This is my Halloween costume this year - what scents do you rec? Does Lightning actually evoke her?

The most foresty scent I've ever smelled (from any perfume company) is Troll, which happens to be one of my favorites. Check it out.

Perhaps Lawful from the RPG section. It truly somehow smells...Lawful.

Sin is one of my top 10, and I agree..it just lacks the coconut and Egyptian musk (suppose I could acquire single notes of those and try my hand, eh?)

You're in luck, because the general catalog section Rappacini's Garden has a literal sub-section dedicated to honey. My suggestion: Tobacco Honey. Dries down to dark, sexy honey. Snow scent: Snowball Fracas. Snow + earth.

As I recall, sadly it didn't work for me. No one else has smelled this awesome scent?

LIsted notes: patchouli, spice (to my nose, Cinnamon,) Egyptian musk, Tahitian vanilla, coconut. It smells like a dark-yet-sweet, spicy cinnamon. Thoughts?

Personally, I wouldn't deliberately track down stuff I thought I wouldn't like. Try the stuff you want, and eventually the notes you suspect *will* show up in some other perfume.

On the hunt for a substitute for the divine an' discontinued Smiling Spider, the main note to my nose is 'bitter clove.' I notice a fair amount of blends with clove, but very few are phrased, "bitter clove." Ones with that phrase tend to be 'darker' - Smiling Spider, Death of Autumn, Dracul and Count Dracula have it, for instance. So is "bitter clove" just a descriptive, like "sweet honey?" Or are 'clove' and 'bitter clove' two different scents?

My votes: Dorian and O. I notice no fern in Dorian and don't recall any reviews saying it is heavy on it. It's white musk, vanilla and tea (in that order on me.) It seems to be one of BPAL's most popular scents, an almost universally loved fragrance you can hardly go wrong with. O is honey, amber, and vanilla (in that order on me) and smells a lot better aged. SSS I don't think I've tried, but I don't like root beer so there's no way that would be a personal scent of mine. Black Pearl is 'eh' on me.

The sweetest BPAL I've tried is Sugar Cookie (a Yule Limited Edition,) which is such a true, rich scent that I've actually heard people say they smelled cookies in a store I was in. Not my kind of scent, but it sounds like what you're looking for.

Seconding this: Rappaccini's Garden now has a section at the very bottom called Rappaccini's Apiary, with 11 different types of honey. Hemlock Honey is almost a top 10 for me. Gorgeous. Oleander Honey is a step down from that but still 'pretty good.' Yellow Jessamine Honey is too sweet/florally, and gets a resounding 'eh.' The incomparably lovely ScaryDoll is sending me Horse Chestnut Honey as we shriek, will try to remember to report back. Edit: a little too much chestnut for yours truly, especially when first on. The Lights of Men's Lives is a lovely, warm, subtle sweetness. O is, to my mind, overrated, but does better with aging. (*ducks*)

Adding to the list Candles Moon: "Moonlight shining on the Quickening Tree, the heat and wax of sacred candles, the milk of ewes, Brigid's blackberry, the sting of keening wind, and the last flutter of the Cailleach's winter snow." It doesn't sound too 'snowy,' but it does have that as an ingredient, so feeding your ocd...

To answer - must-haves (I could possibly go my entire life and only wear the following scents:) Samhain Death of Autumn Smiling Spider (the ultimate goth scent, and thus autumnal.) October A step behind must-have, but still fine in their own right: Falling Leaf Moon (a lighter Samhain with rain) November (a wintery October.) Devil's Night (love it for the first half hour or so before it dries down to a cinnamon bonfire scent that's nice but not must-have.) Pretty good: Lamb's Wool (the perfect apple scent, but more "cheery autumn" than I'd like.) Samhainophobia (Nice but not as nice as Samhain, and similar enough that I'd never opt for it over said 'hain.) "Eh" on me: Chant d'automne (too acrid) Jack (too buttery pumpkin and not spooky enough)

Dracul. It's pretty good (but it's no Smiling Spider. ) No leather, but your clove, tobacco and black musk are present: DRACUL Named in honor of Vlad III, Tepes, of the Order of the Dragon. Black musk, tobacco, fir, balsam of peru, cumin, bitter clove, crushed mint, and orange blossom.

This *might* count: NIGHT-GAUNT No one ever found what the night-gaunts took, though those beasts themselves were so uncertain as to be almost fabulous. Carter asked them if night-gaunts sucked blood and liked shiny things and left webbed footprints, but they all shook their heads negatively and seemed frightened at his making such an inquiry. When he saw how taciturn they had become he asked them no more, but went to sleep in his blanket. Their scent of their slick, rubbery hides is bittersweet, ticklish, and skin-creeping: something akin to yuzu, white grapefruit, and kumquat mixed with the snow-dusted flowers of Mount Ngranek. I don't actually like this scent that much, but for completion, I thought I'd mention it.

I snagged November '07 from Ebay (autumn leaves under the first snowfall of the year) and it is quite nice after it dries. I have Snow White and The First Soft Snow on order from the Lab as well. Keep the recs coming.
