    Yuki-Onna

In bottle: I can barely detect it, but I can definitely make out lemon. On me: Jasmine and lemon; I'm surprised how well they work together. I'm not getting the same 'artificial/synthetic' vibe some of the other reviewers have mentioned, and the scent is somewhat ethereal, just as you'd imagine a ghost to be. It's definitely fleeting, and seems to fade in and out. Funny, I've never had a perfume do that before. The jasmine mellows the lemon so this is never sharp, just a sweet gentle lemon.

    Circe

In bottle: Clean and sharp, but not in a citrusy way. It's quite light and brings a spring formed from melting snow to mind almost instantly. There is a zing to this fragrance. On me: Mew. The zing seems to have been some sort of floral that's growing progressively stronger and stronger. I know I've smelled it before...maybe in Ophelia? I think it might be lotus, which tends to go funny on me, and Circe's going a bit odd as we speak.

    The Star

In bottle: Coconut and something else almost menthol-y. I haven't a clue what it is. On me: Lemony-lime coconut. As it dries the coconut grows more muted and fades to the background, and several bright tropical fruits dance to the foreground. It definitely reminds me of pina coladas. Initially I didn't plan to keep this fragrance, but now I can't imagine getting rid of it. Amazing how an hour changes to the scent!

    The Fool

In bottle: Bubbly. Mint and somethiing light and fruity. On me: Hello spearmint! Smells a bit like Trident Cool Rush gum. I don't much care to smell of gum or toothpaste so I probably won't wear it much, but in the summer it might make a good room scent.

    The Lovers

In bottle: Cinnamon and something sweet. Not sweet like sugar, but more of an indistinct fruity-sweet. On me: Cinnamon is all I can smell when I apply this. As I get used to the cinnamon something else can be found beneath it, but I can't figure out what it is or even describe it. I'm completely mystified by this.

    The Emperor

In bottle: Oddly, I am reminded of sunflowers. This is definitely a blend of florals and herbs. It makes me think of bottled sunshine. On me: I'm still strongly reminded of sunflowers, although a bit of wood - maybe cedar? - seems to be creeping into the blend. The scent is very clear and calm...rather like I imagine an Emperor must be to objectively decide what's best for his empire. I guess this is the best way I can describe the fragrance: It is not the scent of royalty or a throne room or any physical thing; it is a scent representing an ideal king's state-of-mind. After about an hour it started to smell like a men's aftershave. Hmm. Interesting.

    Zephyr

In bottle: Light spring fragrance. As I inhale I hear the Red Hot Chili Peppers song in my head. Fly away on my zephyr. Neroli, verbena, sandalwood and white florals. Very pretty and feminine. On me: Smells a bit soapy to me. If this was a shape it'd be round...there's nothing sharp about this at all. It's a very mellow, peaceful fragrance. Something that reminds me of gardenia – perhaps that's one of the white florals? - musk and sandalwood mingle in this. It makes me feel very, very calm.

    Noir

In bottle: Spicy wood. I can't make out any florals or fruit, but I assume that is what is sweetening this fragrance, which isn't as dark as I usually find cloves and myrrh. On me: Generally I like plum, so I was hoping it would be strong and lovely in this fragrance. But alas, no plum. No fruit at all. This is quite faint on me, but I can detect the cloves and myrrh. Jasmine is usually overwhelming on me but in this blend I can hardly detect it. This feels very warm to me, but it's fading so quickly. Going....going...after only an hour it's gone.

    Dana O'Shee

In bottle: Marzipan. LUSH has a soap called "Snowcake" that this is a dead-ringer to, so I would describe it as "Rather like almond icing but with an added rose and cassie scent," which is how LUSH describes Snowcake. On me: So far I'm getting Marzipan and it is delightful. When I'm on the rag the scent of this goes a bit sour and comes of rather rancid, but when I'm not it stays comforting and light and just wonderful.

