  1. Oo, what a bizarre scent!

Damn, what is that note! It's spicy peppery but sweet...oh, I know I used to have this scent in something else....gah...d'oh, it's nutmeg!! With Lilac, maybe? Hmm...there's no nutmeg on this list, so maybe it's the thyme, sage, and salvia??

    I have no idea.

All I do know is that no me it's spicey, like nutmeg, with floral overtones. It's nice, but very strong!

  2. Wet: sweet and fruity. Oo, Watermelon Jolly Ranchers!! With the emphasis on water, as unlike Jolly Ranchers, this isn't completely, overwhelmingly, mouth puckeringly sweet. It's very light, though, a good scent for a hot and sticky summers day.

Overall drydown: hmm, something's going a bit, well, rotten? And boozy? Not unpleasantly so, it's just a hint of...overripeness, I guess you'd call it. Apart from that slight rottenness this is a nice blend.

  3. Wet: lemon handiwipes! :P I knew there was a reason this reminded me of my youth, hehe. It's a powdery lemon, though...wonder what it will change to?

Drydown: no change, although it does become sweeter. It's just like Crabtree and Evelyn's Nantucket or Briar powders. It's nice, but...no.

  4. Wet:Hmm, there's that pickle-y note again...I think I smell lilies?? Whatever it is, it's familiar.

Drydown: A wet powdery scent that reminds me of something, but I just can't put my finger on what. Licorice, maybe? It's okay, but nothing I feel the need to keep.

  5. Wet: I smell roses and apple blossom, which, oddly enough, often smells quite yeasty when first applied on my skin. There's something else in here, tough...

Drydown: Mm, it's light and sweet, quite lovely and innocent...much like Ophelia herself. Apart from the fact that she killed herself...a perfectly named scent.

Eta: just read the ingredients and am surprised to see lotus in here, rather than apple blossom. Still, it's nice!

  6. I, too, will be ordering a 10ml bottle of Bengal on the strength of a single wearing from an imp (thanks to Lady Ravenglass!). It's soft and spicy and, surprisingly, quite sweet. Honey isn't normally a scent that works on my skin, but that's exactly what Bengal is on me - spicy honey. I suspect I'll have to do some serious slathering if I want it to last, but, y'know, I'm okay with that. :P

Just wanted to add that unlike Morocco, which is the epitome of dry, Bengal is very very very creamy and luscious.

ETA 12/2/06 - Over time, Bengal becomes even creamier and, happily for me, very long lasting. Need another 10ml to ensure that I never run out...

  7. Uh, patchouli and Dragon's Blood.

Hmm. With cinnamon? Hopefully the cinnamon will kick the Dragon's butt...

Oh, DBR, I always have hope that you and my skin will get along, and once again, I am disappointed. Sometimes you work, sometimes you don't...

  8. Reminds me of smoke, which would be okay in and of itself, but unfortunately there's this plastick-y sweet odor that's veyr unpleasant on my skin. Actually, it's the smell of a fresh band-aid, and has ruined the taste of the apple I'm eating... :P

    Off to the swaps!

  9. Wet: Eee! What...in this, I don't like? There's the same note tht's in Shanghai, tea-like scent that's kind of musty-dusty...hmm, that icky lemonish scent from Shadow is showing up here, too! Hmmmm.

Drydown: quite smokey...um...frankincense is just not my friend. Oh well...

  10. Wet: Peachy. Like that hard candy, the name of which completely escapes me...or peach wine, although there isn't any wine in here...

Drydown: It's all about the peach...and nothing but the peach. Not that it's not nice, but...well. I'd rather eat a peach, y'know?

    Next!

  11. Wet: smells like an oatmeal raisin cookie!!! Hmm, yummy... There's the faintest whiff of cinnamon at the bottom of this, um, and that's about all my nose can decipher apart from, well, oatmeal.

Drydown hour: Still smells like an oatmeal cookie on me...it's very nice, foody, but not overtly so. Sorta. A very comforting scent, something that reminds me of childhood.

  12. Hokay. It's taken 5 months, but my bottles of Snake Oil, Silk Road, and Morocco are finally seeing some use and actually smell good on me. Yay! I can't believe how different Morocco and Snake Oil are now that they've had a chance to age. I guess a mere few weeks wasn't enough! Will order new bottles for next year soon.

    But.

Now that the cold weather has started, I needs me some spicy goodness now. Oils that have worked on me so far include Snake Oil, Morocco, Silk Road, Haunted, Athens, and Dracul.

And then, there are the oils that just went wrong. :P I speak of Spellbound, Rakshasa, and Sin. Anubis looks like it might be going the same way, but we're undecided as of yet. Shanghai, Imp, and Black Phoenix were okay, but there were notes to them that I didn't care for.

I guess what I'm really looking for are longlasting spicey scents with good throw. Some of the non-BPAl scents I'm wearing that are spicey are Ava's The Noir and Incense Musk. I have a big bottle of Urd, but I'm ageing at the moment...

    So, any recs?

  13. I'd hoped that aging my bottle would improve Spellbound, but alas, it hasn't happened. On my skin it turns into a soapy mess, one that dries my nose to the extreme. In fact, as I just posted, this has the same notes that are in Rakshasa, only without the orange.

    Bye bye, bottle!

  14. Ah.

Admittedly, I've only been wearing this for about 15 minutes, but dear gods, something in this has gone to soap. And whatever it is, it's the same note(s) that's in Spellbound and makes that equally unwearable.

    :P

ETA: yeah, wet, this is all bitter orange with 'stuff'. Sandalwood became predominant as it dried, then sandalwood with a hint of rose, then my nose fell off. I don't know what's gone soapy, but, it's very annoying.

Oro, glad she only bought an imp

  15. I love this violet, really, I do.

And if the vetiver would simply calm down this would be fantastic. Alas, :P it is not. In fact, on me the vetiver becomes increasingly bitter and musky, to the point where I had to wash it off...and it was still there 10 hours later.

    Off to the swaps.

    Oro :D
