12 Days swap

No doubt this will have odd formatting as I had to cut and paste questions. BPAL blog, not so userfriendly.   But here are some questions and some answers!   Lush: like lush bath bombs, bubble bars etc. quite a bit. Stuff for the bath is great, and I'm up for anything, including sparkly things, things with glitter and/or herbs/flowers. I don't care! I can always clean up the bathtub afterward! Fruitcake:Well, I've tried some that was ok, but generally, no. Recipes: Sure, esp. if it comes with something for the recipe, like a mix or an ingredient. Baked goods: YES! Would love it! And if you do this, and are willing to share the recipe, that would be wonderful! Candies: Sure! Stuffed Monsters dollies: Probably not, though I'm open. I suspect it might be eaten by a dog, though. ">How do you feel about mini handmade art projects? That would be cool!< Kitty toys:I have no kitties. I have dogs. Four of them. Who might enjoy kitty toys, but would probably quickly demolish them If you expressed an openness to candles and/or room scent thingies, would you be okay with something that smells like winter holiday spices, baked goods, and greenery-- even if it says 'Autumn'? Yup! I'm open to any candles scented or not! On the slightly off chance that I manage to make a Sinterklaas run before the mailing deadline, are there any Dutch/Indonesian food items you might be interested in? I'd try anything. I like those little caramel things that are like waffles. I LOVE Indonesian food, but can't think if there is anything in particular that would work. But yeah, I'm open! Are there any books you've been meaning to read but just never get the chance to? Maybe....check my amazon wishlist, but I do buy things quickly. I might be better off trying something you like that's not on my wishlist. Anything you're particularly wanting from the Lab/Post at the moment? How about GCs you keep meaning to get but never get around to? Yes, I need to update my wishlist in general, so that will be my next project. Partial bottles in particular are good if you can find them, since I never use a full, but things like strangler fig, the Lion and coyote are some I'm interested in. Cookbooks! Would you want any? Maybe if you see something interesting, like Indonesian food or something like that, but I don't use them much. But you know what is similar that I would love? Books on herbs and herbal remedies. Do you have any fandoms? Not anything that wold be useful Are you interested in any other etailers? If so, name one item from each that you're dying to try. ">Arcana: any arcana soaps, any of the dry masques, and for perfumes , skeleton key. Blooddrop: Frau Von Schtinklestein's Partially Completed Barvarian Love Essence Solstice Scents: if cascade of gold ever comes back, I'd like that. Or Chiffon. Love their little lotions too. Would love something in the scents noted above or Basilica Haus of Gloi: love their creamy lotions. Samhain would be cool. Or satyr. Or possibly samhain in perfume, too. And Elevenses Possets: Cleopatra and others. Does anything from Sock Dreams interest you? anything and everything! I need some socks on the thinner side to wear with shoes that I wear sockless in the summer. I also need boot sock type socks. I prefer mostly natural fibers. And I had some gingko leaf socks I loved and my puppy ate them---would love a replacement pair! Any movies (holiday or otherwise) that you want to see but never get around to? I love the Christmas Carol movies. Any of them. Do you need any smartphone accessories (case, skin, etc)? no Tea, cocoa, other wintery drinks - interested? yes! Cocoa, teas (herbal or flavored black or green). spices for mulling Small samples of homemade booze? Sure! Are there any other swaps you're involved in that may overlap with this one? Not really, as the halloween mummers swap will be over. QUICK QUESTION: How would everyone feel about a slightly odd holiday specialty, Rosemary Pinenut Brittle? It's a blend of salty/sweet/savory and crunchy and I love it...but it's a bit expensive and labor intensive to make if it won't be met with enthusiasm. You can also opt for a "sample" size with the recipe, since I'll likely make one batch for home eating anyway. sounds fabulous! sample size or bigger would be welcome!

Unbirthday swap!

Ok, I've edited this so it looks somewhat normal but something odd is up with the blog entries, so I can't guarantee the formatting will look good. My apologies, dear swapper!   August 2nd>What magazines do you read/ have subscriptions to? Whole Dog Journal, Smithsonian.   ">What kind of socks or tights do you like?   Don't wear tights, but love socks. Natural fibers please. I like any length from anklets to knee high (love the idea of thigh high but don't wear them much). I like jewel tones in particular, but lots of colors are great.   ">Who would like to get a box in the mail with different teas in them? If so, what kinds?   I like tea, but haven't been drinking as much. I prefer herbal teas or flavored blacks, but drink herbal the most. All time favorites though that I drink all the time and am always in need of are ginger tea and hibiscus tea. Do you use loose leaf or tea bags? Do you need any tea supplies, like bags, pots, or infusers?   I use either. The only tea thing I need for the winter is a tea cozy or a tea pot that will keep my tea hot longer than my little glass pot does. August 3rd would you like anything (small) handknitted? if so, fiber sensitivities?   Sure! I like wool, but unless it is very soft merino, it does tend to bother me, esp. if it is on the neck. (its fine for hands). I love all luxury fibres of course, but don't expect them. Otherwise, anything goes. I prefer natural fibers but acrylic can be ok too. Jewel tones or earth tones are good. Do you like knitted items? Any allergies or preferences when it comes to the yarn? What colors?   see above. best colors--deep (blue toned) red. black. grey. Forest green. Purple. What kind of wrapping do you like? Goth? Flowers? Girlie? Bright? Sparkly? Plain? Modern? Fancy? Other?   any. I don't really have thoughts about it except that probably not girlie. August 5th Would you mind anything Alice in Wonderland UnBirthday themed? Love it! I love alice! August 6th What are your art preferences? check into my other swap posts/wishlists for more info. I like folk art esp. How do you feel about sample sizes or testers of things? Love them! Speaking of Villainess, who here is a fan? Would you want any of their goodies? If so, what are your scent wishes, and which types of products would you like? (i.e., Soap, Sugar Scrub, Moisturizer etc)It's ok, but I'm not crazy about it. There are other companies I like more. Do you have any hobbies that you need supplies for? Or anything you would like to learn to do?   I dabble in a lot of crafts, none particularly well. Jewelry making (beading), a lot of fabric dyeing, some collaging, etc. I've toyed with the idea of getting a "knook" to try the knitting/crochet technique, but haven't done it and don't know if I will. I can't think of supplies I need right now.   Do you need any kitchen supplies? ">The only thing I know I'd like is a tiny little zester type grater for whole spices. Oh, measuring cups/spoons. August 7th Are there any herbs or spices that you need?Love any spices. Really. I love Penzey's spices. Curries are fab. But anything spicey/tangy would be wonderful. Although it's just the beginning of August, I've ALREADY started to see a few Halloween items showing up in the shops here and there- would you be interested in an early Halloween goodie?Sure! August 8thIf you are a knitter or hooker (aka crochet), do you need any yarn and accessories, or are there any Ravelry patterns that you would like? I don't knit.   >August 9thhow do you like your incense, oil burners, or candles? Would you use an oil burner and essential oils? If so, what would be some longed-for essential oils? I love incense, esp. loose incense which I burn on the woodstove in the winter. I prefer resins and woods, and I do like high quality incense, like Fred Soll (made down the road from me, so I don't need any!) and the good Japanese incenses. I do have a oil burner but don't use it as much. I love essential oils though, and do need some new ones. Just bought more lavender and cedar, but almost anything else would be welcome, esp. if they also have healing qualities. I do need a rose, but that is pretty pricey, so don't worry about that. Would LOVE a BPAL candle, but also pretty pricey.   Is there anyone here who does collage or scrapbooking? If so, would you want a 'magpie gift', like, origami papers or other pretty things that could be incorporated into those types of art? Yes!   ">talk to me of candy. preferences, flavors, types, chocolate, not chocolate, etc. Mentioned this in my questions. I like good chocolate. Usually milk, but dark is ok too if it is paired with things that go well with it. I love fancy exotic filled chocolate. I love caramel, sea salt in particular. good nut brittles. Peanut butter with chocolate. Will add more later!

Winter fun swap! For my stalkery snow fox! :)

