Irrelevant and Disturbing Surreal Crawdad Dream

In the imp: Sharp, fruity, tea ginger currant blueberry. It's all there =o Wet on skin: Blueberry perks, the "sharp" in the first sniff is gone, and a musk presents itself. It's sweet and light. Fruity and juicy. Drying: As it dries, the fruity notes (currant, blueberry) get replaced by darker notes (musk, vanilla). Not right away of course. The pathway of drying is delicious and balanced. Fruity, moist, quirky, and beautiful. The blueberries are fresh and delicious. However, I don't really detect a green tea except when wet. I wonder if I truly know what it smells like o.O I don't know so many notes. Coriander, squash blossom. Both mysteries to me. And my family (I tried and asked but no luck). However, everyone I've had sniff has liked it (And we have hugely different likes). Everyone seems to pick out different notes, and enjoys different aspects. But this is just a stunning scent. As MORE time passes (hours and hours...) it becomes a warm lush scent (sniffing wrist, of course) of muskyness and vanilla with a light dusting of gingery spice. Overall: While I try to pick out notes to help along the review, it's honestly a perfect harmonious blend. Finding each note is difficult, fun, and unnecessary. This is a full-bodied, well rounded scent, well-blended scent. With such strange ingredients I thought it would be wacky and abstract, but actually comes together beautifully and solidly. (Although very unique, and strange, but beautiful) I'm SO glad I decided to buy this scent. It was my first bottle-buy ever, and I'm certainly not regretting it at all. I don't tend to like fruity scents as an everyday wear. I'm a patchouli or leather person. But this is just an absolutely PERFECT fruity, girly scent for me. It starts out light and silly, and ends up warm and sensual on the late-late drydown. I'm more than happy. -cuddles her bottle- Now if I had only had the guts to buy more than one bottle...

    Quirkiest, most bizarre oils

I received death cap through a trade, and the first time I tried it was a bit unimpressed. It got sort of "dusty" on me, and the scent wasn't too moving. I think my skin just ate it, though. Sort of depressing ;-; I got my Imp pack of weirdness today, and am quite happy. Miskatonic I received through a "newbie pack" scent to me, and I adore it. It's solid irish coffee, topped with toffee on me. lol I adore it though, and wear it when I'm just with myself to smell deliciousness. (Invokes too much "Who smells like caramel?" in public ) I also got a bottle of Crawdad dreams, and should note that while it's delicious, it's also bizarre. I can't tell what the heck I'm smelling. Not to mention the bottle label and description being insane I can't thank everyone who helped out enough lol

    Madrid

In imp: Grape. sweetly sickly child-hood grape flavor. Wet on skin: The tartness of mimosa comes out, and gets rid of the grape smell, for me. Drying: Mimosa + wine = tart and fruity. Add clove, which mellows it, and you have quite a unique scent. Sometimes I swear it's chocolatey (-blink-). I don't really get cherry from this, or even grape once it's dry (aside from wine notes, which is a more mature grape smell, for me). I suppose it has the sweetness both Cherry and Grape "flavors" have in childhood sweets or whatever. But the clove and mimosa make a whole unique thing. I really enjoy it. Overall: Yum. A unique scent that's sweet, tart, and candy-esq without being (on me) overly so. I love it, and will probably wear it on my more silly girly days.

    Athens

Athens is a unique scent. The most prominent note the entire time (hours) was honey. I smelled like I had smeared a honey comb over my skin. Is that good or bad? I'm still not certain. The myrrh and floral notes ended up just being a backdrop, but cozied into my skin deliciously. The wine just mixed with the honey, and made honey-wine. Which was sweet and thick. I felt decadent. I felt Greek. It was quite the experience. Overall, I don't think I could wear it often. My father is diabetic, after all. (lolz) It was just too sweet to wear daily, but perhaps when I'm in a mood that craves to smell delectable I'll grab the imp.

    Hymn

I've an uneducated nose with this scent. I don't know any of the notes, but rose. And rose is being drowned out. It smells like my grandmother though. For me, that's bad. For the scent, that just means it smells very clean, wise, sophisticated, and very very resin-y floral. I only received a dab of it in an imp through a frimp from a fellow member. Which I am slightly thankful for. It's not something I'd ever put on willingly aside to test. Nor is it something I want stinking up my BPAL box. (I'm so cruel) It has a place, and a kind of person. I'm neither. If I was to smell this on my friend Diana (a very kind christian, which I feel is true to her word and respectable, etc. As well as a very clean and pure girl.) it would fit quite well. Which means the scent nails the description, and definitely reminds me of Church. Creepy.

