Chaos Theory IV: Edge of Chaos

DCCCLX (860) Wet: Fruit punch mixed with spices. Kind of like... an Autumn-appropriate fruit punch? Dry: Pretty much the same as the wet stage, only I can smell the addition of lemon now. The description sounds.. probably terrible, but I actually really enjoy this!

Chaos Theory IV: Edge of Chaos

XCVII (97) Wet: Lemon Pledge and candy. VERY strong on the lemon! Dry: The astringent note giving me the Pledge vibe has dissipated. It's very much a candied lemon scent, with some type of tropical floral note. I'm a big fan!

    Chaos Theory V: Recursive Self-Similarity v1

Dorian X(10) - Wet: Vanilla, and something woodish.. oak, maybe? (It's definitely not my nemesis, cedar.) Dorian is lingering in the background. Dry: This has become Dorian, with extra vanilla. There's some depth that I think the (supposed) oak note is adding. It is... glorious.

    Cheshire Moon

Wet: Candied cherry blossom. I'm not sure what's making the "candy" scent, but I think it may be the guava + pink grapefruit. Dry: Not candied anymore! Still cherry blossom, but it's much fainter now. I can smell lemongrass and grapefruit, but they're more background scents. If you're looking for a cherry blossom scent to try (and are afraid of most florals the way I am), give this a shot! I think it's worth tracking down a decant.

    Cheshire Cat

How the heck have I not reviewed this?! Wet: GRAPEFRUIT. The grapefruit is strong, and lets you know it's there without any doubts. There's a little bit of sharp lavender in the background. Dry: Grapefruit is still the main note. The lavender is still there, but it's much softer now. I think I'm getting just a hint of chamomile as well. This is one of my favorite summer blends. If you like grapefruit and your skin doesn't eat it up, give this a try!

    Candy Phoenix

Wet: Musky pomegranate candy. Dry: A stronger version of the wet stage, with an addition of pear! So... musky pomegranate-pear candy.

    Butter Rum Cookie

Wet: Cookies, rum, sugar, and... more rum! Dry: The orange rind and almond have both come out, and the rum has died down some. I'd say this is a lightly citrus-almond cookies, with a splash of rum scent. Almond is a note that works pretty well for me, and it's freaking glorious here. I want to eat this.

    Boo

2012 version! Wet: Vanilla cream.. with extra sugar! Dry: I know cake isn't a listed note... but this is buttery vanilla cake, with vanilla cream on top, sitting on top of clean linens. The cotton/linen smell is fairly light; the buttery cake scent is definitely more prominent. Delicious.

    Blue Phoenix v2

Wet: Blueberries! Something smells "thick" about it though.. maybe like a blueberry jam? Dry: Still reading as a blueberry jam, but with a little more depth. There's some type of spice note in here as well, but I'm not sure what. Cinnamon, maybe? Whatever it is, it's very faint. Vanilla has made an appearance as well. It's reading more as a foodie scent to me, so I'm thinking the vanilla may be more of a cream/milk type of note. Basically.. barely spiced blueberry jam, and some vanilla cream. Love love love.

    Blue Fire

Wet: A fizzy blueberry alcoholic beverage. Very strong on the gin! Dry: This is a rare blend where I can smell EVERYTHING on the drydown. Papaya, lemongrass, blueberry, and gin are all present. The fizzyness from the wet stage isn't as prominent, but it's still there as well. The papaya and lemongrass are the strongest notes, followed by blueberry, and then gin. Basically.. smells like a well-mixed fruity alcoholic beverage. Perfect for summer! Just don't wear it to work.

    Kumiho

Wet: A very light white tea. Borderline floral-scented. Dry: Unfortunately even lighter than the wet stage, though the ginger has come out! White tea with a touch of ginger. A bit too light for me to wear on my skin, but I may end up turning this into a spray for a room scent.

    The Scepter of the Empress

Wet: Bright mandarin and amber, with a little oudh. (Disclaimer: Oudh is one of those notes that doesn't always work well on my skin, so I'm hoping it stays more in the background.) Dry: As I feared, the oudh has taken over and kicked out any type of citrus scent. All that remains now is the amber oudh, which is borderline powdery. While it's not bad by any means, it's not really for me. I wish the mandarin would have stuck around longer!

