    Veil

A quiet scent, soft, calm and enigmatic. A perfume of mystery, of whispers, and of secrets behind secrets. White sandalwood, lilac, gardenia, violet, orris, lavender and ylang ylang. This one winds up being too soft on me as well, and very floral and sandalwood/powdery. I like it, but it isn't something I'd wear.

    Hellfire

A little like Swisher Sweets or some other inexpensive cigar when I first put it on that fades to a soft, sweet urinal cake scent. I can barely smell the leather, especially now that it has dried down. Not right for my skin chemistry and it's a little to manly anyway.

    Voodoo

My body amps the sweetness and the patchouli, so it smells like cherries and dirt when I first put it on. After a minute it become cherry Coke and patchouli, with different notes popping out, lime, clove, pine, patchouli at different times. The dominant smell starts as the cola, then the patchouli, then fades to a sweet, spicy clove. Just not right for my body chemistry, but it's not a bad smell.

    Mag Mell

In the imp I smell ginger and verbena, very sharp and lemony. On my skin the sharp verbena turns to lemon scented dishsoap, grounded by a powdery amber with a hint of hot ginger. I wanted to like this one, but it is just not me.

Hunting for the ultimate _____ blend

I DO love The Caterpillar, but it becomes much more woody/incense on me than jasmine. I will have to try Crossroads and I know I want to try The Apothecary, for sure. But now you've got me wanting Red Lantern, I've yet to try a coconut blend. Thanks! Thanks, Phantasm is on my list but I decided to go for Namaste in the order I made yesterday. I really want to find a wearable, noncloying, non-powdery jasmine, but my skin seems to amp all the other smells and not the jasmine.

    Shattered

In the imp I smell grapefruit and mint, but on my skin it mellows into a pretty, sporty citrus. It is a sharp smell in the imp, which suits its name very well. The floral (lotus and aquatics) is very soft and sweet and creates a pretty base for the sharper citrus/mint. I cannot pick out an individual mint or citrus scent after 15 minutes, but I prefer it that way, since I'm not particularly partial to either by themselves. But together they are really something. The florals come out more after the second application, I put it on at 8am and 1pm. There is the tiniest hint of something sweet, bubblegummy, but not so much that it makes the whole scent sickenly sweet, that might be the champagne. This is the note I have the most trouble discerning. The dominant mood of this one is what I would call "refreshing". This is a great perfume for spring, but I'm sure I'll break it out in the middle of winter as well when I need some cheering up. *** stars. edit: after several months of bpal love, Shattered is still in my top ten. I just got back from the hair salon and proceeded to cover up the hairspray scent with Shattered, which is always gorgeous floral grapefruit, very Asian smelling. I love this blend... it reminds me of the scene in Perfume when Grenouille is trying to get the smell of glass right. Well, Beth, you got the smell of broken glass, all right! update to 4 stars! ****
  7. I find The Caterpillar to be a dark scent, but also very woodsy/ incensy.

    Odin

In the imp I smell woody spices and a sweet resin. On my skin the sweetness amps up and turns into spicy/sweet urinal cake. Not a keeper, but hopefully this imp will work for someone else.

    Phantom

In the imp I smelled rose and myrrh. On my skin the rose amps way up for the first 15 minutes, then the myrrh takes over. The attar of roses fades from rose to sandalwood/incense and it becomes just a little cloying on me. Not an everyday scent. I can see myself wearing this out to a club, but not to dinner. I'll finish the imp, but I'm still looking for the perfect rose scent.

    Fairy Market

In the imp I smell incense and sweet florals, but on my skin the florals fade to nothing, leaving a sweet incense smell. The scent is too "perfumey" for my taste, and it fades much too quickly from my skin, leaving a sweet powdery smell mixed with incense and drug store perfume. I really wanted to like this one, but skin doesn't agree with it. edit: After wearing this several more times, I am in love!! My skin chemistry must not have been the best that day, or else I tried it on too soon after it came in the mail, sometimes they need to settle a bit after traveling. This is now my 2nd favorite scent. Sometimes the green grass smells a bit sharp to me, but I love the sugared incense scent. I'm currently reading Stardust while wearing this scent, and it helps transport me to the realm beyond Wall...

