  1. in the decant: super super sweet sticky cherry candy and booze

on skin: much the same. It's sticky sweet candy and sticky sweet booze. there's some licorice among the cherry now, but it's not changing a whole lot. I'm not getting any cinnamon at all.

I think this is my least favourite of all the velvets. If it was less sticky smelling I would probably like it more.

  2. In the Bottle: Jasmine and Gardenia and probably another floral note I can't name

Wet/Dry: This is a thick heavy floral blend. I think there might be some lemongrass in here also, it's got a slight citrus scent. It's not sweet. There's also a certain amount of greennes, like leaves or stems, tempering the intense floralness.

okay, after 30 minutes the Jasmine and Gardenia overpower the green note and citrusy lemongrass.

wow has this got a lot of throw, and I'm not testing on pulse points.

  3. unreleased prototype, no notes or description given

In the Bottle: This smells like The Soap Opera. Like the way the whole store smells. Just like millions of soaps and oils and smells. But it doesn't really smell soapy.

After applying to skin, this is a straight up floral. I can't discern any particular floral notes, I can't smell any rose (also, it's not making me nauseous, so there probably isn't any rose) and that's about all I can say.

  4. In the bottle: it smells very green and maybe a little metallic.

Wet and Dry: The notes are really hard to pick out in this blend. It's not a heavy metallic scent. It smells sort of green and almost herbal? I'd swear there's clary sage and probably a mint here. There is some sharpness to it, but it's not overpowering.

This actually smells like an aromatherapy blend I used get (I can't remember where from, it was like 10 years ago) ONLY THIS SMELLS SO MUCH BETTER!

no really, this smells so fantastic. I wish this was a linen spray. I mean, it's great as perfume, but this is the sort of scent I'd want my whole apartment to smell like in the spring/summer.

  5. Unreleased blend, no notes or description given

In the bottle: tangy fruits with a little bit of vanilla

Wet: Smells kind of like sweet tarts with very sharp sort of medicinal overtone. There is something that smells reminiscent of latex gloves.

Dry/15 minutes later: This now smells a lot like strawberry shortcake. It's sweet, gentle, creamy. There's a nice strawberry scent that's playing Ring Around The Rosy with a creamy vanilla cake.

This is a lovely summer scent.

    edit: spellcheck is my friend

  6. vellg-nudie.gif

    VELVET NUDIE

Skin musk and flowering sugar cane.

in the bottle: I don't know what it is, but I don't think it smells good.

wet: very feminine and pretty, floral, but only just

dry: sweet and tart and floral. soapy. a floral sweet tart soap.

  7. vellg-tiki.gif

    VELVET TIKI

Gold-washed frangipani, vanilla flower, vanilla bean, coconut, hibiscus, papaya, pineapple, bouganvilla, passion fruit, and three orchids.

in the bottle: tangy fruity citrus with a bit of tropical florals

    wet: much the same

dry: this is what the tropical island paradise of my dreams smells like. It actually smells sort of familiar for some reason. It's very floral, but I can definitely smell the passion fruit, I don't get any vanilla at all. It's not very strong and doesn't have much throw, but I don't think it's fading much.

  8. my extremely weird skin chemistry strikes again.

in the bottle: very citrus. I definitely smell the grapefruit and orange

    wet: wintergreen and dead fish.

    dry: wintergreen and dead fish.

once I put this on I don't get any the lovely citrus I was hoping for. I love the lab's grapefruit note, and it's nowhere to be found. There's no floral scent, there's no resins, there's no musk. the description and notes sounded so wonderful, I'm very disappointed this doesn't even come close to working for me.

  9. There was once a miller who was very poor, but he had a beautiful daughter. Now, it happened that he came to speak to the king, and, to give himself importance, he said to him, “I have a daughter who can spin straw into gold.”

The king said to the miller, “That is a talent that pleases me well; if she be as skilful as you say, bring her to-morrow to the palace, and I will put her to the proof.”

