The Bow & Crown of Conquest

In my most recent testings of new imps, I've stopped being an over-the-top critic and just sort of decided if I like them or not, lol. The VERY first imp from BPAL I ever tried was Dee. Bow & Crown of Conquest is, to me, the female equivalent to Dee. Dee is masculine, a lot. It has a lovely man-pit smell I was weary of trying Bow&Crown because of all the floral/herbal notes. Sage, Carnation, lavender? I dislike florals strongly, so put off trying this despite everyone saying that if I loved Dee, I'd love this. Finally I caved and gave it a try. It's absolutely gorgeous. It's my new favorite scent. It's the same delicious Leather in dee. While dee has rosewood and leather, Bow has cedar and leather. Giving it a similar earthy(that wood scent. I fail at describing it. lol) gorgeous base, but instead of having more masculine notes it's softened by the white musk and herbal notes. However, they just soften it and don't overwhelm. They stayed in a lovely balance for me. Of course, Vanilla is a strong contender as well, and delicious. (similar to Dee which has tonka, a spicy vanilla). Vanilla has shown it has a tendency to go sour and bitter on my skin, and so it was another reason I was weary, but in this blend it acted more like Tonka. That is, it was a slow bloomer on my skin but once it bloomed, it settled in perfectly and lasted for hours in a mellow but slightly tangy glow. If you were like me, and weary of the floral notes, don't be. This is one of the most perfect leather blends. It's completely wearable on a daily basis, and also very gender neutral. (Only the feminine version of Dee, because Dee is so overtly masculine. Although it can be pulled off by women too) - This scent is gorgeous and sexy on women, and gorgeous and sexy on men. This review is hardly helpful, lol. But I'm in love. I'll be begging for a bottle or two of this comes Christmas. It has excellent throw - that is not too overwhelming, but not underwhelming either. Just a swipe of the tester and I'm set for the day. It lasted well on me (leather always has a lingering scent for me anyways) and when I worked out, the heat/sweat made it re-bloom. How gorgeous and relaxing while in the midst of stress. A win, now I see why everyone pushed me in this scents direction when I mention liking leather. <3

    Caliban

I wore Caliban today, and completely forgot what it was suppose to smell like. (And obviously unfamiliar with the character) In the imp: Evergreen. Like fir, or pine. On re-reading the info, must be ferns. Or palm? What's palm smell like? Silly me On skin: It was more feminine than I had anticipated. The "aquatic" is bordering on Ozone. I dislike ozone, however I like this. The green from the ferns or palms keeps it from getting metallic or electric-y. I found I kept sniffing myself, and loving it. While sitting and idly watching TV and folding laundry, I swore I smelled a wine note similar to other BPAL wine notes I've ran across. I sniffed my wrist, nothing. Sniffed again, wafted wrists around, and voila! There is was. A high note only sniffed by that silly waving of wrists. lol. It's hiding in there, but I found it. Then I sat down and read the notes, and went "Ooooh.". My bad ^^' I think I'll be retesting it, but so far it seems the "aquatic" is a tad too light and happy for me. I was hoping for more depth and darkness that I enjoy so much. But it came across as a bit perfumey (I keep saying that, and feel silly. I am buying PERFUME after all... but meh.) and a bit too feminine for my everyday loves. But it was certainly pleasant to sniff, for me. Final notes: It had ok throw (could smell it while doing laundry, and not non-stop wrist sniffing). But didn't last so well. The aquatic note was a tad too powerful, I'd have liked more wine. But it was pleasant even though it was feminine.

    Katharina

Hm, I'm curious I suppose. Compared to other reviews, things were a little more different to me. :/ In the imp: Gross girl was all I thought. Just floral out the wazoo. No sweet apricot or anything. I was scared. Wet on skin: Apricot bloomed instantly. With the musk it's just gorgeous. Sweet, full, well rounded, feminine. The orange blossom is freaking me out though. Dry: I despise florals. I keep trying them despite knowing this though... weird. But the orange blossom is a very muted floral. Not horrible and overwhelming, but still beautiful. White musk is hardcore female, I can spot it from a mile away. But it's really beautiful. I'm a HUGE fan of apricot scents so far, and this is promising. It's a freshly picked, floral-encased, innocent female in a field with a white gown sort of apricot. It's lovely, while not exactly my style. The throw is lovely, farther than most essential oils, and after a few hours it was still sticking around, though less amazing. It's perfumey, but only just barely. More soapy, but that after-shower smell of soap. When you washed, rinsed, got out, in a towel, and prance around the house half naked trying to find clothes, finally do and return to the bathroom.... that lingering after-shower scent. With apricot body scrub. hehe So, I think in the end I'll keep it to wear it when I'm feeling shockingly feminine and don't feel like Dee. Overall: Smells clean. Like this body wash I had when I was about 11, and as innocent as all possible. It's a really light, fun, easy, breezy, flower child dancing sort of scent. Yum.

