i received an imp with a forum purchase, so i think this might be a bit aged. imp: almonds. this smells like the liquid almond stuff we (= in germany) use in bakery. wet on skin: when i dabbed it on, it smelled like almonds, then i get marzipan. yummy! drydown: still marzipan, marzipan is made from almonds, so this fits the bill. the scent isn´t overly complex, but very comforting & nice. though it´s foody, it doesn´t make me hungry which is always a good thing i would classify it as girly & cozy. result: i can see myself wearing this when i want something comforting, especially in cold weather.
  2. i just wanted to give a little feedback: today i received a decant of wulric ( i also already wrote a review about it). it´s a wonderful scent though i only a get the chocolate (a dark one that smells fantastic in combinaton w/ the lavender) at the beginning. now, after about 5 hours (has incredible lasting power), it´s a great vanilla scent that still morphs a bit. if you like chocolate & vanilla, you should give it try! moreover, it´s not foody at all - i think thats due to the lavender, even if it doesn´t play a big role (i smelled it only at the beginning). i´ve also a bottle of the tell-tale heart on the way, so i´l report back when i received & tried it!

    Wulric, the Wolfman (2006)

i was so looking forward to testing wulric, bu at the same time worried i wouldn´t like it. lavender & chocolate - that sounded like a very strange mix to me imp: i definately smell the lavender, but the chocolate is there as well. wet on skin: the first thing i get is the lavender. i like lavender, but i don´t have any perfume that contains a big dose of it. somehow it strikes me as too masculine, i guess. the chocolate - a dark one - is there, too, but it doesn´t mix with the lavender for the first minute or so. both stand side by side, or no: the lavender stands in front, the chocolate is one step behind. then both start to mix... drydown: the chocolate got stronger than the lavender, then both start to mix again, creating an almost powdery effect, but there´s a bit of sharpness underneath. after a while, this dries down to a vanilla scent. it took me a while to realize that it´s really vanilla i smell. a lovely one it reminds me a bit of vanilla exquise by annick goutal, but without the sharpness. result: i really, really like it! it will take me more testing to say if it´s love & if i need a bottle, but it´s definately a wonderful blend
  4. parrot_suspect, today, my lacob´s ladder 05 was in the mail i already own jacob´s ladder 06 which i like, but don´t find ambery enough. i didn´t have the time to test the 05 version, but from the bottle it smells "fuller" than 06 - might be due to aging as well. i´m already in love with snake oil & i´ve also a bottle of scherezade, but i´m not sure what to think about it. very musky, not bad, but...oh well, needs further testing, i guess. temple viper was awful on me - sickly sweet, i didn´t get any frankincense at all, only sugar cane. Fishwomon, i´m waiting for a decant of the lurid library to arrive. i´ve high hopes in that one & your description tempted me even more!
  5. tartchef now i´m awaiting your package(s) even more!
  6. thank you for your recommendations ! cranberry, i put al-azif on my wishlist! imps of shub & tezcatlipoca are already on the way to me, so i should be able to test them pretty soon. portalkat, i didn´t pay enough attention to all souls, it seems. now it´s on my wishlist as well!
  7. i would like to *bump* this up i´m in need of a incense that isn´t too strong. i´m catholic & strong incense blends remind me too much of my childhood when - for a while - i was more or less forced to go to church...once i fainted - this happened to quite a few people in our church - because of the strong incense smell... the incense blend i´m searching for should be: an incense/resin blend without fruits or florals. but it should have a sweet quality. does something like this exists?

