    Jack

Jack I In the bottle: Oh wow. Now that's pumpkin. This is what I was expecting from the king. But oddly enough, yes, peach in with it as well as the strong nutmeg and clove scents. This is like a pumpkin cookie followed by a peach and, as odd as it sounds, it tastes kinda good. Wet: Um, peachy spice, which is somewhat odd and a little nauseating. The pumpkin and the peach are fighting over who gets to rule and who gets to have the spcie accentuate them. It's just a little too strong on me. I like the peach, but I perfer it lighter. and the spices are a bit much on top of a pumpkin that really pops out to meet you. Dry down: The pumpkin is taking control but there's still something in it that really bothers me. I know it's not the clove or the nutmeg as those worked fine in Pumpkin King so i'm going to blame it on the unfortunate mixture of peach and pumpkin. In fact this kinda makes me gag so I need to wash it off now. Jack 2: In the bottle: That's much better, This version has more of a buttercream frosting scent to it. It's still spiced pumpkin, but there's a nice rich vanilla type scent in it that makes it much more bearable. I don't get any peach yet, though. Wet: This is more cloves and nutmeg with a little bit of pumpkin in the background for me. The peach is light and wafts through the background rather than trying to compete for prime sniffing time. The buttery rich food smell is still there and is lovely but tempered by cloves. This kidna smells like gingerbread and, oh, hello nutmeg. Wow. Dry down: Major nutmeg with clove backing it and a little pumpkin behind it all. Again that rich buttercream type smell as well it in that makes me think of evaporated milk and pies and eggnog gushing forth in rivers of creamy goodness. This peach is almost nonexistant and tends to only lend an edge of sweetness to the blend. Again, though, this mostly reminds me of heavily spiced cookies. Not the kind of cookies I like to eat, but the kind I love to smell. Dry: A little more peach, but that buttercream spice pumpkin smell is the top note above and beyond anything else. I don't care too much for wearing the foody scents, but I do like to smell them. Beth's artistry with these just continues to amaze me even when I don't care for a particular blend.

    Pumpkin King

Pumpkin King travels vol. 2 In the bottle: Cider, cloves as well as something thick and buttery like cream. Cinnamon and, yes, apples. In the background yummy fall apples baked in the oven with cinnamon and sugar and butter. No real pumpkin scent to this, though. Wet: Oh, that smells good. Apples and spices again. The cloves and the cinnamon, but the apple smell really comes out to the front of this blend. It's really just gorgeous. Baked warm apples with dripping sugar butter. But, at the same time, there's the scent of cinnamon sticks or something that remains me of wreaths made from twigs. Um, this is a very seasonal kind of blend, but is quite nice overall. Dry down: More cinnamon sticks than anything else. Cinnamon and cloves with my precious apple faded into the background. I still don't smell any pumpkin but maybe my skin has decided to ea it all up. Yum yum. Although it does have a head apple cider smell to it. The kind my college roommate used to make. This is a very warm scent that reminds me of raking leaves and baking apples. Dry: This is almost pure cinnamon and clove on me with a ncie background of sugary apples to it. And now that I'm looking at the other reviews, yes, there is nutmeg in there as well. This is the kind of scent I love to smell, but don't want to smell like. I'm so glad i got the chance to try it out.

    Dragon's Milk

In the bottle: Very red liquid and spicey in the bottle. Not spicey like spcies but spicey like...cloves and cinnamon. A very red kind of scent all together. Wet: A somewhat kick of the red scent with, yes, just the smallest drop of cherries (the way eldritch told me that she smells dragon's blood resin). Yesterday when I tried this the vanilla bloomed out nicely. Today the spicey dragon's blood is ruling while the sweet vanilla trickles out in the throw. Of course yesterday I applied to a spot and today my wrist is glistening so it probably just need a little more time to dry. And wow, this makes my skin warm, too. Dry down: A little more of the vanilla scent now but that clove/cinnamon/cherry thing is still there. In fact, the cherry is stronger which is ew as I don't like cherry at all. I'm beginning to change my mind regarding my (almost) decision to purchase a bottle of this. This is one of those scents that makes my nose tingle. (Then again I have to take into account that it's weird skin chemistry time of the month. Mrrr.) I'm looking for a nice, warm, slightly spiced vanilla. Like vanilla chai. Yes, that's what I want. A vanilla chai like scent. Today this is just too strong with the dragon's blood resin. It doesn't smell bad. It's just strong, and it makes my nose tingle. Dry: There beneath everything else is the faintest breath of the honeyed vanilla I long for. This still smells too strong up close on my skin, but the throw is lovely even though my nose is tingling. I'll put off on ordering this so that I can give it a few more test runs and see whether I like it or whether I need to stalk a new vanilla scent.