Here are my answers to the questions, copied from Lioness! sorry this is screwed up in terms of format but I can only make some basic adjustments now. Sigh.   November 8th Do you prefer dark or milk chocolate? I like milk chocolate more, but dark chocolate has been growing on me. I don't really like chocolate unless it has things in it. Peanut butter and caramel are favorites, but all sorts of things are delicious--the odder the better! Fruit and nuts are wonderful, but I like chiles and bacon and sea salt and herbs (lavender!) too. Some of those things are better with dark chocolate, so I'm not against it. November 7th What are your opinions on traditional holiday cookie flavorings? I'm thinking anise and cardamom in particular.   Anise! My nemesis is anything licorice flavored, though I've eaten some holiday cookies with mild anise flavor and tolerated them ok. Cardamom is ok. I'm crazy about nutmeg. And ginger. And ginger bread! Do you like artisan oils and vinegars? Very much so!   Bunny, could you use a 2012 calendar, and, if so, do you like big monthly ones or the page-a-day type?   I'm all full up on calenders, thank you!   November 6th   Charity gifts? Either fair-trade type stuff, or virtual type gifts, like vaccinations or school supplies being bought on your behalf, or something along those lines? < Those are kind of cool. Fair trade stuff esp.   Bunny, are you interested in tarts from Two Timing Tart? What scents, if any, are you interested in? Not big into tarts. I love candles though, any sort, but votives in particular are always useful in my house!   Do you need any holiday recipies? Is there something in particular that you'd like baked or made for you? And for those of you doing the no sugar/low sugar, etc. thing these days, how about savory things? I don't know....I got some delicious cookies from my switch witch and she included the recipe which in my mind is brilliant! I would be thrilled recieving more baked good, though. I love christmas cookies! I'm not doing low sugar so I'm fine on that. Savory things are still delicious though!   Speaking about candles, how much do you look forward to the BPTP candles that will be launched on Etsy? I don't know if there will be other scents than the Samhain and Pumpkin Cookie one, but is there a specific one you are longing for?   I would love BPTP candles, but have not been keeping up with this development, but I would LOVE LOVE a Samhain candle as I love the scent but can't wear it. Really, any BPTP candles would rock my world.   Does anyone have issues with gently used things like books, etc.?   Absolutely not--I'm all for recycling/upcycling.   Are you a big ol' nerd for any particular subject? Science, math, linguistics, etc? Or particular authors/fandoms?   Dogs. Utterly geeky about dogs. Esp. Japanese dogs.   Bunnies, how do you feel about lemon-flavored items, like lemon marmalade, lemon curd, lemon pound cake, or lemon cookies?   LEMON! Oh, how I love lemon. Lemon pound cake? Would love it! When I got married two years ago on my birthday, I insisted we have a cake even though we were going with a very minimal type wedding, and it was....lemon! It's my favorite! Lemon curd, cookies, bring it on! I'm not crazy about marmalade of any kind, though.   fingerless mittens or full mitts? I like fingerless gloves, but mittens can be good when it is super cold. Either is good! I'm always losing gloves, too (or dogs steal them and chew them), so can always use them   November 4th reveal, yes or no? Yes, please! Well, if my snow fox is willing.<   Any favorite cuddly characters? Hmmm....don't know. I'm not big into stuffed animals or anything, but would probably like a fox or shiba type stuffed creature!<   Moxie Nouveau groupon?   ???Don't know what it is.   what's your favourite colour? black and grey for clothes, with splashes of color: purple, deep wine red. Jewel tones.   Your favourite gemstone?   amethyst or garnet, though I like most colored gemstones. Citrine is lovely too.   Your favourite animal (real or imaginary)? Foxes, of course! And snowy owls and ravens. And Shibas! But I love animals in general.   And do you have any intense phobias? centipedes. Are you Nano-ing this month, bunny? If so, how would you feel about merch/donations to the cause? not doing it this year.   Do you like/need boxes for perfume/knicknacks? no<   November 2nd Is there any particular holiday DVD that you don't have that you would like to own? well, I do love A Christmas Carol. How do you feel about superheros? Are you a Marvel or DC fan? Do you have a favorite hero?   No.   Would my bunny like anything in particular from Lush? I do have access to an actual Lush store, and also wouldn't mind ordering retro items online. Let's just say this: any and all lush would be swooned over. I ADORE the bubble bars and bath bombs. Anything would be great. Flying fox is a favorite scent of mine, and I love the blue sky and clouds bubble bar.   would you like a Paintbox from Paintbox Soapworks? If so, which scents?   I'm not crazy about the soap but would be happy to try some of the other products.   Do you have kids (or kid-like pets) who your fox may want to take into account, either in terms of a little extra goody or simple safety? I have three dogs, but they don't really need anything, though they are quite capable of trying to steal things!   How do you feel about honey/beeswax? Would you like any? <I like honey but have a ton. Beeswax stuff, like candles, would be lovely.   Are you a Trader Joe's fan, who either doesn't have a store nearby or just loves their stuff and has a wishlist? I'm good on TJs, thanks. Have one near.   The Paintbox Soapworks Yules are up, or at least round one is (updates coming throughout the week). Interested in anything? I haven't really looked.   If I were to place ONE LAST Weenie order, (uh, which I will) what would you want me to include for you? Check my wishlist for my wants. Will you be away for any part of the round?   no.<   What type of books do you like? Dying to read anything? I have an amazon wishlist< If you like Christmas music (or any other holiday music, for that matter), what kind of style do you like? Traditional? Modern and poppy? Indie? I'm not crazy about holiday music,   Do you enjoy things that taste like roses? For example chewing gum, turkish delight, delicious goo that you eat by the spoonful out of a glass jar (and they all taste of rose. Yes, we have all these in Greece.) I would like rose in chocolate! Otherwise, not so much. Also, same question about mastic. Would you be interested in trying it out? (If yes, any preferences? for example you wold prefer to try the chewing gum, the turkish delight, an Easter bun (I can go hunting, some companies make them all year round although it's not the same as the bakery Easter ones ), the raw resin itself, anything?)   ???I'm not sure.....Might be willing to try something small in that flavor.   i live in the city of the chicken wing. if i were to send you something savory, what's your heat tolerance (or sweet and heat for that matter).   Oh, I love wing sauce. I have a very high heat tolerance.   If your fox/bunny were to gift you with a giftcard from anywhere, as in any store foodwise, music wise etc. what giftcard would you like? Sock Dreams? Some fabulous chocolate place? It would be up to my swapper I think.<   If I were to send you chocolate is there anything I should avoid as in nuts, cherries etc.? Also, what are some of your favorite holiday candies? I like everything in chocolate unless it was licorice or hazelnuts, and even hazelnuts can be tolerated, I'm just not crazy about them. I'm not crazy about mint and chocolate though. I even like those chocolate creams: you know, ones with lemon or maple or whatever in them. I like nut brittles. Caramels (love love these!) toffee. ">   Does anything from Fusion Sweets interest you?   um....all the caramels. the rose infused marshmallows. In fact most of the marshmallows. Oh, and peanut brittle. I love peanut brittle. That store looks very good.   Interested in anything from the Elements and Artifacts Yule update?   not really.   October 30 Dear Snow Bunnies: Do you do a Christmas tree? If yes is it themed or specially colored or do you just have all different ornaments and such? I do usually, but we'll see this year. I will probably get a small one because we don't have a lot of room. It's not themed--I just put up ornaments.   Would you like a special ornament? Sure! Tim Tams. Yay or nay? Absolutely!   I know some people are squicked out at the idea of eating things that other people make, or the thought of deep fried cookies sends them into cardiac arrest. If you were my fox, would you like to receive some homemade goodies, or would you prefer that your goodies came from the store?   I would LOVE homemade goodies!   Would any Bunny like to receive Holiday serving bowls, trays, platters etc...? Winter/Christmas or Thanksgiving/Fall themed? I probably wouldn't use them.   My lovely fluffy Snow Bunny, would you like a bodyscrub made by me? If so, what scent(s) would you like, if you had to think along the lines of essential oils? And would you prefer sugar or salt? A dryer scrub or one that's more oily/moist?   Yes! And recipes for body products would be lovely too! I would probably like sugar rather than salt, and I don't have a preference about dry/moist. I like most EO scents, so any would be good.   Dear snow bunny, do you like candles? if yes, then what kind? scented (what scents), unscented, what colors, do you like them plain/painted on the outside/with decorations attached to the surface/sculpted? <br style="color: rgb(81, 94, 13); font-family: georgia; font-size: 15px; line-height: 24px; text-align: left; background-color: rgb(243, 246, 225); ">LOVE candles, and use them a lot. I would not want decorations/sculpted though, as I mostly use them as candles! Scented--in almost any scent--holiday scents like evergreen etc are delightful, resins are fabulous, and foody scents are great too. No florals, please.   Also what do you think of little soaps? I know most people don't use soaps nowadays but I love the chocolate/vanilla/cocoa/butter/sugar combo scents that I see at beauty stores I like good soaps, but don't use little ones much. I like cold process soaps like from Arcana or BPTP or stuff like that. I can always use good, moisturizing soap. I don't like gylcerine soaps.   Socks! Slippers! Do you love them or not really wear them? If you love them, do you also love Sock Dreams?   Yes, yes and I need decent socks rather terribly. I prefer natural fibers, though, so novelty printed socks aren't usually that great a choice for me. (An exception to the natural fiber preference would be for polar fleece socks. I'd like a pair of them!) I'd like some slipper-socks, even though I know they are kind of geeky! talk to me of coffee. Whole bean? Ground? Flavored, not flavored? Decaf, whole caff? Favorite roasters? Drip, french press, keurig? BRING ON THE TEA?   Coffee, yes please. Whole bean. Not flavored unless it is something mild like cinnamon or vanilla. Drip. Strong flavors (french roast, italian roast etc) are best. I like Starbucks ok, but really love Peets and would love to try local coffees.   I also love tea and consume a lot. Mostly I drink herbal infusions these days. Ginger is my tea obsession and will take any and all ginger tea, but I like fruit teas too, and various herbal stuff. I like flavored black teas. And mate.     Have you tried anything from Cocoa Pink and if so, what products and scents do you like or would like to try?   I wouldn't mind trying ends with benefits again (leave in conditioner?) if they still have it, or trying some of their other hair stuff. Scents I like would be vanillas/pumpkin etc.   Anybody into nail polish? Any color or formula preferences? Yep. True reds, purples, golds, silver, metallic browns.   October 29th   I think I answered the rest in the thread.

I like nuts in it (cashews, pecans, macadamia nuts, almonds, and light on peanuts) and dried fruit (any kind but no raisins) and candy....YUM!   Do you like charm bracelets? If you had a bracelet, what sort of charms would you want on it? Favorite hobbies, symbols, whatever? no   There was a question I forgot to answer which was about things you keep meaning to get but don't, so here it is now: there are some small household things I keep meaning to get. They are a microfile grater type thingie (for grating nutmeg in particular, but also hard cheeses); a really GOOD potholder (I keep burning my hands on the cheap ones I have); some good lint free dishtowels.; a lunch bag and/or a bento box type thingie for taking a lunch.   September 19th How do you feel about franken polish? Are you okay with all chemicals, or would you prefer 3 free? Would you want glitter or holographic glitter? Favorite style (twist up tube, pot, tube with wand, etc.)? Favorite flavors? Flavors to avoid? Favorite brand? Do you need more right now or are you set? Are you one of those people who could never have enough lip balm even though you have a bowl on your dresser overflowing with them and 10 in your purse and an order for more on the way? I have some allergies to certain ingredients in lip balms so it's best for me just to stick with the brand I use.   Would you be interested in getting fountain pen inks or art supplies via JetPens and or DickBlick? (I know I have a wishlist on JetPens and just love using fountain pens in my artwork) Pens! I always need pens. Art supplies are awesome!   -For those interested in watercolors, how would you feel about getting a palette filled with paint from my watercolor tubes but not getting the paint tube itself? (kind of like this but without the covers for the compartments and bigger http://www.flickr.co.../in/photostream) Not a watercolorist, though I do like acrylics.   -How do you feel about getting art supplies in general? Animals (foxes, ravens, owls) or symbols I like or Tarot cards, or something like that. I wear a xxl in girly tees (baby dolls with v neck or scoop neck) and those are my favorite styles. (Like these: http://www.art-shrin...cketshrines.htm) Love them! And if they're real saint ones, I'd like St. Anthony or St. Lazarus, or St. Martin de Porres. Hell yes!   Time for more questions and answers!     September 14th   Can you sum yourself (whether it be personality, life's goals, ethics, whatever) in 10 words or less?   not really, but I supposed i might say this: life is short; be kind.   How about little bottles of booze? Ya wanna? What kind?   Probably not.   What are your views on fudge and brownies? (Also, if you live in a warm place, where the fudge might melt, that'd be helpful to know. Or, if you're diabetic and fudge is death, that'd be useful to know, too.)   Yes! Brownies more than fudge. It shouldn't be that warm in NM by the time we get underway.   Also, what about mochi? Love it, hate it, baffled by it?   It's ok.   Anything from the update ya'll are liking? BPTP UPDATE   see wishlist   Does anyone like kimchi?   Yep!   Would you be interested in a sample box(from somewhere like Birchbox or loosebutton)?   yes! I like flavored black tea and green tea, and even more, herbal teas and rooibois.     September 11th   I am fond of the thrift. Do you mind lightly used goods? Please be specific! SW fall '11 questions, round one

