    Spirits of the Dead

In the bottle: Very green and slightly woody. I'm mostly getting green tea with some form of wood. First on: This is slightly sweet, like green tea with sugar cane. Very fresh. After a bit: The sweetness comes out more but not in a sticky way. Still mainly green tea. A bit more: The floral is starting to show now, but it's still fresh and light and full of.. green tea. I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE this.

    Niflheim

The House of Mists, a land of icy fog, shadowy darkness and soul-chilling cold. Dark, damp blossoms winding through an impenetrable, murky gloom. In the bottle: Dark and damp, very green and earthy. First on: Dirt, it smells like dirt, not fresh soil like graveyard dirt, more like dusty dirt. After a bit: The aquatic is coming out around the dirt, it reminds me of being at the cottage after a good rain. Wet forest, damp ground, stones slick with moss. After a bit more: It seems to be staying rather true, a slight floral is there, but I can't put my nose on it, gardenia, carnation? Hmm, the aquatic qualities are fading and it's becoming more woody. It's an interesting one, I'll have to get the hubby to try it on, he seems to be more into this style of scent.

    Nuit

In the bottle: A thick floral, this gives off a golden colour for me. First on: Thick and heady, not sure which floral I'm getting, or if it's the incense that is making this so heavy, either way, it's very rich. After a bit: It starts to lighten up a bit, the white musk is coming out and some delicate sweet but slightly tart florals are there. After a bit more: I think I'm getting lotus mixed in with musk and moonflower as well as the very fragrant jasmine. This is a very feminine blend and very floral. I'm rather glad the incense hides after a bit, def a keeper.

    Machu Picchu

In the bottle: Wet, light, clean and floral. First on: This is very fresh and grassy with some ozone and citrus After a bit: There is a citrus note in here that is rearing it's pretty little head, I think lemon, but it's hard to tell with the grassiness laying over top. Still clean and fresh though. A bit more: This is very beautiful and airy, I could sniff at this all day. Def a keeper.

    March Hare

In the bottle: Sugared apricot and vanilla First on: This is very sticky and sweet. Apricot in a heavy syrup with vanilla and honey with the faintest whisper of clove After a bit: The clove is coming out a bit more and the apricot is taking on a scent of more being dried apricots and not fresh juicy ones. A bit more: The over all scent has a bit of waxiness to it now, the clove coming out on top with the dried honeyed apricot coming in underneath. It seems with the apricot scents I have to try them on a day all their own.

    Despair

Emu Nymph sent me a drizzle of this to check out, she rocks. In the tarted bottle: Lavender and chamomile, very herbal and green. First on: The lavender is really strong in this, with the chamomile making a shot through it. After a bit: I don't know why, but it's just turned to powdery roses on me in the most unpleasant manner. I'm not waiting longer, I've got to wash this off.

    Block Buster

In the bottle: Bazooka Joe bubble gum, for some reason, most of the voodoo blends smell initially like this to me. First on: Bazooka Joe mixed with an apple sauciness. After a bit: Ok, now this is mainly apple sauce with a slight sprinkle of cinnamon. A bit more: Stays fairly true the the apple sauce I'm getting. This fades rather quickly, but is really nice regardless. A keeper.

    Herr Drosselmeyer

In the bottle: Benzoin with maybe a little oakmoss. First on: Benzoin, just pure benzoin After a bit: Same thing. A bit more: Yup, this is mostly benzoin, with a slight smokiness from I'm thinking oakmoss. A little single noted on me, same with my husband, but he really likes it, and he's who I got it for, so it's all good.

The most hippie / hippy scent you have tried?

I find the majority of the Ars Draconus line to smell much like an occult shoppe or bong shop. The one's I would suggest most would be Dragon's Claw, Dragon's Hide and Dragon's Musk (also the original Dragon's Blood), but the rest are variants on a theme.

    Eleggua

Alright, I said I wouldn't review these for their scent, because in general, these aren't to be used cosmetically, but I annointed my Papa Legba likeness and then rubbed the left over oil into my hands for concentration. The scent of wet cigar tabacco, banana leaves, cane sugar, bay rum and coconut helped in the creation of a perfect atmosphere for what I was doing. If you don't have any of the other Yoruba based Temple TALs I would highly recommend this for initiating the Loas or direct concentration on Papa Legba. Beth did an amazing job with this oil and for me, it does exactly what I wanted it for.