    La Belle au Bois Dormant

In the bottle: What is that? It reminds me of something. Oh, god, I had medicine that smelled like that once. I don't know if I can put it on now. This is sickly sweet and cloying in the vial, and I don't know if it's the pear or one of the florals that's doing it. I can only hope that it calms down a little on my skin. Wet: Pear coupled with something in the background that still produces that visceral medicine reaction in me. The pear is nice, but something is lurking that makes me a little ill. I'm beginning to think it might be tuberose as I had the same reaction to another scent containing that note. The pear is very prominent, though, and this has one hell of a throw for something that sounds so light. Dry down: Um, pear. I can detect a little of the plumeria as well. I love plumeria and was so happy when Beth brought it out with this blend, but I don't know if I can handle the rest of this scent or not. Magnolias. The magnolia scent reminds me of the trees in New Orleans and the heavy, white petals. I love magnolia trees. I want one so badly. i'll have to move somewhere they can grow and fill my yard with their sleek petals like artifical snow. More of the plumeria now, which is overriding the pear. I don't like this pear scent nearly as well as I do the ones in Titania. This is kinda heavy on me. A smell like fancy dresses and big golden curls falling over closed blue eyes. The magnolia seems to be in the front here, which isn't what I was hoping for but has at least covered up the medicine smell that was making me ill. No rose in this yet. My skin is not picking up the roses recently as much as it is wont to. I'm gonna blame it on the time of the month. I may even blame the time of the month for associating this blend with medicine. Dry: I don't know. I don't like this on me right now, but I'm more than willing to blame that on my body chemistry. The plumeria and magnolia are nice. I wish there was a bit more rose, and I still think that tuberose makes me a little ill. And then I rub some of the oil onto my right wrist and the rose suddenly blooms out like it's been waiting for a ray of sunshine. My skin is oh so weird. I'm undecided about this one. I'll give it a week and then try it out again.

    White Rabbit

In the bottle: Strong black tea and honey all right. I can detect some of the other spices but not pick them out. And the vanilla is there kinda muted and lovely in the background. This might be a big bottle purchase if it stays as lovely on me. Wet: Finally a milk scent that doesn't make me think of almonds though this smells like chocolate on my wrist for some odd reason. Hm. Weird. I smell like a chocolate Easter bunny. The hollow ones. Oh, there's the tea again. Nice tea. Please stay. The chocolate smell was all right but not my fav. Lemon? Why does it have a vague lemon note...oh, maybe that's just what my nose is associating the ginger with? This isn't overly sweet, thankfully. Dry down: Tea with lemon (?) and a little bit of honey. I have Severin for my tea/lemon kick, though. Oh, wait there's a bit more of the milk. Not cloying the way I found it in Dana O'Shee and Snow White, though. Just faint and barely there. Kinda murky. And, yes, pepper. Maybe the ginger and pepper smells made the lemon on my skin and now they're separating. I kinda wish the vanilla was a little more there on my wrist than it is. Dry: I hate to say that I might have found a tea scent I don't like. Well, not so much don't like as don't like on me. It stays kinda tea and lemon (?) on me, which is nice but...not what I was hoping for. I just don't get it. I'll have to keep it around and test it again in the hopes that maybe my skin is being wonky today.