    Death Cap

I got this imp via a trade. Just trying out new scents, and had no real expectations. It was recommended to me as "vanilla dirt". In the imp: Very boozy, to me. Sweet but with a bite. Slightly floral. It's strange, and I'm not excited about it. Wet on skin: "Booze" scent is actually sassafras, I think. Smells like rootbeer. Hm. Also a dusty earth smell I'm not overly fond of, but with a touch of something spicy. Is that tonka? <.< Dry: Root beer. Spicy, tangy, dark and deep. Also dusty earth. Something a -touch- floral is lingering. But honestly, this floral, spicy, powdery mix is smelling a tad like baby powder to me. Good smell baby powder, but it's a tad annoying. Dry later: Root beer finally settles down to just a dark ooze of tang. The earthy scent is what glues it together, but I think I must smell dirty naturally and can't really get a unique smell from earth. Aside from dust. There's a touch of floral in it. My nose seems to avoid florals because I smell it only faintly, and my sister said "wow, flowers!" so.... I'm not sure what that's about. I actually feel like it's Tonka in this scent, and not vanilla. As it wears away, it reminds me a lot of Dee. Dee left behind this continual soft scent of spiced vanilla. Which = tonka. So I feel that's what this is. It's soothing now in it's later hours (Versus the brightness it had earlier with rootbeery-ness. lol) Overall: average throw, above average duration (too many oils go away soon. -sniffle-). Started as tart sassafras and spice, with dusty notes. Then calmed and turned into a Tonka-like soft cuddle on my skin. Remaining dark, spicey-vanilla, and delicious. But with a high note of dust I'm not found of... -crinkles nose- I just don't know if I want to keep the imp or trade it. The scent was sort of mediocre for me, and while reminds me of Dee, it just makes me want to wash this off and wear Dee instead. I prefer leather over flowers. lol But not a bad scent. -sighs- decisions.

    Tempest

In the imp: Exactly what I assumed the scent would smell like. Fresh, raw rain. That tinge of electricity (am I imagining too much?) foam off of the sea... -pictures herself on a cliff in Ireland~ Wet on skin: Whoa. Is this my mothers perfume? All scents are lost in memory... Dry on skin: Yes. This is most certainly my mother's perfume. She doesn't wear it anymore, nor do I know what it was (I'll have to ask her when I see her again). But it's something like this: Sunday, Easter morning. I'm woken up to singing down the huge stairs (as a kid.) I hear mom and dad in the bathroom rustling around (running water, showers, hot steam, etc). Mom is pretty. Very pretty. (Why so pretty for church? <.<) She has pearl earrings in. (Oh, Easter dinner tonight. Mom's dressed up.) She smells sophisticated, clean, bright, happy. She also smells like curlers, hairspray, Mary Kay, and ironing boards. Maybe starch, too. (Maybe dad in there somewhere <.<) Yep. While I can certainly picture the "tempest" vibe, the scents too easily lend themselves to my "dressed up" memories. So this scent is most -absolutely- a "Dressed up" scent. It, to me, smells clean, sophisticated, adult, innocent, but beautiful. While it isn't something I personally ~do~, I think I may have to keep some of this around at all times in case I have some outing where I feel like adorning white pearl earrings. Hell, this scent could have been called "Mom's White Pearl Earrings." Classy and classic. lol Dry, later: This scent didn't stick around on me, but I couldn't notice any morphing that was major. I could tell a few scents did leap frog with each other, but it was too compact time-wise for me to notice or be disturbed about. The throw was really strong, as well. Just didn't seem to last too long on me. Overall: I most certainly have a strange view on this scent, but I liked it. It smells crisp, fresh, with a touch of electricity. (Ozone, I suppose) ~ Clean clothes, hot showers, hot irons (for clothes, hair, whatever. lol), classic white pearl earrings, and a dash of very feminine perfume. Mom, in a vile. Strong throw, short life. (The scent, not my mom )

    Miskatonic University

Preconceptions: I was expecting a good balance between coffee and books. I actually wanted to smell like an old library. lol In the imp: Irish Coffee, spot on. I wanted to drink it... Wet on skin: Still Irish coffee. With a spot of something darker sneaking it. -sniff- Can't tell. Smells like nuts or caramel. But does it really, or am I imagining a delicious coffee? Dry on skin: Yep, Irish Coffee all the way. With very lovely throw so far. It got "nutty" for me, like nuts on the cream on your coffee... But I realize that the "nutty" smell, if I sniff and dissect it more, is actually "polished oakwood halls". The oak most be giving me a nutty smell, but with all the foodyness I think my brain is making it into food, too. It's also little dusty, as well. Just slightly, though. Enough to give it a solid feel instead of shallow coffee. I like. Dry later: Not much morphing, really. The darker notes take the stage, lighter notes get pushed to the back. This happens for me with -every- BPAL scent I've tried. Definitely how I function. But the Coffee never actually get overpowered, it's always a decent balance. As for the throw and length... Throw is rather powerful. I put it on, did some chores outside (in the summer I live on a farm) and came in and screwed around for a while. And through it all it was easy to smell myself (no stopping to sniff wrists and enjoy. I could just stand there with things in my hands and smell edible.), and I only put dabs of it on each wrist. For length.. it's only been maybe a half hour, and is starting to fade. Very sad. I still get random wafts left over from the throw (lol) but on sniffing my wrists it's very faint and dying. So, it has awesome throw but generally short life. So this may be one to carry with me to reapply dots of on occasion, versus slathering it on to make up for poor throw. Another user here said "The initial strong throw wears off quite quickly, but it doesn't morph much otherwise." <~ Exactly right. -needs to learn to be shorter with words- Overall: Nice throw, comparatively short lasting-power (a re-applier, but ok since it only takes a dot to make an impression). Seriously foody, smells like a Tim Hortons (Coffee, Caramel, Nuts, Oak seating. lol). But otherwise delicious. I got an imp from a newbie pack from the awesome Whome, and also happened to order an imp of it from the lab as well ^^' (woops for duplicates). However, I intend on using up both imps, and maybe buying a bottle if I'm not sick of it by then.

