  1. The fear of Halloween. Menacing Haitian vetiver, patchouli, and clove with a shock of bourbon geranium, grim oakmoss, and dread-inspiring balsams pierce the innocuous scent of autumn leaves.

Went medicinal, kind of like a bandaid, on me :(

  2. For those of you looking for Crumpet Rebellion, look no further...here it is :)

It is everything the description promises BUT there is one extra note that I amp, that I hate, and that was not mentioned...

some derivative of anise or fennel or licorice is in this and it is just vile...imagine spilling a jagerbomb on some yummy toast...

  3. Oddly, I'm drawn to this...none of the notes talk to me, except the ambergris accord (I'm a total whale sperm whore!!) but I really really like...maybe the chamomile I smell with the ambergris, I don't know...creamy yet a touch of spice and...not dirt, but terrain...

  4. Yowza...I love it! Wet it is coconut and black pepper...swoon...as it drys it sweetens...the pepper goes away and the sugar comes to play...if you like tropical smelling drinks or suntan lotion, I think you will love this! I love it...more than Tiki Princess...

  5. This is my 6th metamorphisis to try, and finally I think I'm in love!!! Let's see what happens...

Wet: Wow...I smell orange and gold. Fall. Every note listed is present, fully and totally balanced. It's all one harmonious blend...

What does banana taste like? Banana. What does Monarch smell like? Well...Monarch. It's all here making a new, glorious smell...the pumpkin, the amber, the mandarin, the sugar cane, all of it!

Dry: Less pumpkin, but still very orange and autumn and yum. I loves the Monarch!

  6. Wet: OMG this is foul...it's apple bubble gum. Plastic, pink, and green, all at the same time...will try to wait for it to drydown but it's really heinous so it will be hard...

Dry: Why do the scents that do so bad on me have incredible throw and lasting power? Whew...well, dry this is losing the plastic bubble gum and gaining some of the tea and thyme...but it's still a total no go...

  7. GYPSY
Bourbon vanilla, Egyptian musk, tonka, white sugar, and cardamom.

Wet: yup, yummy bourbon vanilla with a touch of sweet sugar...no tonka or caradamom...but, why is it kind of minty? Like the sugar mint in Dorian...

Dry: same as above but fading quickly...no throw, very soft and since my skins eats any and all BPAL, I'd have to reapply hourly...

Dorian and or Green Tree Viper fans, I think you'll like Gypsy!

  8. Hmmm...maybe Black Phoenix or Snake Oil?

I would like to buy my step mom some imps, but all i know is that she uses Patchuli oil from The Body Shop. They have since stopped making her oil, but, mmmm, it smells so good. She will be running out eventually and she doesn't know what she can get to replace it. Her oil smells dark and almost smokey. (I am completely new to BPAL, only have 8 imps, so i don't really know the notes i am picking up. I could be a bit off in describing the Patchuli, but that's just what it smells like to me.) Her Patchuli lasts alllll day and you can smell it when she hugs you or whatever. Something that would be similar to her oil that lasts pretty long.

Could anybody help me out a bit?

    Thank you so, so much!

  9. I say Green Tree Viper: snake oil meets dorian and makes love to a mint leaf...

It's July 4th. I'm throwing a cookout in my backyard. . . I have 4 hours to figure out what BPAL to wear!

    ACK!

Last time, my natural inclination was to go along with the kind of clean, crisp, plant-y thing and I wore Enchanted Florists, but it was just so soft it completely disappeared.

I am also considering starting with a Snake Oil Bath Oil base (as there may or may not be persons unmentioned at this gathering whom I might want to smell very yummy to).

    ----

Also, may start going on weekly picnics to see movies in the park with a guy friend whom I know LOVES my BPAL habit. I've ALMOST got him enabled, so suggestions for that too.

Basically, what do you wear/suggest when you know you're mostly going to be outside, and possibly around a lot of people?

  10. I managed to get ahold of a decant of Black Temple Burlesque Troupe, and have fallen completely in love with it--are there any GC scents that smell similar?
I've heard that Boomslang of the Snake pits is quite similar.
I would mix Boomslang with Antikythera Mechanism for the cocoa plus tobacco that is in Black Temple...also, Velvet Dogs Playing Poker plus Miskatonic University would be a good stab at it...

I just got Bread & Butterfly, and I have to say that I find the toast note in this really similar to the pastry note in Crumpet Rebellion.Crumpet is toasty, buttery pastry with black currant, and as it has aged it's clear there's some nutmeg & cardamom in there. So it has a dry, slightly spicy, dark edge to it.Bread & Butterfly definitely smells like buttered toast, with a white sugar cube. It's not as dark as Crumpet, but if you layer it with something that's black currant heavy, and I think you'll have a pretty similar scent.
I totally agree! It took three years and some begging to get a 1/2 decant of Crumpet Rebellion...and it smells pretty damn identical to Bread and Butterfly.I think the note (that sadly does not work for me at all) that is in common between the two, beyond the listed tea and pastry notes, is star anise or licorice or fennel or something of that nature.I amp the smell of Jager and whenever these notes are present, I can tell :cry2:

  11. I didn't know people were anti-BPAL...I thought there were those who know of it and, of course, loved it, and those who didn't know...

    Well I'll be damned...

I recomend throwing in scents that are representative of the gamut: one cocoa, one tropical, one floral, one clean, one gourmand, one foodie, etc.