    Sleepytime BPAL

pinkpepper, thank you i immediately felt a little bit better, knowing that i´m not the only one with such a problem! mystery213, unfortunately, i can´t drink chamomile tee, because it reminds me so much of the long time i spent in hospital. i cannot tell exactly when i started to sleep that bad. when i was a kid, i can´t remember having that problem. my sleep was always pretty light, but not like it is now. when i read books, i think, i concentrate too much on the story & i tend to dream about it. but i know lots of people who told me taht it helps them to get ired when they read. sometimes it helps me to fall asleep when i watch television (though i read that you shouldn´t do it when you want to get tired). taking a bath helped for a while, but now it doesn´t anymore. i just read the reviews about TKO & it sounds like something i should really give a try! if it at least calms me down a bit, i´d apreciate it! lilirose, thank you for the links! nocturne sounds great & - like a mentioned above - TKO, too. i´m still reading the somnium reviews, but i think some of them sound promising as well!

    Sleepytime BPAL

hi all, i´m almost pretty sure that there must be a thread about this, but i couldn´t find it! i have the following problem for many years: i cannot sleep well. there are too many thoughts in my head. i don´t worry about something, i just can´t calm down & fall asleep, even if i´m tired. when i go to bed & lay down, i seem to get even more awake. it´s like i have too much energy... this is driving me mad!
  10. hi all, you might already suggest by reading the topic title that my search is a bit complicated... i´m searching for something that is pretty hard to describe: a BPAL scent that evokes the smell (or how i imagine it) of dark polished mahogany. it should have depth, but a rich, sweet (not cloying) edge. like a good aged red wine, nothing sour, just a feeling of something very precious. oh well, maybe i´m asking too much & you have no clue what i´m talking about but i cannot put it better. ...i´d be very happy if you could recommend me a blend that comes near to the picture/the smell i have on my mind. lupelele

Looking for a mahogany - scent

i added both monsterbait: ventriloquist dummy & pulcinella & teresina to my list & i already found a decant of the latter. kenjari, i really hope pulcinella & teresina will work as good as it does for you & i wo´t get a lot of rose from this one! proginoskes, i nver paid much attention to monsterbait: ventriloquist dummy, but the notes seem to be very intertesting, indeed. time to find a decant of that one as well...

    Aglaea

i already knew that i´ll smell mostly the peaches because my skin amps up fruits. imp: smells very fruity, peachy & bright. wet on skin: yes, peaches, juicy, ripe ones. i don´t like very fruity scents, but this one is nice, though. drydown: i still get a lot of peach, but i most admit that i enjoy it. the peaches aren´t overwhelming, i think the amber (though i don´t really smell it) tames them a bit. this lasts very well, so it´s not very intense, just right. now (after about 4 hours) i can finally smell a bit of amber. it´s a very round, soft amber that goes very well with the peaches. result: at the moment i don´t find it to be full bottle worthy, but i got one imp with my first order & i´ve another imp on the way to me, so i won´t run out of this stuff very soon. it´s great for autumn wear!

Looking for a mahogany - scent

yeah, i absolutely get that chocolate vibe as well i added your cedar suggestions to my looooong wish list! by the way, you like the lurid library, don´t you (i read your review)? it sounds like it´s right up my alley, though it doesn´t seem to be mahogany-like.
  14. yesterday i tested red lantern 06 & i got compliments about it smelling really great & sexy...well, i sure thought the same

Looking for a mahogany - scent

thank you for your recommendations i´m already searching for a decant of the forbidding foyer on the sales/search forum. this one sounds wonderful.up to now i had completely overlooked the haunted house scents - shame on me the red queen seems like a must-try, too, though i´m a bit worried about the cherries being too heavy - but i should definitely give it a try, though! i put crowely on my list, too, hopefully i won´t get too much lemon. my skin amps up fruits & most flowers & that isn´t always a pleasure...masculine scents don´t scare me at all. not every one of them works for me (e.g. i loathe the "aftershave" note some of them have), but i already have some masculine/unisex non-BPAL scents in my collection that i adore. ivyandpeony, the king might work better on me than the queen, less sweet sounds better too me (i like sweet, but i´m picky when it comes to sweet scents ). sarada, though i like vetiver in some blends (sometimes it can have an almost chocolate-y - not foody but dark - smell which i love), cedar (or even rosewood) evoke for me the smell of mahogany. both notes don´t always work for me, but i think of them as having some "bite" without being too heavy or dark.