    Nuit

In imp: Something floraly damp. I kind of like it. Also jasmine, giving me that powdery smell I hate. wet on skin: Jasmine powder tones -way- down, thankfully. Left with a mixture of florals I don't know. But I kind of like it. Dry: o_o I don't know. These scents are so new to me that I keep sniffing and sniffing and wafting around wrists and at a loss because each time is faintly different. There's Jasmine. There's something damp, watery, wet. Also something slightly green but tame. I'll assume its the moss and moonflower. I'm not sure what either of those smell like on their own. There's also something sweet, but just barily. Homg, that's the Rose. Waaaaay in the background on me. Jasmine, calm down. I want more rose! -commands- More dry: Jasmine falls back, tamed to dance with rose instead. Of course, it wont ease off too much as that just wouldn't be in Jasmine's nature. But while Jasmine and rose are dancing about, musk and the incense notes start to take root and make an established base to last a while. "Her perfume is starry and crystalline, a jewel-clad and glittering paean to night:" Exactly. I could wear this daily even though it's so soft and gentle. I tend to hide my feminine side, but this is exactly how it is. Dark, deep, floral, and slightly vulnerable. Not an overwhelming floral scent, but just right. Anything more bold than this is too girly for me. Mmm. -curls up with her newfound girly scent- Amusing: Last night while I was wearing Salome and didn't want to try Nuit yet, I had my younger sister try it. On her skin, Jasmine -exploded- and overtook. It was overwhelming and disgusting. Poor sister's skin chemistry. So, when I found out what mine did, I skipped over to her to show her, and instead of being "Oh wow, how different." She said "You contaminated your oils. That isn't the same one" and proceeded on lecturing me that a shower isn't enough to rid old oils before applying new.... <.< Someone's bitter. Overall: I hate Jasmine. I just do. The powdery smell it has makes my nose twinge. I received this via a trade, just to try it out but really to make sure it was Jasmine I didn't like. (I'd have felt awful if I DID like jasmine, and avoided it because of preconceptions). Alas, it is Jasmine I hate. But, this is the most well behaved Jasmine I've ever met. She learned to share with Rose, at the least. I think the musk also tempers the "powder" into it's own muskyness. Hiding it, more. On me (skin which clings to dark notes and ignores light notes most of the time. Also amps everything musky.) this ended up being exactly like the description. I wont be buying a bottle, because I just can't tolerate Jasmine enough to wear it everyday. But I think I will use up the imp at nights when I fall asleep. It's truly soothing, feminine, and calming. How wonderful. -takes a nap-

    Oberon

Preconceptions: None. I got it as a frimp from the lovely BelleAnge. On reading the info, I was hoping maybe it would be something darkly feminine, earthy, yummy, and gender neutral. Warning: My nose has no idea what scents I'm looking for. I've never tried any of the scents in this one aside from patchouli. o.o I've seen and sniffed both Bergamont and Orchid plants, but I'm having trouble finding them in here o.o. I'm thinking this isn't the Bergamont that grows in the area, and is the common essential oil instead. -blushes- In the imp: ... nothing. I can't smell a thing. I guess something watery... -felt dumb and added to wrist- Wet on wrist: Erm. Laundry. I've learned in my short time here that descriptions like "powder" and "laundry cleaner" = uneducated nose. And yep. I've no idea what I'm sniffing. I think the white musk is making it this way, however. It's seriously amped, with a touch of floral in there. I can't sense patchouli, or juniper berries. Which I'm eager to sniff. Dry: It's not changing. It's being exactly the same. Laundry detergent isn't necessarily BAD. I had a roommate one year who adored the smell of it, and often would do my laundry for me just so she could sit down there and smell it... o.o But I'm not a huge fan. Dry, later: Same... still. The more I sniff, the more I'm able to draw out the different notes. Orchid is what's causing problems, I think. Orchid + white musk = laundry on me, I'm starting to realize. Everything else has been eclipsed, if it's there at all. How disappointing. I'll have to keep an eye out on future perfumes if it's Orchid or white musk that acts up on me (or I just find gross. Who knows o.O) Overall: I'm not sure I entirely agree with the gender neutral comments. This, to me, is entirely feminine. If a male was to wear this, they'd need to be dashing rakes. With clean features, long eye lashes, big glimmering eyes, lean builds, crisp clothing, and exotic flowers at hand to pass out to swooning women. (I get an Oberon vibe from it. He IS king of the Fae.) Not an everyman kind of scent. However, most every female could wear this and get away with it (Even if you're not a particularly feminine female like myself. You could fool those who don't know you well for a day.) So, to me, that makes this a feminine scent. I'ts not overly floral, it's not fruity. It's musky in a light way, with a touch of light patchouli giving it a green feel, and flowers gently brushing. = Laundry detergent, lmao. Maybe my laundry detergent just smells really good...