    Delirium

In the bottle: That is nice and bubbly. The lemon and the apple are both present, which gives it something of an unappealing soap scent, but I'm convinced that will fade as it becomes less concentrated and my skin amps up the rose. Wet: Fresh cut apples and lemon cleanser. Hmm...this kinda makes my nose burn with the cleaner type edge of it. I was hoping for something a little...darker, I guess. More mellow. I can make out the rose but it's hidden by the juicy apple. Thankfully, the lemon cleaner smell is fading out now. The apple is nice, and the rose seems to be a background note to everything else. For some reason this reminds me of candy, of some type of sticky pink bubblegum I had once. Dry down: This is a very light kind of scent and, yes, it is conflicted. And I am conflicted about whether or not I like it. The apples and the rose play nicely, but don't seem to belong together. It also changes from tart to sweet at a seemingly drop of a hat. And now it's back to lemon only a sweet lemon now like lemondrops. My skin is not amping up the rose nearly as much as I thought it would. But then I'm testing it on my left wrist. More than likely, it will smell completely different on my right. Silly skin. Dry: Apples. Not fresh cut and juicy anymore. More like apple incense or candles. A trapped, slightly spiced apple. More lemon. Maybe the mix of lemon and rose on my skin killed the rose. It is entirely possible as my skin will amp up lemon for awhile, too, until it pulls a stronger scent out or just gets bored. This has degenerated back to that cleaning fluid smell. The rose in the background smells artifical on my skin. Not like my roses in Persephone or Libra or Rose Red. My skin makes this whole thing smell like a cheap candle. Pity, I was so hoping to enjoy this one. It doesn't smell that bad. It just doesn't smell the way I wanted it to. I may try this again when spring or summer rolls around. Or I may just trade it to someone who will adore it. ETA: Wait. Wait. The rose is coming out a little more now. A nice rose and crisp fruit smell with an edge of tart. Better than the cleanser smell, but I still perfer Persephone.

    Endymion

Selune, the Moon Goddess, fell in love with a beautiful shepherd named Endymion. She appealed to Zeus, asking him to cast Endymion into everlasting slumber so that she could be with him for all eternity. Her wish was granted, and every night the Goddess visited her love as he slept. A sweet, wistful blend of d’Anjou pear, Lily of the Valley, bois du rose and white musk. In the bottle: Ummm...pear. With lovely florals and that white musk behind it. White musk and I are friends. I'm so glad. I was fearful that I would never be able to get along with any musk but the white is so nice. Definetly a rose tint in there. I'm not sure if bois du rose should smell like rose or not but something does. I like my roses. Wet: Very light scent of pear and...lily of the valley with the musk as a background scent. This is evocative of pale moonlight and pleasant fields and the pattern of eyelashes on a perpetually sleeping cheek. Pear is such a soft scent as is Lily of the Valley. And, thnakfully, the bois du rose is light as well so that everything is very floating. Very like a cloud. Dry down: There's a little more of the rose scent coming through. But the pear and Lily of the Valley are the most present with the musk as a background for the other scents to play on. The only problem I have with this is that it fades to next to nothing so fast. It makes sense considering who it's named for but it's sad that it seems to slip away so soon. Dry: A little musk with some floral notes. Also a hint of pear. But this fades so fast. Also it has a slightly bitter edge to it. It's nice. I just wish it would stick around a little longer. Thnakfully the 5ml I have gives me lots of time to become acquainted with everyone's favorite male sleeping beauty.

    Muse

In the bottle: I don't know what tuberose smells like and I've also never been able to pick out lotus. This should be fun. This has an background note that's kinda waxy and a little unpleasant. The lime is very much present, and we all know how much I love lime. On it goes. Wet: Very lime with that faint unpleasant smell in the background. I'm a lime freak. I'm gonna buy all the blends with lime now. Oh, jasmine. Jasmine with a kick of lime and that odd note still hovering. It's not unpleasant so much as just...I don't know. Dry down: Jasmine and the other note. My lime has forsaken me. No, there it is. The lime is in the throw now. Mmmm. This blend is very light and puzzling at the same time. Lotus. I bet it's the lotus. It smells the way the lotus flower looks, kinda heavy and white and waxy. There's stilla nice kick of jasmine to it. I love jasmine. This is lighter than both Ave Marie (my first jasmine) and Eos (the brighter Ave). It all mixes together very nicely. I don't love it. It's not a scent to be loved, tough. It's a scent to chase down avenues in the spring. It's a flower that gets caught up in the current of the stream. Dry: Lime and jasmine with most of the lotus having faded away into the background. I feel very comfortable in this scent. It's not one of the ones that bothers me, and it also doesn't capture my attention the way Boabhan Sith does. It is quite pleased with being appreciated rather than adored. It is fine with being occasionally forgotten because it's always lurking in the back of my scent box for the day when I need to feel light and unearthly. Very jasmine dry but then my skin amps up jasmine like nothing else.