    Red Lantern

this review is for the 06 version: my bottle arrived yesterday & - as i bought it unsniffed - i was a bit worried i wouldn´t like it. but...it smells exactly how i imagined it would in the bottle: it smells rather intimidating: rather strong tabacco with caramel & a faint coconut note. wet on skin: for one second it smells exactly like in the bottle, but then it morphs into something odd: spiced soap with a tobacco undertone i´m worrying i´ll be disappointed...but i´ll be strong & wait how it dries down! dry on skin: *wow* that´s so much better: it smells wonderful - the coconut finds its way out of the tobacco smoke! it´s a dry coconut, not foody at all, but rather smoky. it´s now surrounded by the tobacco. after a while, the caramel note gets stronger, but it never overpowers the other notes. it´s such a gorgeous blend! it has a lot of sillage: i just applied a tiny drop, but i feel like wrapped in a cloud of caramel/coconut/tobacco for the whole day. so lovely & i got compliments from two men saying me that i smell delicious & sexy
  17. thank you for your recs ! i already have the tell-tale heart on my " hard-to-find-LE-wishlist ". at the moment it seems impossible to get a hold on it, but perhaps i´ll have more luck in the future. i added velvet also to my wishlist. fortunately, that one is GC! it seems to be a wonderful scent. regarding wulric i shy away a bit because of the lavender. don´t get me wrong, i love lavender, but up to now i only found one scent in which i loved the lavender note. mostly, it strikes me as rater masculine. & though i love unisex scents, masculine ones don´t suit me too well.

    Temple Viper

this is my first review unfortunately, temple viper doesn´t work that good for me - or perhaps it works, but i don´t like it... in the imp, it smells very sweet, too sweet. wet on skin it´s the same: just extremely sweet, all i get is sugar cane, it´s really unpleasant. when it dries down, the cloying sweetness begins to fade - fortunately! - but there´s still too much sweetness to make it wearable for me. underneath the sweetness i can smell something warm, almost like a soft leather. i wish i´d get more of that smell - or at least some incense... hopefully some of the other snakes will work better for me!
  19. hello i´m pretty new & i would like to know if there is a chocolate scent that isn´t too foody. i´m searching for a warm, cozy, even dark scent with a chocolate note which doesn´t smell exactly like the "real thing" because - even if this may sound really stupid - foody scents tend too make me hungry. i smell them & suddenly i´m craving a hot chocolate (when it´s a chocolate scent) or some cookies (when it´s e.g. a vanilla scent - though i love dark, almost smoky vanilla - that doesn´t make me hungry at all ). maybe i´m wrong, but on my "to-try-list" are: - tezcatlipoca - boomslang it would be great if you could recommend me other scents i should try!
  20. black annis seems to be right up my alley as i love civet the description of the death of autumn sounds great, but then i read some of you only get vetiver. i know, it´s all about skin chemistry & i like vetiver - but only in small dosis.
  21. imperatrixmundi, bubblegum-smell isn´t for me, either! i wrote down all of your suggestions & have to find some more reviews about them. there are sooo many BPALs, it´s pretty hard to find the "right" ones...!
  22. minlux, thank you! i like most types of fragrances, but one can´t pull off is rose - if rose is amongst the notes, it´s okay, but when it´s a soliflore rose scent, then it´ll get overwhelming on my skin. very fruity scents aren´t for me, either. i like vanilla scents as long as they aren´t too gourmand. dance of death sounds great as i like patchouli. i also will look for smiling spider (loverly name!) & mme. moriarty!
  23. hello, i´m new to BPAL scents (but not new to perfumes in general): could you suggest me a deep, dark, mysterious scent? i love morocco, but it´s not very dark - at least to me. when reading reviews of BPALs, i thought maybe i´d like sin. but i hope you can make more suggestions which ones i need to try! thank you