Ok, dear future witch, here are my answers to the questions asked in the SW thread, round one!   Sorry spacing is wierd. Comes from cutting and pasting I guess. Some questions I didn't answer if I had absolutely no thoughts on them at all.   September 10th         What #1 actor, director, author and/or musician are you obsessed with?         none really. I like some, but am not obsessed with anyone.         are you interested in anything from the Villainness Bad Apples update?         September 9th         Do you like to burn incense? If so, what are your favorite kinds...sticks? cones? resins? What are your favorite scents?   I like good incense. I am in the incense swap too. I like FRed Soll, but don't need any, as I live near the Fred Soll factory. I like Airs. I love, love the good Japanese incense. I prefer sticks, though loose incense resins will get a lot of use in the winter, as I throw it on my woodstove. I like resins, sandalwood, wood scents, sage, tea, etc. No fruit or florals though nag champa is tolerable.         - Harry Potter - a fan? If so, what house are you?   No         - If you were to receive a gift card, what places would you like to get one from?   amazon! Also Soap Box Company, Scent Addict, Sock Dreams. Really any place would be fine.         Is there a particular myth/folktale/legend/fairytale/godstory that you're drawn to? I love, love love myth and fairy tales. Any and all (though I don't like the disneyfied versions of them. Little Red Riding Hood is a favorite, and I love Kitsune stories and Japanese fairy tales and also African ones.         When you are having a really rough day, what do you like to do/have to make it a little brighter? A bath with bubble bath         What are your thoughts on comics? Any you like? Any you have been wanting to try? Favorite characters? I like some, but don't know them that well. I like the Walking Dead series.               Does anyone garden? And if you do, what do you grow? If not, would a starter garden kit be something you'd be interested in?         I do garden. I have tomatoes and herbs still going right now. I also have an aerogarden that it's about time to plant lettuce in now that I think about it. I like herbs, some flowers, and heirloom tomatoes! My gardening situation is somewhat complicated though: I live in the very arid SW, at high elevation, so I have to have things that are both drought tolerant and can tolerate cold. My vegies I grow in special sub-irrigating planters on the deck (or in the aerogarden inside). I also have to be careful things aren't poisonous as my dogs tend to eat my plants!         Do you decorate for Halloween? Is your decorating taste elegant, kitschy and fun, or scary?   I don't really decorate, but I love halloween stuff, esp. skeletons/skulls and bats, and some stuff is fun to put up.         Witchee, do you have any symbols or totems that have special meaning for you?         Yes. Ravens, foxes, owls for animals. Skeleton keys. Vodou veves, esp. for Legba and Mama Brigitte.         Is anyone fond of programs like Adopt a Tree/Highway/Library/Manatee/Acre of Rainforest/etc?:         The bat thing sounds totally cool. Animal related things would be cool.                     September 8th         From the Weenie Update....what are you most wanting to try? I put a list of things I'm interested in in my wishlist.         Who's into nail polish? What colors/brands? I like nail polish and keep my toenails painted. I like dark reds and brighter reds that have a blue undertone, purple, brown, copper/gold. I like Sally Hansen, but am open to anything.         Is there a quote (or lyric or part of a poem) that really resonates with you or is your favorite?         Dream candle? Scent, color, type (tealight, votive, pillar, jar, etc.), throw...   I love candles and always need them. Mostly I need votives, which is how I refill my saints candles. I LOVE soy candles or beeswax, but because I go through so many, I dont just get this type, which are more expensive. I LOVE Pacifica candles for fancy scented candles, and my favorite one from them is Tibetan Temple. But I'd be thrilled with ANY candles!         Do you like knitted goodies? If so, what would you like and what colors? Oh yes! I'm in the scarf swap right now! I would love socks! I would love fingerless gloves or arm warmers! The scarf is probably covered, but elsewhere on my blog you'll see related answers about that. I like red (darker red with blue undertones), and all jewel colors. Purple, rich green or moss green, rich browns, black of course, autumn colors, greys.         Would you be interested in homemade edibles that are NOT sweets? Any specifics? Sure! Not sure what that would be, but I'm game. I love bread. Sourdough esp. I like salty things.         What GC do you live in mortal terror of the lab discontinuing, but never get around to buying?         Yo, yarnies! Do you Ravelry? If so, who are you over thar? No, I'm not a yarnie.         Social Media? Sure. I'm on FB. Check the FB GUSP thread cheat sheet for who I am.         Do you have wishlists for non-BPAL e-tailers? And if so, could you provide a link or a list? Yep, it's in my link called SW help.         Witchee, do you use a PC or a Mac?   Mac.         What is your favorite animal?   Fox. or raven.         What are you going to be for Halloween?   Myself.         If you could have a piece of oil painting jewelry (pendant, pair of earrings, or ring) with absolutely anything painted on it, what would it be?   (If you prefer wall art instead, same question as above.) A fox? A raven? One of my Shibas? (Toby!)         How do you feel about nick-knacks?   Nope. No space.         What traditions (family, holiday, or otherwise) are important to you? I think its answered in the questionnaire.         Do you like going to the movies? not that much.         What are your favorite restaurants? I'm not sure this would be terribly useful to people who aren't local.         Do you play any video games? no         Do you like any anime? no         Do you have an E-reader/iPad/something similar that you need a cover/case for? no         how much do you like jewelry? like, if you were to get a shit ton of it during the round, how excited would you be? I like jewelry quite a bit. the thing is, I don't wear much more than pendants. I'd be THRILLED to get some, but maybe a shit ton would be a bit much?         How would you like to receive some of your Witch's favorite recipes, tailored to your likes/dietary restrictions? And specific wants? I wouldn't mind a few, but I don't follow a lot of recipes. Though honestly, right now, I could use some tomato recipes!         Do you need any boxes to store your smellies in? What would you store in said hypothetical box--imps, bottles, supplies, all of the above?   I've got the boxes covered, but man, my imps are out of control. So that might be useful. Also, I have long wanted a padded container like those that EOs are kept in to take bottles while traveling. You can see some on my Amazon wishlist if you don't know what I mean.         Muppets: yea or nay? not really.         Do you have an affinity for Calvin and Hobbes, Peanuts, The Far Side, and other comic strips? If so, which is your favorite? I like Calvin and Hobbes, the Far Side, and Hyperbole and a Half.         Favorite Mythological Creature?: I like shapeshifting creatures. Probably the kitsune is my favorite.         Do you like hair things barrettes, headbands, flowers: no         Expanding on the hair question - does anyone like those flower clips for the hair that are big right now??: No!

Autumn swap help! (links!)

Ok my dear mystery swappers, I thought I'd start with a post that has some details about things I like so I can give help to my (future) witch, and my "protect your neck" crafter too!   I believe this links are also in my "sw help" link, but in case anyone comes over here looking for them, they're here too! etsy profile (under same name, cuervosueno. This will get you to my wishlist) For the scarf swap, I just included a whole lot of things I like the style of. They may not necessarily be in my favorite colors or materials. For SW, these are just things I like, and I mark them for myself, so understand I don't expect anyone to get me this stuff, but it will give you an idea of my tastes! Amazon wishlist This one is probably totally useless for the "protect your neck" swap, but a SW might find it more useful, though it is mostly books, and still somewhat random. SW Help This one is the same link that is in my sig, just placed here to have everything in one place. It lists things I like, simply to give my future witch ideas. Note for my scarf swapper Looking at scarves on etsy gave me a better idea of what I like. I like cowls and moebius scaves quite a bit, though I also love simply plain old scarves too. I am attracted to texture: I like varying textures quite a bit. I tended to go for the chunkier styles and less delicate, though some of the delicate ones were attractive as well. I really don't like acrylic, though (I've just never found away for it not to be horribly staticky!) I do like natural fibers. Wool can be iffy, though, as I'm a bit sensitive to it unless it is very soft, and if it's itchy I'll be less likely to wear it. I know I can wear cashmere and alpaca and mohair and some merino, but I also know that stuff is way too expensive. I'm sorry if this makes it difficult! I do like cotton, and rayon and linen and bamboo and silk and even polyester fleece, which is not as bad on the static front. I like soft things! Colors I like include purple and jewel tones as I said in the questionnaire, but as I was looking at things, I realized in knit or crocheted things, I was also very attracted to soft greys and browns, and soft, moss greens. I also liked autumn colors, and an autumn palette could even make orange or yellow work, if it is simply part of a brown, autumnal mix. I loved scarves that had varigated colors, mixs of blues or blues with purples, or blues and greens, or purples and pinks, etc. I enjoy rich, deep reds as well. For nonknitted things, I love "pashmina" style wraps--long and wide to wind around the body. I'd be delighted with something like that, hand dyed or painted, something sarong like to wrap around my shoulders. I also was intrigued by some of the t-shirt material cowls if it was something creative and fun. There are a lot of kind prints I would find appealing for non knitted things: animals, abstract florals, leaves (oh, I love things with leaves and especially ginko leaves!), skulls/skeletons and other "goth" inspired patterns, birds, abstract designs, etc. In silk scarves especially, I'd be much more open to brighter colors than I am in knitted things: there is something about the way silk takes dye and paint that makes me wiling to branch out into brighter colors. I'm also happy to have shorter scarves in this type of scarf. I'll try to find more examples of dyed/painted/printed scarves to include on my wishlist as examples. And again, remember, I'll love anything you come up with!

Switch Wrap Up

I just wanted to say that I had the most wondrous Witch--Dark Alice!--who really blew me away. So kind and generous! I feel like I have a new friend! I can't thank her enough!   Also, now the my witchee knows who I am, gotta say, too, that my witchee was wonderful! Jencallisto was a pleasure to stalk, was always quick to post that she'd got things, and was just a joy! Another new friend!   Thanks, too, to all the many ringleaders who made this possible.   My love to you all!