    The Apothecary

I got this as a whim in a swap trade. I figured it was worth a try, and didn't list any notes I really despise (florals, for one. Though I was weary if it may border it.) In the imp: I woke up, and after all my morning routine I sat down and tried on a new imp. This woke me right up! So refreshing. Screw coffee, I'm going to sniff The Apothecary in the mornings. Lemon zest, mint, it's just beautiful. I imagine there's lemongrass in this. Wet on skin: Less zest than the imp (that's how it always seems to go) but still gorgeous and beautiful. Like I was cutting up lemons for a nice refreshing beer later. (thats right.) Dry on skin: As it wears, it's threatening to get a little soapy. But even if it does get soapy, I'll still love it. It'll be some of the best smelling soap ever. In fact, I'm contemplating making it into soap... lol the lemon is the most prominent, but I think that's because this minty hint I'm also getting helps lemon along. There is a sweetness to it as well that softens the lemon from being pledge, which I'll credit to the fig. It's also very green, but not in a twiggy way. In a fresh-cut grass kind of way. This is a PERFECT summer scent, and as the days get muggier and muggier this week in Ohio. I couldn't have asked for a better time to get this imp. I'm not detecting Tea, but I think it's blending with moss and grass to just make an overall green smell. I get ginger, which is probably spicing up the herbal notes to lemon-proportions. I also get fig, which is sweetening the mix. Yum. My sister also adores lighter scents like this, so I may have to snatch a bottle and decant a few imps for her as well. Hmm, maybe just multiple bottles. Overall: Yum. Juicy, tangy, fresh, slightly sweet, summer-green. This is lemonade on the porch at midday in the summer with a crispy chill breeze sliding past to revive you. It's love. Has moderate throw, and lasting power leaves a little to be desired. It starts to get more and more soapy as it ages, so re-applications may be required. Love this stuff.

    Sloth

This is my first encounter on my journey with Vetiver. And Myrrh. In imp: "yuck, what is this?" I actually withdrew from the imp because of the sharp sting. Wet on skin: Imp smell, no real change. That vetiver sure is unique. So is myrrh. which is which? o.o I dunno, bad idea for me. Dry on skin: "What, it dried?" Same as before, no changes. One of the notes is sharp and tangy, the other is an almost sweet woodsy scent. It's strange. I don't find it very delicious. muuuch later: It got sweeter after a few many hours. Almost like vanilla, in that sweetish but tangy way. It's truly weird to me. o.o My sister said it smelled like a wet basement. Mildew is about right. I thought sloth would be a more soothing, relaxing, luxurious scent. But I suppose this makes sense too. Old and decrepit. Yuck. Unique experience, I recommend getting a wiff of this. But not bottle worthy for me. Has perfect throw. Strong, but not too far so people smell you before they see you. It has a decent lasting power too. I cooked (ugh, cooking with perfume on is sort of gross <.<) and washed my hands and some dishes, and it lasted through it all. Now to figure out which is myrrh and which is vetiver to my nose. Off to find them seperate from each other in another scent

    Horreur Sympathique

Imp: Wet, Juicy, tart. Not sweet, but like a very dry, twiggy wine. Wet on skin: Juicy explosion for a second, with musk/honey popping like fireworks. Dry: For a moment it got too powdery floral for me, but then quickly was tamed by something else. This is a gorgeous blend, like most other reviews have said. It fits the description perfectly. It's dark, red/purple like blood. It's sweet and it's also brooding. All the fruit notes: wine, champagne grapes, plum really make it juicy and sweet. They work together beautifully and smoothly. I've never had the tobacco note before, nor am I skilled enough to determine the oakmoss. I also don't know what opoponax smells like. However, something here is green and plant like. It gives the fruity notes a backbone in reality. Like walking through a vineyard or picking berries. Then the carnation (the only floral I spot) I could live without. But it does seem to lighten the blend, and give it a faint perfumey air. That's the only real negative of it, and I despise florals. But this one is behaving well. Blood musk is delicious, I'm learning I LOVE musks. I need to start figuring out the difference between all of Beth's musks . But it isn't the main thing, it's just a background scenery thing. Also, I adore tonka. It always clings to my skin, and stays for hours after the rest of the scents have vanished. So do florals, and leather. In this case, I was left with Tonka and Carnation, it seems. But it was the spiciest, most delicious carnation I've ever come across. I think Opoponax (my sister tells me it's resinous, so I think it's here) may also have stayed and kept carnations floral from becoming powdery. Apparently, floral powder + incense = beautiful. This is like what I imagine blood smells and tastes like to a Vampire. It's wet, juicy, ripe, gritty, real, earthy and human. If this thing had more throw I'd make it my fav scent ever. However this may be a perfect everyday scent. So I'm not overwhelming to peers, but I can still smell good to myself and anyone who gets too close. Imp keeper, at least. Possible bottle asking for a birthday or Yule.

