Chaos Theory II : The Butterfly Effect

Chaos Theory CCCXXXVI This is an interesting blend, and I wish I could identify the single notes that go into it. Straight out of the bottle, it's medicinal and herbal. A whole cabinet of sharp herby bits, that smell very fresh. Then there is a resin note, just the barest bit sweet but thick and dark. It's like molasses or sap, curling through. There's almost the feel of anise to it, but I'm fairly certain it isn't that. On the far end of the drydown, there is the faintest breath of flowers. Tiny, alpine wildflowers. A curious blend indeed.

    Verdandi

Verdandi smells fruity and green. It's almost like raspberries. I can smell the leaves and apples and something slightly sweeter, like berries. It lingers, and seems more summery than spring to me. Fruit and trees warmed up by the late afternoon sun.

    Dove's Heart

I'm in the midst of a rather traumatic divorce, and through some amazing stroke of luck I bought this off a forumite. It showed up in my mail box right around the time my life flipped upside down. It's very herbal, like a great mix of herbal teas. I think I smell lavender and chamomile, but I'm not so adept at picking out single notes. There is a floral undertone to it, and I think it must be the violet scent someone mentioned in an earlier review. It's bracing but soothing. I wore it on my hands, and it stopped the horrible nightmares. It helps me sleep. I'm not a mystic sort, but I think this works. Thank you, BPAL.

    Flower Moon 2005

This one packs quite a punch for a floral blend. It's strong without being overwhelming or harsh. I love it. I can pick out the tulip, and the wildflowers. It's so spring like and lovely. I think the violets give it a subtle, mature quality. I've been shy of strong floral blends in the past because I feel too girly girl or old in them. But this one is definitely a youthful, fresh scent. It doesn't become cloying or heavy despite a bevy of flowers in that little bottle. Definitely beautiful, I am so happy with this one.

    Jester

I think this is one of my favorite berry scents. There is the sweet ripening bite of berry, tempered by the sharp tang of neroli. I think it keeps the whole from becoming too sugary or sticky. There's a plum sort of note underneath it all. This scent is very fruity without being sticky sweet.

    Laudanum

I think it is the sassafrass and nutmeg I'm smelling. It's bitter sweet and strong, so much that my nose twitches if I get too close. The medicinal tang is wearing off and I'm starting to get more of the sweetness. This scent confuses me. I can't decide what it is.

    Gaueko

The first whiff made me think "Sweet... wood?" The sweetness disappeared on my skin and I'm left with a roiling whisper of smoke, tobacco and incenses. It's very interesting, but not exactly something I want to smell like. It puts me in mind of jungle mysteries and secret ceremonies in crumbling temples.

    Iago

Vertiver doesn't play nice with my skin. It's all I can smell and sadly it's not a smell I like. Though I think I can pick up the wet leather, in flashes. Alas, the broding evil is not for my skin.

    Aizen-Myoo

This scent is so crisp, fresh and brilliant. The yuzu stands out over the background of blossoms and tea. I want my entire home to smell this good. It's springy, bright and elegant.

    Somnus

The oil smells like a bu,per crop of fresh, damp lavender. There's something playing a supportive role, like a tea or another floral that's very subtle and rounds out the scent. I fell asleep much more quickly than usual! If this pattern continues I may have to start hoarding a lifetime supply. I felt refreshed and not groggy when I woke up. Thank you Beth, for the gift of lavender sleep!

I love this blend. In the vial, it's very lime and almost herbal. The lime and jasmine are the first part of the puzzle to come up, making the scent fresh and green. The lime fades and disappears too quickly for my taste. Then the rose begins to creep up, blending with the jasmine and lotus. It still remains very fresh, like new flowers just opening up in the morning. An excellent spring time scent, I think. Very relaxing, very seductive.

    Prague

This scent does strange things. It has smelled different every single time I've tried it so far. The first time it was intensely lilly and bright. The second time it was candy sweet, like sweet tarts. The third time, it's sweet and pine-esque. The pine note is fading down and now I'm getting that sweet floral again. It's on the tip of my tongue, how this scent is associated with something I know. Very peculiar and I will keep enjoying my bottle for it's changeable notes.

