    Bobbing for Smut

This year's Bobbing scents are so apple dominant on me that I struggle to pick out the other notes in the blends. This one starts off like a sugary candied apple that's slightly perfumey/musky (but not darkly musky like Smut) and dries down reminding me of a red apple soap that I once had from Bath & Body Works. Smut is usually so strong to me and I just can't pick it out of this blend. I guess maybe I'm getting the extra sugar from Smut, but none of the dark musk or booze.

Dead Leaves, Boot Leather, and Sweet Grass

Bpal's leather notes can do no wrong for me. I don't like the fresh, green, wet dead leaves note, but I even enjoy that note here when paired with this soft, well worn boot leather, like it's so soft and well worn in that I just want to touch it. It smells like springtime with fresh, new leaves and spring rains and a cowboy pulling on his favorite boots and walking across a field. A little cologne-like. I've been wearing Three Pairs of Shoes lately and this is like a colder, cleaner, not as sweet leather surrounded by greenery. Both soft boot leathers, but so different in character and supporting notes. I might full size my decant of this Dead Leaves.

Dead Leaves, Praline, and Sheer Vanilla

This one is weird on my skin. I get the clean aquatic cologne dead leaves for a bit and then there's more of a woody nuttiness and plasticy vanilla caramel thing. I think I expected a stronger caramelized note. The sheer vanilla comes off a little clean, sharp and white musky on me in the drydown, I think. Low throw and doesn't last long on me.

    Bobbing for Jack O’Lanterns

Jack, at least the older bottle that I have, is more buttery than spicy, and Bobbing For Jack is very spicy on my skin. This goes straight into cheap holiday candle territory on my skin, with the air freshener apple, plasticy peach, and sharp, dry cinnamon. I only lasted about a half hour before I washed this one off.

    Bobbing for Ball Gags

Tart, juicy apple sweetened with a small drizzle of realistic, freshly squeezed from a plastic bottle type of honey. I actually don't smell any of the leather. The Bobbing scents this year tended to be way too apple-y for my tastes, even Bobbing for Blood Kisses (which I full bottled because I love Blood Kiss so much) didn't have much more going on other than the apple.

Dead Leaves, Vanilla Bean, Pink Fig, and Brandied Dates

Yum. I usually enjoy bpal's fig notes, and this one is gourmand and creamy with no noticeable spice notes, so I am really enjoying it. A hint of earthy, sweet dates, a bit of creamy sweetness from the vanilla bean, and a woody-sweet fig that somehow really does smell like an idealized version of fig's creamy, pink, candied fruit. I don't really smell the dead leaves at all, and I'm fine with that.

    Pomegranate, Brown Sugar, and Tobacco

My favorite of this year's pomegranate blends. It's more syrupy sweet pom and less tart, powdery and dry in comparison to the other pom blends. I usually hate the scent of brown sugar in perfume, but it isn't in-your-face brown sugar even though the blend is quite sweet. I don't get the tobacco at all. Sweet, bright, pomegranate syrup.

Pomegranate, Freesia, White Tea, and White Amber

White tea tends to be sharp and lemony on me, but it has more of a dry leaf feel here and not as much lemony tones, freesia is usually sharp and air freshener-y to my nose, but I don't really get the floral aspect in this blend, the pomegranate is tart and sweet, and the white amber goes powdery, especially in the drydown. It turns into a sort of tart, pom fruity, powdery amber incense that sits close to the skin.

    Pomegranate Turkish Delight

I'm getting a musky, clean, slightly sour rose and not much else. I expected more sweetness and Turkish delight is one of my favorite sweet treats, but I'm not getting the sugary coating that others have mentioned and I'm not really noticing the pomegranate either.

    Pomegranate Oud

Pomegranate tends to go tart and dry smelling on me, and it's doing that here, leaning a little sour, paired with the dry, woody oud. Sweet tarts and dry wood with a powdery drydown.

Pomegranate, Patchouli, Moss, and Fir Needle

I don't smell the pom at all in this one. I get kind of a misty evergreen note with dry, green moss and damp, earthy patchouli. The drydown is a little less misty and damp, but an overall picture of laying on dry mosses on the floor of a pine forest. Disappears on me after about an hour and there are foresty blends that I like more (several of the duet/menage blends).

Pomegranate, Pink Pepper, and Black Apple

This is disastrous on my skin, but it's 3 notes that I don't tend to get along with, so I'm not shocked about it, lol. The apple is breezy air freshener apple, the pomegranate it overly tart and dry smelling, and the pink pepper smells a little like dry cinnamon. The apple takes over for me in the drydown and I have too much of that association with perfumey, tart apple = air freshener.

    Mettle

I just tried a decant of this blend and went to the site and was sad to see that it's sold out. It's glowing red from the dragon's blood, spicy and earthy from the ginger and pepper, resinous and slightly golden from the frankincense, on a base of warm, woody sandalwood and galangal. I like it a lot, but I've been enjoying sharper, spiced dragon's blood blends lately.

