    Morgause

Ahhhh- I feel Queenly when wearing Morgause! First impression: very purple. The violet is dark but still sweet, the florals are subtle and it mixes together for a sensual but regal fragrance. This is gorgeous- from wet application to violety, powdery drydown. Two thumbs up (if I had more thumbs they'd be up, too.) This is absolutely lovely.

    Black Forest

Oh how beautiful this is. Cypress especially, pine and juniper make this a reflective mix that makes me feel like I am standing in a deep forest. Sadly, the only thing not working about this is that it disappears almost immediately. I think I'll have to slather- it's too lovely to miss.

How do you apply your BPAL oils?

I turn over my 5 ml with the lid tight, put it back upright, open the lid and apply what's on the edge of the bottle. It works!

    Dove's Heart

I have read the previous reviews and I SO agree with the description of the scent as 'compassionate'. It is a very calming, balancing mixture. I do so love my violet and I find it here, mixed with herbs and green things. I am not expert at picking out notes, so let's just say that Beth has made another astounding gift for us here. It has made me feel really good today- it's an intangible, but a noticeable 'uplifting' in my mood. No offense, but the voodoo blends usually do not thrill me, but I love this and want it with me always.

    Snake Charmer

I think this should be a non LE keeper! It is really a decadent, rich fragrance. I notice the plum (lightly) and amber and perhaps a bit of coconut. It's sexy, earthy and spicy. I am glad that I added this bottle to my order at the last minute.

    Tezcatlipoca

Whoa! Chocolate, patchouli and incense all mingled together in an ultra sexy deep, delicious mixture. Wet, it's pure deep cocoa goodness. As it dries, the incense and a faint whiff of patchouli peeks out. I also swear there are spices in there as well. This is gorgeous, and definitely big bottle worthy! Amazing, just amazing.

    Utrennyaya

This is beautiful! I am an unabashedly violet loving soul, and I get it here. Not a heady violet, more subdued. The palmarosa and delphinium come through, but no mint! I love the subtlety of this one. Utrennyaya is linear on me from wet to drydown. It just becomes a little softer and mellower. I think it is a worthy addition to the lineup of choices.

    Tenochtitlan

I was 'frimp'ed' this by the lab in my last order (thanks, lab!). This imp is puzzling to me. I can notice a whole number of fragrances, but can't pick a single one out! My overall impression is of Mexico- green, slightly herby and this makes me think of tequila. It is piquant and fresh. Dang, I do not like being totally not able to pick out even one note! Beth, your art of the blend is beyond amazing! I like this though, and wish it stayed on my skin and lingered a bit more.

    Carnivàle

FYI- this is a decanted imp of the original Carnivale. In the imp, all cherry cough syrup! On the skin wet, it turns into a lovely cherry berry lively scent that makes me feel very happy. I only smell a tiny bit of the carnation. As it dries, I am waiting for the amber & musk, but they did not arrive. The cherry berry fragrance is still going strong and has mellowed much like a fine wine. It really is a favorite and I may need to order a bottle before it goes away again. It's beautiful.

    Midway

Oh, this bottle of Midway makes me so happy! It just conjures up all sorts of happy memories. Putting it on makes me feel like I am getting ready to go to the carnival or to the beach with its pier full of carnival rides! It is buttery, warm, and I notice almost a popcorn-y flavor to it. Couple that with the sugar from the funnel cakes, cotton candy, caramel on the apples and this is a scent that just transports me to joyous moments. Genius. Beth, you've outdone yourself on this one

    Dance of Death

This is indeed dry, as dry as bone. It is elegant, aloof and perfectly balanced. The orris adds a depth, the patchouli is understated and altogether it makes for a gloriously fragrant experience. This definitely is Lady Death in all her finery. I like this, I like it a lot and it may well become a staple.

    Othello

This little imp of Othello was a gift from the lab, and I thought to myself, being Saturday night and all, and my honey and I were both home together that we both could wear it and see what the evening brings! I have to say that Othello smelled lovely on me, but it made my husband completely deliciously scented! We both got *some* rose from this, but it's not too floral at all. The spices ground it quite a bit, and it is a sensual, slightly heavy fragrance. As always, beautifully crafted; highly wearable.

    Lightning

Being the little Cancer crab that I am, I love all things ocean. This imp of Lightning did not disappoint! The complete ocean/ozone/wind/rain/salt mist experience is all here in this little imp. How they heck does the lab do it? It is beautiful from wet application to drydown. It fades gradually, just like you are slowly driving away from an oceanside vacation. This may have large bottle status, and soon.

