    Wolf Moon 2004

this is lovely, a sharp piney scent, reminiscent of skadi. but it has a floral scent to it or something soft. i really like it, and it feels cozy to me, despite the sharpness. like skadi's quieter cousin..

    Springtime scents

aeval, crossroads and tenochtitlan! all three are very sweet green scents for me - herby and light, but carrying a delicious, fertile punch!

    Hexennacht (2005, 2016, 2019)

it is so odd to me how the same oil can smell different to me at different times. when i first received hexennacht, i put it on and was kinda "meh. . " it just didn't grab me, and it was too heavy on the vetiver for me (read: any vetiver at all). so i put it aside, intending to wear it one more time to make sure i wanted to swap it. i just put it on today for the second time, and HOLY SMOKES, BATMAN! it starts out this bright floral (???) and then deepens into a sweet woodsy smell. . . almost like pancakes cooked over a fire and topped with stewed apples. it isn't foody, but it definitely is warm and sweet. the vetiver seems to still be there, but this time its coming out as smokieness, rather than vetivertness. . . i get hits of pine. . . .the vanilla scent of jeffery pine. . .the smell of duff heated by the sun. . . and a soft floral somewhere in there somewhere. *sigh* i am loving this now. how odd that i didn't the first time. . . if it changes the next time i wear it, i will be back to edit this. . .

    Temple of Dreams

i didn't try this blend for the notes in it, but rather for it's use. so i didn't pay too much attention to the scent, although it was a lovely lavender. i usually wear onerio to bed, but last week i decided to shake things up a little. i wore temple of dreams to bed four nights in a row last week, and each morning i woke up with dreams that carried over into my day. unfortunately, they were dreams that left me sad/angry/annoyed with people in my life. i couldn't shake those feelings during the day, so the dreams really impacted me. i'm very intrigued by all the dream blends, and really like the fact that ToD seemed to bring on dreams. but i think i'll use it more sparingly than 4 nights in a row. i wish i knew how to work with the oil, as i think it would be more effective.

    EPIC BPAL Spreadsheet Thread

i started a blog where i keep a copy of the catalogue, with my own comments/reviews, as well as notations on which scents i currently have and which ones i've swapped. that way i can update it anywhere/anytime i have access to a computer. i got tired of continually re-printing my spreadsheet, since i have both home and work computer access. . .

    Bastet

in the bottle, straight, sharp almond, which i love! wet on me, i get a cherry scent, with the strange acetate underwhiff that i sometimes get from cherry. that goes away as soon as it dries on me and i get hard core almonds, just the way i like them! the spice comes out more as it settles down on my skin, and after about an hour, i have a beautiful mixture of honey and spice - i LOVE the cardamom in this! so spectacular! something in bastet keeps the almonds from overwhelming everything else, and it becomes this deceptively sweet woman, who you know has the devil inside her just waiting to come out. that is the woman i feel like when i wear this scent. . . beautiful, and yet capable of anything. definitely a keeper!

    Alecto

in the imp, this has a beautiful smell! a sweet citrus tang, something reminding me of my childhood. wet on my skin. . . i get cedarcedarcedar. as it dries, it becomes a little bit green. . .herby. . . i'm guessing that is the leaves. once the dry down is complete, out comes the nasty vetiver. .bleck!!! where the hell did that come from? but i dont wash it off. after an hour the vetiver has receided and i'm left with a fresh, bright scent, with a touch of overly ripe white florals. the scent reminds me of lush's extra virgin olive soap. it smells clean. nice. but i don't know if i can get through the vetiver stage.

    Gaueko

i sniffed this in the vial, without reading the notes first, and thought, "yum, tonka!" i put it on. . . and thought, "yum, tonka!" as it dried, i thought. . ."hmmm. . .smokey tonka." it stayed true for a couple of hours. . .tonka, smokey tonka. . .then when i went to write some notes about it i saw. . . lavender and sandalwood????!!!!! ok. if i sniff knowing its lavender and sandalwood, i can pick it out. i understand how there might be a herby, florally woody scent i could mistake for tonka. but really, i think i will never be able to convince my nose that this is not tonka. . . wierd, huh?

Nag Champa scent in a BPAL blend?

dragon's milk is a strangely nag-champa-ish scent to me. . .sweet and smokey and heady. . . odd, i know. . . .but i really like it. i haven't tried urd or gaueko.