SW fall '10 ketchup

Arggh! any editing of a post makes the formatting go all wonky, so yeah, my bold/not bold is now all bold. I am leaving it. Hrrrmph! AND...it also takes out spaces out...Really, really annoying. Ketchup again! 9/22/10 Do you have a deviantart print wishlist or favourites list? no Is there anything from Blooddrop that you want to try? GC? Halloween update? haven't tried them....wouldn't be against it, but I don't need another addiction. What kind of shoes do you need/want? What size shoes do you wear? Would you mind gently used shoes? I don't need any shoes except for slippers...I just bought some shoes.... Do you like paper dolls (new or vintage) or coloring in books? not really.... Do you like weird scary things as traditionally girly fashion items like heels and handbags? um...dunno....can't quite figure it. You mean like skull purses or something? That I would like....but I don't wear heels and don't carry a handbag much, so... What song is on heavy rotation for you right now? Nothing in particular. Are you coveting any of the NYCC atmospheric sprays? Not really.... If you could get any one thing hand-painted from your witch, what would it be and what would be on it? Oh, I'd love anything hand painted.... Would you (assumin' you're a yarnie) be interested in a naturally-dyed yarn that's designed to very gradually fade with washing? No need for yarn, I'm afraid. If you have played before, what are some of the most memorable things you've gotten? What really made you go WOW? If you haven't played, same thing, but not limited to SW. I have a little raven with triple moon pendant from Kristana that I wear all the time and it makes me feel safe....Schackjj made me some homemade pecan brittle...I have items that are on my altars--one was a mama brigitte artwork from a favorite artist, one was from another swap, and art swap, but is a mermaid bowl (La sirene). I've been lucky to always have just wonderful witches!   9/21/10 Do you like garlic? Do you REALLY like garlic? Would you want to try some really unusual garlic stuff, like garlic cheese or garlic fudge or garlic chocolate, etc., etc., etc.? I like garlic. I'm not sure about garlic and sweets, but any other garlic flavored things--bring 'em on! Can I talk to you about the living dead? How do you feel about Zombies? I LOVE (and am scared by) Zombies! Love zombie movies--the only gory movies I can watch.   9/20/10 If you happened to be my Witchee, is there something you'd like from the Arcana Halloween update? I'd love some of the soaps. I did buy some of the halloween scents, though. I got Straightjacket and Dia de Los Muertos, and Philtre: Embrace (well that is not a halloween scent). How many bottles of BPAL do you have? A lot, but I'm not a hoarder or slatherer, and I get rid of things that don't work on me. I used to have around 70--now I probably have about 40-50. Is there any exercise program that you're interesting in learning? Meditation, Yoga, Pilates, Belly Dancing, Zumba ect? Or if you do any of these (or anything else sport related) are there any things you need/want? Candles, music, mats, water bottles ect? I'm kind of interested in yoga, pilates, meditation and belly dancing (with the first two being the most important), but I don't know anything about them, so I don't really need anything to go with them yet. Anyone else into Emily Autumn? Guess not since I don't know who she is. What's on your walls? Please show us up to three paintings/posters/whatever. If you love a painting so much that you would steal (to watch it with your greedy eyes) one, please share. I don't have a lot of wall space as the front part of my house is windows. I have aztec snakes painted on the walls behind the woodstove (I painted them). I have some steelwork rara (carnival) figures on the wall from Haiti. I have a Diego Rivera print (La Gran Tenochitilan) above my other fireplace. (I hate hate hate how this wierd formating is breaking up words. WTF is up with that?) do you like Girl Scout cookies? What kind? Yep. Samoas. What's your take on homemade apple butter? Want some? Yep. Would love it!   9/19/10 Do you read/like fantasy? What kind of books or authors do you love? Which one would you like to read? Would you like gifts related to it? Yep. I like urban fantasy (but I like only particular kinds, like Charles de Lint) I do not like Charlene Harris. Patricia Briggs was ok, but not great. I like anything tied to myth and fairy tale (I love ursula le guin, patricia McKillip, but I've read pretty much everything they wrote). Soaps : do you like them? What brands? What scents? Anything you're dying to try? I think I answered that.... I wondered if my witch or any witch would enjoy things like nice pens to draw with or anything similar? I love pens of any and all kinds. For those who are yarnies, would you like other-than-yarn witchery? Hooks, needles? Preference of material? Do you use/would you like handmade stitch markers, etc.? no need for yarn. Does anyone do altered books? Would you be interested in old books to alter? Any type or title in particular? I'm pretty into altered books, but I probably don't need any more books to alter as I haven't done the ones I have yet! Did someone ask about incense yet? Would you like some? Something to store or burn it in? What scents? What form? Oh yes, please! I love incense. I prefer sticks. I also REALLY like loose incense (the kind you burn on charcoal); I burn it on my woodstove in winter, and that season is approaching. I have a ton of copal and frankincense as loose incense, though, more than I will likely ever use. I much prefer resins, woods and spice scents as incense. No fruit, few florals. Any oddball free things you collect or would want saved for you? interesting beer bottle caps   9/18/10 Who likes hair toys, and if so what kind? my hair isn't long enough for this anymore Does any art we may send need to be child safe, either in the actually safe sense or the non X rated sense? Nope! In the knitted/crocheted things area, would you want wrist warmers, 1/2 gloves, a neck warmer(the kind that pretty much just goes around your neck and maybe fastens instead of being long and loose like a scarf), slippers, or hats? Oh, any of these things would be lovely! I think I would like wrist warmers or half gloves most....or maybe slippers.... How do you feel about altered/recycled/upcycled items of clothing or accessories? way cool! Is there anything you want from the Violette Market update? you know, VM didn't really work for me, so no. What is your favourite habitat and climate to live in? How about to visit? (ie. forest, canyons, mountains, by the beach; temperate, tropical...) To live in: I like a dry climate but one that has seasons. Much like where I live: it doesn't rain or snow all the time, but we do get all 4 seasons. I need a lot of sun (even if it is cold when it is sunny). While the beach/ocean is my absolute favorite place to visit, I've never lived by it, and while I might like it, I think what I prefer is mountains/woods. Mostly I need SPACE, and I need to be able to see the horizon. Jungle freaks me out, as does too much greenery (though I enjoy visiting it) What do you wish you could make/craft if you had the know-how and supplies? Specifically, which particular items? Oh, I wish I could knit, but I'm not committed to learning it. I'd knit myself some fingerless gloves! I also can (and should) make myself a rosary type necklace, but haven't done it yet. Is there anything you would like from Conjure Oils general catalogue or the new updates that isn't already on your wishlist? I am only just checking....there are some I am interested in, though Conjure Oils are hit or miss for me (Arcana and BPAL are the two that are the most often WIN for me!) The ones Im interested in are: Mephistopheles, Pazuzu, Abandoned morgue, haunted hayride, witching hour. Am I alone in this, or is there a Book Fair/Comic Con scent you're dying to get your paws on, too? Nothing I'm dying to have. Anyone need address/phone type books? no 9/17/10 Are there any particular movies, tv shows or cd's that you've been meaning to buy for years but just never got round to getting? Would you mind a gently used dvd/cd if your witch had it or could get it?? I can pretty much get everything I need, but thanks... Is there anything from the Possets' Hallowe'en update you're lusting after? Hmmm...don't know if I'm lusting after anything....except, perhaps, Spirit. It's the only one I'll consider buying, I guess. Oh, and Cricket. But I'm intrigued by The girls love ginger, and if the reviews are really gingery I might get it. Also PumPom, phantome, gypsy grave, and dark. Would you like a custom/altered toy either from a seller or from your witch (like My Little Pony, or a Barbie or any particular toy that can be changed?) Ha! I would normally say no, but the toys that are altered to become fetish ponies or fetish barbies crack me up, and since I'm taking so much shit for my former line of work as a dominatrix, sure, I'd take it! Do you like the candy apple, candy corn or pumpkin spice kisses? Not crazy about the first two. Pumpkin spice kisses sound great though! Anne Taintor, anyone? ???   9/16/10 If I were to knit a scarf, would you prefer a skinny one, or a wide one? A short one, that when wrapped once around your neck will just tuck under your jacket, or a long one, at least to your waist? Skinny and long, please! Don't like scarves? Would a rectangular shawl or triangular shawl be more to your taste? I think I like shawls....not sure I have a preference How do you feel about recipes? I would love to get some recipes, esp. low carb ones... What kind of a cook/baker are you? I am a seat-of-the-pants cook....I look at a recipe and get ideas then adjust it to my taste and don't even usually follow them very closely.....I don't bake much, but I do cook.... Are you happiest calling for delivery or microwaving a lean cuisine, Or will Food Network be asking you to host their new program? None of the above. I've never liked frozen stuff. Delivery doesn't come up to where I live. I cook, but I'm only competent at it. I'd say that if I could have my druthers, I'd eat out a lot , at really good places, but I can't so I have to find good things to cook! If I send you something home made would you like the reciepe for it? If the cook was willing to share, I'd love that! If you are someone who doesn't want baked goods sent, would you like a collection of some of my favorite recipes? I'd be happy with recipes, but um....if you have any desire to bake things for me I would be DELIGHTED with them! How could anyone not want baked things? How about home made mixes or kits? Kind of like the cookie in a jar thing, where you would need to add the perishable ingredients? That sounds intriguing too! Ok, I'm trying a totally new blog entry, hoping that will help with my dreadful formatting problems.....   So here is some ketchup! 9/15/10 How do you feek about silly, funny knick-knack, dollar store stuff, stickers, magnets etc? Would you like receiving that kind of stuff or rather not? I love little gifts, so kind of. Magnets are fun and as are stickers, but I have very little space for general knick-knacks. Is there a specific book you've been wanting to get but haven't found the time or the opportunity to? There's probably more than one, but right now I'm really interested in reading the Hunger Games YA series. I tend to get books from the library, but all the libraries here have, srsly, like 29 holds on these books, so it's not likely I'll get them anytime soon! Do you read mangas/watch animes? Which ones? Do you have a particular favourite? Would you like to receive managas or anything related to them? I know nothing about manga, but have always liked the idea....I just don't even know where to start. So if you see anything you think I might like, I'd try it! I like dark fantasy, and sci-fi, and I love animal things...In fact, if anyone is knowledgeable about manga they may know if there are kitsune manga....I've thought there MUST be given how much animal stories are part of Japanese culture, but I wouldn't even know where to begin to look. I know I love graphic novels and memoirs, and have been lusting over the Pride and Prejudice with zombies, and the general collection of zombie comics, but really, I'd be so interested. I've read all the Sandman series and have Gaiman's wonderful book...name is escaping me now....that features Kitsune....it's a collaboration with a Japanese artist...Dream seekers? Something like that. Anyway, stuff like that would be very fun for me. How do people feel about word magnets: I enjoy them, but I have several sets with no place to put them, so probably don't need more. If you could have any costume, or if you aren't into costumes, necklace or other accessory, from any movie character, what would it be? I don't think i have an answer to this one.... How do you feel about samples/decants of things other than BPAL? Soap slices, lotion/scrub/shower gel decants, single use make-up/beauty products, etc. LOVE them! Great for travel, and fun for general sampling. What are you guys going to be aiming for in the Inquisition? Or do you just plan on ordering individual items? I'm not sure that I'm going to order anything as things are tight moneywise with SW and with a whole bunch of dog related expenses. Most of the stuff is expensive, so I absolutely don't expect my witch to get me anything from it, but if I do decide to order anything, I'll post it in the SW thread so there is no possible overlap. I think the thing I'm MOST intrigued by is the Tricksy bath oil, and the Ginger Skulls perfume, though I suspect I would only like a partial of Ginger Skulls.     9/14/10 Chocolate or other types of candy? Chocolate. Or other candy! I don't crave chocolate in the way some people do, because I like savory things more than sweet, but I do LIKE chocolate....esp if it is paired with savory (say peanut butter or caramel or chile or something exotic). And I LOVE fancy truffles but never can justify buying them for myself. And then I love plain old reeses. I am also partial to Smarties that come out at this time of year. But really, my big love is caramel....esp. sea salt caramels. For tea drinkers, do you prefer loose leaf or tea bags? I like loose tea best, but I'm ok with bags. If you would enjoy something of a knitted persuasion, do you have a preference on type of thing? Since making a scarf for someone who has 10 might be a smidge excessive? Also, how do people feel about shawls? Oooh...anything would be wonderful! I have a favorite black cashmere scarf, but I'd be happy to have other soft scarves! I haven't worn a shawl much, but I could see great uses for it--on the plane, while hanging out on the couch (my house isn't terribly warm in the winter). Socks would rock my world, esp. kind of slippery socks. armwarmers or fingerless gloves would be cool! (or fingered ones, come to think of it!) Is there a TV, movie or literary character that you are a lot alike, or would like to be alike? Is there anything you need for your kitchen, ie measuring cups, spoons, grater, ect? I need a good cork screw, but they aren't that cheap, so....What else? I've always kind of wanted one of those small hand graters that are for nutmeg, etc. Actually though of buying one a couple of weeks ago and didn't. Same with parchment paper, and those silicone baking things.... Music, DO you prefer Live or Studio? Edited or explicit? I prefer studio, explicit. If you are an animal lover, is there a specific type/breed that you love most? I love animals, and have answered that some in my original questionnaire. I love all things Nihon-ken, ie. Japanese dog, so Shiba and Akita, particularly! Also flowers and plants- If you like flowers/plants, do you have a favorite(s)? Irises, sunflowers, daffodils, oak and birch trees, ponderosa pine, and eucalyptus. Do you have a favorite quotation? Song lyric? Book passage? WhateverthehecktheycalltheanonymousregionalwisdomthingiePROVERB! that word. I posted some quotes I like in the thread. What is a bpal scent that you've been dying to try for awhile but just can't find? (A scent where even a tester would do) Nothing that anyone could get, I don't think, because my most sought after are really rare.   Is there anything you would like that can be delivered over the internet? Things like fanfic recs, cat macros, mp3s you are looking for, how-to or amusing videos, things like that Sure! Clicker training videos for dogs, What would your last meal be if it could be anything in the world (sky is the limit, drinks too, the whole shebang) Oh, so hard! Because a part of me says go for what I loved best....pizza! But I think if it were last meal, I'd have filet mignon with lots of salt and chipotle pepper, asparagus, some good bread and flavored butter, the best damn pinot noir I could find, and creme brulee for desert. NaNoWriMo? yep

