the proto is fruitier than the released version of Mme. Moriarty. There is plum but also some other tart fruit. Much lighter on the red musk but it is still in there. Not getting any of the vanilla of the released version which really helps to deepen and round out the plum.

BANANAS!!! Wait, let me sniff again. BANANAS! On it becomes a much softer vanilla infused banana blend with green hints in the background. It just makes me smile
-
nothing butter about this, it is a clean dark metalic blend, like a lab with a bunsen burner aflame in the background
-
Smells like sugary red hots, pumpkin and a teeny tiny hint of blueberry. Didn't get the blueberry til I skin tested, couldn't smell it at all in the bottle. But I would really describe this as a cinnamon pumpkin blend.

Hello Smutastic awesomesauce! Many thanks to the great and powerful PersianMouse for the sniffie of this. Maeve is a musky, dark, resinous, gorgeous blend. There is a hint of something nutty but it is fairly light. I just can't stop sniffing my wrist.

So, to be clear... BPAL "purchases component oils from many, many small companies" and none of those oils are pre-fabricated fragrance/aromatic oils. BPAL is cruelty free. It is vegan, with exception to the honey products.I read your post multiple times and I didn't see this address so if it has been, I apologize for seeming dense but... It is correct to say the oils are all-natural, right? That none of the component oils used for perfumes currently being sold on the website are synthetic? I don't care about these things but there has been a lot of confusion earlier in the thread, before I joined and it would be useful to clear that up now.
if there are synthetics used what does it matter? Truly. Because I really want to know. How in the world would using a synthetic matter if that was the best possible scent for the results she wanted?
-
Bravo Beth. Your integrity is a huge part of why I love BPAL so much.
-
a number of bpal blends over the years have had to be discontinued because their components could no longer be sourced. If they just used synthetics WTF would they have to be discontinued? Because you can always get synthetics.

This is like an evil version of Port Jelly. Am getting vetiver or a dark patchouli with the sweet port wine scent coming out underneath. A much more dark incense feel to this with a lot of depth

Love this!!! Starts out total banana bread on me then the benzoin/caramel notes come out so it smells all warm and snuggly. Definate foody but that mellows as it dries down. This is one of those blends that just makes me smile. it also has some great throw to it.

Anyone have pics of the proto labels from the latest trunk show?

this is like the best of Samhain and my beloved Harvest Moon 05 combined. It has that atmospheric smokiness that is so hard for me to describe. It smells like a cool, crisp fall night. Wonderful. It stays very close to the skin and doesn't amp up but just stays a soft evocative blend.

this went on very tangerines, cream, and bubblegum! It was very sweet and rich and girly. Then it dried down to a gorgeous soft tangerine and sandalwood. lovely!

pulled this blend out last night in a random grab. I put it on and immediatly got a sweet honeysuckle scent from it. That softened in just a few minutes and it became a warm vanilla blend.

Before I knew how rare this was going to be I had decided I needed multiple backup bottles as I liked it so much. It reminds me of some of my favorite bpal blends yet is like nothing I have smelled before. It is smut without the smuttiness, Hellion only with melon, Hunter Moon 07 but with fewer musks. I love this blend. It is resinous without being dark, musky without being overwhelming, melony with out being all about fruit. If you have a change to get your hands on a bottle I highly - HIGHLY - recommend it. Just beautiful

KROENEN
Shining black leather, gleaming metal, labdanum, and myrrh.
I flat out love this one. It is very darkly elegent and uber sexy. Woods, vetiver, maybe patchouli and frankincense and musk. If a guy was wearing this I would be totally snuggling up to him but it smells like awesomesauce on me so who needs men. -
They were all so hungry the following morning. Zebediah T. Crawcrustle had a comedic apron on, with the words KISS THE COOK written upon it in violently green letters. He had already sprinkled the brandy-soaked raisins and grain beneath the stunted avocado tree behind the house, and he was arranging the scented woods, the herbs, and the spices on the bed of charcoal. Mustapha Stroheim and his family had gone to visit relatives on the other side of Cairo.
"Does anybody have a match?" Crawcrustle asked.
Jackie Newhouse pulled out a Zippo lighter, and passed it to Crawcrustle, who lit the dried cinnamon leaves and dried laurel leaves beneath the charcoal. The smoke drifted up into the noon air.
"The cinnamon and sandalwood smoke will bring the Sunbird," said Crawcrustle.
"Bring it from where?" asked Augustus TwoFeathers.
"Why, where it always is, third lane after the old market in the Suntown district, just before you reach the old drainage ditch that was once an irrigation canal, and if you find yourself outside One-eye Khayam's carpet shop you have gone too far, "began Crawcrustle. "But I see by the expressions of irritation upon your faces that you were expecting a less succinct, less accurate description. Very well. It is in Suntown, and Suntown is in Cairo, in Egypt, where it always is, or almost always."
Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab is thrilled to present a numbered, limited edition chapbook of Neil Gaiman's acclaimed short story, Sunbird, beautifully illustrated by Julie Dillon. Each package includes a 5ml bottle of perfume, created by Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab, that was inspired by the tale. In Neil's words, "'Sunbird' smells like resin and deserts and the phoenix." This set is a limited run of 1000. 250 were sold by CBLDF at San Diego Comic Con 2009, and the remainder are available through the Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab web site. Sunbird will be available on the BPAL site as long as supplies last. This is a charitable, not-for-profit venture: proceeds from every single set go to the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund, which works to preserve and protect the First Amendment rights of the comics community.
A million thanks and all our love to Neil, and to Charles Brownstein and his staff at the CBLDF!
So I was totally blessed to recieve this from Beth and the lab and all I can say is "wow". I about peed my pants waiting for Snow. Glass. Apples. and I have to say, I like Sunbird even better. This is one of those super well blended scents that is really hard to pin down. It is unisex. It is sort of carnation spicy in a dark way. If I really try I can trick my brain into thinking there is smoke but truely I don't get any. Something resinous seems to be in the mix as well as something evergreenish in the drydown. It is just gorgeous. -
I've had, 5 or 6 imps of anaconda and they are a light golden brown color. For me it smells like snake oil plus sugar skull. Very sugary but don't get any lemon from it. Sorry
-
I'm totally getting a fruity plum vibe from this. So much so that I am just renaming it Hellion Room Spray. I'm in love.
I have to thank Bill for picking this out for me With this ultra excellent selection you are pulling ahead of Brian as my go to labbie crush.

Hmmm...guess this pretty much answers my question about the Perfumed Court too....here is where they are selling decants.I wish I hadn't supported this business, but too late now. I won't, however, buy again.
not to mention that the Illustrated Woman isn't "rare" - Weird.

Love this! has the same sweet sugary feel at Candy Phoenix. The sweet pea and Lemon sort of combine in a way that has a watermelon scent to it.
