Wet: I swear to god it's Life Saver's incense. Drying: less fruit-candy, still that strange incensy smell. So far, still not me. Dry: Slightly Pledge-like lemon with that odd incense-spice. Nope. Not me.

    Morocco

Wet: light, cassia/sandlewood and mild vanilla. Just this side of foody. Drying: strengthing a little bit. Good. I don't really do subtle. If it stays this light, I'd have to slather. The carnation spicyness comes out a bit more here. This is reaaallllly nice. Dry: The same except the mellow vanilla is abit more in the background. Stable scent, and addictive. I see why this one is compared to antique lace. Mild, mellow vanilla with lovely, also mellow spice. Pretty! And perfect for when I'm feeling less blunt. More mellow than my usual style. I'm going to need more of this!

    The Lady of Shalott

Water notes and a burning nose (ginger?). Nope! EDIT: 10 minutes later goes really bitter on me. Hoo does something in this one NOT like me! Next imp!

    Queen of Sheba

Wet: sweet almonds with a hint of spice. As advertised. Sigh. Tried this on before realizing there was almond in it. I reallly don't like almond. Just Dry: the almond has actually faded to something tolerable, yay! And the spices come slightly more to the foreground. But somehow, it winds up smelling vaguely like bubblegum. Lighter than lotus though. Dry 20min: The almond is back a bit, & in general it's faded fairly quickly. Not for me.

    Swallow's Blood

This reminds me alot of Has No Hannah. It's mostly jasmine & perfumey, and while wet, a pinch of that slightly bitter herb that HNH has, but much less. When dry, the herb that I don't like goes away. About 20 minutes dry, a pinch of dragon's blood joins the mix. I like ti better now. Not necessarily my perfume of choice, but I did some of the weight of the huge amount of stress I'm under lift from my shoulders. I suspect it will mean a better night's sleep for me. I'm sorry this is discontinued, but I have a love for the Voodoo Blends in concept. Maybe there will be something similar available form the future TAL site.

    The Hanging Gardens

Wet: sweet berries with a hint of sweet flower. Plus that sharp scent which usually means my skin will eat the fruits soon. Oh well. I had to try it, the description sounded so good. Drying: Sigh. Yes. Already half of the sweetness is eaten. Sigh. Dry a few minutes: Some pale flowers with a hint of sharp. Dry a few more minutes: mostly gone. Oh well. Fruit curse strikes again. It was really pretty in the imp.

    Sweet Clove

Wow. Strong sweet and true. It is the force of a thousand cloves but sweet. I used only a small drop (seriously didn't slather) to try this one out, but it's still one of the strongest BPAL scents I've tried to date. Very nice. And to boot, several hours later, it's still 95% as strong, and completely unchanged. Apparently my skin likes this note.

    Libertine

This is nice. I cannot for the life of me pick out any notes from it, but this is definitely pretty. IT reminds me a bit of Corazon or fenris wolf except more herby and less sweet, and definitely a lighter scent. This isn't love at first sniff, but it's definitely growing on me.

    Yog-Sothoth

This is interesting... Wet: It reminds me of Ace of Swords... Light & airy, but at the same time of men's aftershave (juniper maybe?) with a hint of light spice, like carnation not cinnamon, and as it's drying a wee hint of .. pine? Something evergreen anyway is coming out. Dry: Carnation spice is fading, leaving mostly aftershave. Still interesting but sooo not me.

    Strawberry Moon 2005

In the bottle: strawberry bubblegum with a hint of booze? Wet on me: Strawberry with a hint of something green. I guess it's the green tea, but it teminds me of the way a tomato plant smells. The green part - stem & leaves. Drying: Pretty similar to wet. Oh no. Fading FAST into that plastic doll scent I got off of snow white. If this doesn't morph further, it is SUCH a swapper. Dry a few minutes: well, the plastic has faded a bit, but it's still there. Aside from that, the strawberry note is very nice, fresh, not artifical. Dry a half hour: scent is mostly gone. My fruit curse strikes again, but at least it didn't turn this one wierd or sour on me. Well, not beyond the odd plastic snow white smell. I wouldn't be surprised if this smells like a strawbery Snow White on someone else.

    Honey Moon

In the bottle and wet: it's consistant, but not what I expected. Lightly sweet, generically perfumey, and a hint of somethign fruity -- maybe a melon. One of those watery fruits. But no real strong "honey" scent to it so far. Pretty decent throw though. Drying: a wee hint of honey is starting to come out. Sort of a honey melon. Odd. Still nothing what I expected this to sound like. Dry a few minutes: maybe that's a sniff of honey? Yes, YES! Honey is starting to come out! Oddly, it smells more of honey from further away than it does close up, where it still smells vaguely florally melon. And there something a tad bit astringent under neath. Odd. Dry a bit longer: the honey is more prominent and richer, and the other notes are more background, but that little astringent bit tickles my nose. huh. Is it possible that the little astringent bit is a green strawberry? I *know* I tried on honey moon, not strawberry, but I'm getting a strawberry impression here. Dry 45min-an hour or so: LOVE THIS NOW. Wonderful throw. I'm just sitting there watching TV, no breeze, and each breath brings me sweet honey. Not cloying at all, and not quite as rich as I'd expected, but a warm & comforting honey. (Slight undertone of watery fruit still, but slight.) Helping to soothe my heart after a tough week. How nice that this arrived on my birthday! If I sniff up close, there's still a hint of the astringent green strawberry, but I'm getting lovely wafts of this as I move around, unlike many scents which I can only find right up close. Dry about 4.5 hours: Still lovely warm honey. Finally not quite as strong but still getting random whiffs. Yay! This is absolutely lovely.

