    Mi-Go Brain Canister

I feel compelled to say that, in my experience, brains (well, the animal ones I’ve been exposed to), smell nothing like this oil. I’m rather lukewarm about this scent; it wavers in and out of hello mom’s perfume and mmm spicy/fruity/candy. The initial scent is really nice-smooth and fruity, vaguely reminiscent of a candy that I can’t summon the name of. After about fifteen minutes, everything else amps up and kicks the fruit waaaayy into the background. It is a hostile takeover. The peony (which I love in my garden) seems to be warring with the musk. The result is a very strong, stereotypical perfume floral that I just can’t like. I can’t find the jasmine at all. I want to love this though, so I plan on trying again and again.

    Corazon

First things first-can I just say that the bottle is probably the most aesthetically appealing in my collection. In the (beautiful) bottle, Corazon is very intriguing. I can smell the lavender, the amber, and the mango. The sage and musk are well in the background. My skin hates the scent, however, which I’m going to blame on the sage-which hops right on up to the front and screams hello, giving the scent a sour, almost astringent quality. I don’t think I’ll wear it again, unless I get brave/curious. I may keep it though-just for the sake of the bottle.

    Midway

If someone somehow snuck into the smell center of my brain, and carried off a file listing every note guaranteed to make me obsessed, they would be able to create Midway. Foody? Hell yes. Sweet? You bet your ass. Perfect? Utterly. I can smell sugared- fried dough, salted popcorn, and a slight hint of overheated cotton candy. This is a warm, syrupy sweetness, and it does smell just like a carnival midway. I don’t find it cloying in the least (though I admittedly love foody scents). The CN update will hurt

    Dead Man's Hand

I was very lucky to get this from a fellow forum member; I initially hedged at the description (I’ve been around too many cowboys), but decided it would make a great gateway scent for my boyfriend. So I had to try it too. Oh…my…God! It does smell exactly like a tack room, right down to hint of dusty horse and saddle oil (very reminiscent of my old Crosby after a dose of Lexol). Horses/ leather is probably the single most emotionally evocative scent for me; needless to say, I love this. He’ll have to wear it often

    Pink Moon 2005

I have to admit that seeing pink sugar in the description swayed me 100%; I am addicted to Aquolina's Pink Sugar perfume. Pink Moon is nothing like it, however. It is sweet, but not the same sugar cone sweet. The floral notes and hint of berry make this a far more grown up version of Pink Sugar, and a great counterpart to Chaste Moon. (One for day, one for night ) I love this scent!

    Hexennacht (2005, 2016, 2019)

In the bottle: smoky-woodsy goodness. On my skin : for the first half hour it smells almost exactly like it does in the bottle, with a slight hint of something that reminds me of Wolf Moon. Not usually what I go for, but complex enough to overcome that. The drydown, however, is terrible on my skin; it smells exactly like pencil shavings. I can see this being a fabulous room oil though, and will probably keep one of the two bottles I bought for that purpose. I need to try on the boyfriend too.

    Manila

This was a freebie in my last order (along with the wonderfulness that is Chimera!). I definitely like this; not enough for a 5ml, but I will be using the imp. It is fruity and spicy, and hints at the cheapo Calgon Hawaiian Ginger spray I love more than is good for me (though not as strong/gingery). It’s a very interesting mix of tropical fruit and flowers, and there’s something in the background that smells like banana pancakes (to me; I’m probably crazy). It manages to be subtle even with the fruity notes; that alone is impressive in my book.

    Hollywood Babylon

This scent tried its best to warn me that we would not be friends; one sniff of the imp and I knew better. However, being stubborn, I tried it on. How could sweet and fruity not be perfect? The only answer that I can come up with is that something in the blend hates my chemistry (probably the cherry). It becomes heavy, beyond cloying, and very artificial smelling. I can pick out the notes, but they all seem fake and medicinal, like children’s cough syrup, candy, and powdered sugar mixed together. When coupled with the Kabuki-esque hints I get (i.e. cherry industrial disinfectant), this is a definite no-go.

    Gomorrah

In the imp, this was sharp and smoky. On my skin: sharp and somehow even smokier; a bit too much for my tastes. On the boy: That’s more like it. He smells every sort of mysterious and sinister (as much as a quiet math geek/bassist can, anyway). Perhaps this will be the hook; he’ll have to stop teasing my addiction

    The Ides of March 2005

I was in love at first read with Ides. The notes were almost matched with my favorite tea (to drink and sniff), and I love Amber without question. In the bottle is was definitely herbal and green, with a subtle hint of medicinal/astringent punch. On my skin (at first) it was soft green perfection. I was ecstatic-for once buying two bottles was paying off. Then the dry down kicked in, and it went straight to perfume, like the faded hint of Red Door on my mother’s work coat. Not good. I may hang on to one for a bit, to see how it ages.