    Quirkiest, most bizarre oils

OK, so today, with the new release and all, I placed an order of imps alongside the Crawdad crazyness . It just sounded too unique to pass up :3 These are the imps I chose: Tzadikim Nistarim, Gluttony, Shango, Centzon Totochtin, Ogun, The Robotic Scarab, Jack, Miskatonic University, Masabakes, Hermia, Horreur Sympathique, Tezcatlipoca Many were listed here, and others I stumbled on and thought would be delicious. When this order gets to me, I imagine my nose will get quite a workout I also, through trades, am going to receive Death Cap (and many others) which I am quite excited about. Thanks, again, for all the awesome suggestions. Even though I didn't order all mentioned (cause eegads, how could I? lol) I'll definitely be trading and ordering some later. yays. <333

    Salomé

Preconceptions: I was really not quite sure what to expect. I'm not familiar with Jasmine, oakmoss, or Egyptian Musk. So I was eager to try out new scents. In the Imp: First thought was "soap" (Actually "OMFG that's gross girl. -flail and almost spilled the imp-"). Second sniff was serious almond, and jasmine (I suppose) giving it that soapy girly smell I avoid. I love the Almond though. Yum. Wet on skin: Almond in all it's glee. For a few seconds. Dry: I'm learning what Jasmine is, and I assume this is it. A sweet, natural sugar smell. Like a fruit, or a blossom, very ripe and delicious but natural and tempered with... plant-ness. Mixed with the Almond, causes a really delicious sensation. Once my nose gets over the "OMG BABY POWDER" reaction (I despise baby powder, and have a freak-out), I'm able to enjoy this quite a bit. Picking out that sweet sent is so delicious. More dry: Almond just sinks into Jasmine, becoming one with it and being absorbed into it. It's still there, I think. Just faintly. As time passes the musk and sandlewood take the stage and leave a lasting scent behind, with occasional freak traces left behind by the sweeter smells. I personally don't prefer this scent on me. I'm a leather and patchouli kind of girl. But, if I was to smell this on my more feminine friends I'd think they smell delicious and probe them with questions. As well as want to curl up and tell them they smell divine all day. Overall: Really a delicious scent. If you enjoy more girly smells, but are willing to try something a tad darker this may be a good first step. It is a bit "powdery" and "soapy". At one point when I forgot I was wearing it I thought I smelled baby powder, took a sniff of the air and detected Almond's, then giggled at myself for being silly. So that's something to consider if you're like me and hate powdery things. Aside from that, and the Almond being owned by Jasmine, it was really delicious and womanly. On someone very feminine and sexual (aka = Womanly ) it would be an incredible thing. A perfect balance of light and dark, I think. Grade = B. Powder-y that I'm afraid of, and Almond being owned kept it from an A. But still a lovely scent.

    Depraved

Preconceptions: from the description I wanted to smell like an earthy hippy eating apricots. In the imp: Wow. Apricots. Mm. Like Apricots that had grown overripe, fallen off the tree, and are now seeping into the soil. (Sans any bugs or insects, thankfully) Wet on skin: Patchouli is sort of... not there. It's not heady like I thought it would be. The Apricot is really the forefront for me. Apricot rolled in twigs. It doesn't really have the encompassing deepness I thought it would, it's staying rather light. Dry: I'm drooling. I love patchouli so I expected to die for this scent. I assumed it would be heavy heavy patchouli with a touch of Apricot. But this is, on me, Apricot with a touch of twiggy dirt. I'm in love. I didn't realize I loved the smell of Apricot so much. -considers putting more fruity scents in her next order of imps- More Dry: Patchouli comes to forefront more so, growing over time. Less squishy fruit, more dirt. But, the fruit is also staying with me and I get notes of Fruit over top the patchouli. It's getting that [atchouli deepness I enjoy now, and just keeps building. Apricot not vanishing though. Yay. Overall: Waving wrists, you get apricot. Sniffing wrist, you get patchouli (Twigs, raw bark, dusty dirt kind of patchouli). Chilling and watching a movie, you smell like a hippy who lives with apricots. I adore it. I also ADORE patchouli most every day, so if you dislike it, then flee. -rolls in her dirty hippyness-