    Florence

Wet: Ack! Sharp! Sweet berries & sharp dry vertiver/cedar! (noo, it's not listed. Yes, my nose is on crack.) Dry: Still a nice sweetness, and a hint of dry icky. I think the sweetness is the iris, not berry anymore. Lovely scent. But WHAT it making that dry, bitter, vertiver/cedar scent? I guess one of those "velvet spices" disagrees bitterly with me. It's a drop of ick in the middle of the pretty! Dry later: The sweet is still there and lovely. The sharp/dry has faded some more but is still there. Sigh. I must look for other blends with Iris to try out. 'Cause I think that note at least works nicely on me. Phooey. So close, but... not.

    Santa Eularia Des Riu

A big thank you to the lab folk for this lovely frimp. At least, I don't *think* I ordered it. I might have. Okay, this is throwing my nose for a loop. Wet it keeps reminding me of Florida water, but less sweet & slightly more perfume. And differently spicey. I think it's the orange blossom + spices. I keep sniffing and my brain keeps screaming FLORIDA WATER but my nose keeps going, "ummm, no." Dry it's very similar, but the more "perfumey" note has faded. Nifty. An hour later it's mostly gone. Just a light powder with a hint of spice. Kind of like the Carnation SN drydown, but not -- maybe a smidge of lavendar? It's exactly like something else though... wish I could remember what. Overall: kind of cool.

    Carnation

Now this is an interesting scent! It starts out pure, rich carnation blossom plus a nice peppery-ness. (What can I say, I've never noticed carnation to be peppery before!) My skin quickly eats most of the carnation blossom sweetness, leaving peppery slightly green carnation stems with just a hint of blossom. Oddly it's old blossom that's been on the restaurant table for a couple of days, not fresh anymore. My skin chemistry is just bizarre. This is just fascinating. And yummy. It reminds me alot of Three Witches (I guess that'd be the pepper in there.) I must go see what blends have this oil! Add me to the ranks of those sad that it's been discontinued.

    Rose Red

In the imp: Beautiful, fresh cold, wet rose. The way it smells when you've taken it straight from the florist's fridge. Wet on me: what the hell? sort of sharp like grapefruit?!? Dry: grapefruit rose! Not at all what I expected. Dry later: The grapefruit is gone, and the rich rose is back. Not fresh & cold anymore, but still lovely and rich. Edited for later scent.

    Fenris Wolf

In the imp: ick, sharp Wet on me: Red musk (or at least something that I smell really strongly in sheherezade) plus dry wood. Drying: dry wood has dissappeared and this has become something like what I was hoping Sheherezade would be. Warm, round & a wee hint of spice (probably amber.) Still nto sure what disagreed with me in Sheherezade, but I digress. Dry: Sheherezade but a shade warmer & darker. I like this one better.

    Dirty

Wet: hmm, interesting. It reminds me of cucumber melon without being overly fruity -- I guess it's the clean linen scent. Dry: 20 minutes later, it's nearly as faint as the Vechernyaya I tried on last night. Some lingering sweetness without being the slightest bit cloying. Not very me, but nice enough. To the swap-pile, Robin!

    Vechernyaya

Gimp from the lab, (thanks labbies!) so the least I can do is review, right? In the imp: sharp, dry wood with a hint of perfume. Wet on me: Huh. Less sharp, blending nicely, still a classic department store perfume note, but light not overpowering. Drying: Huh. (it keeps surprising me.) That perfume note is becoming a bit sweeter. Poppy coming out I think. Dry: Pretty, light, subtle, a little sophisticated. But still a wee hint of MAcy's Perfume dept for me. I suspect that'll morph away in another 15 minutes or so. Dry, a half hour later: still just a hint too perfumey for me, but otherwise the same. Light & sophisticated. Overall: I'm not sure it's me, but it certainly is nice! (Me is much less subtle, much less sophisticated, much more sweet resin & cream.) I'll have to think about whether to keep or swap this one. EDIT: This is surprisingly long-lasting. 16 hours and a shower later, there's still some lingering sweetness on my wrist. I'm still not sure whether I'm keeping it or not, but I'm certainly impressed by it.