    Black Widow

In bottle: It reminds me a bit of cough syrup – which I think is the red wine – but spicy and rosy. It's quite sweet. On me: I got this because of the rose & jasmine, and I've found that rose sometimes goes funny on me and jasmine nearly ALWAYS goes funny on me. Amazing what we learn after a few months at BPAL. As it dries I'm surprised that at this moment, I like it. It almost smells like there are red currents as the base note, with the florals floating over that scent. It's a fruity spicy floral, very complicated. Mmmm... Oh, there's the patchouli and the jasmine and the sandalwood. The rose and the wine have been overpowered. Dried, the jasmine and the rose have done their funny bit and this no longer smells lovely, just a complicated mess of ick.

    Kitsune-Tsuki

In bottle: A perfect blend of fruity and floral. The daffodil/jasmine are equally powerful to the plum. This is perfection. On me: Light and fruity. The plum simply leaps out to say hello, but mellows out after a few minutes into a delicate light scent, perfect for summer. This is a super-feminine scent that is very clean and white. It's about an hour later. Unfortunately, something in the fragrance isn't liking me, and the plum has started to turn into a scent that I would describe as "wet bandaid." Dang it! I am very disappointed, as wet this is a perfect scent for me.

    Ophelia

In bottle: Watery floral. It smells sweet and gentle, like flower petals floating on the surface of a pool of water. It's a bit fruity, which surprised me. On me: This is a VERY strong fragrance on me. Rose dominates the scene like it usually does, but it's sweeter, fruitier than usual. So in an hour it's going to smell a bit funny on me, but right now it's lovely. Lovely and sad, it's rose petals on top of a tiny spring, burbling up from the ground. The petals are floating downstream, getting wet but not being destroyed. It captures the character of Ophelia quite well.

    Vice

In bottle: Chocolate and something. On me: Is orange blossom rather like neroli? Because that is what I am smelling right now, powdery chocolate and neroli. I can't pick up on any cherries sat all, dry or wet or in the bottle.

    Unseelie

In bottle: Pleasant little floral, quite sweet but tempered by herbs. No hint of grassiness at all. On me: There's the grass. This is a very green floral, the flowers (I keep thinking rose and jasmine, but I'm sure it's more complicated than that) are kept interesting and fresh by the herbs. There's a familiarity to the scent but at the same time, it seems very ethereal and mysterious. It keeps changing on me...it's starting to smell a bit musky now. ...oh, and here comes the powder. The scent is pleasant enough but the different stages make it difficult for me to like it, as I like it in the middle of the dry but not at the end or while it's wet.

    Rose Red

This is rose, but it isn't typical rose. I love it because rose often does something funny on me, and this is perfect. The green of the rose is much stronger - it is like a rose plant instead of just a single bloom. I smell the leaves and the stem as well as the flower itself. It's so fresh, even though the vial I'm smelling from is nearly a year old. I can only dream how fabulous this was when it was brand new.

    Hollywood Babylon

In bottle: Candy. Hard cherry candy, but sweeter. The smell reminds me of a freshly opened box of gummi cherries, but with musk hiding in the background. Strange? On me: It starts out like strawberry/cherry candy (you know, the generic 'red' candy) but begins to morph into other things. Something pulls it into marzipan – I'm not sure what makes it turn that way, but it does. The musk starts sneaking in, subtly altering the scent. It becomes more grown-up, less of a neon pink and more of a sultry red.

    Frangipani

Frangipani, from Single Notes. In bottle: Very youthful jasmine. The color I see is baby pink. On me: Very pretty. Frangipani makes me think of honeysuckle and jasmine while not quite matching either. It also reminds me of lemonade on a sunny porch in the spring, before the weather's turned hot. EDIT: Merged with existing thread --Shollin

    Despair

In bottle: Moody and woody. It make me think of being stuck, like I have nowhere to turn. That's rather like despair, isn't it? On me: Hello Chamomile! I can smell the rose and chamomile in the forefront, but behind them there's a forest growing. The chamomile is fading now, giving the blend a chance to work together and make magic. This does make me feel a bit down. Not quite to despair, but definitely mopey. It's very, very pretty, this floral scent. It makes me think of a dark meadow in a forest, which is perpetually in shadow so that the sun can't shine. I like it, but I can't wear it because it affects me so strongly.)