Well crap. My wishlist is growing exponentially. I've even been poking around the sales/swaps to see about the more rare ones. I'm waiting for the next lunacy to place my order of imps, but I think I'll be including at least some of these in the order... just which ones? -studies reviews section-. Centzon Totochtin is just making me drool though, somehow that one is standing out to me. -edges it towards the top of her list- But it's great fun. Thanks to everyone for the suggestions so far. Ah yes, and I have tried Dee (mentioned earlier) and am wearing it right now, actually. I just adore the scent... all manly and warm and deliciously tonka leather. -purrs- I'm also not a huge fan of rootbeer scents, I guess. I tried Tombstone, and it was a blast of fun, but I think I've had my fun with sassafrass for a while. Others may get a big kick out of it, though. :3

=o I don't think I'd have found this one on my own. Looks truly unique! -adds to list- I ran across one Steamwork scent earlier, and vaguely remember thinking "Whoa". I'll revist them for sure, I had forgotten entirely o.o How amusing. I'm actually wearing Squirting Cucumber right now, and also own Nosferatu and found it unique. So your suggestions have just been validated ^^. All the suggestions so far are rather spot on. My wishlist gets bigger and bigger in my mind. I'll be doing a lot of reading in my downtime this evening in the reviews section. yay

    Squirting Cucumber

One of my first 6 imps (and 2 frimps). Added to the list because I hoped for a grassy fresh bright scent, for the non-dark days of my life. In the bottle: That's a cucumber, fred. Maybe a dash of something else I don't know hidden and compressed. Wet on skin: Snake oil contaminated my skin earlier at my wrists. (Still smells like dirty rancid baby powder when I sniff closely, showered and changed clothes too o_o) so this is at my inner elbows. Smells like the bottle, but with an even more vibrant feel. Drying: It's not really changing, which is ok. Just being cucumber. Smells like this cucumber face peel I had when I was about 12. Slightly fake, and not really like a freshly cut cucumber. But yet not grossly fake. Just, "Oh, you're cucumber scented" instead of "My god, are you part cucumber?". No grass, though. Ten minutes later: I've discovered, in these 8 imps (this is the last of my pack I've tried) that my skin turns everything musky. It finds the base tone and just devours everything else, leaving a note or two lingering. Tonka, Wines, Powdery things, whatever. In Squirting Cucumber, it's clung to that acidic face-mask cleanser smell. But, the scent is morphing. I'm making this acidic face peel smell change into a clean crisp sun-dried sheet. Apparently, that's the "musky" version of "Face peel". It's sweetening up and growing a little watery, in a good way. Ten more minutes: Yep, I was right. Much much more like a real cucumber and less like the face peel. Grassy notes are starting to float my way. It smells like a cool summer evening, munching on cucumbers while the sun sets, laying on a fresh crisp sheet on newly cut grass. There's a river or creek nearby, too. Keeping the breeze fresh and crisply delicious. I am really adoring this. This may be the scent I wear for the rest of summer. More time: It keeps turning watery. The cucumbers continuing to fade. I see that the "fresh sheet" is turning to "Wet sheet". But even so, it's delicious. We finished off the cucumbers and are laying about, enjoying the breeze. I love it. Now it's even more wearable than being cucumbery. Overall: Delicious. Although I call it face-peel smell, it's a really really mild "fake" smell. Cucumbers realistically have a faint watery smell I can't imagine capturing without using a cucumber. This hit it on the head, after a brief morphing period. But the changes are so slight, that I feel like I'm a nitpicky little girl. This was cucumber salad and glorious innocent summer evenings. A side note: My sister used it, and it vanished on her quickly. Her body highlights the high notes and eats the low notes. Cucumber was VERY cucumber on her, then simply vanished in a few hours, leaving a faint baby powder dust behind. For me, it's lasting and growing stronger. Deeper, and fuller. My skin is eating the bright notes she accentuated, and is accentuating the darker more full "summery" notes. Not powdery at all for me, which I would have hated and died if it was. I'm going way too deep. This is cucumbers! Exactly what I had hoped for. Rating: A

    Leather

I haven't tried many leather scents, but I had to poke my head in for Dee. Dee, on me, ended up being tonka and leather. Which equated into a very spicey vanilla (tonka, yay) and a soft leather couch. At one point I had said I was a hippie that just got done tussling with a british horseman. Leather was there, but more of a faint aftertouch and not overpowering. The tonka bloomed, and was delicious for me. But don't let the first sniff scare you. It smelled like sweaty, spicey man-pitt, and then took a minute or two to fade away into a vanilla glee. 6 hours after the fade, i still had a soft tonka glow about me, and a leather afterthought. Just to help out a little. ^^