    Grand Guignol

(Frimp from Graycat) In the bottle: Rehydrated dried apricots in a simple syrup. First on: I'm not getting boozy, just very sweet, juicy, rehydrated apricots (I say rehydrated apricots because it doesn't smell like fresh apricots, more the dried kind, but is still very juicy). After a bit: I really have to stick my nose against my arm for this one. The same as above but less juicy, now it's more like dried apricots. This scent is very pale in power, I think I'm going to have to review it again on it's own when I haven't been sniffing at anything else.

    Ultraviolet

(Received as an extra from Graycat) In the bottle: Eucalyptus, ozone and wet metal. First on: Wow, this has quite the throw, the eucalyptus is there but the mint comes out stronger on me, a sweet spearamint, infused with ozone. After a bit: It kinda reminds me of toothpaste and wet steel. The eucalyptus has almost completely faded into the background now. I'm not getting any violet or neroli from this. A bit more: The violet is just peeking through this bitter scent. This is very cold and hard smelling with a twang of sweetness. Like abandoned factories in the frigid days of January, where crystalized snow whips about and cuts at your skin. This scent will be perfect to cool you down on those agonizing, hot, humid days. A keeper for sure.

    The Raven

In the bottle: Violet, oh sweet violet with the faintest whisper of musk. First on: It smells almost identical to my Attar Bazaar African Violet oil with something warmer linger underneath, it's also rather wet smelling. After a bit: Violet, still my sweet violet, with a slightly golden musk and iris side dish. This is very pretty, light but not too light, wet but with warmth. Floral, but not in an assaulting way. Thank you so much graycat. Quoth Spastik_Kitty, please, some more.

    What scents are masculine? Gender-neutral?

For what I like on my husband, that would be Wilde, Bluebeard, De Sade, King Of Diamonds and Magus (for a top 5, more traditionally male). Now he would pick Laudanum, Malediction, Brimstone, Saint-Germain and The Lion (more gender neutral). It really depends on personal taste.

    Laudanum

Hmm, also hadn't reviewed this one. This is tarted. In the bottle: Rootbeer and iodine. First on: Sassafrassy goodness with a spicy flash of nutmeg and that not so lovely iodine/antiseptic note (but that note is barely noticable). After a bit: Ooh, I'm really liking this and think I must just yoink it from the husband's stash. It's kinda smelling like a rootbeer float, cool and yet warm and creamy at the same time. The medicinal part has evaporated. A bit more: This is making my mouth water and is for sure going on my lists of 10mls wanted. I can't believe I've never tried this, I LOVE rootbeer. It's very much a spicey sassafrass scent, maybe a little tonka, maybe a little amber in there. I'm guessing it's the poppy and myrrh that led to the antiseptic qualities, thankfully they aren't dominant on the dry down.

    Bluebeard

O_o I can't believe I haven't reviewed this, this was one of the first imps I ever received. Hmm, probably because my husband has been hiding it in his ever growing collection. In the bottle: Fresh and green smelling, the lavender is seeming dominant. First on: Mmm, a light musk, lavender (but more refined). After a bit: Lavender is in the forefront still, with a light vetiver tinged musk in the background. I'm not getting the violet here, but I think it's helping tone the lavender down. After a bit more: This is slightly sweet (herbal sweetness), very fresh and clean smelling with almost a slighty woodyness to it. I need to get him to wear this more. It's an excellent warmer season scent for men.

    Santa Muerte

In the bottle: Wet, roses and chocolate orange? First on: Holy rose batman, but not an unpleasant one, it's the chrysanthemum and cactus flower that confused me as chocolate orange initially, the scent is more defined now. There is a very faint whisper of vetiver. After a bit: Still very much rose, but if one could b a white rose scent, not a red rose or a rose of any other colour, a clean, pure white rose, that would be this. It also has a bit of sweetness from the other floras and some tang from the vetiver. Overall it's quite pretty and reminds me of Ace Of Hearts in some way. A keeper for me.