    Hamadryad

I guess my imp is of the wintergreen/liniment variety. Too bad, the description sounded wonderful. It has been a lesson for me to read the latest eviews first, not the first page with the earliest reviews. This was the first bpal scent I actually had to wash off, it smelled so bad.

Hunting for the ultimate _____ blend

I have decided that Urd is the Ultimate Headshop scent. I'll have to try Severin, since I, too, am looking for the ultimate bergamot/ Earl Grey. I'm also on the lookout for Ultimate sexy amber Ultimate everyday jasmine Ultimate tea Ultimate tabbacco leaf Ultimate herbal Thanks!

    Libertine

In the imp I smell the bergamot and a very sharp floral. On my skin Libertine changes to become more floral and somewhat powdery and the bergamot never comes out. Once dry it is mostly rose. Apparently my skin amps up the rose scent and I can barely smell anything else. I like it, it is a soft, powdery rose, but I have plenty of rose scents already. 3.5 stars out of 5 edit, I've been wearing it all day today instead of just testing it for a few hours, and I like it much better. It is very soft, but after a number of hours mellows to a light rosewood scent that I really like. I reapplied after about 10 hours and the second layer is much woodier and I even smell sandalwood. This is a great oil that really comes to its potential on my skin after a few hours and then reapplied. I even get a whiff of bergamot in the crook of my elbow. Lovely.

    Urd

Didn't try this imp on myself, but I slathered it on my husband, who adores it. I certainly lucked out with that one, he usually is indifferent at best to perfume oils. The grape scent certainly subsides once on the skin, and the incensy notes grow warmer. I have to agree that the first thing that came to mind was "headshop". It smells like all the incense in a headshop, the good quality and the poor, mixed together in a very wearable scent. I love it on him, but it isn't right for me. Body chemistry is a strange thing and I think the grape will turn to Kool-Aid on me. Ugh, yesterday I actually put it on my own skin, it turned to car air freshener in a matter of moments. Great for those who produce their own natural musks, but not for those whose bodies amp sweet scents.

    The Caterpillar

I really like The Caterpillar, but I'm not sure if I'm still smelling anything but incense. The floral notes fade fairly quickly, leaving behind a smoky (in a good way) residue. If I try I can pick out a little jasmine and carnation for the first 15 minutes, but they blend into a flowery incense after a while. I still like it, but I'm looking for a less cloying and more jasminey woody scent. *** out of 5 stars. January 08 I like The Caterpillar more and more the more I wear it. It begins with a high, clear jasmine top note, which slowly fades to be consumed by the woody-incense of the base. It is just beautiful and one of my favorite florals. Adding another star! **** out of 5

    Hymn to Proserpine

The darkening amber of faith’s sunset, deepened by the dark fruits of Proserpine. Hymn to Proserpine works really well with my body chemistry. I get a definite fruity scent on top, with a warm, soft amber, not really a "darkening" one. The fruitiness doesn't really smell like pomegranate to me, it is more sweet than tart, but still nice. It refrains from going powdery on me like some ambers do, which is a big plus. *** out of 5 stars! Tried this one again and the amber smelled a little sour after the first 15 minutes. Oh well, I wanted to like it, but I guess it doesn't work all the time.

    London

Yup, it's rose! And I love it! This is the first imp I've had that really syncs with my body chemistry. My skin seems to be eating up bpal oils, but this one lasted for a couple of hours. I love the very "proper" rose scent it has, but it doesn't smell very wicked to me. Instead, it manages to come out as a very pure dry rose that isn't too cloying or powdery. ***.5 out of *****

    Dorian

It's easy to see (smell?) why so many people like this scent! I get a very herby tea and hint of lemon smell from Dorian. After a minute, it gets a little sweeter, but cloyingly so. Not much else I can say to describe this scent that hasn't already been said, but it is a winner!
