    Red Moon 2004

I posted this on lj a loooonnnnnnnnnng time ago when I first recieved it, but only now was I able to get off my lazy ass and retrieve it I was more curious about this Red Moon everyone was talking about because of the name and background description than because I thought I'd really like it. And to be honest--none of the individual notes in Red Moon particularly appeal to me. And yet, they combine to create a powerfully compelling, mysterious, and deeply sensual fragrance. I can smell the dragon's blood and orange peel and camamile and amber, as well as other notes that I can't immediately identify. It's a deep, complex, inscence-herb-floral, and reminds me very much of a New Age Store--but I don't mean that at all negatively, for it it smells like magic on a dark night--When I sniff it I can picture a glorious fertility festival (this was before I went and double-checked the description). I will be hoarding this 5 ml...I'm pretty much an apathetic agnostic, but this is the first BPAL I've sniffed that's really made me want to dabble in ritual-work!

    Can we order single notes?

go to the main BPAL site, go to the search engine, go to advanced, and scroll down and narrow the search to discontinued scents. There they are

    Shattered

A very minty aquatic, with touches of lotus...not sure about the grapefruit though...icy and refreshing without being insanely sharp
  4. joseybird

    Strength

Green and fresh and herbal, but not at all sharp...maybe some dandalion in here? and a touch of amber? Some sort of golden floral...very nice!
  5. Shanghai =) Tangy lemon candy, refreshing green tea, and a touch of honeysuckle...like wonderful sweet water!
  6. joseybird

    Djinn

Extremely dry woods and something herbal/vaguely aquatic...like Water of Notre Dame! Not what I expected at all...

    Jezebel

Insanely perfumey and generic My imp broke on the floor =( half an hour later though...my room smells like honeysuckle and honey (the real stuff!!) WHY couldn't Jezebel smell like this on me?? Is there something special about my dirty dormroom floor that brings out Jezebel's allure, and makes it smell like a summer morning in the country?

    Whip

Slightly winey dark roses...I can only detect the leather at late drydown. This is like a slightly darker Rose Red for me, and a good substitute for those who must go without

    Dead Man's Hand

Like everyone else has said--suede and leather oil!! Even more amazingly, when this hit my skin, I began to detect a slightly "dirty" note, like sawdust and dirty...a cowboy just come back from a hot day's work...but really really not for me But then the scent mellows, and the dirty note dissapears, and its nice and mellow and comforting Both stages would smell gorgeous on a guy I doubt I'll wear this often, but I'm keeping it on principle

    Recs for Longest Lasting Oils

Awww, joseybird...don't be mean to my hearth.... I love Hearth, but I will admit out of the hundreds of oils i've tried, this is hands down the strongest, longest, crazy lasting, stays around for days oil there is. It is a very interesting scent though not at all bad!! To me it was like smokey cherry marzipan. Other than that I find the more "perfumy" one's to last, like Kali and Lust. Chimera stays well on me and my all time fave....SIN! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Awww I'm sorry! It's just that, even when I just opened my decanted imp to sniff and put the cap back on, enough got on my fingers so that everybody (including me) could smell it on me for the rest of the day, so it's *vital* that you make sure you like it before you sniff it! I need to try Sin Also, The World lasts a long time on me, although most of what lasts is the woody note, and not the cinnamon.
  11. Antique Lace wasn't very sweet on me...just a warm, cozy, non-sugary cotton-vanilla. Pink Sugar sounds RIGHT up your ally though It's like...cotton candy but 10x better!

    Wolf's Heart

Grants courage under extreme conditions, helps overcome fear of death, and strengthens the fortitude of artists and businessmen, enabling them to further their goals. A soft, warm jasmine, with a bitty hint of clove. The dragon's blood is muted here (dragon's blood=lilac for me)...and is there vanilla here or am I just high on Snake Oil? This doesn't get soapy on me, which is bloody amazing, considering that it's floral and almost all florals go evil on me. A very pleasent blend

    Tintagel

This is Tintagel during the cold winter months, with the battle-worn men celebrating in the dining hall...very evocative! Dragon's blood, strooooonnnnnnnnng clove (with some cinnamon?) and a hint of leather...it smells dangerously on the verge of popourri-land for a while, but then the spices calm down a bit, and the leather note becomes a bit more prominant, and it just becomes...cozy I can imagine fans of Samhain and Mabon liking this one.