When the maiden was brought to him, he led her to a room full of straw, gave her a wheel and spindle, and said, “Now set to work, and if by the morrow this straw be not spun into gold, you shall die.” He locked the door, and left the maiden alone.

Spun gold, tear-soaked straw, and rose-infused amber.

in the bottle: very rose, with something that smells like baby powder, probably the amber.
wet: still very rosy smelling, but with a sharp metallic edge to it.

dry: pretty much the same as wet. rose with a metallic edge. it's very pretty

  10. In another time, long ago lived an old man and his wife. Both of them had twelve sons and three daughters. The youngest being named Egle. On a warm summer evening all three girls decided to go swimming. After splashing about with each other and bathing they climbed onto the riverbank to dress and groom their hair. But the youngest, Egle, only stared for a serpent had slithered into the sleeve of her blouse. What was she to do? The eldest girl grabbed Egle's blouse. She threw the blouse down and jumped on it, anything to get rid of the serpent. But the serpent turned to the youngest, Egle, and spoke to her in a man's voice:

Egle, promise to become my bride and I will gladly come out.

Egle began to cry how could she marry a serpent? Through her tears she answered:

Please give me back my blouse and return from whence you came, in peace.

But the serpent would not listen:

Promise to become my bride and I will gladly come out.

There was nothing else she could do; she promised the serpent to become his bride.

Ocean water, hyacinth petals, star jasmine, and fir.

I've been hoping for an aquatic that won't turn into soap on me, and I found it. This is a beautiful blend.

in the bottle: very floral. the hyacinth and star jasmine overpower all the other notes.
wet: the aquaticness and the fir come out, but the florals are still there.

dry: no soap! it's very green smelling. I can definitely smell the fir, but it plays very well off the hyacinth and jasmine. the ocean water adds a little extra tang, but is very subtle.

the longer this is on, the prettier it gets. the fir gets a bit mellower and the flowers come back with the ocean water.

  11. Personally, I prefer CCNow over PayPal. I've noticed that orders I place through CCNow seem to get processed more quickly than my PayPal orders have. At the moment, I'm waiting on the CnS for SGA, Schwarzer Mond and Lune Noir. I placed the order via PayPal a few minutes after the update went live on 7/28, but I'm seeing posts in the CnS topic from people who ordered on 7/31 and already have a CnS. Of course, it might have nothing to do with PayPal, but it's a trend that I've noticed in my orders.

I think in the future, I'll just order through CCNow and use my PayPal debit card if I want to pay with PayPal funds.

I think doing that means the Lab gets charged fees twice, unfortunately. They get charged a PayPal fee and a CCNow fee. That's why they prefer people use the PayPal comments box method if they want to pay with PayPal. Of course, you'll still get your order if you pay with PayPal via CCNow; it's just better for the Lab (and helps keep prices down for everybody!) if you don't double up the fees.

(Someone correct me if I've got the facts wrong - I'm an international customer, so I've only ever used PayPal solo.)

No, you are correct and that is why the lab states this in their site:

IF YOU ARE PAYING VIA PAYPAL, please do NOT use our online credit card processor. Place your order through PayPal using the payment address paypal [at] blackphoenixalchemylab [dot] com and fill your order info in the comments field.

but the PayPal debit card in reference is not the same as what you're referring to with the "if you are paying via paypal" instructions from the lab.

the PayPal debit card is a standard Mastercard that works the same as any other credit card or debit card. CCNow has no way of knowing that it is a PayPal debit card and that, ultimately, the funds are coming from a PayPal acct, and as a result cannot charge the lab extra fees because of it.

with the PayPal debit card you check out in CCNow the same way you would if you were using any other credit card or debit card, NOT through the PayPal payment option.

  12. in the decant: cool musky goodness

    wet: aquatic cool musk

dry: still cool aquatic musk, but theres a streak of something else in there I can't quite place. it blends in very well. green/aquatic scents usually go to soap on me, but this is still very pleasant. I love the musk. I love the coolness this blend has. This is a wonderful summer scent.

