  1. Ok, this is pure patchouli on me... maybe a hint of smokiness but I can't really get to it through the patchouli.

Unfortunately, I over did it with patchouli when I was 16 and cannot wear it. Ever. I even tried it on the Hubbo, even he said it was too patchouli and he's pretty forgiving. Sad me.

  2. This was a frimp, yay! Very excited about this as I would have never thought to even try it.

In the imp it was mainly a vague sweet scent, slightly soapy.

On, I'm afraid it turned into an apple scented air freshener from the 80's. Those rubbery ones that were in a conical plastic holder that you pulled the top up to open. Sadly, it didn't morph into anything else.

I think it is the combination of dragon's blood and apple, they just don't like me.

  3. I received this as a frimp months ago and was a little hesitant to try it as it sounded a bit too sweet to me.

It smelled fruity sweet and floral in the imp and was pretty much the same when I put it on with the white grape being the dominant note. As pyewacket says above, it's definitely sparkly!

Something about it smells very 'little girl'ish to me. After it dried down it was still mainly grape but generally just a sweet fruity floral. It did make me sneeze quite a lot so it may not be worn often.

  4. I've been wanting to try Mata Hari for years as I'm intrigued by it's namesake. However, I was scared as rose and I, we don't really get along. Rose takes over everything on my skin. The thought of five roses!

I finally took the plunge. In the imp it was all rose. Oh dear... here's hoping.

On wet it was definitely rose but not the headachey rose I usually get. Possibly sniffed some jasmine but it was pretty much just rose. After a few hours it softened and was slightly warmed by the tonka, but that was it. No coffee, no wood, no vanilla, no fig.

It's nice but not what I was hoping for. I wanted the coffee and wood to mingle with the rose a bit more. Afraid it is just not me. :(

  5. From the imp: musk! Getting hints of red musk but not as strong as some of the other scents with r.m.

On, it's all unadulterated sweet musk, still getting hints of red - I love this. Great throw - the hubby could smell it from downstairs.

Dry, still quite musky, has lost the red leaning and is just sort of a 'musky' smell, slightly dusty, slightly hay like.

This is very nice... very glad it's a GC! I'm not one for layering but this might have to be layered under some other favourites!

  6. In the imp I get a lovely and tempting (ha) floral mix, mainly the rice flower and wisteria, I think.

On wet it turns into a sort of sweet vague floral, I can't distinguish any rose (surprisingly as rose always goes crazy on me) or peach and definitely, absolutely no musk.

Dry down is the same as above but just fades into nothingness into a few hours.

It's nice, but nothing to write home about.

  7. This. Is. Delicious.

I can't believe I never thought to order this before.

In the imp I couldn't really discern much, a faint whiff of vanilla and ... lemon?

On wet, oh good gracious, this is so tasty, so lovely, so... amazingly amazing. I could not stop pulling my sleeves up to smell my arms! I get musky vanilla tempered by what I imagine is the fougere with faint lemon, violet(?) and black tea.

I've never been a huge fan of vanilla scents though I love vanilla flavour, but the way in which the vanilla combines with the other notes it is absolutely gorgeous.

This on a man... whoa, I'll have to douse the hubby later.

I only wish there was more throw and that it lasted longer on me - and I really slathered it on. My skin seems to be eating it up.

  8. Frimp in an order and I was super excited about this as I would never have gone for it; it's the complete opposite of types of scents I like.

This is a lovely scent. Someone said it earlier but it really does smell 'cool'. It's all coconut and water on me. The coconut note the lab uses is lovely and not at all sun tan lotion-y.

However... I did grow up in a Hawaiian Tropic household and anything remotely smelling of coconut reminds me of suntan lotion. I'm hoping that I can find someone who likes coconut who also did not have a sun worshipping mother so that I can give some BPAL love away.

  9. This was a frimp with an order last autumn. I was skeptical as I'm not a huge fan of honey scents...

It started out really nice and 'warm' smelling. It was mainly the olive blossom, honey, sandalwood and the tiniest hint of vanilla. Then, it dried down to just smelling of wee. I think it might be the honey and vanilla mixed with my skin chemistry.

... there was a reason I wasn't into honey scents! Wee is not for me.

  10. In the imp it was sweetness and wood... I suppose that might be the cherry and rosewood. No musk and definitely no lavender.

