  1. ... Corrupted black plum, smoky opium and crumbling dead roses covered by a deceptive veil of Hungarian lilac, white gardenia and wild berry.

This is one of the only blends that has rose in it that has worked for me! I am also not usually much of a floral girl, but this is such a beautiful dark and spicy one, I can't help myself!
Opium, berry and a hint of the gardenia is what I get. I smell none of the lilac or rose.
This is also one that I tend to get complimented on more than any other.

  2. This is the most perfect tart and juicy pomegranate. On me it doesn't morph much at all. I imagine that this is what rubbing freshly crushed pomegranate seeds all over me would smell like, just without the red sticky mess!

And this one really lasts on my skin. Last time I wore it I put it on in the morning and could still smell it clearly about 8-9 hours later.

  3. In the bottle it was serious red musk and vetiver..which is just fine by me, I love both.

After wearing it for a bit the vetiver fades a little and the black currant comes out. This is absolutely beautiful! I do wish it lasted a little longer though. After a few hours it had faded so much that I could hardly tell I was wearing any perfume. I did put some in my locket and even that didn't seem to make it last much longer. Might try mixing with some unscented lotion and layering to see if it helps.

  4. OMG! This is sandalwood dipped in chocolate. :D

Somehow Beth took my favorite scent and my favorite food and made the most perfectly yummy and comforting scent ever. :P

I have to buy many, many more bottles because I am dying to see how this one ages!

  5. This goes almost pure almond on me, which I think is lovely. It reminds me of an ameretto cake I had once.

I really don't know how often I'd actually wear it though, so even if it was available, I don't think I'd get a big bottle. I had three imps and swapped a couple of them away. I am content with the one imp to wear on special occasions.

  6. Oh yeah, I LOVE teh Smut! I went through 4 imps of this that I had gotten in swaps, have no clue what year they were, but oh boy, they were good.

The '08 version does seem to have a much longer wear length, which is just fine with me. I bought three bottles already and will probably end up with a couple more before they disappear again.

I think I'd have to say that this one IS my favorite of all the BPALS I have tried so far. I find I wear this much more than anything else. :P

  7. Hmmm...I can't believe that I haven't reviewed this yet!

Plunder is one of my absolute favorites! :P

Spices are love. I am getting lots of cinnamon and clove and sandalwood. It lasts forever on me. Alot of people say they get chai tea, but to me, it's more like sticking your nose in a good spice rack. When I think of chai I think more of cardamom.

Anyway, I've already gone through half a bottle of this and have a second one waiting in the wings. I am tempted to get another one to age because I bet that this one is going to be even more fantastic after it sits for a while.

  8. Thankfully I did not get any hint of the wintergreen some people are getting and none of the cheap vanilla candle. Just a beautiful and very long lasting creamy vanilla, like a really good, homemade vanilla frosting with just a touch of the saffron. :P

I wore it for three days straight and couldn't stop huffing my wrist the entire time.

I am so in love with this scent, I don't regret buying 3 bottles!

  9. I love the smell of fresh roses, one of my all time favorite scents, and I keep trying, but every rose scent I have tried just turns to horribly sweet "fake" rose on my skin. Sadly, this was no exception. I was hoping the resins in this would help balance the rose out a bit. Nope. :P

All I got was rose, actually, it didn't change at all from wet to dry on me, it just ended up smelling like one of those awful rose air fresheners.

Off to my sales page in hopes that it will find a loving new home.

  10. Has anyone tried layering Lush's "Go Green", either the solid or spray with BPAL? If so, what did you try, if not, any suggestions?

Here is the description of the scent:

A citric blend of grapefruit, bergamot and neroli oils refresh while earthy vetivert calms and sweet, woodsy sandalwood oil encourages well-being. Cedar leaf, fennel and thyme oils add to the fresh, just-emerged-from-a-field aromatic bouquet.

  11. This one totally took me by suprise. I added it to an order on the spur of the moment.

    WOW! :P

I don't get any of the lavender others are talking about, but that's just fine. What I do get is lovely musk (my skin always amps musk), sandalwood and magnolia. I am not usually a big floral fan, but this is just breathtaking.

    So happy I ordered it!

  12. This works. In fact, this works better for me than any of the prescription sleep meds that I have been given over the years. I also tried TKO and TALs Nocturne, and this blew them both out of the water.

I've been using it at bedtime every night for about a month now and I am sleeping better than I have in ages.

Very strong and wonderful lavender. I don't get anything else from it.

Sadly, I knocked my bottle over so I am down to a little under half a bottle, but I will remedy that. This might be one that I will start adding a bottle of to every order.