    Lust

When I first sniffed this out of the bottle, I smelled smoked chocolate. I think it was the myrrh. On my skin, it started to smell of musk. Then the dreaded patchouli popped out with it's heady, almost rotten smell. Now I'm picking up sandalwood and the lovely ylang ylang. Very lovely, but alas patchouli is not for me.

    Empyreal Mist

My first impression was yellow flower buds. There's a green smell, and the feeling of fresh air. The longer I wear it, the more lemony the scent becomes. I'm not sure what the notes are, but it's very light and fresh. It's a definite morning scent.

    Bloodlust

This is crazy strong mix of patchouli, musk and vertiver. It's got this thick, heady, earthy sort of feeling. As it dries down, there is a sweeter note that seems to be the dragon's blood. I can't find the cinnamon, but vertiver goes overwhelming on my skin.

    Akuma

In the bottle it smells like the green closed bud of a flower. The neroli is the first thing, the sharp flower smell that mixes with the orange. Orange and something almost like tulips is the next stage, as the neroli settles down. Then the raspberries come out. It's a lovely fruity mix that feels warm and sunny in my mind.

This is so perfect. I could smell it before I even took the bottle out of the plastic bag or opened it up! Dang that cap was tight. Beautiful coffee scent. It has a note that is slightly bitter and rich, that reminds me of a similar note in Gluttony. I think it might be hops? Beautiful creamy, spiked coffee. After a short time, the wood comes out. Damn, you can just smell how polished and beautiful it is! I love this. Sadly, I broke out on angry red bumps. I'm terrified I might be allergic to this. Argh! I love it so much.

    Severin

This smells beautifully of tea, fresh hot black tea poured into the cup. You can pick up the hot smell of lemon slices dropped into the cup. In the background, there's something masculine and darker. (The leather perhaps?) This scent has that first strong burst, and then settles down to be very subtle and light scent. It's lovely with that citrusy note. It's so unique, I can't decide what time of day or year it would suit best. I would love to have bubble bath or soap scented with Severin.

    Chimera

Out of the vial, it has a sweet floral scent that must be the honeysuckle. It thickens to be more incense-esque. (Maybe the myrrh?) The sweetness becomes richer and spicier. Then the cinnamon begins to come out. Pow! It comes out intense, and then settles down. The blend is sweet, tingly and rich like velvet. This is one of the most beautiful scents I have ever smelled from the Lab. I definitely need a bottle of this.

    Lightning

This scent is like a giant crack of lightning and thunder, and then fades into a rainy, stormy scent. It has that electric, almost marine ozone tang to it, and the cold scent of fresh water. I'm not sure I would wear this alone. I want to experiment, layer this over some warmer, maybe floral scents. But I think it is a gorgeous creation, and smells exactly like the name.

    Veil

The first whiff is pure sandalwood. Then stron white florals - the gardenia is prominent. I get the lilac and violet strongly, and the ylang ylang is just the barest hint. I love the sandalwood in this because while it is prominent, it's not overwhelming. It balances well with the florals. The lavender acts as an herbal balance, checking the sweetness of the blooms.

    Suspiro

Oh beautiful scent! The ylang ylang and the lily is soft, and powdery sweet. The plum peeks out, a sweet fruity note. It's soft, delicate and perfection. I love this.

    Dragon's Musk

I'm not a big fan of musks, so this was a Lab surprise. While it isn't something I will wear, I'm glad for the opportunity to try it out on my nose. Bam! A strong waft of musks, heady and thick. I have wandered into the dragon's lair for certain. As it dries down, I get little hints of the spicy dragons blood. But overall, pure muskiness. Interesting, I never imagined dragons as msuky animals. But now I do!

    Burial

The first thine that hits me is the strong set of juniper. It's sharp and strong, like falling face first into an evergreen wood. After a few moments, the evergreen scent pulls back just a bit and the loamy, earthy patchouli starts to come out. I don't pick out any florals. It's very much trees and earth. A strangely sinister scent!

    Tulzscha

Mint! Glorious profusion of mints! I love it. It's peppermint and wintergreen and dry mint and sweet mint and yet more mint. As it dries down, there are wafts of cucumber and the tingle of pepper. It's beautifully balanced and cool. I want to slather this on during hot summer evenings.