    The Queen of Love

Wet: Rose and honey. There's an overall muskiness to the blend as well. Dry: The honey has sweetened up a bit, and it's the more dominant note over the rose. (The rose hasn't gone soapy, at all, which I'm usually worried about.) Still an overall muskiness going on, and I dig it. One of the nicer BPAL rose blends I've tried!

    Like a Girl

Wet: Warm vanilla-sandalwood skin musk. If there's any frankincense, it's very very light. Dry: My skin pretty much ate this. It's still the same kind of scent as the wet stage, just very faint now. I'll hold on to my decant to see how it ages, and edit this post if it changes.

    Kari

Wet: Dandelion sap is standing out, with a little champaca blossom as well. The champaca blossom is coming off borderline soapy to me. Dry: Champaca blossom took over! Nothing soapy about this anymore, but it is very "clean" smelling. Dandelion sap is still around, and there's now a faint touch of pear. (Nothing prominent about the pear, at all, though. You'd really have to look for it to find it.) I like it! I'll enjoy my decant, but I don't think I'll upgrade to a big bottle.

    Port-Au-Prince

Wet: Buttery rum, with a little extra rum, and some almond. And a side of rum. Dry: Rum, almond, and clove. The imp I tested was fresh from the lab. I have many other imps of this that are well aged, and to me it's MUCH better that way. The clove (on my skin, at least) doesn't hang out in the aged version. For that alone, well aged PAP > fresh PAP.

    Croquet

We have some trouble managing our flamingos, too. Pink lime, pink grapefruit, white nectarine, wild rose, sage, woody patchouli, bergamot, and ornery hedgehog musk. Wet: Pink! Lots of pink grapefruit, with some rose popping up as well. Sugary sweet, and somehow clean smelling. Dry: Nothing citrus, or fruity remains. This is a lightly sweet rose scent now. While it's not bad by any means, it's not what I was expecting(or wanting!) for the drydown.

    Burial

Wet: Very, very lightly dirt smelling. I had to apply a lot of this to get a good whiff, and I'm still struggling! Dry: Lightly dirt, and lightly rose smelling. Not bad, not great. A bit too light for me to get a good read on it, but at least the floral note(that I'm assuming is rose) didn't go soapy or anything.

    Depraved

Wet: Guhhh. No. Dark patchouli and something astringently-herbal-woody smelling. Not getting any apricot, at all. Dry: No no no no. Not a scent for me. Waaay too deep and dark smelling for me to enjoy. (As much as I hate to say it, it's borderline nauseating as well.) Where the heck is the apricot?!

    Matthew 18:10

Wet: Very warm sandalwood and strawberry. The strawberry isn't overly sweet or candy-like at all; I would say it's more like a strawberry that's been sitting outside on a hot day. Dry: Disappointing; the strawberry is gone, and it's basically just a warm sandalwood scent now. I'll hold on to the decant to see how it ages, but won't be upgrading to a bottle purchase.

    Job 31:32

Wet: Almond and hazelnut! They're about 50/50 right now, neither is standing out more than the other. Dry: In the battle of almond and hazelnut.. hazelnut won! There's definitely something reminiscent of Turkish delight I'm smelling, but it's faint. I'd say it's a hazelnut Turkish delight, heavy on the hazelnut. It's nice, but I think I'll be fine with just the decant.

    Exodus 22:21

Wet: Myrrh and blackberry bubblegum. ....? Dry: Pretty similar to the wet stage. Blackberry usually doesn't read as "bubblegum" to me, so maybe it's a combination of the blackberry + red currant that's doing it? Either way, this is still reading as an odd blackberry bubblegum scent to me. Not necessarily a sweet bubblegum.. but still bubblegum. Does that make sense? No? Yeah, it doesn't to me either. Definitely an interesting scent worth trying out, though!

    Ezekiel 16:49

Wet: Well. I think my nose is broken. This is smelling like musky cedar? Is there cedar in here? Dry: Yep. I don't know why, but there's something in here that's reading as cedar to my nose. Since cedar is one of my least favorite notes, ever, this just isn't working for me.

    Mary Shelley

Wet: Ozone and absinthe. Fairly light on the skin. Dry: The absinthe is very sharp now, and I'm not too fond of it. Ozone has mostly died off. Almost like an absinthe cologne? Not a scent for me.

    Twinkle, Twinkle Little Bat

Wet: Melon! Honeydew, to be precise. Dry: Very, very light honeydew and some mint. Like... 95% honeydew. Throw is pretty weak now. It's a great scent for summer, I just wish it had greater throw.