    Chaste Moon 2005

in the bottle: definitely butterscotch on: there is no butterscotch, and i get a sweet milky almond, backed up with a bit of spice - and that sharp ozone scent i've come to associate with the lunar oils. after a while, the floral comes out. i'm not usually a floral girl, but this is just perfectly soft and sweet, balanced by the sharp (almost fruity) background. vanilla, but not in a foody sense. i really, really love this. verdict: this is spring when the air starts to warm. fresh and clean, with a indescribeable sweetness to it, a mixture of the new life and blooms everywhere. my only complaint: it fades too fast. i will go through my one, precious bottle quickly at this rate. . . genious. pure genious. thank you!

    Anne Bonny

i received this imp in a swap with velvet. . . i am sorry it didn't work for her, but on me it is pure heaven! this is pure woody comfort. and it doesn't change much on me through its wearing. it starts out cedar and sandlewood and amber. .. . with just a touch of spice. it is warm and comforting. oddly enough, i don't get any tough girl vibes. i get hibernation vibes. as it dries, the cedar backs off a bit, but overall the scent is still strong. i'm thinking maybe what i thought was cedar was patchulli, but it is not hippy patchulli on me. . .it is something fresher. later, damn! this scent lasts! it fills up my lungs when i smell it. it makes me feel like i am wrapped in a warm blanket (even though i wasn't cold to begin with) and protected. still, the sandalwood and amber at the forefront. and a bit spicy, but i can't place the scent. i am LOVING this oil!!!! i will purchase a big bottle. . . it might have bumped aureus off the "to buy immediately" list. . .

    What Scent Is This?

summer, i haven't tried zephyr, so i can't compare the two. but white rabbit was definitely zingier than i expected. i think it was the ginger. . . gave it a very sharp edge. i was expecting something softer and sweeter. ..

    Morocco

i ordered this in my first order, and was so excited because of the raves i heard. i put it on, and didn't care for it much (bearing in mind, i was completely new). but i wore it about twice, and really wished i liked it more. it never warmed up on me. it felt cold and hard. forward in time - tried this one again after 5 or 6 months. . .damn!! it really HAS warmed up! it is warm and thick and spicy. deliciously buttery, without going overboard. very heady. i worry that it might be too perfumy for me, because i don't like the really heavy blends. but i can't stop sniffing my arm. it smells like heat. like sunshine. like somewhere i've always wanted to be. it is beautiful. could it be true, what the old timers say? that morocco gets better with age? i will buy a big bottle, and try this experiment again!

    Port-Au-Prince

ok. . . what's wrong here? all i get is cinnamon. beginning to end. no rum, no almond, no clove. just cinnamon. can't do much more of a review on it. just cinnamon.

    Yerevan

another lovely gift from the lab!!! thank you! at first: whew! strong berry and plum! sharp! within a few seconds: the berries mellow out and i get apricot. soft, sweet, and watery, but not what i think of as typically aquatic. makes my mouth water, and i am in love with this stage. drying and wearing: this dries into a lovely scent! unfortunately, i cant pick out the individual scents, with the exception of fuzzy apricot. i just know i like it. a lot. i don't get overt floral, no roses, thank god - but it has a floral feel to it. . . like i should be sitting in a garden overlooking a bay on a warm day. i like it more as it sits on my skin. . . just gets sweeter. it fades too fast on me! two hours later, i'm bearly picking up a bit of apricot. .. i think the light scents are destined to dissapear on my dry skin. . . i might get a big bottle, just so i can experience those first couple of hours....

    Venice

i received this as a very generous gift from the lab. . .probably wouldn't have ordered it myself. . . thank you! first impessions: i like this! at first hit i didn't think i would, as it started off too sharp and floral on me. almost immediately it mellowed. this makes me feel alive! looking at the notes for the first time, i see why i would like it. all things i adore, with the exception of rose. i only get just a touch of rose. wearing: for some reason, this reminds me of yerevan, although this is sharper than yerevan, more sophisticated, less florally-sweet. i get lemon and currant, which keep it sharp and bright. and yet something, must be the sandalwood and orris, keep it grounded. light, yet complex. final thoughts: this is not a scent i would have imagined i would like, but the lab continues to surprise me. it ireminds me of a hazy yellow day. . . and venice has kept me interested through the whole yummy journey!