    Tezcatlipoca

In imp : Delicious. I want to run away with it. Wet on skin: Something sharp attacks me. Leather, I suppose. Some reason leather notes have been going sour on me ;-;. After my affair with Dee, I thought all leather would adore me... it doesn't seem to be so. Either the leather note hates me, or leather + 'ritual flowers' or cocoa isn't good. Drying: Really a strange sent, to me. The cocoa and patchouli is interesting, and a bit delicious. But there's a dustyness to it I think cause by the ritual flowers. That darned floral effect. Powdery would be too light of a word, this is just dusty. Dusty leather dipped in some amazing patchouli cocoa. And not chocolate, there's nothing sweet about this. It's just solid bakers chocolate. The sharp thing finally starts to fade. It's almost metallic, ozone-y or something. I'm not a fan. Now the leather is starting to mellow and come out moreso. Yay, I was scared leather was done with me. but this is that delicious leather I've come to adore. But still dusty cocoa and flowers :/. later: It gets even more floral, on top of leather and cocoa. The patchouli is understated (Sadly) and it gets a cologne-y/perfume-y air to it that I'm not found of. Overall: The scent just didn't quite gel for me. I had tested it before, and was content enough, but this second testing is not pleasant. It's beautiful in the imp, but not something I would put on in the morning, or evening. It's just sort of ... weird. I think it disturbs me most because each scent is s distinct, and they don't meld into a beautiful oneness for me like so many other BPALs do. So it'll be traded off for me to try something new It has average essential oil throw, and a decent longevity thanks to the leather.

    Refreshing *and* relaxing?

I haven't tried most of what's been suggested :/ But, the first thing that came to mind was Irrelevant and Surreal Crawdad Dream. I'm in love with the stuff ^^'. But it's fruity, so fresh. Yet it's somehow dark and deep, which I find is relaxing. Course it's an LE, and all. But I sat down and really tried to think of other scents that may work. Some of these may not be light enough, but I find them somewhat clean (so fresh, and sort of summery) while also full and dark so they're relaxing and all. Ogun - The evergreen (whichever it is, I forget right now ) is wet and fresh, and to me is the next best thing to citrus. But it's soothing, and not invigorating. Tzadikim Nistarim - This is a bizarre smell, it may keep you up with weirdness... but it's fresh to me, but not overly. Not as dark as Ogun or Crawdad either. Maybe Nosferatu? - it's winey, which is fruity, and to me fruity is bright and light. But it's also dirt () and so it's tempered from being too bright. Nuit - If you're Jasmine friendly (which I'm not) Nuit is a very wet, cool, soothing night scent. It would be the -perfect- scent for sleeping if I could tolerate Jasmine And because I adore it, I'm going to also suggest Depraved. The patchouli has a bite, which is soothing and light at the same time. And the apricot is so delicious that it both makes you want to fall into a daze sniffing it, but also isn't heavy or anything. Summer friendly, I think. The only one suggested that I've tried is squirting cucumbers, and I personally think it's too sparkly (I lack a better word) for bed. I'm probably not much help ^^'. But maybe instead of Citrus, you should look towards Fruity. Blueberry, Current, apricot... they're all refreshing but not normally overwhelmingly sweet and annoying. Also lend themselves to soothing well. Good luck finding the right one
  10. Shango didnt work on me at all the first time I tried it, but maybe it was too old/new? What do you think? Bummer =o. I love shango, but for my sister it turned into nasty syrup. May just be a skin chemistry issue, there :/ I agree. I use Squirting Cucumber as my summer scent. It's really light and fun, like a salad. It's unique, but not an everyday thing for my personality. (I've yet to try strangler Fig) This isn't exactly the same, but maybe Irrelevant and Disturbing Surreal Crawdad Dream would work? It's very dark, and heavy in a sense, but the blueberry note just makes it so -juicy- and I can't stop wearing it this summer. Another scent I find myself slathering is Depraved. It's the greenest, rawest patchouli I've ever come across with the juiciest, stickiest apricot. It's just heaven on these muggy summer days. You have to like patchouli though. Good luck with the wishlist

