  1. Dead Man's Hand, hands down (no pun intended) if you can beg, barter, or borrow to get some. It smells like walking into a leather goods store.

I'm glad someone finally mentioned this scent. I bought some when it was available for my husband who is a mad Clint Eastwood/spaghetti western film fan. He gave it one sniff and announced it smelled like "new shoes" :P :D :D

    I swapped it....

  2. :P

and BPAL is the only kind of perfume that i will buy before i try as i know if it doesn't work for me, i can easily swap/ebay it to someone that loves it and i can buy more snake oil!

i'm trying to expand my perfume horizons within BPAL, but when half the office refers to me as the one that smells gorgeous and line up to sniff me, it's hard to want to try anything else other than snake oil....and try explaining to them that the smell they are addicted to is called that....could be worse, it could be smut!

  3. i wanted to buy jester for a friend. she is allergic to coconut. is that going to be a problem? i know it's not listed as an ingredient, but what about carrier oils?

I would definitely e-mail customer service for that one, TofuWarrior. The folks at the Lab are the only people who could have the definitive answer for that question. :P

good thinking. i might be cheeky and ask for a list of 'safe' scents :D

  4. try:

bordello - red boozy fruitiness, not too sweet for me anyway

    avoid:

    blood countess - as above

    I had the exact opposite experience, and would recommend the exact opposite course of action. ^^;

On me, Blood Countess is smoky, deep and dark fruit, hardly any sweetness at all. Bordello is like some sort of artificial candy sweet smell.

ooh it's that chemistry thing again. :D :P

  5. try:

embalming fluid - lemony but not sweet - more of a lemon tea scent

    phantasm - jasmine and lemon

bordello - red boozy fruitiness, not too sweet for me anyway

if i remember rightly eve and eden were soft, creamy fruit scents

    avoid:

    lady macbeth - fruit sweets

    blood countess - as above

    swank - alcoholic boiled sweets!

    the hamptons - as above

march hare - apricot and clove!

tintagel - was fruity but last time i used it it was almost pure cinnamon/clove. maybe my imp has gone off!

    forbidden fruit - very sweet

hollywood babylon - very sweet strawberry champers!

  6. swank - you must try this!

    the hamptons - see above!

    21

    grog

    juke joint

pumpkin patch - the pomegranite one

f5 smells of lime to me. margaritas maybe :P

    and for non-alcoholic days:

    kumiho

    dormouse

    embalming fluid

mata hari - smells coffeeish to me

gluttony - smells like a hazelnut coffee i once had

  7. i try to train myself to use a scent to calm myself down. cheshire cat has been my one for a couple of years now. when you are happy/relaxed etc put on a certain scent (the one you would like to be your calm scent). do this every time you feel that way. before too long, just putting on the oil will recreate that feeling, so whenever you are feeling stressed or anxious you could have a BPAL that's instant calm :P

ETA possibly no good for you immediately, but delayed gratification is always better :D

  8. I'm not sure what fig smells like, but I thought I'd be able to pick the mandarin out.

to me, this smells just like March Hare. I guessed the main ingredient as being apricot then looked to see the description.....Mandarin and fig....No cigar, then!

It is lovely though. Totally different to how I thought it would smell. I imagined a dark, smoky Perversion type scent so fruity is a surprise!

  9. wet - this had a floral scent. couldn't pick anything out, but it was light, white florals. didn't change for me once it dried i'm afraid, and i could barely smell it at all 3 hpurs later, even shoving my wrist up to my nose didn't work.

i should like this from the description. i might look for another imp just incase my one was defective/old/stale...i want to like this one!

  10. my bottle of this might have aged but all i'm getting from it is violet. loads of sweet soapy violet :D i'm sure this used to be coconutty and musky but it's parma violets now! (you do get those over there, yeah?)

i'm loving this bottle....might need another one :P

  11. all i got from this one was lavender. there may have been something esle herbal behind it, but mainly lavender. which would make sense given the name!

another one useful for those times when sleep doesn't come easy as your mind is racing with al lthe things you need to do at work.

  12. in the bottle this is a sweet peppermint. not sharp like the EO, but far more peppermint rock-like.

wet on my skin it smells the same but has a chilling effect on my wrists. this is perfect for hot weather i can sense the icy coolness.

dry it's morphing into a sugary sweetness and less peppermint (i so want to get the vanilla that everyone else does but i don't). i wish i had another bottle of this so i could drench myself as it's so cooling.

4/5 (because i want vanilla damn it!)
