    Gypsy Queen

i was iffy about ordering GQ because of the rose, but couldn't pass up the carnation and bergamot notes! at first, GQ is very sharp to my nose. surprisingly so. i expected it to be softer. must be the musk (my skin turns some musk bitter) after a few minutes, the sharp scent quiets down, and i get a citrusy scent. . . ???. . . i think maybe that's a combination of the bergamot and rose. but its a nice scent. and the carnation is peaking around in there, too. . but quietly. after about 30 minutes, the carnation comes out more strongly. and then everything starts to meld together. it gets a bit powdery on me (amber, mayhaps) but the clearer notes - rose, bergbamot and carnation, - keep it from going too soft. then it takes yet ANOTHER turn, and i get the neroli. . .worrisome at first, because neroli goes funky on me - like rotting petals. but not so in GQ. i just get the white floral. overall, this is a very intriquing blend.all the notes come out so clearly at different times on me. and then it settles into a sweet, smokey, and very sultry, scent. almost like magic. i will keep my bottle. probably won't go for a second, tho.

    Hetairae

in the vial....smells like my single note honey. yum! wet on my skin: honey. . plus. there's a spice to it. . almost cinnamon, but a sweet cinnamon. i get a wiff of cardamom in here, too. it makes my head spin with its thick lusciousness! as it dries, i get a woody scent, that to me smells like cedar, but it must be the patchuli. i'm learning that i love patchuli sweetened with honey. ..makes the perfect resinous blend. thick and golden. this doesn't change much on my skin. it stays sweet, but not as sweet as sn honey, and spicy. it lasts for HOURS on me, which is very unusual. verdict: YUM!!! this is so lovely. i will consider getting a big bottle, as it will be great in the fall.

    Pronouncing "BPAL" and scent names!

that's good to know. earlier this week, a co-worker asked me what perfume i was wearing today and i had to say: i don't know. . .can't pronounce it. starts with an 'H'. he laughed at me. *snork!*

    Phantasm

i could have sworn i had reviewed this. ... *scritches head* when i was a girl, i read all the little house on the prairie books. in one of them, laura talks about her teacher, who smells like lemon verbena. i have grown lemon verbena for years, and would rub the leaves on me, wishing the scent would stay more than 10 minutes. always looking for that school teacher's lemon verbena scent. i think i've found it. phantasm IS lemon verbena. fresh, bright and a greenish yellow. although the verbena part of it fades somewhat after drydown, there is still that herby, lemony loveliness. i get the bitter part of the lemon rind, which seems to give phantasm more throw than i expected. and it lasts longer on me than any of the other light summery scents i've been experimenting with lately. i do not get any jasmine (thank you, beth!!!) nor do i get neroli. just lovely, lovely lemon verbena. i pray my imp lasts until the weather cools - or at least until i can hunt some of this down on the swaps page. because this may be THE fragrance i want to wear for until the air crisps.
  5. what about hetaire? that is a sweet, light patchouli on me. . .
  6. gingerbread poppet and shub are almost indistinguishable on me. gp isn't a regular catalogue scent, but may come back around in winter.
  7. i absolutely adore pisces, but only got an imp before it was d/c'd. and my imp leaked!! i have it stored in a jar and i take it out to sniff when i want something to clear my heart. any suggestions for something similar to pisces??

    King of Clubs

oh dear. i do not think i like this. it *acch-ooooo!* is making me sneeze and clogging my sinuses. don't think i've ever had that happen with bpal before. but before that happened, this was all heavy, bitter musk and creepy vetivert. and something that smells really, really bad on me. sorry. the king will not stay in my castle.

