    Port-Au-Prince

Since my dad is from Haiti, I had to try this scent despite the clove. wet...almonds, like the extract. 5 minutes later...clove, strong clove and this is where it stayed for me. I had to wash it off. Too bad, I was trying something out of my element and it was a no go for me.

    Cairo

I happened to acquire a bottle of this unsniffed. Then I totally forgot that I had it, can you believe that? That is what happens when you are buying way too much bpal. Be that as it may...I love this. This will easily make it into my top ten. I dont get citrus at all. It is hard for me to pick out any single notes. It smells like my incense draw, where I have my nag champa, eygptian musk, real sandalwood, dhoop sticks, etc. It smells like the incense that is burning when you walk into an African shop. It is the incense that i have been looking for but have never found. I will have to buy a big bottle of this so that I can make it into a room scent. My hubby is going to love this.

    Haitian Lover

I had to try this scent. My dad is haitian so I really had to smell Beth's interpretation. Being that I grew up with Haitian men around, my dad and his 20 brothers, knowing this scent existed humored me. Haitian men in general wear lots of cologne and sometimes wear women's perfume to attract other women. Haitian men also are known to be great lovers, thus my dad having over 30 siblings may be proof of that. I never ventured that route so I cant confirm this accusation. So as soon as I opened the imp it instantly reminded me of Haitian men. It smelled of their sweat and cologne mixed together reminiscent of the days I would go to the reggae club and the haitian men lurking in the background. It also reminded me of the peering eyes of those men. The kind of stares that seemed to undress you (unwillingly I may add). I never wanted to date a haitian man because of their animalistic and raw sexual nature. They really know how to create sexual tension. They really know how to make you feel like a chicken leg cooked to perfection.

    Santo Domingo

I had to try this one since I am part Dominican and have lived in Santo Domingo. One day I shall return. As long as I know that BPAL delivers. I had my mom try this one first. It smelled awesome on her. The caribbean florals bloomed on her skin right before my nose. She was quite pleased with it. Maybe I should get her a bottle of this. On me it took on something more different. I smell the sweetness of the tobacco leaves. Kind of reminds me of a pomade I used to wear in my hair as a child. Eventually the florals also blossom on my skin but differently of course than my moms chemistry. As I smell I close my eyes and picture myself driving from the Santo Domingo airport as I inhale the night air and feel the warmth and the ocean breezes along the road towards the capital. As I reach my mom's home her garden overwhelms my nose. Its great to be home. Although this evokes lovely memories, I love this more on my mom. It is like it was made for her. Which is perfect since she was born and raised in Santo Domingo. Mom is lucky that every perfume she puts on make her smell so yummy, and this is no exception.

    Hexennacht (2005, 2016, 2019)

I didnt get a bottle of this but managed to get an imp from a lovely forumite. First I have to say that this is so different than any of the oils I have tried. So this has opened up a new world to me. Usually I stay away from tree scents. No reason, just fear. This smells really good. I get the medicinal quality from it. It kind of cleared my nose. I am assuming it is the forest herbs. It smells clean. I love the smokyness of it. I only have had it on for about 10 minutes. So lets see what happens later. But so far, I can kick myself for not getting a bottle. So now I am on a mission to obtain a bottle.

    Grape!

I also recommend Urd, my new fave. Grapey indeed. But you gotta like patchouli too.

    Salomé

The reason for me trying this scent was because of the Eygptian Musk....my favorite oil (before bpal obviously). So when I finally got a chance to get it, I was excited. I was quickly shot down upon first sniff. But I wanted to make sure so I still tried it on. I must say that I didnt even smell a hint of egyptian musk. Almonds was very predominant. I think I am going to have to join the Almond haters club. I love almond otherwise...but not in perfume oil. Oh well.

    O

The scent of sexual obsession, slavery to sensual pleasure, and the undercurrent of innocence defiled utterly. Amber and honey with a touch of vanilla. I guess I am one of the few that didnt get along with O. I so wanted to adore this scent, but I think the amber was too overpowering. It was creamy on my skin during the wet phase but during drydown there was too much amber. I dot get along with some amber but not in this blend. Booo!!!

    Seraglio

This was in one of the first group of imps I ever got in a sale. I am already fearful of spicy scents that include clove, but I still wanted to try it. I couldnt really pick out the clove at first...all I could smell was the almond. Wet...very similar to the bottle. Drydown a whirlwind of spices started coming to surface. It as if the different notes were competing for my attention. Although very lovely, I think I will pass this on to someone who indeed will have more love for it.

    Darkness

This one almost knocked me down when I smelled the imp. It must be the narcissus that I just cant get along with. Maybe it was the myrrh and opium fighting. who knows? I really need to find an opium scent thats more friendly to my nose.

