The Wild Men of Jezirat al Tennyn (2006)

In the imp, this is all patchouli and cloves. Wet, this is an "mmm" scent; it's cloves, pepper, and patchouli. Once dry, a fiery, spicy blend of clove and patchouli. It's good, but I won't need to get more.

    Tiresias, the Androgyne

In the imp, this is SO rich - patchouli, tobacco, cinnamon, caramel. On my skin, the caramel comes out in a big way, but it's not overly sweet - it's a sort of smoky caramel (which I'd attribute to the tobacco), with the patchouli backing it up. Dry, this is really interesting - that smoky caramel. Really sensual and yet sinister, but it's a LITTLE too smoky for me to keep.

    The Parliament of Monsters (2006)

In the imp, the Parliament of Monsters is all incense and opium - very smoky. On my skin, I get dust and tobacco - smells almost woody, like an old cigar box. But - tragedy. I can barely smell this when it's dry!! What's there is nice, but it's almost completely eaten by my skin. Sad.

    Pulcinella & Teresina

In the imp, this is all woods for me - cedar, teak, as well as the labdanum. Once I put it on, there's a hint of the rose over the woody scents. This one's not for me - it's slightly sour when it's dry, and a very woody scent.

    Thalassa, the Galapagos Mermaid

In the imp, Thalassa is all sweet saltiness - I smell jasmine and sea spray. On my skin, it's saltier - the jasmine's still there, with just a hint of frankincense (I expected this to be very ... icky, because of the seaweed and kelp, but it's actually really nice.) Dry, it's salty and green - but very light and subtle. This is really nice - not a "Whoa", so I'll be passing it on, but I think for the right person, this could be amazing.

    Kataniya, the Clockwork Woman

In the imp, this is flowers with a touch of an ozone-y, electric smell - like a garden during a storm. Wet, on the skin, it's very light - still flowers post-storm (no metal at all!). Dry, this really lives up to the description of "gentle flowers"; it's very light, with no metal scent at all. I was very apprehensive about trying this, but it's actually really nice. I'll be passing it along, because this isn't a "wow!" scent, but it would work great for someone else.

    Arachnina, The Spider Girl (2006)

In the imp, this is warm and inviting, but sinister - I definitely pick up patchouli. Once it's on, the lilies come out, the warmth of the patchouli is still there, and the musk is there, too. When it dries, it's a warm, smoky musk and patchouli scent. Nice, but nothing special for me.

    Gluttony

In the imp, this is dark chocolate and caramel with buttercream and toffee - yum! The Lab keeps making me re-think my anti-chocolate stance! On my skin, this is sweet and nutty - the chocolate dies way down, and there's lots of vanilla, hazelnut, toffee and caramel. When it dries, it's sweet, nutty, and surprisingly subtle - I love it!

    Water of Notre Dame

In imp, Water of Notre Dame is light and bright - almost citrus-y, but not really, with a hint of resin-y / wood-y ness. (Hurray for vagueness!!) Wet, on my skin, there is something very soothing about this - very light, maybe something floral way back. Once it dries, it's very soft and light - there's something I recognize here, but I can't put my finger on it. I like this one; it's very soothing and peaceful, much as I expected. :-)

    Jezebel

In the imp, it's orange blossom & honey - nice! The orange blossom & honey are still there when I put it on my skin, warmed up by sandalwood - very decadent, very sensual. But when it dries, it's all powder - curses. I wanted to like this one.

    Suspiro

In the imp, Suspiro is uber-floral - I get ylang ylang specifically. On my skin, the lily of the valley comes to the forefront, but there's a chorus of flowers behind it. When it dries, it's a very light, nice floral - but it's not for me.
  12. SarahScent44

    Peitho

In the imp, I definitely get lily and jasmine - all florals, no spices, no musk, no vanilla. On my skin, it's still all heavily floral - and when it dries, it's "florals, ahoy", and then powder. Definitely not for me.

    Nanshe

I put Nanshe on my wrists/forearms right before bed, as I usually sleep on my side with my hands drawn up by my face. It was quite strong - reading this thread, I realize that it was a lot of really herbal lavender and some lemon, which clashed on my skin. I remember thinking, "Well, don't judge this as a perfume." I got this as a frimp - I wouldn't normally have thought of trying the sleep blends, as I'm one of those people that can fall asleep with the lights on and sleep through any number of disturbances. Wearing Nanshe, I slept like a rock; I didn't have any dreams that I can remember, but both of those things are fairly typical of me anyway. I think that I will pass this on to someone that will get more use from it than I will.

