    The Raven

It's really clean on me. A very clean floral. Nice. This would be a great work scent for me.

    Anne Bonny

It is a nice scent, but doesn't remind me of pirates, it reminds me more of hippies in a church. The notes all go good together, but in my college days I used so much of the notes in it either alone or together, that I am looking for something different and this isn't it. Recommended for those who love patchouli, but not Hello Patchouli! since the other notes blend with the patchouli nicely.

    Hunter Moon 2004

Ooh, here comes that note I don't like. The kinda hot sassafras on the sidewalk note included in many of BPAL's voodoo blends. Icky. Yea, that is gone in minutes, replaced by a feral tone. Ok, now it smells like weeds...ok, I tried. This oil doesn't love me at all. It's ok, but not one of my favorite moons by far. It is a bit stinky on me, like Harvest Moon, but in a different way. It has to be something herbal in it that I don't like in any oil that the note is in.

    Frost Moon

The chill, crystal-bright Full Moon that is harbinger to the death of the year, and a monument to the snowy, dead months to come. A blend of traditional lunar oils frozen with winter mints, shivering eucalyptus, clear lotus, a gust of wind, and a midnight aquatic note. Icy peppermint thrill! Not as wonderful to me as Skadi or Ice Queen, but Frost Moon packs some winter punch. The mint folds back to reveal a nice base of herbal and chilly flowers. I would stick with Ice Queen, because it is my favorite of the winter blends, but think Frost Moon is my 3rd favorite of the moons, Red and Blue being my favorites.

    Red Moon 2004

This is my favorite moon after Blue Moon. It is sweet, but not overpowering. It smells like fresh berries on a harvest breeze accompanied by orange spice, then something more. I assume this is the amber/dragon's blood combo and it all balances for a wonderful reflection of the end of summer. Great for a Leo like me even though the moon falls on the cusp. Highly recommended by me. If I was actually able to buy bottles of this, it would be in my top 22, easily.

    Black Annis

Much like Laudanum, this went weirdly root beer on me. Not licorice but a more sickly sweet root beer, like fake root beer scent. Combined with civet and oakmoss, it is just to clashy for me. It reminds me of some of the Voodoo Blends, high on the sassafras note. Again, it smells like I put two clashing perfumes on thinking they would smell great, but they don't. There is just too much going on and no harmony on my skin. Yipes.

    Succubus

Smells like spicy orange herbal tea on me. It might be a bit too tropical for my tastes. I am hoping the clove comes out more as I wear it.

    Lex Talionis

It's weird. I don't like regular myrrh in oils but this dark myrrh is nice. I can really smell the spices in this and I love the peppery scent of it. I was going to review and swap this, but I think I may have to rethink it.

    Laudanum

I have found out time and time again, I don't really like myrrh or sassafras in my oils. This oil leaves an overbearing root berry honey scent on my skin for about an hour. Then the nutmeg comes up and it is honey-root beer-nutmeg...and on my skin, these three fight for dominance and do not get along whatsoever. It is like I put on three clashing perfumes on my wrist. It is too much for me. Off to swaps it runs.

    Scorpio

Reminds me a bit of Sacred Whore of Babylon, which I have, so that is nice since this one is discontinued. Scorpio is my moon sign and I often feel more Scorpio than Leo. I like the night and winter, I don't like summer and the day...I am not the cheerleader type, I am more the quiet mysterious type. That said, this is thick, heady and mysterious. Like Sacred Whore, it seems to have a delightful sultry flower base with a little spiciness. I like it. I will trade the imp because I believe the discontinued imps should be sampled by a lot of people.

    CCNow or PayPal

I like Paypal, so I use it. It is a nice way to keep my purchases altogether. Nice to know it saves the Lab money too. So that is two advantages Paypal has over CCNow. Plus, you can pay from the money you have on there or by credit card. Maybe they should just install a Paypal cart and get rid of CCNow. I have known people that have had lot of problems with other businesses that are on CCNow so I don't trust it.

    Hellcat

It's giving me that Jack feeling...run away! Seriously too sweet for me. It would put a diabetic into a coma. Swapping!

    Szepasszony

One of the best icy scents I have tried, right up there with Ice Queen. BRRRRRRR!!!!!
  14. surf-tormented

    Bastet

It was a bit disappointing. The ambers didn't last long and none of the other notes came up on me, except the almond, which hates my skin...I do like The Lion a lot more than this one. Swap it is...

    Chiroptera

Wow! Lemon Pledge...kinda gross, but deadly strong. Ooh, lemon and rose... This isn't agree with me at all. HELP!

    Corazon

I tried Corazon and it was an unique experience. It smelled like fruit and fur on me. It reminded me a little of Cerebus in that respect. The two had different notes but conjured up the feeling of a creature, be it donkey or dog. It didn't last very long on me. It tended to blend more at the end and smell more like a perfume and less than a donkey eating mangos, but it isn't something I would wear very often. I like that "fur" smell though. If it was a bit stronger, I would go for it.

    Lust

The darkest oil I have seen made by BPAL. It smells good but it smells like every other ylang ylang/myrrh oil I have tried. It is worth a wear or two. Not bottleworthy though. I did like that the jasmine stayed to the bottom of this...so did the patchouli...I got a ylang ylang myrrh oil with a hint of the jasmine patchouli lurking in the background. I think Lust could be worn to the office without people sniffing you. It is quite docile for its name. I get the idea that the average woman (and probably man) would love this. I just have a ton of stuff like it and though it was me a few years back, I have become more adventuresome with perfumes and left them behind.