  13. ooh... this is really remarkable!

wet: lush wet flowers; rose, jasmine, honeysuckle, gardenia, and maybe magnolia?

dry: wow, this is strong. it's still a warm blend of gorgeous flowers. the jasmine in this blend has no sharpness or soapiness to it. it smells strongly of gardenia on dry down.

    :P

  14. this is really nice. it's sweet and citrusy and somehow floral at the same time. berries and citrus and flowers. I should like this, this shouldn't smell this good... but it does. it smells really, really good. I don't think this is something I could wear often, but it's sweet and fun and playful. I wouldn't mind getting some more of this.

  15. Should I go to CC or the lab for this problem?

I've gotten my order - so extremely fast I'm giddy with happiness - but the .5 ml I ordered was replaced with an imp but I still paid the .5 ml price.

email the lab, their customer service would be happy to help get this resolved for you.

  16. in the bottle: Robitussin

wet: still Robitussin, but slightly floral somehow

30 minutes later: powdery cough syrup

yeah, this smells like cough syrup. just all the way through. I thought I would like this, the reviews sounded so lovely! but all I get is nauseating powdery cough syrup.

don't think I'm going to keep this one.

  17. I wore this to work today. I think I smell fantastic! I love this scent, I must get more!

Coworker 1 said I smelled like cloves.

Coworker 2 said I smelled like vanilla.

    an hour later:

Coworker 3 said I smelled like breakfast. Like french toast and maple syrup.

  18. Ok, I am going to re-post this since my post seems to have been lost in the shuffle today.

I usually use paypal for ordering and I have read about the usual ccnow issues, but I couldn't find this one anywhere. On April 14th I ordered from the Trading Post using ccnow and my Master Card. I got a CnS from the Trading Post yesterday morning and according to that it was mailed and left LA last night at 9:44pm....BUT...according to ccnow, it is still awaiting shipment and I checked with my bank and my card has not been charged.

Has this happened to anyone else?

I was debating on if I should just wait it out a few days or if I should email Puddin. I just don't want to be totally overreacting here.

    Help?

Okay, I know I responded to this already too... but it was lost along with your post it seems.

This did happen to me with a regular Lab order. My card wasn't charged until about 2 weeks after I got the order. I wouldnt worry about it. but I'm sure if you email Puddin he'd be happy to answer your question. There may or may not be anything he can do about it.

  19. I've ALWAYS found them to take from the available Paypal balance and then it will pull the balance required from my primary funding source unless I choose something else. I've always wished that it didn't happen this way, because sometimes I want to use a CC and save my balance, but there is no way to actually choose that option.

actually, you can choose another funding source for PayPal transactions. I've done that with my credit card instead of using instant transfers from my bank when I know I'd overdraft my bank account otherwise. There's a link under the default payment option that says "More Funding Options" and if you have the credit card already in your paypal account settings, you can choose that instead of instant transfer or your paypal balance.

  20. omg, this is surreally beautiful!

in the bottle: I get the jasmine and gardenia and something kinda sharp. I don't get any rose at all.

wet: wow, that's musky and floral. it really does smell remarkably like Hell's Belle (which I loved from first sniff)

30 minutes later: creamy sugary candied violets and a hint of sexy musk.

this is truly gorgeous, I can't stop smelling myself. I can't smell any rose, jasmine, or gardenia after drydown, which is almost sad since those are my 3 favourite florals, but I find I don't miss them at all in this blend. It's such an amazing scent. 5 out of 5, and I must acquire more.

  21. in the bottle: sooo pretty! floral and fruity and made of beauty.

    wet: about the same, gorgeous.

30 minutes later: it's bright and playful. I can't stop smelling my wrist. This blend is just made of WOW! I can smell the melon and kumquat and peony and plum blossom... the fruity/floralness is just never ending, and that's okay.