    Bon Vivant

Ordered in my first set of 6 imps ever. I had high hopes for a light "girly" strawberry scent. (girly for me, at least) In the bottle: Perfection. Just what I want. strawberries, champagne (Which I adore in general), a slight tart-sweet. Wet on skin: Sort of... empty. The notes are there, but there isn't a base dark note, which I find my skin tends to cling to and draw out. I'm scared what "dark" note my skin will find to grab onto. o.o Smells good, but scared. Drying, stage one: There it is, the skin found something florally and powdery to cling to. It's not dark, exactly. But it's definately using it as a base. The strawberry notes are faint, and sort of apple-y to me. Drying, stage two: the apple is morphing to strawberries and back again. Fruity in a light, almost watery, sense. But this powder my skin found is starting to bother me. It smells like baby powder. Fresh, clean, light baby powder or laundry. I don't like it, my sister does though and keeps sniffing near me. Personal preferance here, I guess. Drying, stage three: Sister gives me a glare when I mention going to wash it off. So It's stayed on for a decent while (not over an hour, though). The strawberry has bloomed a bit, but still light and watery. I no longer think of apples and pond breezes. I do still smell dryer sheets (powdery baby powder something) and realize it smells "perfume-y". That must be the champagne. It is alcohol, afterall. and smells like a store bought spray-on because of the alcohol smell. It sort of... cloys at my nose. I hate baby powder with a passion, so I must have a biased view on this. It started smelling like my grandmother's old house (which, as a kid, I thought was because of her pitbull sparkles who mauled everything and often was found with her nose in the babypowder. And my grandmother always had a bottle of wine open. -innocent cough-). So I skip over to my father (can you tell Im staying with rents for the summer? lol) and ask him if it does. He says it smells like her shampoo, White Shoulders. So there you have it. Lasting drydown is White Shoulders shampoo. Overall: Despite how negative I sound, it's actually a very refreshing scent. I think I may try my hand at layering with it, because my sister may cry if I try to trade it. The strawberry is fresh and well, refreshing. The laundry-sent is nice, but too powdery. It needs some under current to hold it together for me. Vanilla or something spicey. It'd be a whole new scent, but maybe then I wont mind this powder. If you love baby powder (like my sister does o.o) or are completely neutral to the scent you may find this lovely. As a side note, on my sister the strawberries peaked, and the powder was only slight. My skin is, apparently, musky and makes all my scents gain a deep musk to them. I feel like I'm oozing something. lol Rating, 1-5: 3.5 ~ The strawberry and champagne notes that peak through are lovely, but the powder is too much. Has a decent throw, and on me is looking to last for a few hours at least. ps: Snake oil is also "powdery" to me and I gag on it. If snake oil is a love for you, chances are the "powder" aspect of this scent wont be a bother.

    Snake Oil

Since Snake Oil is a number one around here, I added it to my first order of imps. So, I tried it today. In the bottle: Spicey. I can't sense the vanilla. But it smells unique and deep. Wet on skin: baby powder. Dusty/smoky/cloying and attacking my nose. I hold off on inhaling my wrist for the drydown. Drying, stage one: Baby powder. There's some vanilla in there somewhere, but I think the baby powder scared it off. Drying, stage two: I'm being devoted and seeing if it will morph or have my skin absorb things. Anything. It's less "clean" baby powder, and more of a dark dirty powder. I smell like an old lady who can't ease up on the perfume. It's very very perfume-y. Smells... store bought. Vanilla is hiding, and vanilla has bloomed and danced around on me in Dee (well, it was tonka and yummyness), Tombstone, and even Bengal. So I know I can do vanilla, but not with these "exotic" spices. Drying, stage three: I'm not sure. I'd already dashed to the bathroom to wash it off. It just assaulted my nose and sort of... hurt. Overall: OMG it wont wash off. I'm doomed to smell eternally like baby powder. -flails, finally finds a soap that wipes it out, faints with relief- I'm not sure how this smells so good to be a top. I tried it on my sister, but she hasn't bathed since I tried tombstone on her (and didnt tell me), so she still smells like root beer and it was just completely bizarre with snake oil. So she's no help. Snake oil does have a great throw, and a long life. You could probably go swimming with it on, and come out smelling like the oil. So if you love the scent, this would be a dream scent. I, sadly, don't. I don't know. They say to wait for it to age... but why should I wait when there are hundreds more scents waiting to be explored? I think Snake Oil will be sent off to trades here soon for me. Maybe at a later date I'll try this "aged" version, but I have serious doubts. Rating (1-5, 5 best): 1. Sorry snake oil.

Gah! I wish I had the money to buy so many. I'm hooked as well, but on a rather tiny christmas money / birthday leftover money budget. lol Also new with the scents and enjoyed reading your last blog. You made Kali sound so delicious, I may need to read reviews on it.I'm looking to get Miskatonic University as well in the next batch, sounds promising. I just wish I could afford the whole Chakra set of imps to try