SW Fall '10

9/13/10   Dear witch....I did edit this earlier today and for some reason....sigh...it didn't show up. I'm having such an annoying day that even answering SW questions isn't cheering me (well, answering questions would, but technical problems does not) so I'm going to do my best with these, but I likely have missed some, or rather answered them earlier, and then lost said entries. And I'm having a hell of a time with the formatting. As in it wasn't all bolded when I looked last. Hrrmph!)     9/13/10 what interests you from the latest lab update? check my wishlist! How do you feel about stationery, like nice pens or notepaper? And if you're in favor, do you prefer classic/contemporary or cutesy stuff? I love pens and ALWAYS need more....and gel pens or sharpies in cool colors rock my world, but don't really use stationary, and I do have a lot of random paper around as my husband is a pressman and brings back bits and bobs of paper. However, we can seem to never find notepads or sticky notes, so those are often useful. Anything would be fine, but I probably go more cute (in probably only this one case!) If you've got stuff on your BPAL wishlist, would partial bottles be okay? Yes! I prefer partial bottles in fact, as I have never used a full bottle. Would you like something you have to make yourself? Like a kit? I would be into this! Say you were my witchee, and I found things on your wishlist that I could totally make. Would you want me to make it? Or would you rather it be purchased for you? I would LOVE this! I'm happy either way, I mean, but it would be extra special and cool if you made it! Who is your favorite soap etailer? I like Scent Addict and Soap Box company because they have a whole lot of soaps. The one I've been wanting to try most is Paintbox Soaps, and also the soaps made by our own Galahad (I can't remember the name now, but they are probably linked in his profile or sig?) But the ones I've tried that I love are Arcana and Magic Hands. What about vintage decoration items, teacups, etc etc? Hmmm....might like it, depends on what it is. I don't collect anything like this, though. With regards to your gifts, would you prefer your presents' awesomeness evenly spread out (several packages of pretty terrific things) over the round or a slow build-up of awesomeness (going up from pretty cool things to something super-duper cool at the end) to go out with a bang? Do you have a preference? entirely up to my dear witch! What kind of make-up do you wear? What colors? Is there anything you'd like to try but haven't yet? I don't really wear much make up. I like eyeshadow, but never wear it Who would be on your top 5 (IE famous people you'd date/have relations with ) hmmm.....It's not like I don't have celebrity crushes or lust after the unattainable, it's just that right now I'm drawing a blank. Do you crave many Ecards and contact or are you okay with little contact from your Witch? I think I answered this in the thread and on my ?naire, but I do like to have a lot of contact.... Do you have a place where you list all the BPAL you have or have tried? Scentbase profile, linked in my sig, though it only has a portion of what I've tried. Do you like maple sugar candy? I like it, but it's not my absolute fave. What is your position on the chocolate & bacon flavor combination? One of my former swappers gave me some, and it was pretty good. Not to die for, but worth trying for sure. I like wild and out there combs for chocolate. If you are a tea-drinker do you need a tea-cozie for your pot? Probably not. I don't use my pot often enough for it to get cold (and it's a small pot) Go to your spice cabinet, what are the three most used spices? good question! The sea salt with dried garlic grinder, black and the red (which is a black pepper/red pepper combo) and either lemon pepper (no salt) or the trinidad seasoning (garlic, lemon, salt, allspice, red pepper with some other spices). Or one of my various Tabascos. Or dried chipotle pepper. Microsoft or Apple? Mac all the way!!!! Where was your last vacation? What did you like most? I haven't been on a real vacation for years. Last time I took a real trip it was to Haiti, almost 3 years ago. What I liked the most is what I always like: people watching, seeing new places, trying new foods. Would you appreciate receiving handwritten letters and/or postcards (anonymous or not)? How about sending them? Sure! Do you hate any food things with a passion?? Yep. Beets. Endive. Licorice. Liver. celery. Would you be opposed to receiving a digital version (via email) of a magazine you like but don't subscribe to...you know, in the interest of saving a tree? Sure, that would be cool, though I do prefer reading things in hard copy....I like to read in the bathtub   9/12/10   Would you enjoy homemade bath products (bath salts, fizzies, etc.) and/or linen sprays? Esp. if scented with some of your favorite BPAL scents? My question, but yes! If you witch made you something and it didn't come out just right, would you still want it? same as above....yes! I'd still love it, esp. if you regaled me with the story of what you intended! Are you a foodie? I think so....meaning I'm only a competent cook, but I love food, and appreciate well-prepared food and interesting combos, and like to read food mags (though I don't subscribe to any) and watch Top Chef, etc! Any sports fans in the house? What's your favorite sport/team/player? Not really For holidays, do you decorate? Would you like decorative stuff, weenie or otherwise? If so, do you lean towards the elegant, the crafty/folksy, or the more, erm, campy? I don't decorate much, but I do like halloween/dia de los muertos stuff esp if I can use it on my holiday altars. Do you like journals/notebooks/sketchbooks? I do like some fancy ones, but honestly, I pretty much do all my journaling online in macjournal. Some things I missed: Favorite Halloween/Scary movies/books i'm wimpy, and don't watch many scary movies because gore and violence freaks me out in movies.....it just gets stuck in my head, and I can't deal. But atmospheric scary movies work (like Rosemary's Baby, or stuff like that), and even though they are graphically violent, I do like zombie movies. I do like scary novels though. Peter Straub's Ghost Story is my favorite horror book, but I also like The Shining and others. COMIC BOOKS. Do you read them? Are there any series you like, or some you would like to try? I want the zombie comic books--there are two series, one of which is written by a forumite! I love Neil Gaiman's stuff. I'm really into graphic novels/graphic memoir like Alison Bechdal's Fun Home.       9/4/10 Are you into Austen's books? Wow, I'm an English professor and just realized I've never read Jane Austen. How can that be, you ask? My literary field was 20th century American lit. Still, I should read her, yes? Do you read Tarot cards? If not, would you be interested? I LOVE tarot cards and anything Tarot related. These are the decks I have: Voodoo Tarot of New Orleans (my main deck), World Spirit Tarot, Animal Divine Tarot, Golden Tarot, a standard Rider Waite deck, and the Alchemy Tarot, but there are plenty of others I would love. Really, almost any. I didn't mean to become a collector of Tarot decks, but I kind of am. So for those of you who are into Harry Potter at all, which house do you think you'd be sorted into? I only read one of the books. People have told me I would like them if I read the ones where he is older, like the Halfblood prince (is that the name?) but I don't know. I could be convinced if I got the book, I guess. What, if anything, is your guilty TV watching pleasure? I don't watch much TV. I used to like Top Chef and Project Runway, and the guilty pleasure was America's Next Top Model, but basically I just don't watch much TV.   If you cosplay or need a costume for your bellydance/burlesque hobby (or any other hobby which needs dressup/different from your normal wear), is there anything you need/want for it? I wish I had something like this, but I have no cosplay or anything like that. Celebrity crush?: Johnny Depp, of course. George Clooney. Knitted things?: LOVE! What about [mixed or otherwise] DVDs? I love mixed CDs/DVDs/mp3 music mixes. But I really love music mixes in CD formula because I listen to music a lot in the car, and have a very old CD player than can't play MP3 cds. DVDs: Do you prefer widescreen or formatted? Either Music: Any preference towards MP3 or CD? CD, see above. Do you like scented tarts? Yep!! Lip balms? You know, I pretty much just use Rosebud Salve, but if it was moisturizing with no sun screen, I'd try it! Do you have any body mods? If so, do you need any new jewelry, o-rings, plugs, etc (and if so, what size, length, etc)? Do you like pro-body mod stickers? tats and pierced ears, that's all. I hardly wear earrings anymore. Booze. Do you drink it, would you like some Yes, I drink! I like good hoppy beers, but will try almost any type of beer, but do not like Porters or real malty beers. I like good, dry wine(And an occasional dessert wine) and adore sparkling wines. I would like try to mead. I like ciders. I like good rum, which for me is almost only Haitian so that's probably not useful info. What is your favorite artist or art style? (including if you have links to favorite pictures/paintings/photographs) I like folk art, and I think I answered this in my questionnaire....   Girlyness level? Medium. Tomboy? Sexy biker mama? (Did I just say that?) I wear jeans and ts and leather and boots and some make up, but not regularly.   9/02/10 Baked goods: the LOVE! Spoil me all you want with those! Gifts for other household members: Ok, but not needed. My dogs would enjoy toys, but they have a lot, and since they are destructive, if you choose to do this, it should be something cheap. They are on a grain-free diet, too. My husband doesn't need anything and even I find him hard to buy for so, I'd say no. Are you someone who'd rather have lots of small testers of different things on your wishlist, or would you rather have one or two "big" things? Testers of rares would would be wonderful. I'll be happy with anything. But I do prefer partial bottles to imps, rare stuff aside.   social networking usernames, ie twitter, facebook, livejournal, ravelry, anything else: Here is my fb profile I'll put it up on SW for friending to start, so you won't be given away would you like to receive Groupons or similar deals/gift certificates from your Witch? I guess? Not sure I know what they are, but I like a good deal as much as anyone! How about tshirt/bottoms sizes? I wear an xl or xxl in BPTP shirts. Probably an xl but I don't mind the looseness of the bigger size. Bottoms depend. I tend to get xl, but I am a size 12-14 so it depends.   symbols? foxes, ravens, owls, vodou veves (esp. for Legba) or vodou designs, spirals, moons.     Do I leave the old SW answers? I guess so, but they are old! Here is the new Fall '10 SW answers. this time around, I think I'll just update/edit this one entry when I have new questions/answers:   9/7/10 Socks? Anyone? Yes! Socks are good, and I need something to fit under boots that don't have holes in them! What is something you use to comfort yourself when feeling yucky, depressed, or in pain? Have a good beer and take a bath, with bubbles!     9/6/10 When you go to an etsy wishlist, it will tell you what things are sold. If you click on the sold item, sometimes it will give options that are similar to what was sold, but not identical, would you like the similar item or prefer not to get it at all unless it's the same item? How picky are you? Not picky. I leave this stuff up so people can get an idea of what I like, but also so I can see it, because often I'm looking at jewelry and thinking, can I make that? So it is just ideas, that's all! Do you wear make up? I occasionally wear makeup--eye shadow and lipstick. I love to play with it. I don't really wear it much though. I do paint my toenails, though! Disney movies, Yay or Nay, and favourites if you do like them? NO! Do you have A VCR, DVD Player or Blue Ray or a combo of the three? DVD Would you like custom icons as a gift? Oh, that would be very cool!   9/5/10 What is your favourite snack food, something you could grab any time? cheese, nuts (trail mix), yogurt (when I'm trying to be healthy) but there are plenty of things I love (some listed in my questionnaire) that are not so healthy. I like pita chips in particular for salt. I like dried veggies and spicy snack mixes. Ebooks Sadly, I have no way to read them. Nail Polish: Yes, I always have toe nail polish on. Soft/plushy things: I do like some of the things from think geek, and I often think plushies are cute, but I have to admit I'd have to keep them away from the dogs, who also love them. But are considerably harder on them! (So it wold probably have to be small enough to be kept up). What hobby/craft would you like to learn how to do? I think this is covered in my questionnaire and in my SW help thread. For those who decorate for Halloween, do you prefer cute decorations or creepy ones?: Also, as part of the cute-or-creepy question, would you want hand made, molded, glazed (by yours truly!) ceramic decorations (napkin rings, potporri/tart warmers, etc) to add to your stock? Creepy! Some cute stuff is cool too, though I definately go more for the creepy! And handmade anything is wildy cool! I'd be so happy to get these kinds of things! (probably wouldn't use napkin rings, though). how do you feel about mortars and pestles I have been wanting one forever! I never buy one, but always mean to! Is there anything you have a phobia of, or that would make you go "squick" if you saw it in a package? Well, clearly fake spiders are ok, but I don't really like them, and same with cockroaches. Ick. And eyeballs. (All halloween related stuff, obviously).