    Tezcatlipoca

in the imp this was a hard shot of chocolate. too much, and it made me afraid. . on my skin, however, it loses the overwelming chocolate scent, and becomes a sweet, sweet amberish scent. with a sexy background. i've avoided most the the leather scents, because i tried one or two early in my bpal days and didn't like them. but the sexy background was definitely leather. as it dries, it mellows out, not quite so sweet. more smokey. and rich. it has the same mouthwatering, without being foody or fruity, scent that tenochtitlan has for me. fresh. whereas tenochtitlan is a bright daytime scent, i think tezcatlipoca is a dark, sultry nighttime scent. there is also a woody componant to it. i would say cedar/sandalwood. . . the chocolate is pretty much gone after 15 minutes. but i think its mixed with whatever that leather scent is to make it a hit-me-at-the-back-of-my-throat sexiness. damn. how do they DO this?? i would definitely buy a big bottle of this.

    Sri Lanka

mmmm. . . this is so interesting. in the imp i thought it would be too sharp for me. i smelled pickles. . . even for the first minute on, i thought i might not like it. this is a woody scent with an aquatic bite, to me. i get the cedar and the sandalwood. but there is also a sharpness that keeps the woods from being too heavy. too round. it is like i layered aureus with empyreal mist. or lightning. i like this. this would be perfect for days when anne bonney is too heavy, but when i want the comfort that the woody/resiny scents give me. i cant stop inhaling this.

    Eden

eden is everything i imagined it would be and more! i didn't expect it to be so fresh and so green. . . especially in the early dry down, it is green and coconut. almost a single note coconut if not for the green scent. as it dries, it becomes heady and sweet. coconut, amber and that sweet note that i get from chaste moon and milk moon. then it is almonds. . . yum! soft almonds, not the bitter kind. the sandalwood is there, but blended in so subtly that it is hard to pick out. i can't find the fig. it is a surprisingly cool blend, although i don't get any of the typically "cool" notes (mint, eucalyptus, etc). this is a tropical cool, like the salt breeze blowing in off the blue sea around a tropical island. edged with a promise of an afternoon rain. it really is delightful!

    Thirteen (13)

mmmm. . . 13. in the bottle this is WOW!! bold! dark sultry chocolate! musky and earthy in the way perversion is earthy to me. somehow animalistic. wet on my skin it is still definitely chocolate, but with a bright sweet orange flavor. like lush's whip stick. . .at first there was a boozy scent, but that went away and settled into a deep earthiness (no more animalistic musky scent). hovering under the chocolate orange. the earthiness comes out like some smokey fruit. fig, it seems, but sexy, sultry fig. and still, that chocolate orange scent. as it settles in more, a sexy floral comes out, that dusky floral i get from black pearl. must be the iris. *droooling* after a while, the sweet chocolate scent has settled down, but only so that it sits perfectly with the other notes. mmmmm. dark and mysterious. like this oil is full of contradictions. . . bright and smokey, sweet and dark. earthy and florally. sexy and innocent. they meld together wonderfully. it seems to not sit still on my skin, but wafts and rolls with scent. i will wear this often, and with awe at the creativity that i sense from it. do ya get it? i really, really like 13~

    Flower Moon 2005

i was set not to order flower moon, but when milk moon came up as well, i ordered both of them. i don't like most florals. they are either too sharp to my nose, or my skin turns them into rotting petals. but flower moon? flower moon i like. i can't pick out any of the individual flower notes, except that i think i smell mimosa. the floral scent is tempered and cut by the clear lunar oil scent that i associate with the moon blends. i'm really enjoying wearing this blend. i especially liked it on the few summer days we've had that haven't been too hot. it makes me feel. . . sexy.

    Coyote

tried coyote for the first time today. in the imp and wet, it is a very light, warm herby scent. slightly astringent, but nice. as its drying down, it completely disappears. .. . wiley coyote. . . . but then it comes back, and it is a sweet, warm scent, like being in a field on a sunny day. slightly dusty, slightly wet. .. like there's a watering hole nearby. i really, really like it! its not real strong, and there's not much throw, but it makes me very happy for a few hours. comforting, close. after about 4 hours, tho, it turns kinda bitter, more like a men's cologne than it started out to be. maybe its the musk residue. it is the only part of this scent i don't like. i don't know if i'll get a big bottle, although in the initial stages, i would have told you i was.