    Nosferatu

Nosferatu was a scent that when I read reviews, I fell in love and wanted it to work on me so well. In bottle: Wine, airy, watery, sort of a fresh scent. "as dry as a breath drawn within a long forgotten crypt" - this is right now certianly a breath. But a breath from the breeze itself, slightly magical and ancient. Wet, On skin: Same as bottle, but added a darker earth tone. As if the magical breeze on touching my skin has become alive. Nosferatu lives through me. Drying: The airy and wateryness sort of step back, merging with the wine and becoming more solid. The herbs show themselves with a tangy sweetness. Earth is present. Dry, after a bit: My skin eats light notes and leaves behind dark deep musty notes. In Nosferatu, it is devouring the tang of the herbs, and leaving behind the sanguine wine and earth notes. Using the Earth tones to add my musk into. It works out well. Emotions: I feel not like a cliche mindless dead vampire. There's no blood, no decay, no dusty gross old. It's the smell of a women freshly rising for her nightly routine. Powerful, fully expecting a royal court to come at her call. It's sophisticated, deadly, dark, but yet light in a breezy and womanly way. As it dries and time passes, the earth gets mustier and gains a bit of grit, the wine starts to vanish moreso, but only via the bright tones. Wine is still present inside the dirt, but with the grit as well. Lasting?: Previously I had reviewed this after putting it on quickly and running off for a family trip to the zoo. I didn't get to appreciate it like I wanted. However, about 9 hours after applying it I was at the zoo, sweaty and miserable, and caught a waft of wine. Nosferatu was more or less reactivated by my sweat, and what perfect timing. Everyone with me was sweaty and disgusting. I was sweaty and powerfully seductive. Though I lacked any decent targets. The giraffes weren't impressed. Overall: This is a dark scent, with light wine, almost floraly (in a dark deep rose sense, faint but just almost) notes on occasion that peak and tantalize. It's very regal and royal, and was very feminine on me. But, having spilt it on my desk I can see what happens when applied to cheap maple. It goes the opposite way: More wine, more tang of herbs, and earth becomes a background scent. So changes are some people will have a more tangy experience with it, as light notes vanish on me. I also think on a male this could smell divine. while the wine turned slighty rosey and darkly feminine on me, on a male I could see it adding just a touch of romance to their impression. Not anything like Dee, where a man would be solid very potent male. But a very sensative and cunning, feminine, vampire-y male. Ugh, that shall be the test for my next boyfriend. Do they smell good in Nosferatu? If they do, it may just be a forever keeper. lol Rating: A last thought: Delicious. I ramble, but I loved this wine note. I'll have to find more. edit: Re-applied and re-reviewed because the first time was so shaky. This is now the more updated version

    Nocnitsa

I received this as a frimp from my very first order of 6 imps. I read the description, and fell in love. I was searching, actually, for fresh wet dirt smells and this looked to be -just- the one. Yay! In the bottle: High hopes soar. It's green, lush, and smells like spring. Wet on skin: Dirt. Wet forest dirt. Moss, I assume. And that "nighttime air." I inhaled and loved it. Drying, stage one: Fir. Fir fir fir. And dirt. A dash of "air" left, keeping it light but yet darkly delicious. Different, no longer spring. But I could get used to this. Drying, stage two: Gag me. What happened? Fir just kept building and building. The dirt smell turned into musk. A deep, sexy, sensuous lovely lust. With fir, turning into this bright fresh scent of lovelieness as well. Together? A cloud of toxic fumes never meant to touch. I wait, maybe they'll blend. Drying, stage three: I can't bear it anymore. I find myself dashing to the sink and my sister squealing that she "loved the fir tones, what happened?". I'm not sure what happened. The two scents didn't mesh. They both developed awkwardly on my skin and may have been ok on their own, but together become a monster. I can pick out many of the scents: Dirt, moss, airy something, fir. But the fir becomes acidic, the dirt becomes MUCH too musky, and the moss is doing the polka on air's deathbed. Or, I ran through the perfume isle in sears and was attacked with every old-lady scent they had in stock. I was overwhelming, decaying, mossy but lime moss... It was bizzare and hurt, making me dizzy and not at all pleasing to me. ;-; My hopes were dashed. -wail- Overall: I smelled like an ancient decaying tree. With limes thrown on top. Sadly, this scent failed horribly on me, and assaulted my nose enough I felt overwhelmed and -had- to get it off.. I think I may try again at another date in the future (unless I venture into trades and get stolen away), but this was a failure on my skin I guess. My sister will be trying it tomorrow, as our skin types appear to be dramatically different. I want to smell this scent in a delicious manner. Maybe it will bloom on her, and not decay and rot off. ps: I never noticed berries, or anything sweeter than a lime.