    White Rose

Reminds me of some of the rosewater facial tonics I have used, not quite soapy, but clean, light, dewy and refreshing. A little coolness from the herbal lavender. Doesn't last long on me, but is pleasant and pretty.

    Bounce

Smells like orange gummi candy and orange lollipops with a little bit of warm, cozy spiciness (not a strong or distinct spice, but a warm and comforting essence) from the carnation and an undertone of creaminess and pink bubblegum. It is sweet and cheerful (and long lasting on me). It stays orange candy and pink bubblegum sweet even in the drydown, but more of the creamy blossom and creamy vanilla aspects come through over the hours. A cheerful and sweet scent that I haven't actually worked with yet, though I probably should, because I've been very depressed lately and any little bit might help.

    Temple: Witches

I've gone through a couple bottles of Temple: Witches now and it's an oil that I feel an affinity for. I only use it to dress candles, but it feels right to me in most circumstances and like it adds a little offering and oomph to whatever I am doing. It makes me feel more connected. To me, it's like equal parts wafts of incense smoke and frankincense and equal parts clean, green herbs.

    Harvest Moon Love Potion

I wish that I had ordered more than one bottle of this blend. I usually hate apple scents and this is an apple scent, but it's so good and so sweet with a lot of depth and complexity to it. The lemony, sweet cubeb and sweet, dusky cocoa powder reminds me of Cerberus (one of my favorites), there's a little vanilla cream, and the apple is richly sweet with the rose melding into it and giving it a realistic, rosy, glowing freshness. I like it when perfumers mix apple + rose to give the apple more depth and dewy, juicy realism. It all just works together so well. A delightful, fruity, autumnal gourmand with no spices to ruin it. It hasn't helped me in any love potions or attraction rituals as of yet, but I will wear it as a perfume.

    Bergamot, Orange Blossom & Vetiver

The vetiver isn't showing up to the party for me, just the bergamot and orange blossom. The combo is a bit sharp on me, like a slightly sour citrus cologne with a soapy undertone. I like a sweeter and creamier orange blossom, but I think the lemony, bright bergamot is making this a little too sharp for my tastes.

    Blueberry, Tobacco, and Pink Pepper

Sweet, gooey blueberry, like blueberry pie filling, with pink pepper doing its usual odd thing on me (pink bubblegum and a hint of cinnamon). The pink pepper fades away over time and I can start to smell hints of the tobacco, dark and sweetly earthy and slightly smoky. It kind of reminds me of a blueberry jam tea that I own that's made with dried blueberries and black tea.

    Honeycomb, Lemon, and Sugar Cane

I knew that I wasn't going to love this because honey + lemon will always make me think of cough drops and give me a medicinal impression. My dad used to always buy the Ricola Honey & Lemon flavored cough drops and that's immediately what this reminds me of. The honey is strongest on me, followed by the lemon, and I don't get much of a sugared impression.
  21. I feel like I've smelled this sort of scent so many times, this foresty resin and beeswax candles type of scent, but I prefer it to be more complex, dark and smoky. This trio starts off very piney and a little sour on my skin and then more of the beeswax and a sweet, golden, resinous, smooth frankincense take over. Bpal's beeswax note is so realistic to the scent of unlit beeswax candles, but I have always found that scent a little off-putting when it's so strong and in a simple blend like this one. It's realistically waxy, creamy, and almost musty honey.

    A Hundred Years Ago

Sour, lemony verbena and bergamot mixed into a strong soap base.

    Asleep in the Deep

The opium and sea salt are sharp and soapy, reading as a high pitched ozone on my skin. I want the plum and amber-y tones, but they never really come out to play. Over time, I can smell a little bit of sweet resin, but it's not enough for me.

    Row Bullies Row

Goes on in a maraschino cherry/almond extract blast that quickly dries down to a boozy butterscotch and heavy, realistic, freshly squeezed from a bear shaped bottle sort of honey. I don't love the honey and the boozy part goes a little sour on me over time.

At Martynesmasse I Kylle My Swine

I wasn't sure about this one because brown sugar tends to be a death note for me, honey is iffy, and I'm getting kinda sick of cardamom showing up so much in the indie perfume world nowadays (I have cardamom fatigue.. but never clove fatigue, lol). Nutty notes always have sort of a dry, wooden quality to them and this medley of nuts is like dry wood with hints of creaminess and toasted warmth. There's a little bit of well-behaved spice in the drydown and a drizzle of honey over the roasted nuts. It's soft and delicate, sitting close to the skin and only lasting a couple hours on me. It has a cozy, foraging in the woods in early fall type of vibe and almost reads as a quality sandalwood type of smell on my skin at points.