  13. You step off of the airplane and your surrounded with this wonderful scent. It smells like fresh greens, pavement after rainstorms, tropical fruits, a hint of flowers, salt water, and warm sand.

But then, as you travel around the island, you can smell the sugar plantation, which fills the air with molasses and grass, and the coffee plantation, which smells like dirt and just brewed coffee. It's everywhere in the air, and it's just unbelievably enchanting.

Oh wow. You just brought back some vivid memories for me! I lived on Kauai for a little over 5 years, and Oahu for 3.

I am just remembering the first time I was on Kauai, which was in 1985 and the airport was nothing but a tiny building then. My parents friend met us there and gave us plumeria leis. *sigh*

If you find a good mix of oild, please let us know. I would love it!

So far though, the only one I have tried that really reminds me of the islands is Pele. I am not a very floral person, but it is beautiful.

  14. I have been wanting to try this so badly, but I have a mango allergy, so I thought it was off limits to me. :D

My best friend got a decant of it and I decided to be brave and test some on a small bit of skin. Wow! No reaction! You don't know how happy this makes me because.....it smells AMAZING!

I have had it on for almost 4 hours now and it's still going strong (from one little skin patch!). I get a very creamy, spicy incense. The cardamom, clove and almond milk are really strong on me. I am soooo happy this worked out and am so in love with this scent. :P

I am buying a bottle of it tonight!

  15. I had high hopes for this one and thankfully I was not let down in the slightest! Musk and vanilla are two of my favorite things, and luckily, my skin loves them too.

The vanilla in this reminds me of the vanilla in Black Lace. Sooo yummy! I am happy to say this did not turn into a super sweet vanilla on me. It's dead sexy. :P It had some serious staying power too. Something like, 6 hours later I could still smell it.

Must get big bottle soon! I've already used up half my imp in a couple of short days!

  16. I got the winey grape smell as soon as I opened the bottle, which had me a little worried.

On me, no grape at all. This turns to all dragons blood and musky goodness with a little of the myrrh and poppy thrown in. My skin has always seemed to love anything with musk or dragons blood. I was trying to describe it to my friend and all I could say was, "This is just a RED scent, it's just...red." :P It is so beautiful.

This is one of the two I tried and fell totally head over heels in love with yesterday. I am definitely planning on getting a second bottle before they are gone.

  17. Oh wow. :D

At first, all I could smell was cherries, but, I love cherries so that was ok. Then, after a little while, the currant really came out. I only got a faint bit of woodiness in the background, the currant was the stand out note for me.

This is one that I am definitely getting a big bottle of! :P

  18. I was so excited to try this after reading the reviews, ginger is one of my all time favorite things, to smell and to eat.

Sadly, I got NO ginger from this at all. It went straight to smelling like slightly sweetened milk and then was totally gone from my skin in about 15 minutes. :P

I'll save the imp and give it one more try in about a week.

  19. This lasted for hours and hours on me! I'd been trying to track this down so I was ecstatic when they announced that DD was getting it.

At first all I can smell is cocoa. Then the pepper and spices kick in and whoa! I am totally and completely in LOVE. :P

But..it gets even better! Oh dragon's blood and vetiver, you make me so happy.

I think this is going to become one of my absolute favorites.

  20. The embodiment of Victorian funereal elegance. A delicate sugar-spun vanilla cream cotton, stained by tobacco and incense, Indian musk, and drops of cognac.

This is just absolutely beautiful. :D

I don't get any sort of floral from it (yay), just wonderful vanilla, musky, incensey goodness. I am really looking forward to seeing how this one ages. Very thankful that I got two bottles of it!

Beth, you are simply amazing! :P

  21. Posting here because I'm a bit baffled about my sandalwood headaches...

I get headaches often from sandalwood blends, but it seems to only happen with products where the sandalwood has a soft, perfumey, almost incensey quality (Underpants, Hymn to Proserpine, B&BW Sensual Amber, and pretty much every sandalwood-scented incense stick i've ever smelled).

There are other oils where the sandalwood smells more like a chunk of wood (Anne Bonny, Fenris Wolf), and these never seem to bother me. Are these two different types of sandalwood maybe? Or is it a matter of how it interacts with other components?

I also don't get headaches from blends where I never actually smell the sandalwood (Brides of Dracula, Pannychis), so I try not to rule out trying oils just based on that note--because if I amp something else to the exclusion of the 'wood, or if it's the "woody" sandalwood and not the golden glowy kind, then it's no issue at all.

I know that there are different types of sandalwood from different regions. here is a little bit of info.

Don't know if this helps you at all though!