    Hand of Glory

imp - Smooth, creamy, something tangy. Wet on skin - Medicinal, sharp, pungent. Drying - leather & medicinal. + spices. It's making me feel a little nauseous. Making me feel how I do when I get carsick o.o. Like I'm dizzy and overwhelmed. Too much variation, I think. More dry- The medicinal sharpness eases up a tad, or I get use to it. The leather is a really sharp biting leather note. I like the pepper, though. I can also sense the beeswax giving it a sort of creamy feel. I'm going to blame the saltpeter for making me feel crappy. But it got overtaken as the deeper notes start to unveil themselves and soothe this out into a mellow but spicey, warm blend. Nutmeg is soft on me, complimenting pepper. Saltpeter seemed to have taken a chill pill. Beeswax is an unoffensive scent to me, really mellow. As more time goes, the sandalwood and oak bark seem to replace leather as the backbone of the scent. Making it a really deep and full incensey (good way) and complete scent. Overall: Don't sniff for maybe 5 minutes, then relax and enjoy the drydown of curiousity. I just can't decide if it's worth keeping or getting more of if the first few moments make me ill o.o

    Oya

I read the other reviews, and my Oya is not like most listed here. My impressions of Oya: Leather. Incense. Xena Warrior Princess, minus the cheesyness. Unisex. Spicey but tempered. Musky, sweaty, sexy love. Note I didn't notice (doesn't mean they aren't there, I suppose): Cherry. I didn't get anything that sweet or noticable. Maybe something in the background? maybe?... I doubt it. Ozone: No such luck. Almond: could be. I also think Almond could be blending/overtaking/mistook for Ozone. Compared to other scents with the ozone note, this lacks that metallic bite. Jasmine: No. I despise florals, Jasmine my Arch Nemesis. If it's in here, it's not doing anything on my skin (thank god?). Plum: Says it has plum... maybe it does. But if it is, It's a dark, earthy, non-sweet plum. The other reviews make this scent sound sweet, juicy, berry yum. For me this is solid incense and a leather feel. Like a warriors attire. Maybe she took a bath in something girly before she put on her armor and started killing people. I don't think so, though. Overall: Sex, musk, bood stained & plum stained leather, incense. Unisex, leaning towards a masculine female. It didn't morph on me. It was slightly sweeter in the imp. It has a rather nice throw (not too much, not too little) and seems to last a while on my skin.

    The smell of night

I love the actual smell of night, personally. And will have to consider this thread before I get more imps.... But I've only tried one scent that made me think of night. It doesn't exactly smell like night, but it reminds me of night. Nuit Her perfume is starry and crystalline, a jewel-clad and glittering paean to night: dazzling white musks, white rose and night-blooming jasmine with the soft moss of moonlit meadows, a waft of Egyptian incense, and a gentle breath of moonflower. You have to like florals, which I didn't ^^'. But it's still very much a night scent, a lot of reviews mention using it as a sleeping scent.

What are the best oils for arousing one's own sexual desire?

I must admit, a drop of Dee on a guy, and I'm all over him. It has a certain "man musk" quality to it that drives me nuts. Dee His scent is soft English leather, rosewood and tonka with a hint of incense, parchment and soft woods. I also found that Bengal is a sexy scent, for me. It's neither for me or him, but just an overall thing. I should try it in a diffuser or oil burner or something... yum. -plots now- Bengal A sultry and unruly blend that emulates the ambient scent of the markets in ancient Bengal: skin musk with honey, peppers, clove, cinnamon bark and ginger. A lot of the scents I've heard elsewhere as "Sex" scents aren't appealing to me. I despise perfumey scents, and florals are not my friend. I also hated Snake Oil. Just to give a small summary of my tastes I haven't explored too much into more sexual scents yet, but so far that's what I've come up with. Hope you two get a fire raging again .