    Snake Oil

In the bottle: This smells so good. Like a heavy vanilla liquor. With caramel and spices and sugar. So sweet and rich. And thick. Can I drink it? Wet: Bright gold on my wrist. Very vanilla and thick spices with still the slightly alcholic tilt to it. It smells good to me. Like the vanilla brown sugar lotion I get from Bath and Body works but with a little more spice added in. Very sweet. Dry down: My wrist is still colored gold. There's more spice to this now. The vanilla is very present in the throw, though. It's not as sweet right up on my wrist. In fact, I cannot descirbe what my wrist smells like. But the vanilla/spice throw is fabulous and then some. Still that alcohol bent to it, but still sweet in the throw. Dry: Up close this smells a lot like the inscense I don't like in things like Penitence and The Caterpillar. The throw is sweet and vanilla-scented, though, so I don't understand. These are nice spices, though. It reminds me of chai, really. A very thick, very sweet, very wrist turning gold kind of chai. With some incense that's apparent only when my nose is on my wrist. Cloves. It smells like cloves. Hmmm. I don't know about this one. I'll have to wear it some more. I think I may be an O rather than a Snake Oil girl.

    Skadi

In the bottle: Um...no, I don't know what that is, but it makes the back of my throat kinda close up when I smell it. I can detect the pine but there's something else there as well. The berries are kinda like those berry-scented air fresheners you get where the scent is just too cloying. This is probably because it's all concentrated in that little bottle. Wet: Pine. Pine. Pine. Mayday. Mayday. We have pine. I was hoping that this would not make me smell like a Christmas tree, but it does. A pretty fragrant one at that. Um, no, this is so wrong on me. Plus my body has a very visceral reaction to pine in which I consider throwing myself bodily in front of a truck. I can't help it. I've always had this reaction. The berries can be detected under the pine. In fact it smells like pine layered over this blackberry tea that my boyfriend had during sophomore year of college. Dry down: Pine and blackberry tea. None of those gorgeous snow notes I love in Ice Queen. This blend isn't bad, in fact the berry part is quite nice, but I can't get over the pine and neither can my skin. This comes in waves of either pine or blackberry, which make me sick and nostalgic respectively. Dry: Pine and blackberry still. I can't wear this as it makes me somewhat ill for unexplained reasons. The pine note worried me from the beginning. I think this might smell good on the boy and, hopefully, the pine would be bearable on him. Oh, Skadi, I had such high hopes for you. Oh well.

    Villain

In the bottle: Ah! I just sent the cap shooting off the imp like a rocket and now my work station smells of this. Thnakfully, we did not have another Embalming Fluid incident so I'm not covered in it but still. I'm getting bad at opening these. Oh no, lavender. Lavender hated me in Twilight. I can smell all the nice citrus notes as well as the musk. But lavender. *worries* Wet: Lavender. Put this on my skin and tha's the only thing I smell. It was so nice and masculine in the vial and now that it's on me it's just floral. A nice green kind of floral but still floral. Dry down: There's a bit of the nice citrus peeking out around the lavender. I can't pick out the specific notes in it at all. Also, i think the lilac is making the lavender more tame. Um, hi Mr. Lime. I love you, too, but how about we play with the other scents. Now I smell like lime juice. Everything else is fading away behind the lovely lime. Only...it smells kinda funky. Not like the crisp lime in Whitechapel, but a kind of boozey, margarita lime. Or...medicine. Lavender and I are not friends. Dry: Chalky lime scented medicine. No, really. I'm not kidding. Tums. This smells the way Tums taste. Chalky and artifical fruity. Evil skin. Evil lavender. Ugh. I just hope this smells better on the boy than it does on me. I think it's about to make me ill. My skin must really hate lavender notes because all the other kinds in this blend have never given me problems.

    Embalming Fluid

In the bottle: Take two. Places everyone and, for god's sake, don't spill it everywhere this time. This is the lovechild of Severin, The Dormouse and Wilde, which means that it's perfect. It's fresh and crisp with tea and lemon so present that it's just terribly lovely. Wet: Aloe and tea with that lemon scent backing everything up nicely. Also my favorite muck of them all: white musk is here for extra kicks. This is so nice and light. Very much with the aloe and the lemon is not nearly as overpowering as you could imagine it to be. The tea note just rises above everything else and soars. Dry down: Very much green tea and aloe, with just a hint of the musk and the lemon behind it. This is a little more confident than Dormouse, quieter than Severin and more shy than Wilde. It's beautiful and lovely and I needs it. Dry: This scent stays with you for a while as I know from my previous experience in which I almost dumped the entire imp on myself. It is a lovely scent, though, that I'm going to need more of down the road. It's so much aloe and green tea. The aloe reminds me of how we used to have aloe plants around the house. I used to love to break off pieces and get the juice all over my hands. Put this in the big bottle list, baby!