    Harvest Moon 2004

Finny was kind enough to send me a bit of this Thank you! I had been dying to try this, since I've been all over Mabon and Samhain and other semi-gourmandy fall scents. Fresh on my skin it had that icky butter smell that Jack had, plus something sharply medicinal/floral and spicy...maybe a little fruity...hard to tell. After a few minutes, the butter has gone rancidy, and the back of my throat burns x_x Thank you Finny--had you not sent me a sample I may have made the big mistake of buying a whole bottle unsniffed ._.; Major dissapointment =(

    Springtime scents

Shanghai!! Sweet, aquatic green tea, lemon, and a touch of honeysuckle

    Recs for Longest Lasting Oils

Aged Dana O'Shee has decent lasting power on me, but not fresh Dana O'Shee. I'd try the more spicy/resiny oils. Notes with a greater molecular weight tend to last longer (so I'm not surprised that Scheherazade has lasted for you). I'd also try Snake Oil (especially aged), Anne Bonny (red sandalwood and patchouli--age it), Cathedral (woods and incense--age it), The World (although only the late drydown really lasts on me), and bunches of other similar oils. Of course, if you want something that REALLY lasts...try Hearth...but don't come crying to me if you can't wash it off

    Hearth

Hearth is insanely strong. INSANELY. Industrial strength. Let's just say that the day I got my decant, I opened the imp to sniff. Hmmm...cherry marzipan and smoke. Interesting. I close the imp without applying. The scent follows me around for the next 5 hours. It's an interesting scent...nothing I'd really wear, I think, but...see, I'm scared of applying it :icon_eek:; I mean, if I can smell it for 5 hours *without* applying it, it would proly last 3 days on me (through showers) if I did apply it!!

    Tushnamatay

Mmmm....light, sweet, fragrant sandalwood...a touch of cloves...something creamy-sweet. I can definately see this as a great meditation blend!

    Hod

Very very very carnation...and maybe a hint of cinnamon, but a pretty bland cinamon =/ This is...alright...very bland though

    Tiphareth

Oh dear...this smells horrid on me. The scent makes me feel sick The florals make the pine go evil and insanely medicinal, and the resins don't help...a bit like inhaling glue X____X
  21. joseybird

    The World

Woody and spicy and cinnamony! A teensy bit herbal too...I really really like this one and I would love to find a 5 ml decant!
  22. i agree, i like both but they are not alike. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> They're totally different...they both have pumpkin notes, but that's all. Jack starts out very "candy peachy" and buttery--the savory kind of butter It's drydown is candied yams though If you're into the fruity/green/woodsy combination, hunt down Mabon I'd call that a better fit for a Samhain fan...that or maybe Dia de los Muertos (though that also has florals)
  23. joseybird

    Mabon 2004

Oh gods this is incredible... At first sniff--blackberry wine and ivy leaves. It smells a teensy bit boozy, but not overly so. The cider comes out, and the oak...so beautiful...the blackberry lasts, blending into the cider. If Samhain is the the evening feast and bonfires in the forest, than Mabon is the drinks and cider in the heart of the forest after the fires have gone out and the revelers have calmed down and are watching the stars come out and embracing the slightly chilly, fragrant breeze. Did I mention how insanely happy I feel to have 1 1/2 bottles of this divine elixir?

    London

Venerable Victorian Tea Rose… twisted, blackened and emboldened with wickedness. A sweet, perfect tea rose definately dry. My skin gives this a slightly salty note in late drydown, but it's done that with some other tea notes too, so that's just my skin I guess
  25. joseybird

    The Sun

Bitter orange! And a warm, slightly sweet spicy note...maybe some amber in there too? I can't really see this so much as a perfume, but it really would make an incredible ritual oil