    Freak Show

Oh my, nothing freaky or disconcerting about this one to me! It's absolutely gorgeous! When I sniff the bottle, I get a big whiff of chocolate (never a bad thing to me...) and a different, light musk- oooh, it's the honey musk. The fig blends beautifully in, the pomegranate lends a sweetness and on me at least, the lemon is absent. I can't call this a cacaphony because I feel that all the notes compliment each other and it all turns into a rich, sensual, to die for cocoa fragrance. This is exquisite. It's complex but not a jumble. I like this a lot

    Peitho

Ooohh, I like this! Upon applying it I immediately notice the jasmine, but it's soft and not cloying. It seems to be tempered by the stargazer lily and a faint touch of vanilla. I get a little sandalwood and I don't know enough about myrtle to pick it out! This is beautifully mixed, crafted so well that not a single note stands out too much. Upon the drydown, I just receive a sensual, warm mix of faint florals with a deep undertone of musk. It's so subtle, but so good. This is a keeper, and it was a gift from the lab, too!

    Queen Gertrude

Queen Gertrude somehow strikes me as being a wistful fragrance. It is definitely a mature fragrance, cool, icy and chilly with the beautiful violet at the forefront. Most reviewers have mentioned 'green', but to me this is a very blue scent, making me think of violets that have been laid upon fresh snow. I sadly can't come up with more than that, but it's just what this Queen reminds me of. It is my favorite violet thus far of all I've tried. Lovely.

    Desdemona

Desdemona is so lovely and pure, somehow. It is airy and seductive but not overly so. It has an innocence about it. The sweet pea is predominant on me and it dried down to a powdery floral whisper. I didn't think I'd like it at first (too girly, maybe?), but I have become a fan of this subtle scent, especially when I want to wear something that is less potent.

    Eos

This can be described as just plain pretty. It's light and the jasmine and honeysuckle merge into a soft, springlike day. This is innocence in a bottle. It kind of melts into my skin and becomes a breathtakingly clear floral. Another genius concoction from Beth and the lab.

    Wolfsbane

Very interesting. This smells like it should be *good* for you, all herby and woodsy. I get a mental image of someone's granny or aunt mixing up a potion to ease you through a cold or flu (but not a bad potion, just something medicinal). This is a lovely fragrance, full of pine and moss. I get a slight hint of vetiver, but not enough to darken it too much. It's very lovely.

    Nemesis

Cypress, ginger, fig, dried rose, red patchouli, tonka bean and cyclamen. (Gender neutral) This was a frimp from the lab- thanks lab! Oh man, they're SO good to us... I like Nemesis. I never would have picked it for myself, but I adore piney, cypress scents and tonka is a favorite. I pick up the cypress immediately, and the tonka peeks out upon the drydown. The fig sweetens things up a little bit and the red patchouli brings it back down to earth. This is a genius blending, very striking.

    Szepasszony

Oh how beautiful! This is light, clear and radiant. If this fragrance had a color, it would be yellow- it reminds me of the early Spring with flowers blooming and then a late snow falls and frosts the petals. It is aquatic, slightly floral and citrusy and cool all at the same time. This is so gorgeous- it will become a staple for me. Thanks lab for the idea and for creating this. It is just perfect.

    Queen

I had such hopes for this! In the bottle: I did not think I'd like this- tried it anyway. Upon application, it turned sourish one me, and I got the sour baby powder note. Grrrrrr for the wonders of chemistry When the drydown started, (this is gross- warning!) it smelled like baby powder mixed with cat urine or something like that. Off to swap! One never knows just what these little jewels of scent will turn into! I shall stand firm and try even more that I think will be interesting- I usually like or love most of BPAL without reservation- just not Queen.

    Santa Eularia Des Riu

I love jasmine and was appreciative of the frimp, but surprised that it does not work for me. It's just very clashing on my skin. The jasmine is tempered by something I can't put my finger on. It is pretty, but not meshing with my chemistry. *sigh* I got no herbs from it, and got a bit of citrus. Oh, I wished it would be for me, but alas, it's not. Off to the swap pile.

    Mad Hatter

Ah, the joy of real pennyroyal! Either you love it or you don't, I think. No neutral opinions on pennyroyal around here This is bracing, fresh and light to me. I get overwhelmingly the mint of pennyroyal, a faint hit of citrus and lavender, just a smidge. Wet, the mint is biting, but I like that. The drydown is quick and the fragrance fades quickly on me. I wish Mr. Mad Hatter would hang around more_ I really like him

    Ultraviolet

Oh, I love love love this! Admittedly, I am a violet nut, and this is just so perfect. It is icy violets that have been frozen and are starting to thaw. The eucalyptus is in perfect balance, the mint pops out and when it starts the drydown, I get a faint neroli. The entire time, the violet is still predominant and warming up ever so slightly. I can't say enough how I love this. It may be my favorite scent of the 50 or so BPAL scents I have tried. Beautifully and amazingly thought out all the way through. Bravo!
