    Pleasures of the Imagination V

I'm smelling nearly what Little Bird got. Red sandalwood with a bit powder. It does have a slight masculine edge in the bottle, but earthiness, wood, and tobacco warm up with my skin. The leather might be hanging out in the background, but it's not a dominant note.

    Cancer 2016

I'm surprised at how few reviews. This is interesting. Same as a lot of others, not sure about mugwort, but a lot of other notes appeal to me. Wet: sweet, light florals from violet and jasmine. An herbyness from the lemonbalm, perhaps the mugwort, too. Cucumber in the background, cooling things out. It ends up smelling comforting, but cool. Like a house that you like to hang out at. Drydown: a bit of mint, slightly powdery cucumbers, and a pleasant jasmine floralness. Still a comforting smell with low throw. I would definitely recommend trying this. Dry: On me, this ends up as sweet, floral jasmine with a hint of herby. Still a low throw.

    Long Night Moon

I guess I got a decant last year from someone's stash, I didn't realize this was so old. Someone mentioned "lovely and comforting". I think that sums it up for me well. I don't get a harsh jasmine, nor a blue musk. It's like a night-blooming flower with a hint of clean in the background. It's not overpowering. It reminds me of the clean sheets at my aunt's house.

    Sri Lankan Lime

Wow, does the same thing to me as Zankoku_zen. By the time I got the imp top back on, my skin was dry. I tried twice because I can't believe it goes away so fast! It smells lovely when it's initially wet, though. Wet: lime lollipop Dry: hints of dry lime candy, really had to sniff hard to find it.

Hunting for the ultimate _____ blend

Sprout, you're so good at digging up these old threads and resurrecting them. I'll visit the forum, and see your name in the recent post, and I'm like "hmm, I wonder what cool thread she found this time." For Wine, have you tried, Halloween in Las Vegas? Also, Dark Chocolate with Merlot-Infused Black Cherries, and Star Anise. Granted, it's sweet because of the cherries, so it's like a cheapy wine, but it smells divine. I'm looking for something like Solstice Scents: A Salty Mariner. Sadly, there are no specific notes, aside from seaspray, so it's been difficult to try different things. But this smelled amazing on my husband, and we are sad she discontinued it. We no longer have his imp, so I have nothing to compare it to.

    Zorya Vechernyaya

Very nice, and somewhat reminiscent of other catalogue scents heavy on red musk. I feel like I've smelled something similar. Debauchery, perhaps? Or Morocco? It's mostly a spicy musk on me, with a bit of the jasmine in the background. Overall, this feels very one-note heavy on me, but it's a sexy, come hither note. I think this reminds me of a heavier, slightly sweeter version of Snake Oil.

    Conical Beast

I'm picking up the same thing as Little Bird. Amping dirty jasmine with some cleaner smell in the background. DO NOT LIKE.

    A Fit of Artistic Enthusiasm

Watery mint? Sweet mint? It's not overpowering, and it's not the seaspray I was expecting. More sweet herbal than something I would categorize as aquatic.

    Katharina

Really light and sweet. I can see canned peaches or juicy apricots. Stays really close to my skin. It's nice, but it needs something to bump it up a bit.

    The King of Hearts

This is a lab imp. Wet: lightly sweet, lightly fruity, lightly floral. Definitely picking up that tinge of lavender in the background. I think, mixed with the wood or musk, this ends up smelly creamy from far away? Dry: I really don't get any of the bright red or rose smells that everyone else is mentioning. This seems like a very demure, spring scent. It sticks close to my skin, and isn't overpowering in any way. It just smells lightly sweet and clean.

    Strawberry Moon 2017

I agree mostly about the similarity between '09 and '17 being fairly similar. '09 isn't as sweet as '17. '09 wet: green, sweet, strawberries in a salad '17 wet: eating sweeter, strawberry shortcake while in the grass. Somewhat still artificial. '09 dry: almost artificial strawberries with a lot of green in the background '17 dry: really apparent strawberry, with the vanilla more apparent. A sort of light skin musk around it, too. Frankly, it ends up smelling like fresh-washed hair with Suave's strawberry shampoo from years ago. Some might say this is more of an artificial strawberry smell. I really, really enjoy it.

    Fake News

In the bottle: acrid patchouli Wet: pepper and tobacco Dry: still amping the pepper, which feels like it gives it a unisex quality. The patchouli and tobacco round it nicely, though, giving it an earthy quality. I can see how it would be compared to a Tom Ford or Jo Malone fancy tobacco perfume. Definitely reminds me of a Jo Malone perfume. I'm still trying to decide if I want to keep this. The pepper and tobacco is right up my alley, but it might be too unisex to warrant keeping the bottle. My husband ended up amping whatever "slashes of gold" is. He smelled like my grandma, so he's not allowed to wear this.