    Quirkiest, most bizarre oils

Ooo! What do you think of Centzon Totochtin? I hope you love it! I absolutely adore it! It's chocolate heaven, for me. Becoming one of my favs. I think this should be a regular offering from the Lab - you should just be able to ask for an Imp Pack of Weirdness and they'd send you a random selection of 6 of the most bizarre scents that are currently in the GC. that would be very amusing. And save me all this trouble. lol I figured since I made this post I should comment on the scents I got . Tzadikim Nistarim - I actually got this more for the story than the notes or strangeness. But I really enjoy it. It keeps me sniffing and trying to figure out -what- it is. Unique. Gluttony - I was kind of sad. It was a -lot- like the drydown of Miskatonic on me :/ Shango - Beautiful. Fruity and tangy. As an extra perk, it smells like poo on my sister so she wont be stealing it from me. Centzon Totochtin - Delicious. Nuff said. Ogun - I surprised myself. I like this. It's a bit manly, but not too much. Very woodsy and now dubbed my new hiking scent. lol The Robotic Scarab - Reminded me of Tempest, but the male version. I wasn't a huge fan, but it'd be yummy on a dorky guy Jack - Huge throw, and definitely one of those scene-making scents. Autumn in a bottle. Masabakes - Truly strange. I have a hard time even figuring out if I like it or not, and it's getting more wears than my favorite oils as I try to figure it out! lol Hermia - I've learned I hate florals. But I still admit the pink pepper in this makes it unique and beautiful. Thas all for now. I'm still using this thread for advice and to keep tracks of imps to swap/buy when I have chances. ^^

    Shrunken Heads

Leather tanned with the pulp of Amazon ferns and rainforest herbs. In imp: Really... tropical to me. Wet, green, almost fruity. I love it. Wet on skin: About the same as the imp, but the leather notes start to perk. It's wet leather. raw leather, fresh. I really love it. The green of amazon is making it wild and unique Dry: Leather perks up. There's something similar to both Tempest and Robotic Scarab (random, I know.) Metallic? So wet it has that sheen? I'm not sure. Robotic Scarab has a leather note, but Tempest? o.o weird mind. Drier: I think I've figured it out. Tempest, to me = what my mom smelled like on sunday mornings. Shrunken heads = what my dad smelled like. Aftershave, over-steamed bathrooms, and some kind of leathery cologne. I admit, if I were to smell this on a passing male I'd drool for a few seconds. (Nothing like Dee, though) but then it would slip my mind. As it gets drier the leather gets drier. The herbs are certainly there for me, adding an edge to the leather and keeping a primal, wild feel to it. Exotic in a bug-bit way (versus cleopatra way). It's nice, but not nice enough to wear often. It's unique to me. Very "perfumey" and not my fav kind of scent. (I know, it's a perfume, what do I expect? lol). Overall wrapup: Leather, man, musky bug-bitten exploits. Shrunken heads, on the dot.

    Hermia

I tried Hermia on a whim, to see if -maybe- I could get along with Florals, and to learn more about amber. (training my wee nose) In imp: Spicy sweet, and a very curious thing. Wet on skin: Wow, spicey yum. If it stays like this I'll be in heaven. This pink pepper is zesty and fun . Drying: The zest hangs around, meshing with I suppose Honeysuckle? Amber? I'm clueless. It's sweet, zesty, and oh is that passion flower coming to give it a full, round feel? It is. How pleasant. Dry, 20 minutesish in: Passion flower and I don't like each other. I smell VERY floral, and while there's tangy-ness underneath it I just dislike florals. So much for trying to prove I could enjoy them <.<. Passion flower BURST out off my skin and is now -the- scent of the hour. bleh. More, more dry: Passionflower calms down, or my nose gets use to it, but it's still overwhelming for me. The pepper is there in the background, as is that sweetness, but it's overwhelmed. Overall: I'm not a floral person, and passion flower tends to take center stage here. I won't deny it can be a lovely scent, and has no major flaws. It's certainly what the description said, just not for me :/ It's very light, girly and happy. It also has a decent throw, for an oil.