    Burial

In the imp - it's juniper! I love the smell of juniper - I grew up in the high desert of central Oregon, and there's juniper trees everywhere. This smells like the desert after it rains. On my skin, though, it's straight-up fake Christmas tree / pine tree car air freshener. When it dries, Burial is just intense pine tree car air freshener. Heartbreaking, and WAY too strong to wear on in its own.

    Velvet

In the imp, this is cocoa lightly backed by myrrh. Very nice. On my skin, it's cocoa and vanilla (which really works for me) - I'm not really smelling the sandalwood and the myrrh has disappeared. When it dries, the cocoa and vanilla blend with the sandalwood myrrh - and I'm not sure they're playing well together. On paper, this should work for me - but on my skin, it's not working. It's very strange. On to someone who will love it like it deserves!

    Manhattan

In the imp, I get a hit of the grapefruit and lemon peel - so far, so good. On, there's still a lot of citrus, just a touch of leather and tea in the background. When it dries, it's very light - there's still a hint of grapefruit, over a foundation of tea. I expected this to be a lot more complex - I like what it is well enough to keep, but, based on that components list I thought there would be MORE to it.

    Thanatopsis

In the imp, this is pine - a real pine, not "pine cleaner" like you get lot of - as well as juniper. On my skin, it's musk over the scent of forest - nice. When it dries, it's mostly musk with just a hint of pine. Very subtle - very nice.

    Embalming Fluid

In the imp - lemon. * happy sigh* I'm a fiend for citrus. This is light, soft lemon and green tea. On my skin, it's still a very light lemon, accented lovely green tea - very clean, very nice. When it dries, it's still a great lemon-citrus, but it's very soft. I can see why the name of this scent gets bandied about so often. This is a great everyday, work/professional, subtle beautiful scent.

    Zephyr

In imp, Zephyr is very light - the lemon and verbena are predominant, with a little bit of neroli and bergamot On, the citrus disappears almost immediately - I get sandalwood, a little vanilla, and the musks. It's an amazing change. This really deepened and expanded once it dried - the sandalwood and musk are very warm and soft. There's the sweetness of vanilla, and just a hint of the brightness of the lemon. This is a really nice everyday scent - very subtle and sophisticated.

    Queen Gertrude

In the imp, this is a light floral - I can't pick out any individual flowers. Wet, on the skine, this smells like cut flowers, like a bouquet that my mom would have on her dining room table. When it dries, this is a really nice, well-blended, undistracted floral - but florals aren't really my bag, so I'll be passing this on.

    Pride

In the imp, Pride is all rose, all the time for me. When I get it onto my skin, the rose is softened the lightness of the narcissus, but just barely. Once dry, this is a really nice rose scent, very basic, very beautiful - but as I'm not rose-crazy, and I already have a couple of rose blends I really like, I think I'll be passing this along.

    Odin

In imp, I get a very woody smell (likely the elm bark) with the herbs. When I put it on, it's a very warm, dry scent - all wood and herbs, still. Once it dries, it's all musk (it's a nice musk, I like musk) with just a hint of herbs. This is nice, but I have a lot of musk scents, and there's nothing super-interesting for me here.

    Tweedledee

For me, Tweedledee has the brightness of the kumquat with the heat of the pepper when I sniff the timp directly. On the skin, it's still kumquat, pepper - and just a hint of orange blossom. Curiouser and curiouser - the kumquat got stronger as it dried. I love it! It's backed by a foundation of the sweet tea, while the pepper has completely faded - another winner for me from the Mad Tea Party collection.

    Bathsheba

In the imp, I get a boozy plum scent, with the musks in the background. When I put it on my skin, the plum gets sweeter, and there's the warmth of the musk - I get just the faintest spicy scent of the carnation. I want more of that! Dry, there's much more carnation - yay!! But it's balanced really nicely by the sweetness of the plum, and both are backed up by a very light musk, which adds a nice softness. Keeper!

    51

In the imp, this is warm, musk-ish, but still light and definitely fruity (mandarin, neroli). There's something clean and clear there as well. On my skin, this is very clean and sweet - it's the clean air of the desert with a hint of all the fruit and the freesia. It's really beautiful. When it dries, it's well-blended - there's no identifiable fruit notes, just clear, sweet air. It's very light, very subtle. But I like it a lot. Nice, nice, nice