On wet, still quite sweet but the wood is slowly disappearing and the rose is starting to come out. Still no musk or lavender.

Dry: Sweet, sweet rose. Still no sign of the musks or lavender.

I was hoping for cherry and musk to come out on my skin but alas, no. It is a lovely scent but the main note of rose is just not me.

Perhaps I'll try it in the summer.

  11. In the imp I get sweetness - I've never tried any scents with plum, so I'm guessing the sweetness is mainly the plum - with a hint of spiciness, but not the carnation I'm used to.

On, the musk comes out and the scent becomes more rounded, slightly more complex. My thoughts were 'kind of sexy but innocent'. I re-read the description, ah, yes.

Drydown the musk takes centre with the plum backing it up. Something in it reminded me of Morocco so assuming that is the Arabian musk.

It's really nice, I like it, but I think I would have preferred more carnation, up front and in my face. I'll use the imp but probably not big bottle purchase.

  12. In the imp: cherry cola or Dr Pepper, which I love. This very exciting!

On wet: The cherry cola-ness is there but not as cherry cola-ish and there is something gritty here. It reminds me of Brimstone so could be the patchouli?

Drydown: :( It goes to powdery floral, exactly the same as Hell's Belle for me. So, perhaps they share the same floral note(s)? Too headachey I'm afraid.

    Sad, sad face.

  13. I bought this in August of last year as the notes sounded different to my normal scents but intriguing. It was also the first scent with coffee I've ever tried so was a little nervous.

August was still pretty warm here and my initial reaction to a tiny, tiny amount of the oil on my skin was that it was way too sweet and cloying. It never seemed to mellow, it was all mallow. Heh, sorry. I decided I'd leave it a few months and try again later.

It's now January and pretty darn cold. From the bottle I still got that sweetness but put a decent amount on anyway. It was sweet, but not as cloying or headachey as I remembered. It mellowed on drydown and more notes came out. It was then mallow but backed up by a hint of coffee and really lovely, warm, woodsy smells. I wouldn't know hinoki wood, khus or oak bark if you shoved them up my nose so can't say what kind of woodsy smells so I assume its the three together. I am really liking this.

I wouldn't have thought the sweetness would be me but I really love this scent. It doesn't morph after drydown and it has serious staying power. 10 hours later and it's still as strong as it was this morning. It's definitely a soft, warm and brown scent to me.

Yes! Another unsniffed, limited edition success!

  14. This was a freebie, which was very exciting as I've been wanting to try some voodoo oils for a while!

In the imp it just smelled sweet to me, no discernable notes.

Wet: Holy Coconut! I mean, serious, tangy Hawaiin Tropic coconut. Nothing else. Moderate throw.

Dry down: Kind of plastic-y sweet, like (I think someone else said it already) scented plastic toys. Did anyone else have Rose Petal Place dolls... This is not bad however there is very little throw and I prefer to wear scents that enter a room before me and leave after I do.

I am wearing this today whilst I draw up a dissertation presentation for end of semester assessment... I'm hoping that because I've worn Horn of Plenty while making my slides that I'll get tops marks when I do present! Fingers crossed.

Edited to add: By the end of the evening it had morphed into a raw cookie dough smell (sans chocolate chips). Really yummy but barely there, sadly.

  15. Firstly, patchouli and I are not friends. This was a frimp from the lab and having read the other reviews I was a little worried about the patchouli here.

Opening the imp - whoa PATCHOULI. Still, I perservered and put some on. It was all patchouli for the first hour or so then I smelled something akin to a banana split, guessing it's the coconut and at this point had to wash it off. Probably didn't help that had food poisoning a few days previous and strong scents are still making me feel queasy but nonetheless, patchouli and I don't mix.

Patchouli lovers would probably like this as it's patchouli and then some. Not for me.

  16. Not what I expected. I have to admit it... I'm afraid of patchouli. I had a bad experience with it in high school and I've hated it ever since. SO, when the lab frimped this one I was hesitant. It's been sitting in my 'not yet tried' box for weeks. I opened the imp and was surprised that the patchouli didn't come right out and strangle me. 'Okaaay' I thought... so I put it on. Hey, not bad, not a whiff of patchouli, or the patchouli smell that I usually recognise.

