    Dance of Death

In the imp: The musk, patch and myrrh together are very black. It's kind of amusing to mix that with the lighter iris root. You definitely get the light and the dark alternating. But it's overall really too thick for me.

    Embalming Fluid

In the imp: The tea and the lemon together are very attractive in the imp, but I can't tell if I'm going to like white musk or not. Wet: Big lemon top note. Drydown: The musk has come out to hold hands with the lemon. It's basically lemon cologne. I do like it. Dry: This has good last. The white musk choogles along the entire day. After taking a shower, still had a stripped-down version, which I also liked. Later: Here's the thing. I love lemon, but I don't love tea on my skin so much. I still like this, but am hoping that Zephyr or Moxie will be my perfect lemon.

    White Rabbit

In the imp: Thick sweet honey, zero of anything else. Apparently I'm not a honey girl. Oh well. Wet: Still quite sweet, but now more complex -- I think I'm getting tea and ginger, but I'm not liking it. The milk helps to mellow things out. Drydown: It's more interesting than I thought, but honeyed ginger isn't my thing. Actually, I think the ginger is giving me a headache. Although that could also be the black tea, or those 'clean' molecules. Dry: Saccharine sweet honey-ginger. Blergh.

    Velvet

In the imp: Um, okay. I'm getting the cocoa, but not understanding the overall concept. Wet: Peanut butter. Forget it. (Hurriedly canceling my date with Boomslang.)

    Envy

In the imp: Brings a smile to my face. Very green, but trailing a perfume. Hm. Wet: LOVE. Drydown: LOVE. Dry: LOVE, endless love. All praise to the frimping staff. Turns out I love lime just like I love lemon. Boy, that puts me in a good mood. It's a vivid green, but not at all astringent. Exuberant and fun, with lime popping up every now and then just to be amusing.

    War

In the bottle: Sour stomach acids. But after so many scents have turned sweet, I'm interested in trying something bitter. Wet: Still not understanding this. Drydown: Now a little honeysuckle, but it's mostly acid. Something is going wrong -- I wonder if that's the black spices, or the red musks? Dry: And my skin swallows it completely, except for a peppered honeysuckle glaze. Later: After some comparative sniffing, I accuse red ginger, in the bottle, with the rotten smell.

    Magdalene

In the imp: Pretty, but I have my doubts about that orchid. Wet: Extremely faint, I'm painting it on, but almost nothing there. Drydown: This is beautifully put together. Dry: It's very girly, and the orchid is too high floral for me, but it doesn't irritate me or hurt my face. Apparently I can handle other florals, when Rose holds their hand. This is a no, but I'll keep chasing the BPAL rose.

    Imp

In the imp: Sneezing! Here is where I realize that amber is the sneezing thing. I can totally see how people would find this fragrance delightful. The peach and patchouli complement each other strangely well. But amber makes me sneeze. And even apart from that, I'm just not into smelling like fruit. Even this delicate peach.

    Obatala

In the imp: Coconut pudding. A little bit foody sweet. Wet: This reminds me of something from my childhood. Comforting and pleasant. Drydown: The shea butter has a warm scent, which rounds out the sweetness of the milk and coconut. Dry: What the? Now this smells like sour milk and Silly Putty. It's making me very unhappy. Later: Put another product with shea nut butter on my skin, and learned about my mutant power to turn it into burnt plastic.

    Bluebeard

In the imp: Lots of violets! Interesting. Oh, hello Monsignor Vetiver. Okay wait, I think I don't like violets. Later: This is confirmed. All of the violet scents I find somewhat disturbing.

    Fruitcake

In the imp: A warm baked aroma, and several strong fruits. Sticky and heavy like its namesake, and therefore hurtful to my face. Apart from my personal reaction, this is a total slice of fruitcake, fresh out of the oven.

    The Queen of Hearts

In the imp: Velvety lilies, simple and too sweet for me. Also soapy in my nose. No.