    Western Diamondback

I should start out by saying I despise Snake Oil. Yet, when I read the description of Diamondback I couldn't help myself. Leather, tonka... I'm in. Both notes I absolutely adore. (Dee is one of my top cuddling favs lol) Wet in bottle: Leather. Like those fake crayon scents I had when I was a kid. hehe Wet on skin: Sage. I just rolled in my mom's garden... (which is currently overflowing with crazy sage). I'm also wearing lederhosen. lol Drydown: Mm. Either tonka or Snake Oil is spicing my leather, which is lovely. The sage is apparently lightening my leather, as well. Someone else said how it was more like a Suede note than leather, and I agree. More dry: Eh.... Suddenly I'm at the pool? It's light, and airy leather. It smells like chlorine and bleached blonde hair. I think the Sage and Leather aren't playing well together on my skin. It could make it a lovely "Suede" like I had for a few moments, or it makes it chlorine-like. I've never really tried sage on my skin, now I wonder. Maybe it's Snake Oil's Vanilla note screwing up. I haven't had luck with Vanilla.... I dunno. The leather turned sour. Maybe overly sweet? Leather shouldn't be sweet <.< -goes and bathes herself in dee- Overall: Snake Oil notes were sort of hard for me to pick out, honestly. I think SO, Sandalwood, and tonka combined into a spicy sweet thing. Then Leather, then Sage. I think this is a skin-chemistry make or break deal. Sadly, mine broke. It was a very complex scent to my lil nose, slightly damp but dry (makes me think of a slithering snake. How they're silky but yet scales...) perhaps that's what invokes pool water for me. -shrugs- I may be trying this again just to be sure it's not a cruddy day, but it looks to be a flop for me :/ Edited: I kun spel

    The Blood Garden

This was a rather unexpected frimp I scored from the last decant circle I was in (crazyness ensued). Glee for something unexpected, right? In the imp: Yum? ick? I can't decide. One wiff is fruit, the other something tangy and stirrs my gag-reflex. Not a good sign O.o Wet on skin: o.o for a few seconds there I flailed and thought this would be putrid. That gag-reflex smell popped up (I wish I knew what it was. It was acidic, tart, bitter, sharp, bright, fruity. Fail on my part.). Ew. Dry on skin: After just a few moments (maybe 2 minutes) the gag smell is completely gone. It must have dried down into something bareable, or my chemistry dislikes it (thank god?). The Oak, Leather, and Ivy (Which I don't actually know the scent of, but am assuming this moist green yummy smell is ivy) combine together to make a real earthy, slightly masculine thing. It's well grounded and some of my absolute favorite notes. But, it's also not manly at all. The grapes, current, I suppose blackberry are giving it a fruity overall tone which lightens it up. It's reminding me faintly of Crawdad dreams - because of the depth, the layers, the fruit and the deliciousness. Not girly, but very womanly in a light way. It's just perfect. I can pick out Clove, actually. It's tingling my nose, and this "bitter" clove is the clove I always think of when someone mentions it. Clove that I cook with, grind, eat. The sharp side of it. Slightly spicey but not quite. Other blends have had clove, but it's the mellow, buttery kind. Not this. I had thought perhaps I was mistaken (could still be lol) and the spice was the ginger lily. Because I don't know what that is, or if it smells gingery at all o.O. But... as time progressed that "lily" smell amped. Giving it that floral, pollen-y, flower smell I associate with lillies. It's not awful, but it's not really my fav note. overall: I jabber a lot, but the blend is lovely. It's womanly, non-seasonal, and satisfyingly dark. Naturally, everything for me is sex. It's like someone just had a tumble in a grape vine. Leather of the man, giger lily/current of the girl, vines and grapes of the garden. It's really lovely, but I'll have to test this imp out a few more times until I'm certain the lily is tolerable and pleasant. Just have to make up my mind before the carnival jumps town.

How to remove scents from your skin

OMG. We use nature's miracle. And I happen to have a scent clinging to me that I want off. o.o -goes to try after post- Or change salt to sugar. I love my lemon drops This is what I've been worried about. I'll get an oil stuck to me I want off, and cry "How do I get you off but leave ME intack!" So it's been annoying. I've gotten a few scents that just -don't- come off. Snake Oil, Robotic Scarab, countless others. Some in a good way. But if you want it gone, you're kind of doomed o.o That sounds perfect. My biggest problem is not having the materials. I should go out and get some Witchhazel to see if that works, but for the time being I just have to die in scents? I lack an oil carrier right now (We're even out of vegetable oil atm.) and I don't have baby wipes. I'd rather not bleach or dip my arms in alcohol :/ We'll go read the natures miracle bottle and see if it will eat me alive or not. I was hoping to find this in the FAQ (searched through it) but couldn't. This seems semi-vital. I assumed there would be a well-known way by now, for all these "Testing" parties I've heard mention. Or do you just hope you don't get scents mixed up? o.O sigh.

