  1. I have certainly not tried all but of what I have tried Western Diamondback is head and shoulders above any of the others. I am in :P . I also have and enjoy Death Adder (it is more of a heavy scent but my skin is vetiver friendly), Green Tree Viper is a crisp and fresh mint goodness, Asp Viper (an overgenerous frimp from a great forumite) is a sweet almondy blend, and Banded Sea smells something of a more typical cologne plus snake oil to me. I am hoping to my hands on some of the other blends to try too. I will most certainly be attempting to get another WD though as I do not see anything else beating it.

  2. Thanks for the answers. I'm pretty sure that next year, as the end of the Carnaval looms, I will break into a panic and get them all... leaving time to order back ups of the ones I fall in love with :P .

I have been reading the reviews and realized that maybe an indicator of the relative popularity of the scents is the number of reviews for each. Boomslang is the undisputable winner with 141 reviews. The rest of the Snake Scale (haha, get it?) looks as follows:

    2. Saw Scaled Viper, 93 reviews

    3. Australian Copperhead, 87

    4. Death Adder, 84

5 & 6. Temple Viper and Green Tree Viper, tied at 78 reviews each

    7. Western Diamondback, 74

    8. King Cobra, 64

    9. Asp Viper, 60

    10. Coral Snake, 58

    11. Habu, 57

    12. Banded Sea-Snake, 54

    13. Cottonmouth, 52

I left out Anaconda due to its limited availability as a frimp with the Snake Pit set.

I was surprised to see Cottonmouth at the bottom, as I have read praise for it in other threads. Maybe the addition of floral notes alienate the regular resin & spice fans of Snake Oil? Or maybe looking at the number of reviews is the wrong way to gauge popularity?

So how does your personal Snake Scale compare with this one?

The problem with this scale is that it only listed the number of total reviews. 64 may have reviewed King Cobra with 30 of them being "blech, I hate it". Where as all 52 that reviewed Cottonmouth may have fallen in love. Ya know?

  3. AFAIK cilantro is when you use the leaves, and coriander is the seeds of the same plant. I thought this was interesting...

"Some people instead perceive an unpleasant "soapy" taste and/or a rank smell. This is believed to be a result of an enzyme that changes the way they taste coriander leaves, a genetic trait, but has yet to be fully researched" (from wikipedia)

So this might be why it smells like mildewed towels for me most of the time?

I have heard the same thing about broccoli...

I've heard that the reason kids don't like broccoli for the most part is that it's a strong tasting vegetable and their taste buds are sensitive. As we age, our taste buds deaden so we don't find it tastes the same. Me, I really don't love cooked broccoli. Raw is fine. And don't put cauliflower anywhere near me. Blargh.

So yes, this means I am NOT hoping for an April Fool's Scent of Cilantro, Broccoli and Cauliflower with a smidgen of over cooked cabbage....

    GAH.

OOOOHHHHH! A cilantro scent to represent St. Pat's Day would be perfect! Maybe with a boozy undertone in the background of a deep ale or lager? YUM :D :P

  4. Thanks for the reply. I checked out the links and unfortunately it seems that most are smelling the corriander in the more common scents. Corriander to me is way different than cilantro although they do come from the same plant. I am after that cilantro that no one else seems to be fond of. It looks like spooky or star might be my best bet. I am certain they are far too elusive for me though. I guess I can cross my fingers and hold my tongue just right that someday.....

    edit to add:

You are amazing with the search thing on this forum. I have a hard time with just finding a name let alone as specific as you were. Thanks!

  5. There is a small thread with discussion of tangerine & related notes here, but most of the orange discussion is going to be found in this thread.

My Butterflies and Plovers just arrived today and I have a terrible case of the flu, I can't even smell it to begin to compare it to anything else I've tried.

But as far as orange-patchouli blends, I have heard lots of people say Vixen becomes an orange-patchouli on them (even though it has orange blossom listed as a note, not orange itself).

Moxie (one of the Panacea blends) is such a delicious orange-ginger, if you find a patchouli blend you like that would be good with a shot of orange I think it would be great layered.

If you want to get some input on things that may be similar to Butterflies and Plovers, you could also post a request in the LE Equivalents thread.

Thanks for the move to the appropriate place. I did search for orange and came up with nada. I also searched patchouli but found nothing with orange. I didn't search citrus though and lo and behold....sorry.

  6. ok, I just tried this scent and while it is indeed lovely...it is very light on me and hardly sniffable unless nose to wrist. Does anyone else find an amazing likeness to snowcake from LUSH?

Or is it just me and my untrained nose?

Rewiev 432  Anyone still reading?

As this is one of those extremely popular blends my expectations were built up very very high.

It was not a disappointment but I cant say it really blew me away. People interpret it in very different ways but to me it is sugary, flowery marzipan. Not green at all and no coconut suntan lotion either. It is sweet but not cold at all. The coldness is what I miss and would have liked to get from this, if it would smell exactly the same but with added icyness. But the way it is it smells seamlessly sweet and complex, somewhere on the verge between foody and artificial.

More like than love, but still very nice. Long lasting, and it has A LOT of throw, unexpectedly. So as BPAL legends go, you should give it a try once.