    Tombstone

Well, this is one of my first 6 (well 8, counting the frimps) imps I received from the lab. For me, I was about the same as everyone else. For my sister: Completely different (mentioned at end of review) In the bottle: Rootbeer. (Which is what sassafras is most widely used for. Silly people not knowing what it is ) Wet on skin: For a few quick seconds it was nothing but solid dust. Like I had to bunker down for a mini dust bowl. It was only a wiff for me, and then vanished as quick as it came. Drying, stage one: Dust vanishes, sassafras screams with me. I think the Balsam helps give it an extra kick. Vanilla and Cedar and lying low and being lazy. Dry, stage two: Vanilla is oozing over me. Delicious and warm. Slightly spiced from the Sassafras, which is there but so faint I have to eat my wrist to get it. The cedar is strong, second only to vanilla, in a woody way, not a fresh cedar chest way. Vanilla is overtaking, everything else becoming background. It's soft, delicious, and somehow a bit musky on me. Dry, stage three: Vanilla and Cedar have merged into a neo-vanilla of deliciousness. The Sassafras and Balsam seemed to have become a neo-rootbeer as well. And now they're in an epic battle on my skin. Mostly it's soft, like a hazy bar room during the prohibition years (no booze... lol). But then I'll shift around and get a giant wiff of nothing but tangy rootbeer, harassing my nose in a pleasing, and shoking way. It IS a bit foody, now. And I want to eat myself... these BPAL scents are becoming dangerous. Overall, for me: I've tried Dee and Bengal in the past few days, both ending with vanilla overtaking and becoming a musky delicious sleep-aid. Which is strange. I'm new to scents on me, so it seems either everything turns to musk on me, or vanilla just sits and brews on me. Delicious, but becoming slightly limiting. In Tombstone's case, the vanilla is overtaking and being strong (with it's new merged-cedar state), but it hasn't gotten rid of the spice. It's still there, but faint and wafting through with a punch every so often. I'm rather fond of it. However, on a different note, I had my sister apply this at the same time to see and compare skin chemistry (I got her interested, yay!) and my sister is going a completely different direction. The sassafras has literally EXPLODED on her. With me, It's a cedar room painted with vanilla, and maybe an open rootbeer somewhere in the room. For her it's a bottle of vanilla root beer. It's light, tangy, with just the slightest undercurrent of cedar/dustyness. The sassafras has completely OWNED my sister. I want to lick her, she smells like a root beer Popsicle to me. She loves it, but I'd hate that smell on me. It matches her personality: Light, bouncy, happy, in love with smiling food stickers. It's kind of creepy. While I'm a much more grounded, dark, in love with night and the moon sort of person. So I'm weirded out. There didn't seem to be many reviews that mentioned the sassafras owning the scent. I felt it was important to mention the possibility. The dark tones seem to mostly vanish on her skin, leaving lighter bright tones. I didn't think it was possible o.O

    Dee

Dee is my first ever BPAL scent I've tried. I just got it in the mail today, and was looking forward to it. What I expected: I really was looking forward to a musky library smell. Leather and paper. In the bottle: My sister said it best: "It smells like sweaty man-pit." It was man, overwhelmingly so. I coughed a little, lol. Wet on skin: I smelled like I just got done having a very sensual tumble with a sweaty brit. Not a bad smell, but wow it's strong. Dry down, stage one: Oh thank you, man-pit has gone away. I now only smell a sensual, dark collection of leather and tonka. Sadly, I don't know what rosewood smells like, so I'm unable to pick that out of the mix. But, I'm sure it's in there somewhere. My mother made a comment about me smelling like rosewood. (after saying I smelled like a man, of course) Also my sister said "You smell like a hippie." And I must admit, I would certainly fit in at the yellow springs street fair (local hippie town here in Ohio). Dry down, stage two: My skin is eating whatever causes the man-scent. Now, Just soft gentle notes of leather, faint but there and soothing. The tonka is delicious. Overall, it smells like a leather strip soaked in spice vanilla, and now drying out. (Why leather was soaked in vanilla and spices, I'll never know.) I think the soft leather smell reminds my sister of hippies, somehow. Dry down, stage three: I fell asleep with my wrist to my nose (long day, took a lovely nap after reading a chapter of a romance novel) in the soothing tones. But when I awoke about an hour or two later, I just had a soft dusting of tonka. There is a touch of something darker and muskier left behind, but it's faint and still fading. Time to wash off my wrists and try one of my new scents. Overall:This is beautiful. It does have a masculine smell, especially at first, but I found as it blended with my skin it softened out to a very feminine (in the earthy-hippie sort of way) scent and made me so very very cozy. Perfect for wintery days inside. I love it. I almost passed out sniffing, I think. I should note that I'm not a feminine girl though, in personality. I'm a bandanna and dirty jeans in the garden kind of girl. So "feminine" to me is not girly. It's very adult, womanly, and earthy (In my head.) So you should keep that in mind. lol Dee has a decent throw. I'm clumsy when I open my imps, and I only used the tiny spillage that fell on my finger and dabbed it on both wrists. It was plenty. My imp should last a long while. And I caught wafts of it throughout the day (I think it took 5-6 hours for it to fade to a dusting, and even then it may have gone on longer). This was my first scent, so I'll wait to test out other scents before deciding how wonderful it is. But right now, I'm in love with it. Next time I get myself a significant other, I'll be begging him to wear it. But I have a feeling on a man, it would accentuate that musky "man-pit" in a delicious way. So at the end: I smelled like a hippie who had earlier done the nasty with a British horseman. Or, soft vanilla (tonka :3) with something slightly incensed and leather delicately brushing. The description for the scent is quite perfect.
