    White Rose

expectations- creamy light rose imp- sweet candy wet- rose comes out, so soft- and the a lovely creamy coconut~ fantastic! I think it's important to keep in mind that the description is for rose buds, not blooms- the other notes play as large a role as the buds do. Wee roses! The vanilla tea and coconut meat waltz side by side with the white rose buds~ (ETA: reminds me of the cream not in white rabbit, but with a rose addition.) drydown- gorgeous and creamy verdict- These are so lovely! I put white rose on one arm and red on the next~ must track down a bottle.

    Red Rose

expectations- spicy lush rose imp- exactly what I wanted!- spicy, lush and red red rose~ wet- spice amps! Although think it's important to keep in mind that the description is for rose buds, not blooms- the other notes play as large a role as the buds do. I'm picking up a musky clove/tobacco~yum! drydown- strong n' tasty stuff~ verdict- These are so lovely! I put white rose on one arm and red on the next~ must track down a bottle...!

    Giant Vulva

expectation- beeswax has become one of my favorite notes, and musk as well- a honeyed musk please~ imp- gorgeous, exactly what I wanted. Like a less metallic/insense heavy Engine No.9 wet- copal comes out right away with the beeswax-almost pine like. not too sweet- perhaps the sugar cane? a green sweetness- drydown- odd- less beeswax verdict- uncertain, need more time with you! to be continued....

    Man With Phallus Head

expectation- a juicy current musk, with a touch of smoke imp- nice! Ribena musk, what I wanted~NOM! wet- oh wow- i adore this, that black current musk makes me wild! a bit on the powder-y, side not sure how well that will sit with me over time-but lovely! Really amping the musk on this one-woo! drydown- the juicy aspect of the current is gone, sandlewood comes out more-with MUSK MUSK MUSK~ verdict- not sure about that powder, it might keep this from being bottle worthy for me-

    Voyeurs Among the Cherry Blossoms

expectations- well I adore Kyoto's creamy spicy sakura, and perhaps this be similar sans spice, more green. (Spirit of Komachi was too water-y for me) imp- the vanilla musk is stronger than I thought, leaning towards a cologne-ish feel-well then! a little plastic-y? perhaps the moss? wet- quiet! where did that strong scent go? quite close to the skin, very soft. the moss and vanilla musk is amping out the cherry blossom. drydown- a little later the blossom comes out, making it a bit more tasty. still somewhat put off by the vanilla musk/moss though. verdict- alas- I was looking forward to this one so, but I ultimately prefer my GC Kyoto!

    Melainis

expectations- rich oozy and red fruit concentrate! so many interesting notes, hoping to downplay the frankincense.... imp- woah- reminds me of a sort of old lady perfume. I bet the smell is no indication of how it will be on skin. maybe teak? wet- Certainly 'the dark of night'! the caramel and black musk adds a lovely warmth. somewhat fizzy and bitter. I'm unfamiliar with how some of these notes show themselves though. But now I can detect the tobacco as I find it in Dee. Kind of a spicy root incense, but not like Masabakes-dryer. verdict- meh, fine with a decant. perhaps to be aged, might even swap,

    Lovers in a Ricefield

expectation- less floral, more a creamy, rich, rice pudding~ imp- oh no! smells like plumeria! I hope it morphs... wet- odd- still plumeria-esque, a bit nutty. quite sweet. too rich a floral right now for bottle status- gimme my sandlewood!!! akk, might even wash this off...mew dry- the creamy nutty rice pops out as it dries down, but this scent is still primarily a floral- alas~ verdict- might swap my decant, i'm crushed-mew! ETA:perhaps aging!!! (never give up, never surrender~) week later: I'm warming up to this, obviously plumeria=plum blossom to my untrained schnoze. I suppose I just have a case of the wildly different expectations~

    Earth Ox

expectations- rich juicy punch, not too sweet please let the tobacco step in for a round! imp- aha! here is that honeydew melon that folks have been talkin' about~ wet- pine comes out of the melon, a little citrus too(wee kumquat, i recognize you from the tweedledee) getting softer now, more floral. A lovely festive blend, cheerful and colorful. So into the melon/kumquat/narcissus~ drydown- strong stuff! verdict- just what I wanted, and more~ Love this juicy combo, really reminds me of tweedledee- the imp is super potent so it might last me, but the I'd swap for a bottle!

