    Paduan Killer Swarm

bottle: totally creamy. hints of coconut, vanilla (probably tonka) and the ginger cream. wet: very soft and creamy, the spice is soft and rich but somehow subdued. i love scents like this, so well-blended that the different notes mingle so they are hard to distinguish singly. dry: i get a little more amber (odd, since i usually amp it) and a bit of tobacco with the softly spicy cream. yum, yum, yum.

    Lime!

schrodinger's cat is almost a lime single-note on my skin. there's lots of other scents with lime but that one is the one i most strongly associate with OMG! LIME!

    Cinnamon girl...

país de la canela isn't cinnamony on me at all! it is spicy but it doesn't burn the hell out of my skin. the one that does: jailbait! smells so good but is just cinnamon-lollipop-agony on my skin. ditto my most recent bottle of the dodo, the cassia is crazy-strong.

What do bottles and labels look like?

    yay! thanks angelicruin!
  5. hymn to proserpine is incredibly strong and long-lasting on me, probably more than any other bpal. kabuki and depraved are also up there. let's see: also satyr, the raven, goblin, a countenance forboding evil... i also second the rec's of mme. moriarty, red lantern, shattered & dorian (though in my case it needs to be aged).
  6. i kinda feel the same way. cockaigne took a while to grow on me but now i just adore it.

    Different smells/colors, same perfume

well, my current in-use bottle is from august of 2008 and it's incredibly gingery/spicy on me. cinnamon burns me horribly so i would definitely notice if it was strengthening. my blend has become stronger (i have a much younger bottle that i just gave a quick sniff to) but not cinnamon-stronger.

    Medicine, medicinal notes

wow. penny dreadful smells like spicy, dusty dirt on my skin. i was going to recommend hemlock but silvertarna beat me to it.

What do bottles and labels look like?

my bottles are like that too. though i used to have a miskatonic university label that was much more yellow. i think it's just a label batch difference.

    Kumiho

imp: tea. pretty straightforward. wet: this is bright and fresh but ultimately, it's just tea single note on my skin. not even a hint of ginger. dry: this reminds me a great deal of the dormouse, i also get something close to tea single note with that scent. perhaps i amp tea notes? (edited for spelling idiocy)

    Smokestack

imp: dark, dusty vetiver. wet: this is wonderfully spicy and warm on my skin. alongside the vetiver, this has a cozy, wood-burning fireside feel. there's even a slight sweetness, almost like fresh pine wood being added to the fire. dry: this is smoky in the best way possible. rich, warm, inviting wood burning on a warm autumn day. i feel that this would be one of the best vetiver scents to enable others with.

    German Expressionist Horror

imp: deliciously dark. black musk, pine, patchouli, myrrh... wet: this is the darkest, most resinous pine over patchouli scent ever. the black musk makes this just perfect. this is as stark as the genre it's named for. dry: this is gorgeous! so dark and rich. the notes have blended so well i'm having a difficult time separating them. i think i may need a bottle.

    Crimson Christmas

imp: the lab's blood note over it's snow note. very sweet. wet: no mint whatsoever. this is a "dirty snow" scent if i ever smelled one. the blood scent has vanished, this just smells like trampled snow. very interesting. dry: the snow note gets more cloying as this dries. this is more sharp than snow scents usually end up on me. darn.

    Peach, Peach Blossom, Apricot, Nectarines

aglaea - three golden ambers, bright musk, peach wine and myrtle. it's a beautiful peach scent, probably my favorite. some batches have a more "peachy" feel than a "peach blossom" feel, but it's definitely lighter and more innocent than tamora.

    Peach, Peach Blossom, Apricot, Nectarines

fae - White musk, bergamot, heliotrope, peach and oakmoss. it might not sound like it from the notes, but it smells just like warm peach blossoms to my nose.

Can I use BPAL to train my nose?

very true. as for me: ultraviolet is not very strong violet on my skin. the raven however: such a beautiful, strong violet. i found that when i was trying to track down a note, i'd gather a few blends and test them in succession to narrow down the scent of a specific note.

Can I use BPAL to train my nose?

i thin by simple blend you mean a blend with only a few notes? you might start off with carnal or depraved (only two notes each) and then move on to something kabuki (three notes). it's tough to recommend something without a good idea of what you like, but those are some of my (simple) favorites. my personal favorite bpal of all time (i think it's even my favorite perfume of all time) is imp and it only has four notes.

    Pronouncing "BPAL" and scent names!

you and me both. i'm always certain i'm pronouncing it incorrectly but that's precisely how i think of it too!