New round of Switchwitchery means new questions...

...and answers.   So here is the first round of Fall 09 questions I'm trying to catch up, well before the round even begins!   What are everyone's favorite Halloween-y/Autumn-y/spooky movies? Are there any you don't own but would like to? Hmmm...I don't know...I like spooky but not much real horror as it is usually too gory for me. I guess I'm pretty much covered on this.   Are roasted pumpkin seeds and home made chex mix the best fall snack foods, or what? I could eat the roasted pumpkin seeds, but chex mix (which is delicious) would send my blood sugar soaring, so, no thanks.   Whats your favorite pie, my dear SW's? I love pie, but it's another of the things diabetics (and people who are seriously close to being diabetic, like me) shouldn't really eat. That said, my favorites are coconut cream, raspberry or blackberry, and raspberry rhubarb. Oh, and lemon cream too. Oh there were so many. I find pie much preferable to cake.   What kinda socks are you wearing tonight? No socks...not cold enough yet. Actually, I pretty much only wear socks when I'm wearing boots, which would mean out of the house. Otherwise, wooly slippers do the trick. And wooly flip flops, which I'm wearing now.   Do you like socks? Blankets? Wrist warmers? Arm warmers? Headband? Shawl? Or what kind of knitted thing would you love the most? I love socks, though, see above, I only wear them when I'm out of the house. Don't let that stop you from thinking of them as a possibility though--I've been very very envious of those getting sock dream gifts or, even better, hand knit socks! But I'm even more interest in arm warmers. Or gloves. But really, if someone was hand knitting something for me I'd be delighted by anything.   How do you feel about ghost stories? Do you like to tell the old tales around a campfire? Read true accounts on the web way past your bedtime? Do you like to pick up a good anthology of Poe stories on a blustery day? Or is all that too scary for you? I LOVE ghost stories, esp. true ones. My last Witch was Kristana, the ghost hunter (ok, paranormal investigator) and she sent me her book, which I read straight through right away.   Who here is LOVING Warehouse 13? Haven't watched it yet, but maybe it is time.   Nother question! Coffee or Tea? Both, but at the moment, coffee would get more use. Love it. Dark roast. whole bean. Flavors? No nuts. But cinnamon or some other spice, or vanilla, or chocolate would be lovely.   Interested in locally produced products? Food, skincare or both? Sure!   Does anyone in here wear a lot of dangly earrings or collect pendants of all kinds? How about hair clips or pony tail band things? Pendants, yes. I love dangly earrings but can't remember the last time I wore earrings, so they probably wouldn't get much play.   What is your favourite historical period? This one. Hmmm....I'm not interested in historical periods per se, but history does interest me, esp. American history.   What other hot beverages everyone likes for fall? Cider is delish.   Did you order anything from the most recent update? Not yet. But I know there is stuff I want. I will probably order some weenies, but in case my witch is feeling flush and wants to send me some, I'll update my wishlist by indicating which ones I'm likely to order or have ordered.   Olive oil? Oh yeah. And flavored vinegar. Yum.   Lavender? No. Well, that means I don't like it in fragrance. I like it as a seasoning, and I love fresh lavender, like if my witch wanted to somehow miraculously send me a real lavender plant through the mail I would with great delight plant it in my herb garden. Dried lavender sprigs are saved for purpose magical and mundane. But I hate the way it smells in perfume.   Vampires or Werewolves? Or some other monster? Oh...zombies. One of these days I will buy the zombie survival guide (or won't--it may be one of those things I want but never buy). I like werewolves if they are really creatures that turn into wolves.   Any Gamers here? What kind? Board games? RPG? Miniature? MMORPG? I like board games. RPG and MMORPG are fun but I'm not playing any now unless unicreatures counts.   Imagine that you're given a shoebox-sized time capsule, and you are asked to put any number of items in the box that symbolize who you are. The items can be may be anything you can imagine, and money is no object, but they must fit within the box. Which items do you choose? A fox fetish and an owl fetish. a book of my poetry (it might bit folded, but...). Photos of my dogs. a black leather glove. Frankincense and copal resin. The Voodoo Tarot of New Orleans. Feathers. A mix CD. A bit of dirt from the Santuario at Chimayo NM.   Are you involved in any long-term, ambitious project? Too many. Since I'm a writer, there are so many on-going projects: a memoir. A collection of short stories. And this year I'm going to do nanowrimo since I have not one but two genre novels to try out. Also I'm learning to sew and play the djembe and paint with acrylics. My life is a work in progress!   Is anyone playing this round of SW into ABJ? I love looking at pics of them, and have to admit a desire to have one, but probably won't ever get one.   favorite kind or take out kinda burger? whats your burger preference? veggie, meat or ???? I love burgers. My fave are from a local bar, called the black and blue burger: blackened burger with blue cheese. I prefer gourmet burgers.   Whats your favorite childhood toy? stuffed animals, books, a simple bouncy rubber ball, and my bike.   If you have a pet, what kind of gifts would be good for them? My dogs would love gifts, but the German Shepherd shouldn't eat grains, though the other two can. Kai would love a bouncy ball. The shibas would love anything, but don't need anything, and will be seriously interested in any packages whether it includes anything for them or not.   Do you Tweet? What is your Twitter name? No. I think it would annoy me.   Are you on Ravelry? What is your Ravelry name? I don't knit.   Would any witches be interested in home-made sewn type crafts? If so, what type? (e.g. tote bags, pillowcases, laptop covers, etc..) I love homemade stuff, and anything my witch wanted to come up with would be mightly appreciated. I could use a couple more Tarot bags, probably.