    Dark Chocolate and Pepper-Smoked Caramel

expectation- spicy smokey cocoa, caramel adding warmth- imp- mmm-yummy. almost boozy in its richness. certainly a cocoa coated caramel! wet- yum, the same! (what I had wanted from Gelt really.) quite a lovely foody blend, not a plastic-y note to it! a possibly ideal cocoa scent, doesn't seem to much more complex than that. waiting on the pepper/smoke- (tiny bit later) ah, yes-the smokey quality is here. coffee whiffs? drydown- mmm-caramel goodness! verdict- does remind me of Misk. U. It's got that boozy warm coffee chocolate goin' on. One of my fav chocolate's so far~

    413 U.S. 15 / Miller Vs. California

expectation- gimme creamy brown paper! Booze and leather are some of my favorite notes, hoping to downplay the fruits.... imp- oddly foody! i can find those ripe berries for sure. wet- there's my dark leather, DeSade style! and berries too-slightly paper-like. a truly odd scent. berry juice is a primary note, coated in leather and the 'paper bag'. haven't found the cognac yet, and I'm assuming the fig is tagging along with the berry. really enjoying that paper note! dark leather. interesting to pair it with such a juicy red berry scent... drydown- paper bag baby~ verdict- meh- not too much in a tizzy up on the berry- decant'll do me just fine. perhap's it'll grow on me~

Manners Among Men and Women in the Red Light District

Expectation- Yearning for woods to be paired with a golden note. I want fruity floor boards! And relatively dry ones, like a wine can taste of its barrel, but remain fruitsome-see? Bottle- I recognize that sake note from Spell of Amorous Love! A smidgen of apricot(march hare-esque) wafts out. Oddly Shampoo like- Johnson &Johnson's baby shampoo. Wet- Yes, it is that sake note of Spell' o Love- I get no woods, which is what I had been mainly expecting. Alas- I feel a bit weepy. Dry Down- decant's enough, possibly swappable.

    Flowering Chrysanthemums

expectations- gimme that sharp, pungent marigold with a warm glowing undercurrent! bottle- outside of the bottle its powdery-coyote?miss lupescu? odd! must be the insense.... opening it-wa! pine tree sap! yum~ wet- tasty, warm and pungent indeed! still making the sap association, quite like that. the amber is coming out, and i wish it wouldn't so i could stay here a while! yes-here is a distinct mum smell now. wavering on the powderlike. drydown- powder ish. verdict- powder makes me call off the hunt, and be calm enough to hoard my implet

    Tissue

Expectations: not toooo floral, creamy sweet please. A honey-ed white paper. In bottle: soapy! A clean smell, perhaps a 'white' smell. and then a warmth moves in-the honey. oddly enough, it reminds me of what i think of as the 'wool' note in Queen Alice~ Wet: mmmmm! My favorite 'wool' note, plus creamy honey-yum! A cozy white sweater, freshly laundered(but not soapy!) the gardenia is present, but only to add a lightly floral tone. exactly what i had wished for- Drydown: these notes become gentle and wispy over time~ a quiet scent. lovely. Verdict: I am glad my decant was in the bottle, so that future decant hunting can commence~

BPAL Fruit Blends - the many variations

You know, first fruity blend I really liked was tweedledee and tweedledum. Certainly not boring! Dee's juicy kumquat and Dum's fresh green patchouli twist~wowza!