    Snake Oil

I was so sure I’d love this; the description was just perfect. Once I put it on, however, I was quite disappointed. It was vanilla, to be sure, but mixed with a powdery/chemical note reminiscent of play doh. The spices were no-shows, and I chucked it in the ebay box. Two hours and one term paper later, I caught a whiff of my wrist. It was sweet, soft, golden vanilla. The powder was still there, but not in a kids modeling compound kind of way. The spices showed up, making the oil very addictive as far as my nose was concerned. Needless to say, I retrieved the imp, and ordered a bottle today.

    Chimera

In the imp: CINNAMON and sugar. On me: Sweet and spicy -with a feel similar to Three Witches (though not as potent). It faded fast on my skin (stress maybe?), but stayed true to its initial form. I can see myself wearing this quite a bit once falls rolls around; I think a bottle will be in order soon

    Perversion

Mmm… Creamy and not at the same time; like wearing something vanilla to the bar and coming home with the ubiquitous bar smell (but in a good way). I cannot stand the taste of spiced rum, but in this blend (which smells like it) I can almost imagine being tempted. The Chardonnay definitely sweetens things up, while the tobacco keeps things from turning saccharine. I don’t get the leather at all, but I don’t think it would sway me either way. I definitely love this blend. Not sure about it’s bottle potential, but will definitely drain the imp dry.

    Dorian

Oh Dorian! How I love thee! Sweet iced tea without being heavy or syrupy. You’re feminine and yet wonderfully ambiguous at the same time. I had two girls in my Tuesday morning class ask what I was wearing. The vanilla not is soft and sweet; the lemon wisp is perfection. I feel the need to upsize

    The Living Flame

Very floral, very much the smell I associate with the perfume my mother wore when I was a child. The notes do blend seamlessly, and I can see the various sweet/ musk/floral bits that have already been mentioned. On my skin, however, everything quickly morphs to generic perfume smell ™ . I envy those of you with compatible chemistry. Mom should love it though

    Xiuhtecuhtli

Perfect. Even though I’d heard the Angel comparisons, I was hesitant to order a 5ml unsniffed. Boy do I wish I had. This *is* Angel after it settles down from super- spicy- everyone- look- at -me -and –my- cloud- ‘o- smell mode. It has the same complexity. Hooray affordable spicy-sweet-earthy-citrus-mystery perfection!

    Hellcat

I am in love. Hellcat is sweet, almost too sweet, but with a certain sharpness that keeps it from crossing that line. The buttercream and hazelnut are balanced by the rum and mead. The almond softens everything up. It’s a boozy scent, to be sure, but I think it’s far more likely to prompt food cravings than suspicions of drunkenness.

    Cold Moon

I purchased a 5ml of this unsniffed from a forum member. I need to stop doing things like that. For me, it may as well be called "I can't believe its not Ice Queen," as it morphs into the same medicinal/chemical laced crispness. Whatever notes they share do not like me. I may hang onto it for a while to see if it smells different later. I certainly hope so.

What to wear for Shakespeare's Birthday?

I'm adding a vote for Queen-it seems so fitting for the occasion.
  20. I'm tossing in (another) vote for Embalming Fluid, and one for Dirty... Dirty just smells clean and wonderful I wore it to a Habitat for Humanity project (digging in the sun) and still smelled tolerable after six hours of sweat.
  21. My boyfriend has a smell vocabulary of two things: soap and alcohol. (Sometimes there is a not soap or alcohol..so he has 3 smells on technicality). Needless to say he finds the whole BPAL thing very silly.

    Hunger

In the bottle-very citrus-sweet but sharp. On my skin-vanilla and orange tic-tacs from beginning to end. Unfortunately, orange tic-tacs are synonymous with church services for me (I’d dig in my grandma’s purse for ‘em to kill time) so I don’t think I want to smell like them.

    Endymion

Pear and rose and lily! How perfect could it get! This blend is sweet and soft and wonderfully floral (without being heavy). The pear really adds dimension to the rose, and the lily peeks out every once in a while. Its a perfect spring scent-clean and girlish.

    Saturnalia

I received this as an extra in my last order, and I’m very glad I did. I don’t usually go for violet at all, but something about this blend is compelling. It’s spicy and warm and almost nutty on my skin. It reminds me of something I’ve smelled before, an oil or perfume from a Vintage store I used to go to. I’m in an odd sort of like with this scent; I may order a 5ml…

    Dragon's Blood

I certainly did not expect to like this at all. I’d smelled it countless times before and been put off by it every single one of them. It was always too fruity, too floral, too something… The first time I tried this version I was put off. It was very strong and vaguely harsh rosy. Recently, I tried it again. It was subtle and sweet and almost tropical. It reminds me of a flower I can’t put my finger on, some sort of Iris mixed with some fruit (not a hint of cherry for me though). I can’t see myself wearing this everyday, but I will definitely finish the imp.
