Little Bird

This is an intense, perfumey floral on my skin. The tuberose smells sharp and white floral-ish on me, in a way that unfortunately gives me a headache. There's also lots of bright, yellowy smelling jasmine and a little bit of rose. It winds up being a very perfumey smelling jasmine with a hint of rose.

This had a lot of interesting notes in it, but I'm really only getting the rose and pomegranate. It's a perfumey, musky smelling, slightly sharp rose with the dry, tart pomegranate in the background. It comes off as sort of high pitched and sour smelling on my skin, but I don't really get along well with the lab's pom note. I wish I were getting some of the vanilla and fig.

I love the black patchouli in Depraved and the patchouli in Banshee Beat, but this reminds me of the sour patchouli in occupywallstreet. It has the same dry, sour, woody, cedar-ish edge. I was hoping that the honey and vanilla amber would be reminiscent of O, but I don't really get much sweetness from this. The amber seems to add a warm, powdery feel, but I don't really get any vanilla or honey. I don't like this patch note and it's overall just not sweet enough for me.

I actually love geranium and wish that it were stronger here (I get a slight spicy-herbal tone from Sic Erit, but not much, and it fades away in the drydown). I'm getting mostly red musk and a dry, sharp, slightly sour smelling patchouli from this blend. I was hoping for more benzoin/resin and geranium, but the red musk overpowers all of the other notes on me.

Quaeris is mostly red currant and honey on me, so it smells pretty much exactly like Tomoe Gozen. The red currant is sour, tart, and slightly citrus smelling (like a red berry with a hint of lemonade), and the honey and sugar give it a sweet, musky/perfumey feel. This isn't really a sweet scent on me, though, more of a tart, fruity smell. It turns a bit soapy smelling on me in the drydown. Fades really quickly on me, only lasting about 45 minutes total.

Smells like sharp pepper, sickly sweet honey, and a bad musk with a touch of soap that reminds me of hairspray. It also has that cheap, plasticy undertone that I get from a lot of the RPG blends. I don't think that the RPG blends are made with very high quality oils, because they remind me more of soap making oils and have a harsh, off quality to them. Got another frimp of this and tried it again and it is basically a beeswax single note on my skin, right down to being waxy and a touch smoky. Light burning a sweet beeswax candle. .

Chemical and sharp, reminds me of grapefruit scented/flavored sparkling water, extremely zesty. When I originally tried this in 2013, I smelled cucumber, but I don't get that impression anymore. Dries down more literally dry smelling and soapy. Like soapy dryer sheets scented with sharp citrus peel and "spring rain" soapiness.

There's a whole thread about variations here: Bpal variations. This is one of the main reasons I don't buy as much bpal anymore (if I like a bottle of something, I can never be sure that I'll get the same scent again). I had multiple bottles of a lot of things and most of them smell different from each other. I've noticed big differences with a lot of the Carnaval blends as they went along as well.

Eclipse kind've reminds me of Druglord - "A delicious blend of bitter almond, vanilla, frankincense and heliotrope, with a drop of cinnamon." Sin is good for a patchouli & cinnamon - "Thouroughly corrupted: amber, sandalwood, black patchouli and cinnamon."

I've seen red Mouse's Long & Sad Tale imps. I've gotten a lot of weird imps that were a lot darker or lighter than they used to be lately. Most of my comparisons to my older bottles smell slightly different as well (some very different). The color and scent variations seem to be common.

This is by far my favorite of bpal's single notes. I love it and it smells like a complete and utter dream on my husband. It's like sticky, sweet chewing tobacco and dead leaves with a slight black peppery spiciness to it. It's rich, earthy, sweet and so dark and amazing. The drydown smells like fall leaves, tobacco sweetness, a hint of campfire, and peppery cologne. Dark and outdoorsy. It's really hard to describe this one and do it justice. It's just the best tobacco ever.

I managed to track down a decant of this one, curious about the benzoin, lychee, starfruit and carrot combo.. But this is mostly a blah citrus and sharp iris smell on me. Nondescript and perfumey citrus-floral.

On me, this is slightly sweet, slushy, cool snow note & pine with a drydown that smells a bit like soapy white floral.

My decant of this doesn't really smell too dark or fruity, especially at first. It goes on reminding me of laundry soap and spring flowers, all sharp and clean, and dries down to a smoky, darker, but still very perfumey floral on my skin. I'm not great with florals, but I don't think I'm getting any rose.. maybe a perfumey orchid like the one in Shadow Witch Orchid.

I just have a partial decant of Heretic, and it's probably enough for me, as I do own bpal's that are similar-but-better to my nose. It's mostly a dark, deep incense smell with a perfumey muskiness and what reminds me of earthy patchouli. It reminds me a little of red musk as well, but more flat and not as sweet as red musk usually is on me. I think I'm getting a bit of beeswax sweetness in the drydown, but mostly it turns into a perfumey/musky smelling incense on my skin.

Most of the Rappaccini's Garden scents have an herbal/medicinal aspect to me. Ya-Te-Vo especially had a medicinal feel (menthol-y). And I agree that bpal's sage note often smells very medicinal and herbal.