    The Robotic Scarab

Robotic Scarab I received as an imp because I wanted to try out "strange" scents. I wasn't very impressed with this, to be honest :/. At least, on me. I can pick out "metallic" if I try, and leather, etc. But really, it smells like the masculine version of "Tempest". Which has Ozone. and so I feel "metallic" (or maybe the "lubricating oils") and ozone share a lot in common. It's not a bad smell, really. It just smells very perfume-y (in tempest's case) or cologne-y in Scarab's case. I suppose I prefer more herbal/fruity/etc blends then cologne or aftershave. I get wafts of different scents when I'm about my day. Sometimes I smell very much like aftershave, other times very much like tempest. The leather is the backbone of this scent (not the forefront, but there and always dependable) but it isn't the leather scent I've grown to love in Dee. So I'm not quite as happy as I thought I may be. As it ages on my skin, the cologne/aftershave becomes less, and like usual, the leather has staying power. The drydown to nothing is more or less leather, and free of the metal and electric, a lovely leather. I suppose this scent is a learning experience for me. I don't like metallics ^^' So I felt encased by a waft of cologne all day. It was very man, as well. I like to try to pull off masculine scents on my little feminine frame, but this was beyond me to try. lol. Aside from being negative and sad about this scent, I do know of a man I think this may work wonders for. He often brags about how he smells like metal and sweat (he's a bit of a computer nerd and so add in "Electronics" as well). This smell reminds me of him. I think it reminds me of tempest for the same reason. There's a tang of electricity running through the background for me, plus the metallic smell. Someone mentioned Steampunk, and definitely was right. A tangy electric note is what makes this quirky. So I wont be shipping this off to trades just yet. I want to see if it will accentuate my male friend's metal & sweat to delicious places.

    Tzadikim Nistarim

I have no idea what any of the notes in this are -suppose- to smell like. I ordered this purely because of the name and the story. (I've been writing a story of my own that had strange ties to this tale, which I'd never heard before. So I felt drawn...) The scent is just lovely. It was sweet, but not sugary gross sweet (unlike other reviews, the sweetness didn't get syrupy or too intense on me. It was light, and felt like a very natural sweetness to me). It had a floral something but yet not quite floral. I couldn't pin down a single note (I felt quite hopeless) but I loved every note I found and wondered about. There was a sort of sweet, blooming smell that had a small bit of a spicy something to it that was most prominent. It was delicious and unique. As it aged on my skin, there was a resiny/incense-y feel that started to grow. But it never got to be TOO much for me (and "powder" smells make me gag ^^'). It was really unique and strange. It was also ancient and wise, but pure. Really unique emotions in the scents. If I use up the imp, I'll be buying a bottle (or coercing someone to buy one for me ). I really adored it, and could see it becoming an every-day scent that I make into "me". ETA: The throw of this isn't very strong at all. I felt it lasted, however. But only in wrist-sniffing. Then it was very much like an incense stick with a very natural syrup (Read that as a non-sugary disaster, just slightly sweet...) dribbled over it. Which I enjoyed. But this is a private scent. Not something those around you notice unless you stick a wrist in their face. Edited a year later: tried it again and fell in love with it. It's now sharper, fruitier, and really a win. Also with LOTS of throw and staying power. What changed, me or the imp? Who knows. But I'm in love now.

