy lovers and patch lovers who don't have a leather blend can enjoy this.

  15. This is interesting! I was hesitant because I usually amp honey. Wafting, Im reminded of a super sweet version of Goat milk, oatmeal, and honey. But then, babies were mentioned above, and now thats in my brain.

Getting in closer, it smells more magical. Its definitely going sweeter, like applesauce. The salty biscuit is balancing the honey really well, and doesnt do the weird, gross spit smell it normally does on me. I can see this being too sweet for most people, but theres a beauty in the simplicity and balance.