    Fae

In the bottle: The oakmoss scares me but the rest of the scent sounds brilliant. I can detect both the peach and the bergamot, which is something of an interesting combination. The peach is a more resigned scent than I had expected. This is an almost ripe peach rather than one overflowing with sweet juices. The combination of the bergamot makes it a little tart. There might be a hint of oakmoss being used as a base, but it was not the overwhelming scent I had been afraid might pour out of the vial. I cannot detect a floral note as of yet, but then I do not know quite what heliotrope smells like. Also, the musk is lying low, but in fruit blends the musk never bothers me. I have a penchant for white musk, and we get along swimmingly. Wet: Mmmm...peachy but with enough bergamot to produce a nice, tart bite. I am really not a fan of bergamot, but it works all right in this blend so far. This is mostly peach with the other notes serving for a background. The oakmoss is very faint. The heliotrope seems there merely to provide it with a very fresh, yellow kind of scent. This is summer to me. A very warm, summer kind of scent when you've been basking in the sun for hours with a good book. There's the musk. she loves to mingle with the fruit scents, and it's so nice when she does. This is a more mature version of Titania. It's stopped playing in the woods at all hours of the day and is leaning toward more intellectual persuits. Dry down: Still light and peachy. The bergamot is not at all overpowering and neither is the oakmoss. The heliotrope must be a light floral as it is not asking for much play on my wrist. We are mostly in peach and musk heaven here. This is not a favorite at first sniff the way that Titania was. This is the version that you have to get used to because she's a little stand-offish at first but you'll grow to love her in time. The bergamot provides a nice, crisp citrus note under all the peach. It keeps the whole smell fresh and from becoming too sweet. Dry: Hmmm, now it kinda smells like soap. A really nice soap, but something is giving it that kind of soap edge. Maybe the heliotrope. I'm not sure. It's still a very nice scent, but it kinda goes soap/powdery and then starts to fade away. This lacks the staying power that Titania has. It may be a little more mature, but it is also too busy to stay in one place for very long. That or my skin has decided to devour it. There's really only a very little scent when I bring my nose up close and really inhale it. And it's something of a light, breezy, yellow scent. Probably the heliotrope. Oh well. I like this well enough to be glad I have my imp, but unless it grows on me more in subsequent wearings I doubt I'd ever buy a bigger bottle.

    Dana O'Shee

In the bottle: I've had some bad experiences with honey and milk scents so I was almost on the point of not wanting to even order Dana O'Shee, and then the lab threw it in as a freebie. That does remind me of Snow White. Kinda almondy and sweet with a touch of milk behind it. Wet: Why do you smell like almonds? I do not like the smell of almonds. I do not like it, Sam I am. Sweet almond and honey smell again. This is very...it smells like some kind of candy I came across at some point in my life and did not like. I was hoping this would be more like Alice without the carnation note. It's not bad, but I'm really not liking the almond tint to the whole scent. I know this a big favorite along with Alice, but there's something about the almond/milk thing that makes me somewhat ill. Dry down: Less honey and a little more of the grains peeking out around the almonds. There's this background note that kinda smells like things burning in the back of my throat. Maybe my visceral reaction to the honey/milk scents stems from the fact that I have a slight allgeric reaction to most honeys. Of course, my dislike of the almond note that always seems somewhat present also keeps me from really enjoying this scent to the fullest. Dry: Honey and almond. I'm sure this is quite lovely on many other people. People who are capable of stomaching these scents and even enjoy them. There's still that almost burning note in the background and combined with the almond, it is not pleasant on me at all. More of the milk is coming out of the scent, but the almond and the honey hold it back. This is sweet like a toothache rather than in the fresh, fruity sweet I covet in most of the scents I most enjoy. Marzipan? Is that what this smells like. I've had some bad experiences with it. Oh, Dana, I wanted to love you, but we were not meant for each other. I'm sure you'll find a lovely home elsewhere.