    Cordelia

In the imp: Cedar, cedar, cedar, cedar and tea. Wet: O-kay! I kind of like it, and then there is something powdery sweet. A very traditional floral. I guess that's the lilac! The cedar warms it, and makes this a welcoming scent. It's still quite old-fashioned. Drydown: Disappearing. Dry: Well, I like the lemon and lilac, but that's a leetle too sweet. The cedar is quite moderate on me, once dried. And I guess musk is what makes everything stronger. It's very pretty and well-structured. It makes me think of a Gibson Girl. But it's not really me.

    Zombi

In the imp: Gorgeous. Let's see if I can wear that rose or not. Wet: Wow. The dark earth scent is so different from the other BPALs I have tried. Drydown: I half love this, and it half freaks me out. My skin is swallowing it. Dry: Waves of dark rose coming at me, it's awesome. After it dries, the sweet rose smell is damped down. Later: I worship this, and am now on the march for DIRT.

    Miskatonic University

I expected to love this, but it only served to prove that I can blow anything into burnt sugar. In the imp: For a few seconds, a little bit of sweet coffee, and then it explodes into HUGE butterscotch pudding. Wet: I actually like butterscotch pudding, but I had to wash this off. It was overpowering and ick. No woods or books for me. Later: This is -- by far -- the strongest scent in my swaps box. If you don't like foodies, this is more of a foody than anything else.

    Jabberwocky

In the imp: Straightforward and bright. Immediately thought of that 'tulgey wood.' The eucalyptus and pine are quite strong. Wet: Still bright and strong. Orange starts to come out underneath. Drydown: Burns my skin, turns it red. Yuh-oh. I have handled eucalyptus on my skin before, so that would be the pine oil. Later: I still love smelling this in the imp, so would like to try it in a scent locket.

    Belladonna

In the imp: Wow, both the fragrance and the oil color are such an intense green, it's kind of awesome. Wet: Green grass and Vicks VapoRub. Drydown: So is that eucalyptus or camphor or what? I appreciate that it is absolutely not sweet, but I'm only getting herbal cough drop. Ricola. Dry: This is milder now, but I already have a bottle of tea tree oil. And it really hangs around inside my face.

    Venice

In the imp: Well, I do love lemon. The florals are worrying. Wet: Lemon! lemonlemonlemonyay. Drydown: Here comes the rose. I like this rose. Dry: Unbelievable, but I enjoy these faint florals once the lemon has them in a chokehold. Also -- why does my skin swallow everything?!!? I need to get a locket. More also, what's up with the psychics who put the frimps in the boxes.

    The Lion

In the imp: Mild, spiced amber. Probably will turn sweet, though. Wet: Very quiet, incense-y in a warm way. Drydown: This is making me sneeze. Dry: I like the spices, but it kind of irritates my nose. I'm worried that I'm having a reaction to BPAL sandalwood. Later: Ow, ow headache and sinusache. Later later: I've realized that amber is the sneezing thing.

    Kuang Shi

In the imp: Orange, I like oranges! Mmm, mandarin. Wet: Juicy, rich, bitter oranges. <Homer Simpson gargle> Now slathering. Drydown: Disappearing. Dry: The orange is close to gone, and it's a slightly orange-y mild incense scent. Phoomph. Also, I think it's making me sneeze. After one hour, gone, except for something dusty and annoying. Sad!

    Dragon's Hide

In the imp: Sweet and interesting, I barely get any smoke. Wet: Almost a cherry alcohol smell. Drydown: Disappears. Dry: Silly sweet, not that interesting. Later: After having smelled flat cherry soda on my jacket cuffs all day, now I can find that bit of smoke in the imp. Overall, dragon's blood doesn't work for me.

    Temple of Dreams

In the imp: Very quiet, herb-y, nice. Something a little alcoholic along the sides. Wet: Lavender, rosemary, aaaaaand -- bubble gum. Drydown: This is not relaxing, it actually wakes me up. And it makes my skin smell like bubble gum. So no.

    Somnus

In the imp: Pretty lavender with a lemony tone. Wet: Totally relaxing. Lavender, lemon and rose. Drydown: An old-fashioned scent, and I really like it. And a major knock-out effect. I sleep eight hours with no waking. The scent doesn't linger on bedding. Later: Beloved Somnus. This is my favorite scent (out of 50 so far). Every time I smell it, waves of well-being wash over me. Finished my imp, working on my first bottle.
