    Detestable Putrescence

I know previous reviewers said it smells like LP or BM. Well, to me, from the moment it hit my skin I said "Midway!" To my nose they are in the same territory. But Detestable Putrescence is "thicker" somehow. Vanilla ice creams don't smell like that here, probably different ingredients lol. This is a warm foody scent and I'll be keeping my bottle to use in my hair-oiling days (like I use Midway). I love Detestable Putrescence, it's warm and comforting but I don't really want to smell edible (at least most of the times ).

    Hunter Moon 2004

... A blend of traditional lunar oils touched with dry leaves, autumn bonfires, warm mulled wine, feral, animalistic notes and the chill of approaching winter. This is really samarablackcat's fault that I'm in love with this scent. She sent me a tester. I got hooked. Then she gifted me with her partial Hunter Moon 04, 5 years down the road, is one of the most evocative bpal blends I've sniffed. Zankoku_zen is right, it does have a similar feel with Mabon, but HM is more smoky/musky to my nose. I'm very very glad that this smoky part doesn't give me a headache (like Hexennacht does). There's some kind of wine in there, a feeling of dry leaves and a sexy smoky musk - the kind I'd prefer to smell on a guy than on me. It's a gorgeous blend, but I'm not sure if I can pull it off myself. I love huffing it though.
  3. Velvet Nudie. I'm surprised how much I've come to like it and reach for it. It's lemony (I swear I get lemon from it, don't know why) but it dries down to a very nice, soft, musky scent. Clean without being detergent-clean.

    Tetramorph v2

What zankoku_zen said, exactly. I would be interested in having an imp of this, but I won't go mad trying to track a bottle down. Many thanks to the lovely cheshirecat for sending me this tester. ETA: I had to scrub it off with alcohol, as I started getting a headache.

    Ysabel

OMG Ysabel! I'm sorry I can't be more coherent now. I'll edit this later on for a more objective review. For now, suffice to say that if you love carnation (it's soft here), resins, the faintest touch of rose, clove, soft musk, this is an incredible blend. Mme Moriarty you created a masterpiece in this category. ETA a couple days afterwards: I keep wearing this. It's a bit intense the first 20 minutes or so, but the dry down and the 2-5 hours stage is divine. Also, it is sliding towards Tabula Smaragdina/RoseCross territory, because of the incense note, but the rose is still subdued. I can catch the carnation only in whiffs when I move around, but not when I huff into my wrist. I'm in love with her majesty.

    All about plum!

I'll second Dionysia. It has that intense PlumSN in it I also think there was one of the most recent Shungas that was intensely Plum and probably I mean Makhanitis that samarablackcat mentioned upthread.

    Patientia Bath Oil

Patientia: A masterpiece in sandalwood. This is bpal's best sandalwood imho. Better than Svaddhinaopatika, less dry than Shroud. Awesome. I love it. If you love sandalwood, like I do, then you have to try this oil. Woodsy in the unmistakeable sandalwood-way, just a little bit spicy, not foody at all, non-flowery. For a sandalwood lover, this, imho, is perfection. I'm amazed at the quality and beauty of many of BPTP's bath oils. I've been converted although I have never liked oils and I don't even take baths!

    A Bachelor's Dog

OMG! I *just* promised my imp of aBD as a frimp with a swap, after it had been sitting in my swap pile for over a year. So I thought I'd test one last time. I don't like leather and I don't like cigar smoke, or the "smoked" variety of smoke. But I friggin LOVE this! The musk is exquisite, the leather is soooo soft, like an old, well-loved, well-worn pair of gloves. The tobacco is really understated on me. Awesome blend. Maybe not for me, as I'm usually more girl/woman in my perfume, but I would LOVE to have a bottle of this, for the right guy. I would love to snuggle up close to a guy smelling like this. I'm heartbroken that I discovered this gem so late, but I won't go back on my word. Off it goes to its' promised new home.

    Winter Maiden Bath Oil

My thoughts exactly! It's a great scent and I find it quite invigorating and yes, uplifting (but not calming to me). It has awesome throw because when I dare use it, the whole appartment smells of it. Lasts a long time, too. I hope they bring it back again. It's Winter somewhere on earth now, isn't it?

    Flower Moon 2009

I bought this, despite my brain saying "there's honey in there, keep away".I read WC reviews likening this to my beloved Mum Moon in "feel". When will I ever learn that bpal's honey has a 90% chance of not working on me? The florals in the blend are not offensive at all. Really quite pleasant. It's the honey on top that ruins it for me. This is a blend for people who love honey. Sadly not for me.

    Blue Moon 2004

Wet in the bottle and on my skin: Fresh-cut cucumber! 10mins on: cucumber and fresh, very green herbs Dry down: Is it a hint of orchid? This is a fresh, aquatic-like scent that is very pleasant. Soft and shimmery and translucent. Watery and cool but not snow-like. I'm not too fond of the cucumber stage but it's never offending and it's over pretty soon. Then I'm left with an ethereal aura. This is a very very good choice for the hot months ahead and the drydown is really really nice. I can see why people love it to bits. It really is unique. Side note: It's amazing how this 5yo bottle still smells so incredible. The person I bought this from must be storing her bpal with tender loving care and I will do too!

    Searching for the Perfect Vanilla?

I'm searching for the perfect vanilla sandalwood. Any ideas? Have been trying to find some Shroud to layer with Antique Lace to see how it would make me feel. Maybe you have a better, ready-made recommendation?