This mostly smells like perfumey floral and something like baby powdery sandalwood to me. Not my sort of scent.

A very soft, almost sweet dirt note (like in The Lovers and Death Cap) with a sweet, sharp fruity-floral feel underneath it. A hint of red fruit and generic women's perfume. Must be the incense giving me that impression. The green herbs are like Ochosi, but in this blend, they're in the background, a barely there sort of whisper in the scent. Mostly a cloying fruity-floral something, for some reason. I really don't care for this blend.

I was hoping that the bay rum and white musk would make this more unisex/sexy-masculine leaning, but it's all super-sweet, cloying honey and a hint of soapiness (like men's shaving cream). A lot of the RPG scents wind up smelling cheap on me and reminding me of soap/candle making oils, and this is like a very sweet, sickly sweet, cheap honey with a waxiness and burning plastic quality to it. It doesn't smell at all like a high quality oil and gives me a headache after a few minutes. .

All of the Lick It scents are starting to blur together for me with their peppermint + slight variations. I know I love Lick It 05, and Lick It Softly is also nice, though more vanilla sugary as people have already mentioned. It starts off with a blast of peppermint and then dries down to vanilla sugar with a hint of clean, bracing mint. I don't get much of the musky notes.

I wasn't really sure what this smells like, but reading over the other reviews, it does seem to have an odd, floral honey overlay to the very dry gingerbread scent. As it dries down, there's a powdery incense edge to it as well. It doesn't smell delicious or as foodie as I was expecting, almost like a dusty, dried out gingerbread on my skin. I was surprised that this isn't really spicy or strong on me.

I'd definitely recommend Magus for a woody scent: *Magus (Bewitching Brews) - "An ancient blend, swollen with arcane power: galangal, high john essence, frankincense, cedar, and sandalwood." And maybe Lear: *Lear (Illyria) - "White cedarwood, blue sage and bay leaf." For some unusual green type scents, you might look into these: *51 (Wanderlust) - "Luminescent, glowing, and otherworldly: green mandarin, neroli, honeydew, white amber, guava, freesia, white and green musks hovering over desert scrub, smashed wood, and the dry, biting scent of night air over the Groom Lake salt flats." *The Apothecary (Illyria) - "Tea leaf with three mosses, green grass, a medley of herbal notes, and a drop of ginger and fig." *Bayou (Wanderlust) - "A lazy, warm deep green scent with a thick aquatic undertone: Spanish moss, evergreen and cypress with watery blue-green notes and an eddy of hothouse flowers and swamp blooms." *Jazz Funeral (Ars Moriendi) - "Bittersweet bay rum, bourbon, and a host of funeral flowers with a touch of graveyard dirt, magnolia and Spanish Moss." *Nostrum Remedium (Pharmacopoeia) - "Black tea leaf, invigorating wasabi, and honey." *Ochosi (Excolo) - "His ofrenda is the soft shea he shares with Obatala, forest herbs, and sprucewood arrow shafts." *Envy (Sin & Salvation) - "Green herbs slithering through mint, lime and lavender." *Rocking-Horse-Fly (Mad Tea Party) - "Shellacked wood, sap, sawdust, and privet." *Ya-Te-Vo (Rappaccini's Garden) - "Barbed, sanguinary greenery, fleshy and sharp."

My decant of this is mostly a slightly soapy, slightly baby powdery, cool, clean skin musk. There are hints of sharp black pepper and an almost watery smelling honey as well, that seem to weave in and out of the scent. I wish that it were stronger on the black pepper for me. I thought that this might smell nice on my hubby (I love it when he wears black pepper scents), but it turns really powdery on him.

First on, this smells like powdery black musk and a slightly sour amber to me with a dark, deep, resinous undertone. The resinous feel gets stronger in the drydown. It winds up smelling like dry, dark, powdery incense and pen ink on my skin (which works for me). I like it now (in the drydown, at least), but I think that this will get even better with age.

I got a bottle of this directly from the lab and it is only full to the top of the label and someone clearly marked (with what looks like permanent black marker) the low fill level halfway around the bottle. So that's weird. And also sad, because I do love this scent and wish it were full. I digress. When I first put this on, it smelled exactly like Anne Beany (caramelized, boozy rum) and I was ready to wash it off. Thankfully, within about 30 seconds, this completely changes and kind of reminds me of LUSH's Vanillary. It's like vanilla bean creme brulee with a warm, dry, floral vanilla feel all around it. I was afraid of the rum in this, but it quickly dries down to no rum on my skin. It's more like a warm, sensual, floral vanilla with a crunchy, sugary crust. It's pretty sweet on me, but doesn't get anywhere close to turning cloying. All in all, I love this one and wish I'd ordered two bottles. It does smell similar to LUSH's Vanillary on me, though, which I already do own two bottles of (and that's how I'm talking myself out of placing a last minute order for more of this, lol). ETA: Wound up selling this, because it turned too sour-floral and had a chemical, burnt sugar edge to it and a whiff of burnt rubber. Just went off after about a year. I never really wore it before then, either, because the perfumey sugar edge in it kind of turned me off. LUSH's Vanillary won out.