    Butch yet not manly scents?

snake oil. loved by butches and femmes alike. . . .

    Muse

i get jasmine. . .then some tuberose - two of my favorite real-life florals. i like it a lot, and this is good, since the floral perfumes are usually disappointing on me. it is fresh - could be the lime keeps the floral from being cloying. definitely a spring/summer scent. innocent and sweet. makes me happy. dries to a light sweetness. sorta fruity, but the citrus has left the building, so it must be something else. unfortunately, it fades way too soon.

    Delight

wet: did i get the wrong imp? cuz i don't smell any of those notes! icky, like bad dirt. as it dries, it becomes spicier, more friendly. i still don't pick out the frangipani, tho. . . i want it to smell like they did in figi! this one confuses me. i don't know if i like it on me or not. there is a nice sweetness, but there's also a generic perfume sharpness over it. . . could be nice layered with something heavier or sweeter.

    Imp

this is delightful! the peach is somewhat cold, definitely not yellow peach, but the amber warms it up. the patchouli gives it a slight sexiness. this gives peach an interesting twist!

    The Red Queen

out of the bottle, this one smells like fingernail polish remover, layered over cherries. i think it is sometimes the cherries that do that funky thing on me. after it dries, the acitate smell goes away, and it becomes a very deep cherry scent. yum. . .nice. after about 2 hours, i begin to get a cedar scent from it, but that is the first wood scent i can recognize. i was surprised, i expected more woody scents.

    Rosalind

this is an elusive scent. i think the moss scent must be the grasses, but i don't catch much berry. it smells riparian, like the sharp, sweet scent along the creek in the late morning. i catch a whiff of fabric softener. . . what is that? then i start to get fresh florals. . .like walking into a florist shop. interesting. . . later, say, after about an hour, it gets more sharp, not quite so sweet. i don't like it as much at that stage.

    Ophelia

first on: the rose is a bit too strong, even tho it is mixed with a sweetness. as it dries: wait. i think i like it. i was prepared not to, because. . . "i don't do rose." but this is nice! it smells like there is amber or vanilla in there, because something in round and soft. it stays fairly strong and true on me. . .
  22. gdogs

    The Apothecary

this is lovely! a bright crisp scent, like cucumbers and lemon. . .very pretty! i was surprised because i don't generally like the tea scents, and ginger almost always smells funky on me. fades really fast, tho. within an hour it is gone. .

    Tenochtitlan

i ordered an imp of this due to the fantastical ravings of ruhbarbbear. .. oh. my. god! this is absolutely beautiful. it is bright and fresh and somewhat floral, but grounded and sexy at the same time. . .it makes me twitch. . . in THAT way. . . i can't pick out the individual notes, because i don't know what most of the listed notes smell like. . .so i'll just call it pretty damn close to perfect. (thanks, r-bear!)

    Hollywood Babylon

The essence of innocence shattered: glittering Egyptian amber and heliotrope, infused with the sweetness of strawberry and vanilla - dragged into debauch by lusty red musk and a dribble of black cherry. wet, this smells just like aquanet hairspray. . . bleck. i'm trying to pick out something other than hairspray, but all i can think of is my days in theatre, where hairspray hung heavy in the dressingrooms. its making me nostaligic. . .but it is not something i can wear as a perfume.

    The Star

first up, this is veeery minty. .in a strange spooky-ish sorta way. its ok, but not great. as it settles in, it gets minty coconut. i started to like it after about 45 minutes. i didn't get any of the lime, unfortunately. 2 hours later, i'm sniffin around, trying to figure out what chocolate scent i put on. i swear, it didn't even smell like the same oil! there is a nice, deep coconut going on under a chocolate layer. . . .with just the tiniest bit of mint. i am reeeeally loving this! 3 hours later it is still really strong, and i feel like eating the world (hum, it makes me hungry. . .) . i think THIS is what i wanted spooky to smell like. .. but it took a long time to get there. . .. .