    March Hare

mmm- a much warmer apricot then I expected. I originally looked to Grand Guignol for the delivery of apricot goodness, but the imp just became plastic fruit on me. But March Hare is buttery and juicy, with a dash of spice! Most certainly a teatime tart to be deliciously nibbled~ but not with that classic bpal baked goods note. Its well blended to be sure. I am pleasantly surprised, and compelled to make an accompanying cuppa!

    Mutant Hot-Rodders from Hell High

Fantastic! Imagine DeSade style leather, now add a pungent lime- all smokey, peppery, dark leather goodness with zest! You won't see this one turn up to picture day, but it's won me heart~
  19. dreadpiraterustypants2

    Lime!

MUTANT HOT-RODDERS FROM HELL HIGH! Doesn't seem to be the most popular in the class of the X-mas Dark Delicacies scents, but my o my! - A smokey pepper leather lime~ its all love to me. And decant's should be to hard to chase down.

    Woods~

Horay! So many lovely things to lend my snifter to~ I will keep searching hi and lo to add to this list. I got my paws on Frederic, which has a damp and musty rotting floorboard feel-with spice! (barrels of cargo?)

    Fur Scents

Miss Lupescu is a creamy, spicy fur scent similar to Ivanushka~ a beautiful golden glow that needs more love! ( revived old thread just in case anyone else looks up 'fur' like me!)

    Butter Rum Cookie

first wiff- ukk~like all the other scents of overly sweet baked goods that have become barbie tea sets upon my skin before this-(easy bake oven?) on me skin- oh MY! the plastic fake is gone gone gone! what a warm scent this is- confectionary without the cavity. not popcorn butter, more caramelized or rather its really a tone. The rum plays a similar part- it sets the stage for the almond paste with golden spice* what a lovely surprise~ winter comfort! verdict-bottle, bottle, whose's got the bottle!

Could someone list all of the pirate scents?

