    Snake Oil

OK, heresy; I'm not keen on this. Please don't hit me! It goes on as something very astringent and sour, and pretty potent. Is that what patchouli does? I absolutely hated Angel, which is the only strong patchouli scent I know. Anyway, after about an hour it settles down to a simmering incensey dark vanilla, and I can see why it's nice on some people now but it's probably not for me. My skin turns it very sour. Woe is me.

    Dragon's Blood

I just got this as a frimp in an order, which was great as it it was on my must-try list. Oh boy, was I surprised. On me, it's sweet sickly chemically floral. Shockingly strong and soooooo plastic floral. It gets softer, but not much. So disappointing for me.

    Dorian

I ried this and didn't really go mad for it first time. That might have been sulking as it smells so much better on my SO, so I'd say it's definately one of those scents a guy can pull off. It's all musk and black fragrant tea on him. I relented and gave it another go, and it smells so different on me. It's sweet and sugary on me, with only a hint of tea. It's probably the sweetest one I've tried so far, with *such * a feminine edge (I know that sounds at odds with what I wrote above but it really isn't) and a really good throw. I really like it now I've given it a second chance.

    Dana O'Shee

In the imp: Marzipan! Wet sticky marzipan. But no almond listed, so that's weird..... Wet: Amaretto and honey for me, although the SO says it smells like orange swizzle sticks to him. No idea where he's getting that!! Dry: Now it's honeyed milky goodness, with a ghost of almond and vanilla. I love it. I think I love all the milky almondy smells!

    O

In the imp: Not much really, very faint and non-descript. Wet: OK, it's better on. Honey-like, very nice, but still not getting why it's so good. Dry: NOW I get it. Wow, this is amazing. I'm getting yummy honey amber goodness, with the faintest hint of vanilla. This has a warm musky and faintly spicey feel to it. I'm coming to the conclusion that my skin adores amber and honey notes, and totally amps them in this this scent. A definate big bottle investment. It's interesting to see how this scent reacts totally differently on people; I was told if I loved Bastet I'd love this, and they weren't wrong.

    Queen Mab

Warrior, Trickster and Goddess of Magic and Poets, she is one of the Tuatha De Danaan and the Queen of the Faeries. A very complex scent, both shadowy and fierce: black orchid, sandalwood, night-blooming jasmine, osmanthus, Somalian rose, and Chinese musk. You know, I can't decide about this one. I *think* I like it. This, on me, isn't very strong. I have to sniff my wrist to catch it, and it only lasts about 4 hours, not so good. It comes across as a very dark translucent floral, layered over a shadowy ethereal musk. The musk comes forward more as it dries down. I have established that I like night blooming jasmine, black orchid and musk from other imps, but this isn't strong enough. It's a very complex and beautiful scent; I'm just still on the fence.

    Wicked

This is a very heady, strong smoky floral on me. It smells ok in the Imp, but immediately on my skin makes me want to scrub. HARD. I smell like stale old pot pourri. Ick. My chemistry hates this oil, it's sour and strong and it lasts for freakin' ages (I stuck it out for the whole day, in the hope it would improve). I am amping up a very strong floral, possibly the Jasmine. I don't have enough experience with jasmine or myrhh to know which is the problem. Rose usually loves me. Oh well. Can't win them all! Edited for spelling.

Looking for a BPAL that Resembles a Favorite Perfume

Ah, ok. Maybe I'll be brave and buy a big bottle
  9. RoseWhite

    Bastet

In the Imp: Very sweet, cakey smell. Wet: Gloriously thick honeyed almonds with a soft hint of floral-the lotus? Dry: The almond backs right off and now all I'm left with is a gorgeous amber incensey musk with a golden glow. This is the first BPAL scent I can say I adore right from the word go, it's amazing! Sensual and sophisticated without being in-your-face. I feel like Arabian sunlight wrapped itself around me.

Looking for a BPAL that Resembles a Favorite Perfume

Cottonmouth and Snake Oil itself sound great from the description and reviews, I'll defintely be adding an imp of those to my next order. Thanks Septima!

Looking for a BPAL that Resembles a Favorite Perfume

Hello! I am newly enabled to all this, and very keen to get stuck in. I was looking for a BPAL fragrance close to one of my favourite commercial perfumes, Lancome Hypnose. I did a search and it doesn't look like anyone else has already asked about it, so I hope someone with more sniffing experience here can help me The description is: A woody, oriental fragrance; passion flower combined with vanilla and a woody base note with vetiver. I don't mind having a trawl through the search function for those notes and buying a few imps (in all honesty, it's an excuse for another order!) but I thought I'd just check to see if anyone had noticed a similarity. Thanks!

    Moon Rose

In the Imp: Wet, sweet rose. A bit heady. Wet: Soft translucent rose, with a hint of some other dusky floral. Moonflower? I'm not sure, but I like it. Dry: Feminine and ethereal, it's now definately a soft beautiful floral. The rose is very sweet and dewy. It's a teensy weensy bit soapy in the dry-down, but it passes into a sort of powdery floral musk. I like this alot, it's a floral that doesn't scream GIRLY at the top of it's voice and that's a good thing.
  13. RoseWhite

    Black Lotus

In the Imp: Very sweet berries, like undiluted Ribena. Hmmm. Not sure about this. Wet: Still a little sweet, but much more understated. I'm getting a lovely smoky floral in there too. Dry: Oooo, dark smoky incense with a rich dark floral. The floral note fades out gradually with the incense dominating, but not being overpowering. I like this *alot* now. I can still smell it very faintly on my wrists after applying it yesterday, so good staying power. A keeper!

    Harlot

OK, first review, so here goes...... In the Imp: Rose Spice, like Christmas cookies and Turkish Delight. Wet: Floral! Was slightly worried by this, but it faded pretty fast and took on a muskier smell. Dry: Much more understated floral notes. A darker rose with undercurrants of spicy cinnamon, I can see why someone else used the word 'dirty' to describe it (in a good way!). It's about 3 hours in, and has settled to a background musky spice which I get subtle wafts of as I move. This is a sexy, musky, suggestive scent on me. It says Mayhem beneath the Mistletoe rather than blushing English Rose, and I'll bet it's very sultry in the summer. Thumbs up, but I'm not struck enough to want a big bottle. Edit: I've been back to this a few times now, and it's growing on me even more. I'm loving this rose, maybe enough invest in a larger bottle.