    Springtime scents

I think Titania would probably be a good spring maybe even summer scent. It's floral and fruity and fun without being too cloying or overly floral. Also, The Dormouse and Baobhan Sith, but I'm a tea-scent freak.
  16. magikfanfic

    Black Phoenix

In the bottle: OMG, what is that? I've smelled it before somewhere. I have to hit the forum reviews for just a second. Licorice, but not licorice, which means that it's anise or one of those other funky bottles of spice that I never touch. Also, it smells like the generic Nightquil I had--horrid stuff that. I'm not a big fan of licorice smells, but I'm willing to try it on and hope it calms down a little. Wet: Licorice and...yes, cherries. Also some almond. And, no, none of these are scents that I put up with too well. I couldn't handle The Red Queen because of the cherries. Snow White got dumped because of the almond. It's not bad, it's just that for some reason these scents really bother me. Either they don't smell good on me or they don't smell good to me. I haven't figured out which one of those applies quite yet, though. Dry down: Candy sweet fruits with...Now, I know. It's Good and Plenties. Those little, hard licorice candies that come in pink and white. On my arm. With some cinnamon. Every smell in the world that has a tendency to bother me. Not the lab's fault. Just what I get for being sensitive to these kind od smells. Dry: Now it's died down to just the Good and Plenty scent. Hmmm, not my favorite scent in the entire world. Not at all. I'll throw this at the boy and see if he likes it. It's not the scent that's the problem, though, just the way I react to it.
  17. Well, I'm not familar with any of the scents that you listed, but I have found a number of the BPAL blends to smell like incense. I'd suggest: Penitence Cathedral The Caterpillar

    Taurus

In the bottle: God, I worry about all the moss scents. Oh well, here goes. Mmmm, actaully that smells pretty good. It has rose, sandalwood and ylang ylang in common with Libra, which I love. The deciding note will be the oakmoss. Right now I smell sandalwood and rose. Yummy yum. Wet: Very much sandalwood, but I can detect the moss in there as well. Come on, roses, show yourselves. Mmmm, there you are. That's nice. Roses and sandalwood work pretty well on my skin. Mostly sandalwood still, though, which I really don't mind at all. Hmmm, is that the ylang ylang? It's a floral, but it has a different character than my rose. Dry down: Sandalwood. The florals have kinda gone into hiding on my skin for some reason leaving me all sandalwoody. I'm sometimes allergic to it, but it's working all right for me in this blend. More of the moss is rising up, which I'm not happy about. Perhaps this would be a good room scent. I'm wondering if the floral might stay a bit truer that way. Sandalwood with some moss and no hint of a floral. Dry: Sandalwood with some more rose and ylang ylang. This reminds me of a less complex version of Libra. I might wear this when I ant to feel a little more grounded, and I'll enjoy using the imp. In the long run, though, I doubt this will trump my love for my star sign oil. A nice incense smell backed by more lovely florals.

    Zombi

Wet: Now, that's actually kinda pretty. A nice rose floral with moss in the background. Some dirt in there, too. It's a very earthy scent. It reminds me of the more incense like smells only smells more like earth than incense. The moss is starting to bother me a little, though. I have to be careful with moss as it can give me a headache. Dry down: Still rosey with the other scents mostly in the background. A much more grounded rose than some of Beth's other blends. I don't know that I'd want more of this, but I do like the bit that I have in this imp. The only problem is that something is making my eyes sting a little bit, which isn't that bad but is slightly annoying and makes me worry that there may be more adverse reactions to follow. Dry: Still very rose on me. I'm not surprised as my skin seems to find any rose scent and just exude it. This has a more earthy bite than some of the other rose blends. I like it, but it does bother my allergies a little. Probably the moss. This is a lot prettier than I had expected, epseically with some of the horror stories I've heard about it. I'll have to wear it a couple more times to be sure what I really think. For now, this is nice.

    Penitence

In the bottle: This one also scares me. I saved all the ones that scared me for last. It's kinda spicey and kinda syrupy and like nothing I would ever, ever wear. My dad's girlfriend has some franincense in the house that she oves. I avoid it. I don't like it. It just smells...resiny, maybe, to me. Like old prayer books and barns and...I don't know. It's almost too rich for me, too spicey. Wet: It's just...I don't even know. I'm so turned off by this scent that I can't even really describe it. It's not that it smells bad. It's just that it's so not me. This is clean wood and carpentry in the middle of the desert. This is pious and people kneeling and confessing and...wood. This is churches and cathedrals and yet it's also natural things and veiled, mysterious incense in the air. This is a gift to Jesus, and I kinda wish that he'd keep it. It kinda reminds me of my cedar chest, which I like the smell of, but with something else under it. Something more...incensey. Dry down: Incense and resin and wood still. Also, headache. Incense and I do not get along for a reason. Dry: Slight headache. Still a nice resin, wood kind of smell with incense underneath. I cannot wear this, but I think that either the boy or my dad's girlfriend would adore this.

