Rich text is a godsend. If it's html, I'm still a gumby.Silly question - whassa gumby? I have an Aussie boss, and I overheard him use the expression once, but was too new at the time to ask and haven't had the opportunity since...

Thanks, browneyes!

Seconding the requests for pictures of this year's Lupercalia bottles and wondering what the Faces of the Heroine bottles look like.
I'd even be satisfied with a quick word description if you've seen em but don't have pictures!

Another Xiuhtecuhtli / Angel comparison here.
I've sprayed Angel on me in department stores before and really don't like how it develops on my skin. I did try an Angel dupe wax tart in my oil burner a few months ago, and that's a dead match for Xiuhtecuhtli and is also how Angel dries down if I spray it on card rather than on my skin. Interestingly, I think Villainess' Pangea is a close relation to the same smell.
Which is particularly interesting given the different descriptions:
Thierry Mugler Angel -
Its fragrant nature explores essences of honey, chocolate, and caramel and is blended with notes of vanilla, patchouli, and sandalwood
Xiuhtecuhtli -
Copal, plumeria and sweet orange and the smoke of South American incense and crushed jungle blooms.
Villainess Pangea -
Exotic sandalwood, neroli, vetiver and amber are all grounded by domestic patchouli and musk. Bright citrus notes of lemon and grapefruit find sweet ends in vanilla and chocolate.

Sorry for briefness, but this (2006 version) is much more similar to Hearth 2004 than either Hearth 2005 OR Herr Drosselmeyer 2005 were, which can only be a good thing

start of Bayou is surprisingly rather like O on me; lots of warm honey. It dries down to (as you might imagine!) powerful sleepy Southern florals that are distant cousins to Hell's Belle...
-
I guess this goes here:Theodosius = Thierry Mugler's Angel
...to my nose, anyway. Looking at the notes, it makes no sense at all, but I've tried it on my skin several times and that's what I get.
For me Xiehcutli XIUHTECUHTLI = the beautiful dry-down of Angel without having to wait for it to go bad on my skin...

And how about Haloa?
My ancient Greek isn't amazing, but looking it up the 'o' is a stresed omega, so it would be something like Hah-loh-ah, where the As are short (as in 'happy') and the stress is on the 'oh' (which is like the O in 'crone'). There isn't actually any H in Ancient Greek, it's just created by a difference in breathing, so the 'hah' would be more of a breathy 'ah' than a conscious 'hah' sound.
Heh, and I've just realised that this really isn't how I've been saying it in my head. *fixes brain*
so it sounds like hawaian 'Aloa'?

aunt caroline's joy mojo! it's orange-y, bright, and effervescent.I've got to second the Joy Mojo - it's my "wake up; it's morning!!" scent even in the middle of a dark Scottish winter...

for those having problems with the tiddly wiki, dunno if this is of any help (my highlighting):
I checked it out, and went to do the Tutorial.... but I can't edit. I double click an entry, and get into Edit Mode. I can highlight text and copy it, but can't write or paste anything. There's no cursor either, if there's supposed to be one. I tried in Firefox and IE. Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong? I really want to try it! It does seem cool.
You're not doing anything wrong, per se. You CAN'T edit the one on their site. You have to save it to your computer first, then you'll be able to edit. To save the tutorial, open the EasyToCarry tiddler(it's linked on the left)--it has a link to save. The main site has a link you can save under DownloadSoftware tiddler, too, but that doesn't have the tutorial.

another dissenter on the Pain topic - it's a hint of mint, all sharp and almost greasy/motor oil on me...
-
So ... this isn't August, and I haven't gotten a c'n's, but ccnow's reporting my 9/13 order as shipped 9/27. Couldn't possibly be right, could it? o.Othat's just CCNow's information - ignore it

I lurve the lamentedly discontinued Noir - and it smells wonderful in a way that I would never expected the notes in it to smell; elegant, sophisticated, seductive, grown-up.
What are people's thoughts on the closest match in the catalogue?
-
*sigh* I don't think I'm gonna find what I'm looking for.you'll just have to learn to act like the rest of us - cluster around every new update in the hope that THIS time, your one true scent that is everything you've ever dreamed of is finally hallucinated, created and released by the lab...
-
I was going to say Scheherezade because of the saffron, but I see you've already tried that...
Salome?
SALOMÉ
A scent that is both coquettish and sinister. Exotic and lush, brimming with grace and viciousness: almond with star jasmine, oakmoss, red sandalwood and Egyptian musk.
Queen of Sheba?
QUEEN OF SHEBA
Her scent is a bounty of golden honeyed almonds and a whisper of African and Middle Eastern spices.
possibly Bastet
Luxuriant amber, warm Egyptian musk, fierce saffron and soft myrrh, almond, cardamom and golden lotus.
or Baghdad
Amber, saffron and bergamot with mandarin, nutmeg, Bulgar rose, musk and sandalwood.

heads up - I haven't tried it of a morning yet, but Yemaya is a slightly fresher sweeter blend that dries down to a Joy Mojo like brightness on my skin.
Due to the association with a bright morning, for me this would definitely make a good top up for mental alertness during the rest of the day without being too strong for e.g. office wear

Can I just mention that I didn't find Golden Priapus piercing enough for morning wake-ups? It's lovely and the juniper start falls into sweet comforting vanilla; but I think it's probably more of an evening relaxing before bed blend for me...
-
styro - Xiuhtecuhtli is a good idea actually. I tried it a while back and didn't feel it was a particularly 'me' scent, but I think you might be right about its specific use for tempting me out of slumber of a morning I'll look out for an imp in the future - thanks!
-
or any morning! I conducted a semi-scientific experiment a while back, which is detailed hereI might have to stick my Golden Priapus imp under my pillow to compare it with Aunt Caroline's Joy Mojo's wake-me-up-gently properties...
ACJM as a wake-up scent is something I hadn't considered before--I'm guessing a little joy comes in very handy on Monday mornings! :-)
-
ETA (because my cat posted this for me prematurely...): Golden Priapus does such an interesting morph on the skin--it's got that sinus-clearing blast of juniper at the beginning, but then it goes so very, very subtle on the drydown. I would imagine it's a great morning scent for that reason--waking you up at first, but then settling down into a close-to-the-skin scent for the rest of the day.there's a thought! I might have to stick my Golden Priapus imp under my pillow to compare it with Aunt Caroline's Joy Mojo's wake-me-up-gently properties...
-
Not perhaps what you'd immediately think of as a hippy scent, but the deep earthy goodness of Burial doesn't get nearly enough love!
-
Initially I get a blast of honeyed waxy sweetness.
The dry down is very sweet and perfumey - what I've seen some other brands market as a floral Egyptian Musk - thick, sweet and deep with that edge that makes me think of the residual scents of all the incenses burning in different stalls in Egyptian markets... Not a hint of my arch enemy jasmine in this, from start to finish.
I really like this!

Another Tombstone lover here, although woody and dry as it is, it can be a tad sweet...