more SW questions

More Fall SW questions:   any cooks? could you use anything cooking related? aprons? cookbooks? measuring cups? recipes? herb/spice containers? fancy spices? dish towels? cocktail napkins? amazing beaded pot holders? (like from our very own pottersville!) something else?   I'm eating low carb, so those kinds of recipes/cook books would be welcome. Spices are always great, and measuring devices are always in short supply around here. Dish towels too--I love those flower sack type. I am cooking a lot more since I have to.....     are you an avid reader? what's your favorite book/series?   I love to read, and can't think of favorites because there are so many. I'm still not happy that George RR Martin didn't finish the fire and ice series. One of my favorite literary series was Madison Smartt Bell's series on the history of Haiti (Master of the Crossroads et al).   an anonymous benefactor gives you $500 (or an equivalent amount of money in your currency of choice) with the following stipulations. You must spend all of it within a week: any money left unspent must be returned. You must spend at least half of the money on yourself. You may not use it to pay off debts or bills of any kind. what do you do with the money?   Of course I would have used it for bills, so good thing that stipulation was in there! I'd probably make a big BPAL order since I haven't ordered in the longest time. I'd take my boyfriend out to dinner and wouldn't let him pick where we'd go since he'd pick some place cheap. Or better yet, take the whole amount and go somewhere for the weekend? Now that sounds more fun.....

more SW ketchup...

What GC scent have you been putting off getting since it'll "always be there"? Several, actually. Antique Lace. Troll. White Rabbit. March Hare. And there are the ones I haven't even tried yet...   Are you interested in things like home remedies for ailments, cleaning solutions, etc.? Sure!     In your perfect world it is chocolate and...? Chocolate is kind of "meh" for me...I enjoy it but don't crave it. But I like it with caramel. Or peanut butter.   How do you scent your home Tarts, reed diffusers, BPAL, candles? Candles, kind of, meaning I always need them and like scented ones, but I don't rely on them for scent. I use incense and BPTP (and other) atmosphere sprays.

SW redux

*Could you use a 'travel' imp case? How many should it hold? I have one, but I could use another. It only needs to hold about 6 imps. I'm crazy about little containers in general....   *As a witchee, would you prefer to have many little packages sent to you throughout the round with a not-so-big final package or fewer things throughout the round with one HUGE final package to seal the sweetness? I'm fine with whatever works for my witch.   *What is your idea of the perfect evening at home? After a good dinner with the BF, a good book, and me curled up on the couch with Toby, my dog, sleeping on the back of the sofa. With a good beer.     *How often do you update your wishlist? - Not as often as I should. As of this date, my dear witch, I have not updated them, and my BPAL wishlist in particular is out of date. I will do it in the next couple of days.   *May I help you fill out your costuming wardrobe (assuming you costume)? Are there articles you are seeking to enhance your a) Halloween costume, Renfest attire, c) Cosplay, d) Steampunk accouterment? Hmm...I don't really costume, but somehow all of this just really intrigues me....so small costumey stuff would be fun, probably in terms of steampunk or renfest....just small period touches to add to regular outfits.   *Who are your favorite artists/illustrators/art periods? - I love folk art, esp. Haitian, African, Mexican and Native American. I love artists with a folk art feel. Some of my favorites are Thalia Took, Susan Seddon Boulet, Diana Bryer, Franz Marc, hmm...and others....I enjoy goddess art and animals, esp. if they have that folk art look. I don't like realist art.   *Do you mind receiving used (in good condition, of course) CDs or DVDs? (I know this question was on the questionnaire about books, but I didn't see one for DVDs or CDs.) - Used CDs and DVDs are great!   *what's your stance on cranberries? -   *Do you have a crush on anyone famous? Do you have a crush on any literary characters? Would you like fanfiction or fan art based on this/these people? - I'm not crazy about fanfic/fan art.   *You're at home, or out, and you want a snack. Something that will get you through to the next meal, or through to the end of school or what ever. What do you grab? - Nuts or cheese....something low carb. Even before my need to go low carb, I prefered salty snacks.

SW, SW, SW!

Adding some questions for my SW's illumination (or overwhelmation....oh, shoot, that isn't a word! )   ***6/29*** Do you like coconut? yeah, but I like coconut milk/cream mostly, and probably am not crazy about coconut unless it is simply an ingredient in something else. Puddin' posts ebay sales of older stuff every now and then - what of the current lot are you dying for? Nuttin'. I've pretty much tried and passed on anything I would want from that list. Do you tweet? Nope What kind of mythology are you interested in? All kinds, but especially African, Celtic, Native American, Japanese. But really, it all intrigues me, except that while I'm not against Egyptian, I'm also not terribly compelled by it, and the same is true of Classic Greek/Roman....I mean, I know it fairly well, am conversant in how it shows up in literature, but it doesn't really speak to me. ***6/28***   Do you wear makeup or nail polish? Need brushes, containers, storage, mani/pedi supplies? What colors and brands do you like? I don't wear much makeup (but am still fascinated by mineral makeup esp. eyeshadow. I desperately need brushes. I LOVE nailpolish, though I mostly just do my toes, with occasional forays into fingernails. I like reds with blue undertones, purples, gold/bronze, black, sparkly stuff in all fun colors, though I tend to go for pink/red/orange on the toenails (I'm WAY more adventurous on the toenails....on the fingernails I pretty much stick to cool (ie winter/blue undertones) which I know will look ok with my skintone.   Do you like shiney hanging porch decorations like windchimes or those things that spin and swirl in the wind? Oh my yes! Was absolutely craving windchimes recently (though I want them to sound good!). And those spinning things? Love 'em! Garden things or things to hang in trees fascinate me!   Hair adornments? My hair is not conducive to this in its current layerd state.   Is there any infomercial product you're dying to try even though you know it probably sucks? I don't watch enough tv to know....   What are your favorite websites (besides this one, and the online shops you listed in your questionnaire)? Oh! everyone has totally enabled me on this, but at the moment, right now, I'm mostly occupied by unicreatures.     Do you tweet? I'm not listening! I'm not listening! I refused facebook for the longest time too, but really, I am NOT going to do Twitter.     With all this talk of chocolate, do you prefer milk or dark? Some go better with some flavors, but generally I prefer milk. That said, if it is exotic and interesting, dark works ok. I don't like plain chocolate of either stripe, and since I'm not really a chocoholic, what appeals more is the the flavors it is mixed with. Exotic and interesting will get my attention.   What of the summer update (Egyptian, Lawn Ornaments, etc.) appeals most to you? I am interested in sniffing the goat one and Laboris solis (which I am sure I misspelled) I got St. John's Eve and it is   Do you have an electric stove, and would you like a bowl and tarts to use the residual heat (and for extra safety)? What an intriguing idea! (I actually HATE having an electric stove, but since I'm stuck with it, this might just make it more appealing!)       More questions!   ***6/24*** Are you obsessed with honey? If so, is there a particular kind you like best? Spun honey, flavored honeys, certain types of honey....etc.   ***I like honey, but I don't think I really need any at the moment.   What are your favorite materials? Or material things? Some people like jewelry, some like woods, some plants...   ***Materials: wood, silk, velvet, linen, leather (esp. deerskin), crystal/glass Material things: hmmm....candles! books, other things are probably covered in questionnaire (ie. like bath stuff...)   Is there anything you've been wanting to learn that your witch might be able to help you with?   *** African hand drumming? Ie. on djembe drum which I am debating buying. I don't know that my witch could help with this though Also painting (acrylics) and drawing. I suppose what could be helpful, if my witch is so-inclined, is books, mags, etc. about this stuff...     What, if anything, are you earwormed with right now? **Two songs from the Indigo Girl's latest cd, Sugar Tongue and...well, I don't know the name of the other one     What scent are you wearing right now, if any?   **Arcana adoration, and witch, dear, I must admit that I am highly likely to purchase some Arcana during this round. Please don't hate me!   Who knits? Do you also spin and dye? What supplies, that you wouldn't buy for yourself, would you just love to have for that activity? ***no, not me.   Are there any other knitted goods you might like? Lap blanket? Fingerless gloves? Arm warmers? Little knitted animals? Silk scarf? Head band? Wrist cuff? Dish cloths? ***oh! Socks of course, but also fingerless gloves. arm warmers. silk scarf.   Do you like coffee? Whole bean or ground? Bold/Medium/Mild roast? ***LOVE it! Whole bean. Bold roast--darker the better. I don't really like flavored coffees except will drink vanilla/chocolate or cinnamon on occasion (and right now I am on a cinnamon kick which means putting a stick in the brew thingy) I like Indonesian (batak esp. which comes from Lake Toba which is a beautiful place I have very fond memories of) and Guatemalan esp (though the neither is that bold). I mostly drink french roast or italian roast though.

More SW questions

More SW questions!   Anyone reading an amazing book right now?   ** Not that the moment, though I have a huge stack of academic books on vodou to go through, and tey all look interesting.   What socially respsonsible site would you recommend to ALL Witches?   **Southern Poverty Law Center   What is your favorite anime, or if you don't like that what is your favorite animated series?   **.Hmmm....I don't know anime at all and don't know that I have a favorite animated series, though I like The Boondocks and Southpark     Tea. How do you feel about it?   **I like tea and mate and herbal teas and rooibois, so yeah, I like it! Loose tea is better. In the summer I really enjoy herbal teas.   Would my future witchee like to receive steampunk style jewelry?   ** That would be lovely!   Salt soap bars (soap made with a large quantity of salt, like salt-scrub-in-a-bar)? **No thanks I don't even like salt scrubs, though I do like sugar scrubs.   How would you feel about homemade jelly/jam from home-grown berries? Homemade Pickles?   **Homemade jam would be lovely, homemade pickles probably wouldn't get eaten, though I gotta admit that pickled green beans are delicious!