Wet it was sweet but not grossly so, slightly fruity but I wouldn't have guessed grapefruit if I'd not read the ingredients. Maybe it's just the nectarine I'm smellling?

After a few hours, it's still that nice, soft sweet. Kind of creamy, a hint of fruity juciness and something woodsy, possible a very light touch of rose. It's quite a warm, soft scent, maybe the musk is giving me the warm feeling.

Not a lot of throw, I have to put my nose to my wrist to get a good whiff but I like it. Not in a big bottle way, but I'll definitely use the imp.

  17. I bought this for my husband but uh, he's not even going to get a look in. The notes are not scents I would identify as 'me', with the exception of musk, but pine, nah, juniper, nuh uh. But, all together - YUM. The description 'deep, solemn earthy' is so right. I love this.

Upon application it's mainly pine but not an in your face pine, it's a lovely, 'I'm walking alone through the forest in the winter (and I can see my breath but I'm wrapped up and loving the crisp air) with a soft pine needle carpent under my feet and beautiful pine trees towering above' kind of pine, just sort of there and comforting. It eventually fades ever so slightly and the musk becomes a little bolder and this is where the scent remains.

Great throw and lasting power - I could still smell it when I woke up the next morning.

Sorry hubby, I'll share but I'm not giving this one up!

  18. Oooh, not at all what I expected. I don't usually go for florals - they either go powdery or give me a headache - but thought, what the heck, right?

First on it is a sweet smokiness, an almost buttery smokiness (similar to the smokiness I get from Hecate, that also smells buttery and smokey to me). The smokiness sadly fades but it then goes a bit carnation (I like) and eventually to a really comforting floral. What the florals are I have no idea but they are lovely nonetheless. I only wish the smokiness would stick around a bit longer and that the scent as a whole didn't fade so quickly. After only a few hours, it was pretty much gone.

  19. First on: Hello Lime!! I've never had such an incredible urge to lick my wrists. Actually, it doesn't taste horrible but I wouldn't recommend drinking it.

After drying down the lime is still there but everything else starts to come out. I can definitely pick out the musk and the green tea and the hibiscus makes it very tangy. It reminds me of a much nicer version of the high street perfume 'Ghost'. It's a lovely scent just not for me.

  20. In the imp: very interesting - very excited about having ordered this one!

Wet on skin: one very fleeting moment of musk then FIR. All fir.

About an hour later: some of the other notes started coming through but I couldn't quite put my finger on what it was I was smelling but it reminded me of something mixed with FIR.

Then I realised, it reminds me of the way my dad's car smelled on the inside when I was a kid. I blame him for it not working on me! Damn it dad!

  21. Wet and in the imp: SO creamy. Creamy, soft, pink and lovely. Not usually my kind of scent at all. But, for some reason, I cannot stop sniffing myself.

After a while I am still getting the creaminess, the softness and loveliness. It's warm and soft with a tiny hint of floral, but mostly the musks and something giving it the slightest edge, the white amber, perhaps? Dunno.

Unfortunately, it doesn't last long and barely any throw. BUT, if I'm having a day where I'd like to stay under the duvet where it's warm and comfy, I'd wear this. I can see what Lanolin is saying, I have a strange craving for cotton candy! :yum:

  22. I bought this for my husband and WOW. Yes, yes yes yes yes. This scent is absolutely gorgeous. On him the red musk and rosewood are front and centre with the amber and sandalwood right behind them. It's a warm, bold, feral scent, if the colour burnt orange had a scent, this would be it.

    Yum. Yum.

  23. Er... I'm sure it's my body chemistry but, anybody remember Drakkar Noir? I put this on and I was back in 7th grade, giving Drakkar Noir to my first boyfriend. Eek. No no. This was the boy that tried to kiss me in the hall in front of everyone and I ran away screaming. Not something I want to remember.

I did get leather and something slightly reminding me of pine. I'm sure it would be great on the right person but I don't want to go back to 7th grade. EVER. :ack:

  24. Boo. Hoo. Hoo. I was so excited about this. Halloween/fall is my most favourite time of year. Pumpkin pie is the most wonderful comfort food for me. Sadly, this was just too sweet and synthetic smelling for me. It reminds me of Yankee Candles - nice, because they remind me of home, but I don't want to smell like one (been living outside the US for 11 years). Dang it! The search goes on for the perfect autumnal scent that will work on me!!!