    Vinland

i received this as a gift from the lab. ..i probably would never have ordered it, so thank you!!! i tried this once before, without the intention of reviewing it, just with the intenion of getting a feel for it. i did not like it, and almost put it into my swaps pile. i'm glad i didn't, because this time, it is so pretty! initial application and drydown: starts out nice. i get a soft cinnamon. i don't know what most of the listed notes would smell like, other than rose, which i don't get - which is good. its hard to pick the notes out. something earthy and sweet, yet clean. must be that northern wind. . . . . .does smell like a day outside. like clean laundry. i like it so far. as it starts settling in, i get a sweet citrus, almost like orange blossoms. and a touch of clove and violet. but, i'm getting clove and violet from a lot of things i've tried this week.. . so who knows. *shrug* after 3 hours, i'm trying hard to find this on my skin. it has become so faint. . .so i re-apply and start the process all over again. final thoughts: i like this one. . . it is so pretty. so fresh. like i expected dirty to smell like. but i like this way better than dirty. too bad i have purfume eating flesh. . .

    R'lyeh

uhm. at first, it smells like diet soda with lime. maybe diet cherry soda with lime. something fizzy. and i'm not really liking it. not one bit. later, however, the fizz fizzes away, and r'lyeh it settles into a nice, soft scent. somewhat powdery. it is here that i pick up some grapefruit. it is amazing how much this changed on me in the last 2 hours! i didn't get anything dark or menacing. i get spring afternoon. . . i like this enough to use the imp, probably not enough to consider a big bottle.

    Perversion

wet: this is so, so delightful! i love the tonka. . .it smells like sweet tropical fruit. reminds me of lush's absolution massage bar. i don't get rum, tobacco, or leather, which is good, because i'm not fond of those scents. as it dries: the scent thickens. the description "deceptively magnetic" fits perfectly. it is very sexy, without being overtly sexy. bright, and dark at the same time. cant get my nose out of my arm. . . intoxicating! in the next 2 hours: stays fairly strong and bright. has good throw. i try not to let the lab's visuals get inside my head too much when i try scents, and usually i'm successful. oddly enough, however, this makes me want to go to the local dyke bar (which i rarely do) and seduce some sweet young thang (which i haven't done in years). .. with perversion on, i feel like i could. . . there could be a big bottle of this in my future.

    Blood Amber

i didn't like this the first time i tried it, i thought it smelled cheap on me. so i put it aside and haven't used it in months. today, i tried it again. put it on just before going into a meeting. at first it was honey and cinnamon. . . several people asked, what is that smell? i didn't respond, only because i didn't want to call attention to it. had quite a bit of throw, tho, because i didn't put very much on.. . . the cinnamon faded soon, however, and it settled into thick sweet goodness. amber. dragon's blood. i am lovin it. i'm glad i didn't get rid of my imp! after about 4 hours, it has faded, so the scent stays very close to my skin. . .still nice.

    Persephone

what more can be said? pomegranate and rose. . .a very pink smell. i like it. somehow, the pomegranate gives the rose a little umph, and turns it very interesting. not too fond of roses, however, so this may be swapped. but i'll wait until summer to try it again then.

    Ra

my first thought? lush's skinny dip shower gel. my second thought? lush's skinny dip shower gel. my third thought? see above. spicy and sweet at the same time. . . cloves, clary sage, and just a little bit of vetiver. . .enough to ground it (uhm, literally an earthy scent), but not enough to ruin it. and it pretty much stays that way for a long time. doesn't change much through the dry-down. some have compared sybaris to skinny dip (sorry. . . i know some folks hate those types of comparisons). on me, this is way more comparable than sybaris. this is a warming scent, a great fall morning scent. probably wont get a big bottle (that may change come fall), but will use my imp.

    Ahathoor

wow! its amazing how different everyone's reviews are on ahathoor! i didn't like the way it smelled in the imp, but it changed on my skin into something that i did like. my first thought was ylang-ylang. then a woodsy tone. . .maybe cedar. when i read the reviews, someone else said root beer, and it made sense to me. it does smell like root beer a bit in the wet stage. but on me, the over-sweetness goes away as it dries, and i really like it. it is a languid smell. with a citrusy-cedary background ... yum. don't know yet if i will put it on my big bottle list, but i am keeping the imp.

    'red' scents

to my nose, persephone is pink. . . when i think of red, i think of the blood scents (blood kiss, blood amber) and the dragon's blood. now, maybe that's just my blood = red connotation but the scents smell red to me. . .
  25. what about brazened honey, the biofresh mask.? i LOVE that scent! but its got about a million ingredients. . .herbs and oils. i can't pick any specific notes out.