Yup, consolidatin', making a checklist, same thing! (most of these are in Bewitching Brews and Wanderlust, by the way~) PORT ROYAL The Sodom of the New World! -- touted as the richest and wickedest city in all creation! Port Royal was the center of 17th century Caribbean commerce, a notorious safe harbor for pirates, and the site of our third flagship store, which was, sadly, destroyed in the earthquake of 1692. Spiced rum and ship’s wood mixed with the body-warmed trace of a prostitute’s perfume and a hint of salty sea air on the dry-down. ÎLE DE LA TORTUE Home to the Brethren of the Coast and a notorious safe-haven for pirates, this island was once described as the common place of refuge for all sorts of wickedness, the seminary of pirates and thieves.Damp air trapped in limestone caverns, heady greenery, hothouse orchids, nicotiana blossoms, bois de chandel, elemi, palm wine, garambullo, pega-pega, flame of the forest, and a swirl of Haitian vetiver. WINDWARD PASSAGE Breezes blowing off of the waters of the Caribbean: marine accord, seaweed, and bladderwrack. ANNE BONNY Named in honor of the most notorious female pirate to ever set sail. Wicked, cruel, beautiful, intelligent, resourceful and dangerous: a true role model. A blend of Indonesian red patchouli, red sandalwood, and frankincense. A million thanks to Juliana Williamson-Page for inspiration! BLACK PEARL Evocative of the sea's unplumbed mysteries. Gentle and lovely, but menacing and profound. Coconut, Florentine iris, hazelnut and opalescent white musk. CALICO JACK Sea air, driftwood, waterlogged kelp, and the memory of plundered spices sprayed over worn leathers, rough musk, and the salty wooden floorboards of the Revenge. GROG Arrr! Avast ye, matey! This be the scent of pirate rum! JOLLY ROGER Sea spray with an undercurrent of leather, Bay Rum, and salty, dry woods. MARY READ Salt air, ocean mist, aged patchouli, sarsaparilla, watered-down rum, leather-tinged musk, and a spray of gunpowder. PLUNDER The scent of a pirate's bumboat, overflowing with stolen wares: tea leaf, cassia, cinnamon bark, clove, allspice, sandalwood, tobacco, peppercorn, and nutmeg. UNDERTOW The Dark Side of Water: clean and purifying, yet menacing -- lotus and juniper with a hint of mint. A scent dragged up from the depths to the Stygian shore. THE SAILOR'S DEN (salon) The Sailor's Den, Félicien Rops.Orris, bay rum, palm, coconut meat, oak wood, tobacco, linen, blue lilac, and leather.. TEMPEST A crisp ozone-tinged breeze. The scent of the first gentle rain before the storm. SANTO DOMINGO (Caribbean!) An exotic, sultry blend of tobacco leaf, bay rum and heady Caribbean blossoms. HURRICANE The Dark Side of Air: a high pitched, tangy, clear scent -- light China rain deepened by murky vetivert. and LE ones~ PIRATE MOON Avast thar! On Octobree th' 31st, Pirate Moon be hangin' high in th' sky! Mad Bess Moriarty, Scourge o` th' Se`en Seas, an' Captain T.J. Barrial wi' be joinin' the'r spirits in unholy matrimony! This scent be created t' commemorate th' union o' these two scurrilous sea dogs. So, splice th' mainbrace an' get thee loaded t' th' gunwales, me buckos, 'tis a time o' celebration!Red musk, ambergris, coconut palm, red sandalwood, balsam, date, warm leather, tobacco, ebony, lingum vitae wood, pandanus grass, an' a touch o' lime.20 Dubloons, ya swabbie! FREDERIC For some ridiculous reason, to which, however, I’ve no desire to be disloyal,Some person in authority, I don’t know who, very likely the Astronomer Royal,Has decided that, although for such a beastly month as February, twenty-eight days asa rule are plenty,One year in every four his days shall be reckoned as nine and twenty.Through some singular coincidence – I shouldn’t be surprised if it were owing to theagency of an ill-natured fairy –You are the victim of this clumsy arrangement, having been born in leap-year, on thetwenty-ninth of February; And so, by a simple arithmetical process, you’ll easily discover,That though you’ve lived twenty-one years, yet, if we go by birthdays, you’re only fiveand a little bit over!Alas, poor Frederic the Leapling! -- bound to the merry Pirates of Penzance until his twenty-first birthday. As his birthday comes around only every four years, so does his scent!Victorian whimsy and piratical romance: a reluctant seaman’s chypre sloshed with a mix of bay rum, patchouli, amber musk, dark woods, tea rose, and red currant. THE PHOENIX This naval galleon was boarded and commandeered in 1713 on the order of Mad Bess Moriarty, along with a fat fleet of ships bearing precious oils, rare resins, and exotic spices. Once the vessels were secured, Mad Bess selected the finest, fittest galleon from the ships that they had acquired, and chose it to be her flagship. Her crew set to work knocking down the cabins, making the ship flush fore and aft, and painting her low sides were painted black, with one thin riband of orange. They prepared black colors, and set bloodshot, glaring occuli along the entirety of the hull. A new figurehead was carved in the shape of a flame-wreathed, screaming bird, and the ship was sanctified with wine, rum, and the blood of their enemies.Mounted with 52 guns, and manned with the fiercest pirates to sail the Seven Seas, she was rechristened "the Phoenix".Sea air, gunpowder, lime, salt-crusted wood, a splash of blood, and a dribble of Snake Oil.miss any?

    Miss Lupescu

bottle- O WOW! This reminds me so strongly of Ivanushka's musky furr scent! Perhaps a bit more sweet and spicy~ wet- mm mmm mm! So very much the same, a beast with a sweet center. Perhaps the almond smell folks are sniffing is similar to the furr, although there is that almond blossom. They meld so well! And while Ivanushka is a soft warm scent among the cold, this has a glowing warmth to it. Very lovely~ And so nice to have a similar Ivanushka scent GC~ the future- WER-LIBRARIAN I shall track down a bottle with my dying breath!