    Saint-Germain

The husband slopped this on today and I loved it on him, so I thought I'd review it on myself. In the bottle: Ooh, mini-gasm here. Vetiver, amber and moss. First on: Very heavy in the vetiver department (I know it's not listed, but I'd bet my life on it, or lemon) which I love, and amber, no moss but something that's appearing like white musk. This is very clean and fresh. After a bit: The amber has gone now it's mostly a mossy tinted white musk. I have no idea where the carnation and lavender is, but that's quite alright, I don't like them anyways. It's very different on me than it is on him, it's mostly warm mossy amber, very golden in colour on him, either way, it's the perfect "guy" scent next to Wilde.

    Dragon's Heart

Obtained as a swap from last summer's wonderful Toronto bpal meet, it's tarted. In the bottle: Floral and soft. First on: Still floral but I'm getting some resins and black musk. On for a bit: Smells like an occult shoppe, which is fine with me, heavily scented, hints of musks and patchouli, some floral (I think maybe lotus or lilly) with a warm shot of resin and spice. I really love this, the red musk doesn't come out on me at all, which is a good thing, because they turn VERY rancid on my skin and generally I strongly dislike patchouli scents, but this one is very minimal and the other notes balance it very well. I don't, however get any type of fruit from this, which is also good becauseI have far too many fig scents. Maybe because it's well aged. This is right up there for my favorite "warm magical scents".

    Florence

In the bottle: Berries and pine? I have no idea why I'm getting pine in this. First on: Same thing, a very sweet pine and slightly over ripe berries. It must be the spices. After a bit: This is exactly like most Pine candles I've encountered, weird that my sense on scent keeps focusing on that. After a bit more: The berries are a bit more prominent, still sweet but not cloyingly so, it still reminds me of xmas trees. I don't think I'll be keeping this.

    Lust

Hmm, I can't believe I have some imps I haven't yet reviewed. In the bottle: Sweet and antiseptic, mostly red musk and patchouli. First on: Ylang ylang, red musk and patchouli, but it still reminds me of something aniseptic, like the scent of iodine. After a bit: It turns a bit powdery on me, mostly just the ylang ylang and patchouli now with something very sweet lingering underneath. Red musk doesn't work with my skin at all and I'm not a fan of patchouli, so this one I wont be keeping.
  22. Spastik_Kitty

    Fae

In the bottle: Peach and bergamont. Sweet and sour at the same time. First on: Fresh peach that is slightly tart, bergamont and a slight hint of oakmoss and musk. This is a very airy scent with a bit of zing. After a bit: It's mostly just a sweetened white musk now with an ever so slight crispness to it. In some ways the scent reminds me of Lick-A-Maid. I rather like this, but some might find this a little candy oriented. Edited to add: After a bit this started to smell like Givenchy's Amariche (however it's spelled) which isn't a good thing. I wont be wearing this again

    Nocturne

In the bottle: A fresh clean floral with a very pale purple feeling to it. First on: The lilac takes center stage here with violet lurking in the distance, there is also something slightly buttery in there. After a bit: The tuberose is making this slightly powdery, like a dry talc scent. The lilac and violet are holding hands now. This is a very soft, gentle, feminine, almost innocent scent. I really like this and it would be great for days that I just want a hint of simplicity.

    Love Me

In the bottle: Floral, sweet cinnamon with a bit of civet. First on: Everything blends in an odd way to smell like Bazooka bubblegum. After a bit: The scent stays rather true to in the bottle, I wish I could put my finger on the floral, I know it, know it very well, but I can't remember which one it is. After a few hours: This calms down to a brown sugar scent, which I really like, but unfortunately this part is so faded that it's barely even noticable. Over all it's not a bad scent, not sure of it's magical powers, I probably wont get a bottle, but I'll keep the imp.

    Mi-Go Brain Canister

Thanks again to Joseybird for this. In the bottle: Tart fruits, strong florals and... urine O_o First on: Some pomegranate and peony and urine. After a bit: Civet. Floral, sweet, musky civet. I'm rather dissappointent the way this blend turned out on me. The florals and musk blend with the sweetness of the fruit to something quite rancid (civet).