    Gluttony

This one smelled decent in the vial. Though any buttery oil tends to turn me off, I tried this one any way. Just a tiny bit. It smells like burnt coffee on my skin. Like some fab creamy dessert coffee someone left on the burner too long. But dammit, I still want to taste that coffee. This one is strong, I can smell it from across the room, imp closed!

    Storm Moon

This is intensely fabric softener/air freshener in the bottle. So much so I was going to sell it without even trying it. I know the difference between the smell before a storm and a laundry room and this one smells like the later. But I was curious. On my wrist, it seems like I rubbed a dryer sheet on my wrist, strong and clean clothes smelling, but not something I want as a perfume and it doesn't remind me of a storm at all. For me, a storm scent has more elements to it. Not just fresh with a touch of lemon, but a strange tarry smell that comes up from roads, a little bit of dirt and grass smell that comes right as the rain starts to sprinkle. I do get what lorajc is saying about the smokiness of it. It smells a bit like a fire near a body of water of some kind. I can't really say ocean because it isn't that salty, maybe a fresh water lake with sweet flowers near it. I hope that smokiness builds. I like smoky scents and thought it wasn't what I was expecting, it could be a keeper if it is mult-layered resulting in a dark yet rainy scent. But it seems it doesn't what to evolve much past the laundry room intense smell I am getting. Come on, smoky! BPAL's ozone oils tend to smell lemony on my skin. It isn't a smell I associate with storms, so they are hard to get used to. Maybe this will win me over, but to me, it smells a bit like Thunderbird. Thunderbird didn't win me over, so I doubt this one will. Thunderstorms are so engrained in my memory that only the real thing seems to do. It is hard to put in a bottle. Once I do find it, it will take me back to days in the country. Sigh. I was looking so forward to buying the Moons. But I didn't enjoy Wolf Moon very much and this is ok, but just ok. Bummer. I was hoping for something darker.

    Loviatar

The Finnish Goddess of Agony, Torment and the joy found in inflicting pain on others. The Mistress of Torture, she has transformed in the modern era into the patron Goddess of Dominatrixes. The slap of slick, hot leather punctuates the warm, sensual embrace of black amber, red musk and dark, lascivious myrrh. I didn't think of even trying this but someone had an offer I couldn't refuse and I am pretty much addicted to Goth Rosary's Wicked which I bought because I am waiting for my BPAL order of De Sade to arrive. Loviatar is great! It is like De Sade but it has a spicy kick that tingles my nose when I sniff it as it is first put on. I love it! It makes my head full of lovely nasty thoughts! I am also going to be exploring both Iago and Dragon's Hide...leather, leather, leather! I love leather scents! It is amazing how spicy this oil is since I don't see any spices notes listed. My skin normally can't do myrrh, Anubis for one was not kind to me, but this is truly special. I'll wear it when De Sade might be a bit much, Loviatar is the femme version of De Sade, no doubts about that! Not only did this oil jump into my top 22, but also into my signature. An amazing feat!

    Wildfire

It smells like spicy dragon's blood on my skin. I am so glad the rose stays to the back on my skin. It isn't overpowering (too bad!) but a nice scent overall. I would think it would be good to wear to the office because it isn't strong or too offensive, but still unique. It doesn't last more than a couple hours on me. I am happy to say it doesn't turn to powder on me, just into a very very faint dragon's blood scent. I was thinking this would be more like Djinn with a fire base. I was wrong. It is full of life, herbal and spice with just a wee hint of floral.

    Baba Yaga

Smells strangely peaceful and comforting to me. Like a warm embrace. It has a very slight yet attractive spice tone to it, like smelling burning spices from yards away. Reminds me a bit of Coyote, but without the strong musk, more the notes of straw and desert. Then I get a little bit of water, like a bitter tear and she is gone. Interesting, not bottle worthy, but I would like to share the scent with others. I got NO pineapple from this at all...just a slight spicy fruit undertone, like cider or maybe Lampades type fruit. I did get a pepper tone as well.

    Eris

Eris, you fruity yet animaly chaos goddess! First you hit me with fruit then with musk, then fruit. I do not know your true nature. Once I think you have gone fruit, the beast comes out. A fun oil, but not for me, I hate having fun. Jokes aside, I think the whole meat/fruit thing isn't my style.
  24. surf-tormented

    Oisin

It's fruity, it's musky, it's Oisin. Wow, it didn't impress me at all. It did smell good, but fruity musks just aren't my bag baby. I also tried Eris and the same thing. For some reason fruits and certain musks clash under my nose. Back to the drawingboard.

Autumn Scents - recommend the ones you love

Can I get a sample of Death from you? :0 I'll PM you! I find Samhain and Can't Wait Demeter to be super autumny, but they are Goth Rosary scents. Let's see...La Bella Donna Della Mia Mente has a breezy fall vibe to it, again let me PM you! To me, The Hesperides reminds me of fall apple harvests in Michigan and Hamadryad reminds me of the smell of a forest in the fall. Three Witches gives me a strong cider feeling. And for some whacked out reason, both Dracul and Blood remind me of autumn, but I can't say exactly why...maybe those scents bring up some kind of fall childhood memories.