    Desire

In bottle: I can't make out anything distinct. Makes me think of generic "perfume" smell. On me: Patchouli, neroli, and musk. Maybe the neroli is what is making people think lemon? – I can't get a foody scent out of this if I try. But I do smell the rose poking up through the other notes; however vanilla has yet to appear. This seriously makes me think of that scent at perfume counters when all the different fragrances have mingled together into one generic scent. Maybe I'm not giving it a fair chance because of this, but the scent doesn't seem to match its name at all.

    Eternal

In bottle: White florals. Gardenia is the strongest note by far, but I can detect jasmine as well. On me: This is a warm fragrance. I don't get sadness from this; it is a happy fragrance. It is everlasting peace and contentment distilled. I feel like I am in a garden on a warm summer day.

    Harvest Moon 2004

In bottle: It reminds me very strongly of Gluttony, but with less sticky sweetness. There's something else that replaces the candy aspect of Gluttony, and I'm not sure I like it. Can't tell what it is. Oh, just got a whiff of apple and something else autumn-y. Some sort of root, maybe? On me: OK, this scent is hating me. I've only just applied it and it has gone to wet bandaids and plastic. Oooo, I hope it's just temporary. *sigh* After an hour the fragrance hasn't changed. I've never had any perfume reject me so thoroughly! Well, in the perfume's defense it had to sit in its USPS box in the hot sun all day yesterday so that may have warped the scent somehow. I hope it goes better for everyone else!

    Lughnasadh

In bottle: Food for the harvest. Reminds me of cherry, but doesn't actually smell of it. I think the colors it makes me see is dark cherry red (those big fat cherries that are practically black) and pumpkin orange. On me: First whiff seems to be berries and spiced apple. It's strongly fruity to me but there are definitely spices in the background. I could swear I'm picking up some boiled milk, too. This may be another scent that "stinks" up my house during the autumn months. I don't much care for wearing it tho', as it is uncharacteristic to me.

    Blue Moon 2004

In bottle: Cucumber and mint. That's what my initial impressions of this were, in the bottle. As there's no mint in the blend I'm guessing it's the juniper, because 'Juniper Breeze' at Bath & Body Works always makes me think of mint, without smelling of mint. There's a bit of something heavier sitting beneath, but I have no idea what it is. On me: I love how light this fragrance is. It's very dreamy. It stays true to the bottle when first applied, and subtly shifts and changes throughout the day. First Cucumber and juniper, than cucumber and florals, than juniper comes back and some flowers fade, but others open up even more. I don't get the berry sensation that other people seem to be finding. This was the first fragrance to get an unsolicited comment, from my best friend of many years. She was appalled at how much I spend on perfume ("Nineteen dollars for that weenie bottle?") but conceded that it's a wonderful fragrance that smells magical and like nothing else.

    Havisham

In bottle: Cold lime, icy without being sharp. When the bottle is closed I can smell the rose faintly, but once the bottle is opened I smell nothing but the lime. On me: My skin has pulled the rose forward and made this into a light rosy scent. If I had to pick one word for the mood it evokes this would be melancholy. It is a rose once soaked in sorrow and now left to linger in brooding anger. I like it. It invokes a dark atmosphere while remaining a light fragrance.

    June Gloom 2004

In bottle: Lemon soap. Wow. This is strong. On me: The lemon is so strong and it isn't fading. It's been an hour and while the lemon isn't as intense as when first applied it's definitely still dominant. I haven't picked much of anything else up yet.