    Spooky

This is an interesting one... I didn't get half the notes in it, so will have to try it again some other time of the month, but here's how it went today: Wet: Light scent. very pale, bright mint, with a hint of that coconut-oil suntan lotion scent I noticed in black pearl, but much more subtle. Drying: Mint macaroons? Far away mint macaroons. Dry: weird. This is one of those scents that seems to get stronger & richer as it dries. It turns into a creamy, caramel scent that's definitely growing on me. Reminds me a bit of the sweet note in snake oil. (My guess is it's the vanilla.) But still, where's my cocoa? Then again, I don't get the rum either, (and I don't like boozy scents) so I guess I shouldn't complain. This is nice. Not entirely sure it's *me*, but I think it'll be a fun one to layer. And to try when my hormones aren't doing the fun "Haha! You're a GIRL" thing.

    Pink Moon 2005

FRUIT CURSE!!! A faint strawberry that's sometimes sweet, sometimes bitter. When it's sweet, it's pretty, when it's not it's not. I have GOT to stop buying blends with fruit notes. It's always dissappointing. They HATE me. EDIT: bizarrely, an hour later, this is actually richer & sweeter with the rich, round undertones that I so like. I think that's the honey. I think I'll have to find my imp of SN honey eventually and compare the two. I now have no idea if I'm 'eh' on the blend 'cause I dislike the first hour so, or if I really like it because of the strawberry-honey.

    Neo-Tokyo

This is like a very green flower, unripe, yet slightly sweet, slightly sharp, with a hint of ozone. Very nice. Not me, but very nice. As it dries a little more powder/sweetness comes out, but very little. Ah damn. 20 minutes in, my skin eats it. Were there fruits in the description...? Yes, there were. Sigh. Fruit curse strikes.

    Katharina

In the imp: sweet citrus, nice Wet on me: GAG! SWEET! TOO SWEET! The same way that Jailbait was like in the imp. Drying: Apricot with a hint of orange. Dry: Fruit curse strikes again! Nada after 3 minutes. Why do I bother with anything with a fruit note?
  23. Muppetk

    Queen of Clubs

Bottle: rich fruit & floral Wet on me: Rich red fruit with a hint of floral and boozy? and ... macaroon?? where did that last come from?? (maybe the "earth" smell that others have spoken of) Drying: Oooooh. That's starting to be interesting. Booze & macaroon are gone. The fruit is fading (as usual on me), but the pomegranate is still quite noticable and sweet, and the rose is starting to come to the foreground a bit, but there's something interesting behind it, I'm guessing the myrrh & incense? Dry 5-10 min: Sigh. My skin ate the pomegranate. But what's left is mixing nicely with the rose. Except there's a hint of bitter, I think from the currant. Dry @ 1hr: Aren't myrrh & vanilla supposed to stick around longer, even on my skin? (My skin is the evil oil-eating skin!!!) All I have at this point is a pale pale slightly sharp rose-red fruit blend. Gotta try this one again in a week, maybe today is a bad chemistry day. (Except probably not as my CT2 -- which didn't work *wah*-- is still there on me two hours later, though faded.) EDIT: melodrama removed, spelling corrected.

Chaos Theory II : The Butterfly Effect

Chaos Theory II: XXVIII (28) I could cry. Someone, many someones of you will love this one. It's a buttery Sugar Cookie. I love spicey-vanilla-y stuff, but can't stand butter. Can't stand Jack or Milk Moon 'cause of the butter. I know one of you guys will love this. I'm going to cry now. *sobs* Bottle: Buttery Sugar Cookie. Wet on me: Butter Sugar Cookie with an almost floral note in the back?? Dry on me: Buttery Sugar Cookie dominates but a bit of a sweet floral. A nifty concept. I wish I could debutter it, everything but the butter smells great. Dry 30min: or so. Well, the butter has faded at least to be a minor note that fuses the other scents together. I'm tentatitvely thinking of liking this one now. Or at least of layering Sugar Cookie with a floral blend. Dry 1 hr 30 min: Sweet & creamy at this point, reminding me of Alice, and again with that faint subtle floral in the background. Hmm. Okay, this is very nice, but will be much nicer on someone who likes the buttery note in Milk Moon & Jack. Edited for minor grammar. EDIT2: Eeeep! I guess I did a good sounding review! I've already promised to swap this out and have two other people who I promised to think of in the unlikely event that my swap falls through. I hate saying no to requests for sniffies. I feel like I've been a horrible tease now! So no one else ask me for it, please?

    Bloodlust

Wet: Dragon's blood, but less floral (Dragon's Blood by itself is usually a rich, rose-like scent) and with a hint of bitter. Drying: The bitter is gone, still a dark dragon's blood, but where's my spice? That's the whole reason I wanted this one. Dry: Ah. Finally the cinnamon! The scent is virtually the same as when wet, but with some cinnamon haunting the background. It's a much more subtle cinnamon than I was expecting. Overall: Nice, but seems to be continuing in the tradition of dark dragon's blood not working that well for me. Too bad, I had high hopes for it as I loved wrath & Mars (both dragon's blood & cinnamon blends). (Edited 'cause I can't spell.)