Summer O9 SW help...

[***6/22*** Based on Prior Carnivale act prototypes...which one are you truly excited about? **I have no thoughts on this as I haven't been looking at the prototypes, but if I do, I'll add them here.   Would it bother you if you are not the first person to receive the same gift? Imagine a Witch who always sends her favourite book, for example. **Absolutely not! Great idea!   Pets: What do you have, and do they need/want anything? **Three dogs: two Shibas, a German Shepherd. They can only eat treats that have no grains in them, so they are kind of hard to buy for. The German Shepherd loves squishy balls, and as he is getting older and sicker, he would probably love a ball (cheaper the better, btw). The Shibas like squeeky toys, but the GSD tends to destroy them.   Does anyone play video games? What platform(s)? Are there any new or vintage games you would like? ** Not really...   Twilight fans, would you be interested in any products from this Etsy seller? If so, add the items you like to your Etsy favorites and make sure your wishlist is posted somewhere for your witch.   **NOT a Twilight fan.   Are you in need of decanting supplies, wand caps, or other scent-related paraphernalia? **Yes, yes, yes! I'm seriously in need of empty imps but haven't bought any for awhile.   ***6/20-21*** Are there any single notes (likely non bpal) that anyone is dying to have/try? **Oh, I'm interested in all sorts of SNs. Look at my list to see what I like note-wise--Any of those would be great. But right now I'm especially on the prowl for a really good strong black tea note (without citrus). Keep meaning to get the one from Conjure Oils but still haven't. I got one from From Nature With Love and it is not as strong as I had hoped. Also would like to try all sorts of resins (copal would rock my world but I haven't seen it around), pear, vanillas....   net flick or the likes gift subscriptions? A month of Netflicks vs a DvD? **I let my Netflix subscription swap, so probably not.   Adorable Japanese characters? **If you could find Shiba ones or fox ones, yes. Otherwise, no.   My fiance sent me an early dvd rip of Coraline that he was given (pretty sure it's not been released yet, but I sometimes have a hard time keeping up) and I was wondering if anyone would like a copy of it? **Yes!   Do you collect dolls or miniatures? What kind? Do you like to get new clothes or items for them? **Not traditional ones. I collect Native American animal fetishes. Except for ball-jointed dolls, dolls kind of creep me out (and the BJD's or so expensive I'll likely never have one). Miniatures? Oh sure! Animal miniatures (esp. realistic ones) are so fun. And I'd love zombie miniatures!   If you were to make a seasonal mix CD for this summer, what would you name it? ***no idea   Would you like any recycle/upcycle supplies for your crafting? **yes--altoid tins, leather/fabric scraps, magazines with great pics or and fancy paper scraps, anything that can be used for collage or altered art.   Is there a program you might have missed or show you love which is gone from the airwaves which might be found (or burned) for you by a Witch? **no   Do you play any online games, like World of Warcraft? If so, what server do you play on, what's your character's name, etc.? **only the little sig. games like unicreatures, dragon adopters, etc.   Would anyone like bath bombs or bath melts scented with one of their favorite Bpal scents? I do these for myself sometimes and find them to be quite enjoyable. **YES! Any and all bath bombs or bath melts or bubble bars should be sent my way! I would adore this!   Would you like homemade cinnamon buns or sticky buns? I would love any and all home made treats, though small amounts, since I'm trying to diet. Also, things may melt if it is hot here, so that might be a concern.   Any non NZ or Aus witchee that I get gets Tim Tams, OK? **I would love Tim Tams--though I don't know if this is a question....   ***6/19*** For non-US witches: is there anything from the US you'd love that you can't get where you live now? **I'm a US witch, but I'm always on the lookout for the elusive ginger altoids. So if they have those where you are, I'd love them. Or any ginger candy, for that matter.   How many potential witchees have an iPod, or download MP3s? **Yes!   ***6/18*** Are there any of the BPTP bath oils you adore (particularly ones that you cannot get anymore). What about the room sprays? **I love the oils, and would love to try more of them. Would like to try the Warrior Queens, and would love more L'estate. Room sprays? I'm dying for more of The Queen's Croquet Ground, but would also be interested in Sugar Skull and possibly others.   How would you feel about an ultra-girlie shawl or wrap in summer-weight (lace)? **Yep! In black or plum..   What would you think of hand-dyed items? **Ha! I asked this question, and the answer is yes, though like others, I'm not much for bright traditional tye-die, but I love the subtle patterns of Low Water Immersion Dyeing.   So, I hear you don't like lacy wraps! How do you feel about hand-knit socks? **Yep! That would rock my world.   ***6/17*** What kinds of crafts does everyone either enjoy making or enjoy getting? Do you have a certain type of handmade item that you love to collect? Socks, boxes, jewelry, dolls etc? **I make altered art, collage and some clumsy jewelry. and hand dyed items. I would welcome any handcrafted item, but particularly jewelry or boxes or a Tarot bag...(I really need one!)

unfortunate dinners and The Alchemist's Assistant

I guess I need to get used to the whole blog thing. Right now it still feels self-indulgent--who would want to read this? I suppose I should get over that, seeing as I'm a writer, and its a question I've often asked myself before (and discounted as unimportant).   (Dog break: Toby and Bel are playing tug of war with one of my favorite shoes. When I called out Toby, NO! he looked quite surprised.)   Anyway, not a day I can report anything of interest on. Its spring here in NM which is lovely--in the 70's today, and I had a good dinner at a new Japanese restaurant. But the place was more expensive than I expected, and I stressed about the cost, then my BF (who makes twice as much money as me) made a big deal out of the price (though we split the bill), and then went on to say how he was sick of paying for everything. which is a reflection on his previous women, not me, and I was in the odd position of both thinking, well, I've never asked you to pay my way, asshole, and then at the same time thinking: so why'd you pay for all of them and not me?   Ugh. I hate arguing about money, so I just left. Ruined my quite good dinner, I must say. But I did take some very good sushi home and feed it to my fox-dogs--since they're Japanese and all--and they liked it. And Kai, my german shepherd, had a piece too.   Well, I don't know if I'll always put a poem up with each entry, but here's another--this one from book #2 (In an Angry Season). I wrote this long before I ever dreamed of BPAL....   The Alchemist's Assistant   Lovely as the native birds that fly overhead unseen, the alchemist’s assistant feeds him corn gruel and chilies, sweeps the pitiful grate. Sings in her primitive way. Gathers the base stones, silent as severed tongues, which the alchemist cannot force into gold. In the windowless tower, the workshop is frigid with his frustration, dumb with his dogged desire. He has grown old here and still the stones refuse to yield. He mutters incantations and spells, pale eyes unfocused, while around him the world is littered with substances precious and rare: the assistant’s skin--copper ore, her black pearl eyes, and outside the lapis sky and cinnamon hills. The myrrh-thick garden between her thighs. He caresses the stones as another man would her breasts. In his dreams, she rides him like a nightmare, a vortex his secrets are sucked into. Her hands roam over his parchment skin and she plucks at his power like a string. And laughs. She treats him like an arrogant child-- with his foreign formulas, his old world computations, his numerical desires. He’s stubborn and inert as stone.   Tucked away in his tower of useless words, he withers. But the alchemist’s assistant leaves the workshop every day. She gathers the stones by calling their names--clicks of her tongue, syllables of silver, turquoise and jade. They flock to her and sing their stories. For her, the stones unlock their shy mysteries and shine. For her, mistress of the new world.

Greetings from the House of the fox-dogs

Or should I call it Shiba madness?   I have three dogs, a german shepherd named Kai who is mostly good (though once he did attack a car), and two devilish fox-dogs (aka Shiba Inus) named Toby and Jezebel. Toby is two, Jezebel (Bel) is 8 mos. Toby is not terribly foxy looking to me (though others think he is) but Bel is very foxy in looks and behaviour.   If you don't know what a Shiba-Inu is, well, you can check out this webpage http://blackcrest.com/shiba1.html   which is the breeder who bred my beloved "familiar" Toby. Toby looks just like his sire: Tenku Go Etchou....(its a long name, forgive me for shortening it).   Shibas are the smallest and oldest of the Japanese breeds, basically a smallish Akita. They are cute, but as they always say at Westminster when announcing the breed: these are not the dogs for everyone. If you want a super smart dog with a killer's instincts (they were bred to hunt small game), a dog who tends to be aloof with strangers, a dog who steals things, a dog who won't come when called, well, then get a Shiba! Otherwise, you might want a more biddable dog, though shiba antics are always entertaining to those of us who love them.   An example of Shiba madness: for the recent equinox, I left some offerings on the altar. A bit of beer in a glass, some chocolate eggs. Bel, the puppy, is supremely interested in everything on the altar, and because she can leap about three times her height, well, things go missing. Sure enough, I went downstairs in the morning and found the beer glass neatly tipped over and empty, the chocolate eggs gone. (and yes, I do know about the dog/chocolate problem--so note to self--no more offerings of chocolate!)   While I suspect a little shiba puppy of this, as one of my friends said, the gods have accepted the offering--by way, perhaps, of a dog. And certainly, it was as if a wild fox-spirit had come in, rearranged a bit, and took the offerings.   When I figure out how to get my photos hosted somewhere I'll post pics of my fox-dogs.   I also promise poetry on this, so here is a start--a poem about Toby, from my third book (as yet, sigh, unpublished, though the poem was published in the mag. Zone 3):   Toby in the Garden   The devil’s in the garden again. Trampling the herbs-- lavender and lamb’s ears. When he’s done, he’ll pace the window sill, scratching to get in. Or leap to the roof, surveying his domain. Sure, he’s cute--curl of a tail, and puppy swagger. Sweet. Until he sinks his teeth into the skin behind the knee. Little heathen. Devil dog. Just like the men I love: beautiful and fierce, trailing just a bit of brimstone.   Keep your plaster saints. Angels are overrated. Who wouldn’t want a devil in their garden? That flashy charmer and the fruit that flourishes in his hand. He offers it all with a grin, says, come, taste, live a little. Sin.