    So Below

In the bottle: earthy, overly sweet fruit, not picking up coconut Wet: I know this sounds horrible, but putrid, fruity pie. Like the fruit is overly ripe. I'm guessing I was amping the copal and cardamom? I can smell the potential of this calming down. Drydown: First poster is spot-on! Musky, almost vanilla coconut, with a hint of cardamom in the back. Ends up smelling a bit like sweet leather on me. Slightly incensey. Really nice, thankful it morphed into something really lovely.

    Dirty

BPTP frimp. I think Soupy Twist is accurate. Surprisingly, a older lab frimp managed to smell clean linen, less green.

    Devil's Night Claw Polish

This is an amazing jelly!!!! Ordered it on a whim from the BPTP on Etsy. It is a strong orange-leaning red. But, yeah, one coat is enough for VNL, with 2 coats being less pronounced. It coats very evenly, dries shiny, and is way better quality than I was expecting.

    Intrigue

Wet: sawdust, vaguely sweet, and graphite? Drydown: sweet, fruity pencil shavings in a tropical area, like Florida? Once you know everything in here, it's easier to pick out the notes. But I never would have been able to call them out individually. Dry: I can't tell if I find this feminine or unisex. I think this would smell amazing on the right person, but I'm guessing I amp the palm, and everything else floats to the back and becomes indistinguishable.
  17. torikitty

    Cockaigne

sweet vanilla cake and honey. Oddly enough, a bit too sweet for me. And I amp the honey, so it's a no-go for me.

    Lilith and the Jarocho

bottle: not a fan initially, sour tamarind. wet: The lime and verbena are screaming in the front, with Dorian skulking in the background? drydown: this really calms down quickly. cedar, moss, and marigold provide this interesting base for the tamarind and lime to perform this duet with the jasmine. It's really interesting. It's not for me, but I can see this being beautiful on the right person. Not as sweet as I was expecting, nor as floral. But it's still slightly sweet, green, floral, and fruity at the same time. Still worth experiencing if your skin chemistry works well with most of these notes.

    Strawberry Moon 2009

I bought this from their Etsy store a year or so ago. Last year, when I smelled my bottle in comparison to another bpaler's bottle that she originally purchased from release, I noticed that hers smelled sweeter. The strawberry wasn't hard to find, and it smelled more candyish. Mine smelled more green, and you had to try harder to find sweet strawberry. Fast forward to now. I think it's sweetened up in the bottle. Green grass and strawberry hard candy. It's a lovely, happy scent. So, I think the key was it needed to be exposed to air a bit more. It doesn't last long on me, either. I can see layering this with something similar, either a happy fruity scent, or a green garden scent.

    Desire

The overwhelming agony of passion crystallized into a singularly dark and magnetic blend: bittersweet neroli, black patchouli and black musk, gilded by apple, bergamot, blood red rose, teak, and vanilla. I figured I would like this one. Strangely, it ends up smelling overly-sweet on me. The rose isn't overpowering, but I'm guessing that the rose mixed with the apple is going floral/sweet. Ends up smelling like a nice grandma perfumey soap. I can't really pick out any of the other notes.

    Bewitched

Wet: yep, berries, sage, and tea. Although, it's strange, it's sticking really close to my skin. I can hardly smell anything. These are all things I enjoy, so I figured I'd really enjoy this. Dry: vaguely sweet berries with a hint of green in the background. Then my skin ate it up. I can hardly smell anything an hour later.

    The Other Mother's Right Hand

Ooh, I have a prototype lab bottle from a swapper. I'm glad that zankoku_zen noted both of her reviews because the imp that I smelled of this wasn't as smoky, either. I agree with the second review, but I seem to remember the imp smelling sweeter on me.

    Snake Can

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE! The same sweet, nutty note in Mouse Circus, but with the subtle sexiness of Snake Oil in the background. Perhaps a bit of musk. I'd say about medium-to-low throw, and lasts all day. I seriously want to douse myself in this everyday. Must find another bottle! ETA: Just adding some more love for this! It's fascinating to read how other people experienced this. I'm thinking that you have to know that the salt note will work with your skin chemistry. The quickest BPAL salt similarity I can come up with is Aegir, but I know very few people got to try that. I think the peanutty side of this is akin to Mouse Circus, but the salt is really what determines what your skin will do with the nuts and Snake Oil. And it's funny because I definitely wouldn't associate this with an aquatic. The saltiness enhances the sweetness/vanilla/spices/nuts in a "fancy cookie" kinda way, rather than pushing it towards something I associate with the sea.

    Gingerbread, Vetiver, and Black Clove

Very peppery gingerbread, very sweet clove. The vetiver adds a woodsy note. I would wear this with a big, warm sweater, on days when I'm not feeling great. This is very comforting and slightly melancholy.

Wet: green, citrus, slightly floral Drydown: freesia and amber poking their heads out over the citrus. The musk, honeydew, and guava are getting pounced on. Dry: I agree, this is a well-blended scent, but it's not for me. It ends up smelling like fancy soap on me, though. I think I'm amping the freesia because it just smells clean, green, and floral.