    The Caterpillar

In the bottle: Carnation blends and I have a history of not getting along so this one worries me, especially since it has "heavy incense notes," which also tend to bother me. Oh well. Kinda smells like incense soap in the vial. Not bad but nothing that really strikes me as something I'd like either. Oh, no, moss. Moss and I are also enemies. Wet: Incense and moss and patchouli have all been invited to a party together...on my skin. I smell like a head shop, a term I picked up from the boy. It's not bad. It's just really not me. I've never had the desire to smell like hippies. I do not like patchouli at all. something is already giving me a headache. I'm washing this off now and letting the boy try it.

    Nine Mysteries

In the bottle: Hello Shattered. I thought I had left you at home. Only this is more peppermint and doesn't have that alcohol edge to it. This smells like that Dentyne Ice gum my dad buys occasional. They make your mouth so cold it's impossible to speak for a few seconds. Wet: Let's go to Candy Land so I can ride a peppermint stick. No, this is pretty. It's very minty with a slight floral undertone to it. Not sure what the floral is right now, but I know that violets have been mentioned in the forum reveiws. Also, good throw, which makes sense for peppermint. And very, very cold as far as the smell. That floral is staying just underneath the mint, though. Dry Down: *singing* Peppermint sticks are so much fun. Red and white and striped like no other. I could eat them all year round except that they cut my mouth to shreds. Oh, peppermint sticks are so much fun...*singing* (I actually sing a lot of little ditties in my head that somehow make it onto the screen when I type. Odd.) Mmmm, there's a little more of the floral. It might be violets. The only scent I remember violets from was Le Serpent Qui Danse and that turned into something horrible. I blame the gardenia. I will always blame gardenia for anything, though. It's a nice light floral. Only now it's accompanied by something that smells like the tea you get in good Chinese restaurants. Kinda green but there's still this fresh veil of mint over everything. Dry: Very much some kind of Oriental tea or herb in here along with the peppermint and the floral. Maybe lotus? I've had a couple of blends with lotus, but I was never able to pull that scent out as I have nothing to compare it to. Hmmm, I just don't know. The mint is upstaging everything else on my skin. It's nice, but I was hoping for a little more depth to it. I kinda feel like I could buy a little bottle of peppermint oil from the drugstore and get the same effect. Except for that lingering, haunting green note in there. Grrr. I'll just have to wait until this goes live and then see what the site description says. I do like this blend. It might be another room scent, though, as it is very chilly for me to wear.
  23. I also think that Rose Red and Tarot: The Empress smell fairly similar. Rose Red is fresher, of course, but they're both very rosey scents.
  24. Queen of Diamonds seems to be a colder version of Titania.

    Kali

In the bottle: I've been wanting to try this ever since teza told me about it so I was thrilled to find it in my package from AJ. I'm not thrilled with the fact that I just spilled it on me. One sec. A proper review does not involve spills. Well, hmm, I cannot pick out any one smell just sniffing from the bottle, but it smells damn good. Kinda foody and rich but with that floral element to it that keeps it from getting too dark. This really is much lighter than I had expected. Wet: It kinda smells like cherries, which makes no sense to me. Or maybe that's the red wine. Or the...damn, way too many choices for my poor nose. I actually cannot pick out anything. This is just a nice, kinda warm scent that has some food elements and some floral ones. I don't feel like the typical portrayal of Kali. I guess this is her on one of her better days. Dry down: This is unlike anything that I've got. It's so different from most of the scents that I've picked to either buy or keep. It's not light and breezy but more warm and earthy. (It actually makes sense for this Libra to be attracted to the light, airy scents now that I consider it.) The honey and the chocolate make this decandent. This is the perfume to wear when I go out all dressed up in my black pants and maroon shirts. This is the dark perfume to compliment all the bright ones I have. And yet it is not commanding or too strong or overpowering. It is confident and womanly. Dry: This is just so lovely and much lighter than I ever expected. I'm not sure I'd ever need a big bottle, but this imp and I are gonna be fast friends. And when she's gone, I'll just replace her. I still cannot really pick out a single note, but that doesn't bother me. This is so well blended that it transcends the notes to become something new, something rich and decandent that still has the tinest breath of floral.