    Springtime scents

I'm thinking Agape will be a very good Spring scent. Also, I love Pink Moon 2005 for Spring and can't wait to start using it again, so girly! Two more contenders are Tamamo-no-mae and The East. I think The East is good up to early Summer and it's in my top-15 scents: wildflowers and a touch of green and really nice.

    Death of the Grave Digger

I've had this imp like forever and never even knew that it was a bpal scent. So I tried it today and I'm glad I did. The first (and only) scent with "dirt" that I didn't run away of. It's in the same genre as the other snowy bpal blends (Skadi, Snow Moon, Snow Bunny) but it's more piney and I don't get any florals or sweet fruits. As it dries the snowy/piney vibe mellows down and the soil note is more prominent. I get a bit of opoponax but no myrrh. I prefer my Skadi (and Snow Bunny/Snow Moon) for my snowy fix, because I like the sweetness in the drydown. Death of the Grave Digger will be perfect for those who do well with "dirt" notes and love bpal's "snow". Minimal throw.

    Prurience

This is a dry scent. I was expecting and hoping for carnation but sadly it didn't make its presence known either wet or on my skin. Sniffing out of the bottle and wet on my skin I get vetiver and musk (I've come to realise my skin amps musk even if there's a little in there). I do not dislike Prurience. I was really hoping for carnation and maybe it would have helped to steer this away of the all-smoky vetiver-musk feel. It did mellow down on dry-down, but still not something I'll reach for.

    Jingo-Kogo v6

This was a generous sniffie from my scent cousin It's very light. Even slathered on I didn't get too much scent (maybe it's my allergic and stuffed nose). It's a beautiful scent. Soft and serene and mellifluous if I may be a bit poetic. I like it a lot, particularly the sandalwood note. Not so much the orange note when wet. If it is released I will buy a few bottles, because it is very wearable. You can even go in the rush-hour metro wearing that and not offend anyone's nose. I like it a lot, with my mind. It doesn't capture my heart. It's like a nice guy that we think would be a good mate and we decide with our logic to go out with. But there is something missing, that spark it's just not there. If I were a guy, I would love to snuggle up with a girl smelling like this. I'm not sure I would be enticed to make love to, though. I think Jingo-Kogo is a very personal scent and is not there to attract others. Which is perfectly fine by me, as I mostly want a scent for myself. I was lucky enough to find a decant and I'm waiting for it to test again and see how I feel. For now my bottom line is: this is many-bottles-worthy. But with and for my mind, not my heart.

    Agapē

Happy fifth birthday to the bpal.org forum! To commemorate five years of camaraderie, love, and unbelievable kindness, we present a scent comprised of notes that encapsulate the essence of friendship: carnation, apple, sweet pea, vanilla cream, passionfruit, sugar cane, tonka, and guava. I love the bottle art and it's a keeper for that alone and it made me "discover" the same forum skin It's a soft, creamy and apple-y scent. I can't detect any carnation either in the throw or on my skin, although I love me some carnation. The fruity aspect doesn't go rancid at all and the florals are tame. Mostly it's a sweet apple scent on me, not cloying at all and reminds me quite a bit of Sugar Slathered Candied Apple. A very happy and "feel good" scent for bright and sunny days. ETA: Very very nice drydown, 7 hours later. I can smell it on my wrist. Nice!

    Crypt Queen

I was beginning to think I had the wrong scent, till I came on zankoku_zen's review upthread. This was all about pepper to me. Wet, drying, dry, the pepper was so dominant I could not sniff anything else. I like me some pepper but not that much of it. I was hoping that this queen would work with me, like other queens do, but it was not meant to be.

    Plum

This is a great one and can be worn very well on its' own. It's dark and sort of smokey and very sexy and it smells like more than just the fruit - well, at least our plums here, smell more rounded and ripe and fruity than the SN. It's almost sort of musky/incensey. If you have sniffed Dionysia, it's PlumSN that dark/smokey blast you get when you sniff out of the bottle.

    Black Opal

Vanilla and black stone(?) The vanilla from Antique Lace, really nice and soft here and then that feel of stone and rock (as others mentioned upthread). That "black" note smells faintly the way tyres smell when you break abruptly from driving at high speed. Now I know how it is to be sad when chemistry ruins a wonderful blend.

    Ho Ho Ho

I was trying to remember what other bpal blend HoHoHo reminded me of. I finally realised that it's Pink Phoenix. No, they are nothing alike, but they do share a fruit note, at least to my nose. So from reading the description of Pink Phoenix I'm guessing it must be the pear that they have in common (although pears smell differently here ). If it weren't for the PP association, I would say the fruit is some kind of plum. While wet it's a yummy, fruity, spicy blend with something dark lurking underneath. Maybe some kind of dark musk or red musk? On dry down it's more dark and incense-y, almost smoky but not quite. And it lasts. I like this a lot, a wonderful blend and I'm happy at least one of this year's exclusive scents works well on my skin. So glad I got a bottle of this!
  24. The East from the Stardust series. Here's the review topic :The East It doesn't have dirt though.

    Incantation

This is a well-aged imp, with the old style phoenix-graphic. This screams "guy" to my nose (vetivert does that to me). It's a bit lemony and when dry the sandalwood is a nice touch. It's perfume-y but really a great blend and would do wonders on a guy with the right chemistry. Gorgeous. ETA: 3 hours afterwards, still going, still true to the scent and still gorgeous! Bottle-worthy!
