  1. In the bottle: chocolate, fruit, and patchouli.

On me much, much more complex. Clove comes to the forground, and tobacco. Spicy and sweet. I'm sorry I missed a chance to pick this up in bottle form.

  2. This was extremely strong both in the imp and on me (initailly.) I am not a slatherer. In fact I only put on a little, as it was really strong just after having opened the cap.

It initially had a very strong commercial perfume scent with no notes I could pick out. After I put it on, the throw was overpowering. I could actually taste it for about 1/2 an hour.

After about 1 1/2 hours, it's settled down to smelling much like pipe smoke. Not bad, but not a favorite.

  3. In the bottle: Theres a sharp note here I can't identify. It smells kind of like straight alcohol. (I know it's not.) There's a secondary smell that's maddeningly familiar.

On me this does a very fast fade. It's barely a skin scent. Again, it's in and and out and not like anything I've ever smelt. I like it, whatever it is. Perhaps it's vetiver. It doesn't smell green. It does smell dry like the desert. This is truly a trickster. I like it and will keep my imp, but I wouldn't buy a bottle unless it comes out to play more over time. Right now there just isn't enough throw.

  4. Trust me, it gets WAYYYY better than high school.

I think if I were looking at gifts, I might try some of the foodie ones - perhaps the more complex ones like Closet Monster.

I suspect teens would like a lot of the scents with sexual names: De Sade, Lust, Sin, just for the mystique of wearing something "naughty and grown up."

*says the girl who wore only Opium during high school.*

  5. :P Soap!

This smells lovely in the bottle - green and pink, if a bit floral-ly for my taste. It smelled lovely on me for awhile and then, like oatmealneko, it started to amp. It ended up over poweringly floral soap that made me feel queasy. I had to break out the alcohol to wash it off.

I've never had anything go to soap. I want to let it age and see if time, and trying it when I'm not coming down with the flu will improve it. I really wanted to love this one.

  6. I've actually had this for awhile. Frankly, when I got it I just wasn't feeling the love. It didn't have much throw and I I could only faintly smell the fruit.

I wasn't sure what I wanted to do, so I put it away.

What a difference a month makes!

This is a whole different scent. Rich and sweet. Although the fruit has come out to play, it's not quite blackberry to me. It's darker. More black currant. I'm not really reading cake off this, but I do get a touch of chocolate. Other people have said it was like Beaver Moon, but I'm really not getting that either. It has lots of throw now.

This is really wonderful. If you've sniffed it fresh and didn't like it, give it some time to mature.

  7. I don't have kids of my own (not for a loooooong time yet) but I'm the oldest of nine kids, and most of them are still in elementary school. My six-year-old sister, who still insists that she's 'my girl,' has been coming over for the last week, saying 'make me smell like cake!'

She likes the Monster Baits, that she does. :D My youngest brother (three years) likes Closet, but the seven-year-old girl loves the Hesperides. She liked Lolita, too, but my mom won't let me share it, saying she doesn't want to have to explain things. :D

:P Yeah there are a whole lot of ones that could cause issues with names. Hmmm. For a little boy - how about Bliss? Chocolate should be good. Or any of the "dirt" ones like Penny Dreadful.

  8. I wanted to like this. I really did. I liked all the the Pumpkin Patch scents. But this smelt too rich. Too much butter, too little pumpkin. This was overpoweringly cloying. The peach was there, but it was hiding.

  9. The End of All Things: empty white musk and mint seeped with solemn lavender, doleful patchouli and vetiver, scythe-sharp yuzu and lime, with geranium bourbon, white sandalwood and calla lily.

This was extremely hard to place for me - especially since my skin eats it. Definately herbal. It also brings me one of those scent memories where you're suddenly somewhere else. This says "hotel" to me, although I don't know why.

  10. I don't have a lot to add here - definately Milk Moon-ish. However, I was one of those for whom Milk Moon had that rancid undertone. Sort of like Sour Milk Moon. And It's NOT here! So if you liked Milk Moon and were disappointed by that note as I was, give this a try.

  11. Has anyone the chance to compare The Pit & The Pendulum to Sin, Scherezade and Lust? It reminds me so much of one of those, but I don't have the imps here and I'm not sure if it is different enough to give me a reason to stock up on it as long as it's available.

Please help me find differences/similarities! I have the impression that The Pit is somehow more smooth and little less woody/more syrupy than any of the GC blends, but I definitely need some help there :P

P&tP isn't really like any of those, to my delicate noseholes, at least. It's more of a flat out resin with just a touch of a woodsy note to it. I think it's most like Midnight Mass out of any oil, I've tried. I am not sure how it compares to Cathedral, though, since it's been a while since I've tried that.

To me, Scherezade is more of a red musk/saffron cloud, and Sin & Lust are heavier on patchouli and spice notes, not very resiny, either.

Seconded - Midnight Mass. I didn't really find it smilar to Cathedral.

  12. I'm a pineapple lover too! *Sigh* There really isn't much. Some people seem to catch it from Baba Yaga and some don't.

I haven't gotten mine yet to smell, but the newest update has Shango which is supposed to have it as a note.

SHANGO -- The Master of Lightning’s ofrenda contains red apples, banana, chili pepper, coconut, pineapple, pomegranate and sugar cane.

I've been able to get some nice versions from other companies, such as Skindazzles - Hawaiian Headlock. It's not BPAL, but it will do in the meanwhile. :P

  13. If the board hadn't eaten all the reviews for this, I wouldn't be posting. I'm not nearly educated enough. But I wanted to help.

I bought this because the description reminded me of Zephyr, which I love and there are similarities. I find it more similar to Zephyr than Antique Lace which was really sweet.

I have to say I echo the "commercial perfume" quality - but I don't view that as a bad thing. There is an aquatic edge, but I do smell the amber as well. It doesn't morph much, it just fades a bit. I think what I'm smelling that reminds me of Zephyr is white musk. There also a slight green note.

I wish I were better at describing this. But I really like it. No chance I'll trade this one off!

  14. In the bottle: Fruit, floral (tuberose?) A really nice inviting scent.

    But not on me.

When I put this on it fades fairly quickly. the strongest lasting note (yes I know there isn't any - but it's what I smell) is what I associate with kind of a faded civet.

    :P

I really wanted to like this one. I love tuberose and all the other notes this is supposed to have. So far I'm one for four Lupercalia scents.