Wet in imp: I didn't know what I was smelling. I'm lame like that. It wasn't potent to me, and it wasn't.. anything. o.o Wet on skin: Shabam. There's all the scent in the world. I didn't realize this sucker would have such throw for one little slash of the wand. (Had to flee the room I applied it in, then sort of permeated the living room with my mother going "Why does it smell like Halloween?"). It was buttery, spicey... yep Dry on skin: I put this on without re-reading the notes to see if I could find them (New to this whole thing and having fun ^^ and so, I smelled: Buttery something. Spicey something. Cinnamon? No.... (now I realize it was nutmeg. I'm silly) and clove. It invoked memories, however. And that's what I want to focus on. My Freshman year of college I walked around campus one night in the fall with his guy I had a huge crush on. I remember dry leaves billowing around us, the breeze picking up, autumn crispness with that lingering touch of warmth, and the thought "this isn't right. He's not the one." Despite sounding awful with that thought, the moment was gorgeous, and I had wished I was with someone else or alone to experience it. For me, it was a moment of clarity and understanding. Snapped me out of that dream-world of high school and into the reality of life. Made me realize crushes without knowing someone are senseless, and that the boy beside me, talking about basketball, wasn't what I wanted to walk alongside with. I almost stopped to ask him if I could go on alone, because the night was beautiful and filled with wisdom, and he didn't need to share it with me. I didn't, cause that's sorta mean :/. This was that scent and emotion in a vial. Wisdom, power, autumn, self-reliance, something mystical. Beautiful -snugs imp- Overall: I have a hard time picking out "Pumpkin" scents. I just have never ever gotten much of a smell from a real pumpkin. I always have to search. So, this scent had a clarity to it for me, a "void". But one I enjoyed. I knew something was there, and I knew it was full, but it had no smell o.o. (Instead of color-blind and unable to see blues/greens I'm apparently scent-blind and unable to smell pumpkin. lol) But it was still delicious with everything else. I intend to re-wear this and see if I can train myself to find pumpkin. -confident- There was also a sweet underlying note I wasn't sure what it was, and on reading the description I see it's Peach. Of course, silly me This stuff has AMAZING throw, and even though I feel like it doesn't last long, it does. Just grows a tad fainter. It doesn't hold to fabric or anything like Snake Oil does (that stuff -clings-). But it was mighty strong. My sister said "Yay! Now I can smell your BPAL without running over to sniff your wrists!" ( ) Overall, this scent blends perfectly into the GC "Autumn" blend of my choice. If I'm ever feeling wistful and want it to be autumn, not summer, winter... bleh. Then I'll be dabbing this on (since a dab is all it takes) and returning to autumn for a bit. The notes are present and beautiful, but don't require you sniff them out to understand the scent. It's relaxing and beautiful. Yummy. /end long review

Allergy Questions, Allergies and other reactions to oils

Well, the whole forum devoted to it would work stellar for what you need: Beyond Perfume More specifically is a thread on "Making BPAL-scented Room & Linen Spray". I imagine it's very tricky to figure out what chemical names mean in BPAL info. I tried to do a few searches for sites that may list Chemical names in connection with their "common" names. But I couldn't find anything Maybe you could go to the wiki, and search for the chemical names. Chances are, the search will direct you to the "common" name of the thing. Although, BPAL has many scents that don't have -any- description on the notes at all. But, the reviews section should help you figure out what's present. I feel slightly fortunate so far, and haven't had any reactions to Oils at all. I don't think I'm allergic to much at all o.o. I've never even had poison ivy after rolling in it for a while ^^'. But I have had sun poisoning. Go figure, right? Allergic to nothing but too much sun

    Pronouncing "BPAL" and scent names!

This is an amusing thread. I just got imps this past day of may varieties, including: Tezcatlipoca, Tzadikim Nistarim, Centzon Totochtin, Masabakes, and Endymion (some reason always trips me up o.o) Least now, after reading, I can read these correctly if I try I study Japanese in college, for a minor. And Japanese is -amazingly- easy to read once you get it. They don't have many hidden sounds or dropped vowels or anything like english. You basically pronounce every single thing there. Japanese only have 5 vowel sounds. A, I, U, E, O : Which is Ah, EE, Ew, Eh, Oh. Add it to the consonant and you're basically set. They do tend to "drop" U's when they speak quickly. But pronouncing it isn't incorrect. It's just not colloquial. So, Kitsune is: ki - tsu - ne (each a different character and their own sound) Ki = Key (ya know, a real hard metal key. Unlock my heart.) Tsu = like tsunami. Or a zoo and sue hybrid. Ne = Neigh. Like a horse. tsuki = tsu - ki . Just like above. Tananomae: Ta - na - no - ma - e . Ta = Ta (Like, "Tah tah for now!") Na = Naw (Naw, that's ok.) No = no. that's easy. Ma = the a in "Ha!". e = Eh. (Canadian again) most oftenly with foreign-speakers of Japanese, the ending vowels or hidden vowels are forgotten. So not saying the "eh" at the end of Tananomae is wrong. Or, like in words like "Kirei" (beautiful/pretty/clean) not saying the e THEN the i is wrong. (It's Ki-reh-ee. Not just Kireh) Anyways, I couldn't help but teach as well as tell. Now all Japanese scents should come easily to you ETA: "Tsuki" should probably not have the U dropped. It sounds a lot like "suki" when it is. Suki (often said as "Ski") means love. So you could easily say "Fox Love" instead of "Fox moon" (Er, "Fox Lunacy". Tsuki means moon/month technically though.) if you aren't careful ^^'