    Empyreal Mist

I really wanted to love this one. But for some reason it smelled like laundry detergent in the vial. On my skin it just got stronger. I had to wash this one off, quickly.

    Sudha Segara

This one was very lovely in the bottle. I can smell the honey and something even more sweet underneath. Wet I get a hint of something more fruity. But after a couple of minutes it dies down...thank heavens. Dry it smells milky but almost in a sour way. I guess this is one of the few scents that doesnt work on my skin.

    Cathode

Another mint scent that I have to remove from my home at warp speed. I really cant see using this as perfume. The mint is strong and piercing much like ultraviolet. I can hardly pic out any other notes. I was afraid to put it on my skin. I am curious to see how mint scents drydown. But I what if I smelled like stale chewing gum. My fear of mint remains.

    Ultraviolet

This I got as a freebie with my first order. I just sniffed it. I knew it wouldnt work on me right away because of the mint. The mint was way overpowering with this one. Very sharp and strinking. I think it even smells thru the vial. I wish I could tolerate because I bet I am missing out on many great scents because of my fear of mint.

Nag Champa scent in a BPAL blend?

This is also my favorite incense. Strangely...I didnt sense it in Urd...I am going to have sniff it again.

    Urd

In the bottle this smells earthy with a hint of sweet. For some reason I knew I would love this so I slathered. I got patchouli right away. But as I would walk around I would get a whif of something grapey. The combination was lovely. I didnt realize that I would get along with something with grape scent. But I love it. Then I go back and read the description and no wonder it was grapey...there is muscadine in it. My husband will get a kick out of that. He has about three jars of muscadine preserves in the pantry that his mommy sends him yearly from Mississippi. This one lasted long on me...I am glad for that. I didnt get any nag champa...but I will definitely try to pick it out the next time I wear this. Nag champa incense is a staple in my home so I can definitely appreciate the use of this oil in any blend. Thumbs up.

    Cold Moon

I really loved the idea of this scent. I thought it would be awesome on my skin. It smelled lovely in the bottle. A nice crisp scent. Initially it was very lovely but soon turned sour on my skin. I hope the next several moons do better with my skin chemistry.

    The Living Flame

I am really loving this scent. It is a warm and inviting. I smell florals, but with my untrained nose I cant pick out any notes. It then turns into incense on me. I dont know which one, but it smells gorgeous. And after 11 hours this still smells good. This one is a keeper for sure.

    BPAL and pregnancy

These are great links, but I thought that Beth used Perfume oils in her blends and not essential oils. Am I confused?

    Grandmother of Ghosts

In the vial it smelled very earthy with a hint of something sweet and floral. I put it on and the woodiness jumped out. I liked it then. While wet it continued to smell nice...but then it changed and it sort of smelled like laundry detergent. I didnt like it much at that point. Now that it has dried down somewhat..it smells better, but I wish the woodiness was stronger. I agree this one morphs way too much for me. Off to swap to the swap pile.

    Dance of Death

In the bottle...A dark green scent, if that makes sense. I could smell the myrrh, but I wanted to smell the patchouli. Wet...same as the bottle. Drydown...The myrrh and orris was dominate. I can sense the patchouli trying to jump out. Hours later....this is still going strong. I attempted to wash it off, but it is persistent as death itself. My mom loved this on me, too bad I didnt feel the same way.

    Eos

In the bottle...Sharp scent. I had to pull back a little. I am guessing maybe it was the jasmine. I have an untrained nose so I cant say for certain. I wish the single notes were still around. Wet...I almost didnt put this on my skin because of the sharp smell. Once it did hit the skin it did tone down some. Still plenty of jasmine. Drydown...This transformed into something light and very beautiful. Several hours later....It still smells beautiful, even more so. I am thinking the honeysuckle really came out. It was almost a sweet smell but of course very floral. Verdict...I dont know if I want to buy a bottle yet since there are so many I have yet to try. I have an imp box to get thru, but I will definitely finish my imp.

    June Gloom 2004

The first sniff was of lemon dishwashing soap, which I really dont like at all. But I put it on anyway. It changes quickly to something more sweet but still lemony. The dishwashing soapy smell quickly leaves. As it dried down I am getting a nice sweet floral scent. The diy down is worth the wait. I guess I will take it out of the swap pile after all.

    Queen of Diamonds

I really love the crispness of this scent. It must be the grapefruit, which I adore. Underneath the citrus the florals are blooming. Awesome stuff. I really need to get my hands a bottle of this.

    Corazon

When I read the description of this I had to try it. I love mango and the blend just sounded wonderful. In the bottle the scent is just lovely. The mango jumps right out. Once on my skin, it smell great wet but as it drys I get this weird scent that I cant place. I guess I finally found one that just did weird things on my skin. Maybe it was the sage. Who knows. Hours later the scent is still going strong. Oh well. I hope other mango scents are made because I love the tropical fruits.
