  1. This is a pretty, creamy, pink/skin musk that is feminine and sweet. It turns a bit coconut on me, but the dreaded sandalwood and star jasmine don't turn soapy or to cat pee. Overall I'd say this is a very girly scent but is just not for me. I didn't get as much skin musk as I'd prefer; it comes out more pink.

  2. This lives up to its description perfectly. It is a sweet, creamy milk chocolate smell (not milk + chocolate but milk chocolate if you catch my drift) that does not turn sour or plasticky on my skin. It disappeared after about an hour or so, though. Lovely and fleeting. Made me crave chocolates, so user beware!

  3. This is a spicy sweet scent that reminds me of Tiki Queen (I think they have the same coconut note and they are both very sweet smelling) but Mlle Lilith has a bit more spice. I am amping the honey myrtle and orange blossom and the pink musk gives it a nice spicy base. This might be a little too girly for me but it is a gorgeous, cute scent for a little gal's birthday. Happy first birthday, Lilith!

  4. This scent is gorgeous. Usually I amp jasmine to cat pee high heaven, but I get nary a mention of it in my bottle. Instead, there is this pale, crystalline white musk, amber and a tiny hint of something sweet, a vanilla musk. This is an extremely well-blended floral, it is gorgeous, sophisticated and intriguing. I'm so glad I sprung for a bottle unsniffed!

  5. In the bottle I get that more sweet than normal Snake Oil note that I get from a lot of the Snake Oil blends. For two hours, I get two distinct layers, an aquatic layer and a Snake Oil layer. After that time period, this morphs into a gorgeous aquatic, salty Snake Oil. The two notes are surprisingly complimentary. I will try it again after it has settled from shipping but so far I see potential for great success!

  6. In the bottle this has a strong, sharp smell of blackberry with the faintest tinge of cat pee. I can smell the scones very faintly, it is a dry, sweet bready scent. On my skin, the scones deepen but the blackberry is still quite sharp. After some time it is a creamy, sweet bread scent but the blackberry remains that sharp, almost cat-pee note. I am going to let this settle, as it just arrived today. I have high hopes for it, as it is foodie without being too overbearing or sweet.

  7. In the bottle this smells of labdanum, black musk and a slightly soapy scent which I think is the brimstone. On my skin the gorgeous clove note comes out and amazingly, there is something that really, truly does smell of copper feathers. I don't know how to explain it but it does. The labdanum and brimstone give it a slightly metallic/smoky edge. As the day does on, the black musk is pretty strong and there's almost no clove. I am hoping that aging will make this sweeter. I'm keeping it for now.

  8. In the bottle this has a sharp scent of leaves and green peppers, very similar to the notes in A Blade of Grass. On my skin, however, it blooms into a gorgeous resinous, piney, salty mossy goodness. It is the "wooded" scent that lacks the sharpness of ones like Yggdrasil and Nocnitsa. The pine is light and warm, like sun shining through the trees and the earth and moss come across as almost sweet in an earthy way. There is the barest hint of powder, but it compliments the scent. A really unexpected win!

  9. This is a really gorgeous leather, vanilla and floral masterpiece. The leather is tough yet girly at the same time, as it is sweetened some by the vanilla and florals. I can't place what flowers are in this bouquet, but I don't think its jasmine or rose as I amp both to powdery, cat pee heaven. The smoke adds a bite on to the leather and vanilla and is just perfect. I am definitely getting a bottle for sure!

  10. Wet in bottle: Creme, molasses and red current. YUM.

Wet on skin - Molasses, cream and a hint of fruit. DELICIOUS. Foodie without being too foodie.

Dry on skin - A rich, deep molasses cream scent with the red currant peeking through. Yummy, sweet and earthy. Very little patchouli coming through, but enough to keep it interesting.

  11. Vanilla, coconut and white musk are primary in the bottle, with the hibiscus and neroli at the base. Very fruity and tropical. On my skin this becomes a little bit sharper with the ylang ylang and white musk coming to the fore with the vanilla/coconut base. After the dry-down, this has mellowed some. It was originally a little bit too tropical fruity candle, but it has morphed into this gorgeous vanilla coconut floral that is a little bit dry to keep it elegant. I can see why this was such a big winner when it came out and is hard to find now!

  12. Tangerine cream, pear and ambergris in the bottle. On skin this calms considerably, with a very pleasant pear/creamsicle combination with tonka and benzoin to keep it from being too saccharine sweet. The ambergris gives it a salty base as well, making it vaguely aquatic. This smells like a pleasant childhood outing to the aquarium... which... duh. After the dry down, the ambergris and sandalwood have really come out and the fruity/creamsicle element has hidden itself away, which is kind of sad. On the plus side, I found a sandalwood blend that works on me. I think I'll let this sit and test it a little later to see how it settles. It has potential to be really pretty and fun.

  13. Blue Moon 2007 - Gorgeous white and blue musk combine with a fresh and elegant combination of florals. The cucumber is very quiet and subdued, but it keeps this from being too fancy and lends an element of fun. It doesn't turn soapy on my skin, which is a welcome change. My only complaint is that it fades relatively quickly after 2-3 hours or so.

  14. Typically, Beth will post an announcement in the Announcements subforum. And in her announcement, she'll include a link to any forum-only special scents there are. This time, the announcement was, "Holy moly! It's an update!" and the link to forum-only scents is the same, I think, as always? (Not too sure about that as I haven't been around too long in the BPAL world.)

I joined a year ago and that link has been the same for the Forum Only scents. I think there's been around 4 or so! :)

  15. I have a lot of Sunbird. I have 2 bottles directly from the lab, 2 bottles I acquired from reputable forum members on livejournal, and 3 decants from 2 different people.

ONE of the bottles I got from a livejournal transaction is much much lighter than all the other Sunbirds. It's a light amber colour instead of the deep red/brown of the others. It smells slightly less fiery and a little less resiny. But it still smells like Sunbird.

Anyone else have any really light bottles of Sunbird? or is this weird?

I just checked mine and it's super, super dark.

  16. In the bottle this has a fruity/apple smell with a hint of sweet nuts. It has a sharp tinge similar to starfruit that disappears once applied to skin. There is a faintly alcoholic tinge to the scent in the bottle as well. On my skin it calms and bends much smoother to a pleasant apple tinged warm nutty smell. It's sweet and feminine but uniquely foody as well. Unfortunately, it is very faint and disappears quickly, after about 60 minutes or so.

  17. In the bottle this is an almond honey scent with a hint of berries and pastry. On my skin, however, it turns into this horrid sour baby powder with a cherry tinge. I suspect it is the almond that is killing me here. I can't get it off my skin and I keep getting wafts, it's really awful to my nose. Pity, because the bottle scent is lovely.
