  1. I was really apprehensive about this, because I'm not a huge fan of rose scents (though I love the smell of the flowers themselves.. go figure). But I ordered it in hope and a wild leap of faith :P

It paid off. This smells so close to the real thing-- I love it! It's sweet and a little sharp and gorgeous. Very green. Actually, the smell reminds me of starfruit!

    So going on my pillow..

  2. … blues falling down like hail
And the day keeps on remindin' me, there's a hellhound on my trail …

August 16th marks the day the Devil came to call on the King of the Delta Blues.

Bay rum, bourbon vanilla, galangal, hyssop, High John the Conqueror root, tobacco, life everlasting, and brimstone.

Am I really the first to review this? :P Wow! If I'm not, mods, please merge topics cos... I didn't see another thread for this, anyway.

So! Hellhound on My Trail. I have been waiting not-so-patiently for this one. I snapped up a bottle unsniffed and trusting, because it reminded me of Dean Winchester, and I'm a bit of a fangirl-- not to mention I love the Lab's bay rum note!

And the verdict? I love this scent. Love it. It's spicy and smoky, with a hint of something a little bit sweet but heavy that I'm assuming is the bourbon vanilla. The bay rum adds a big hit of cinnamon-spiciness to it that I love, and I've rarely been so glad to amp a note so much (it's the Pisces in me - amps alcohol ;P). The brimstone makes this wonderfully musky and smoky without being completely overpowering, and the rest adds a depth to it that works well even though I can't pick out individual notes beyond the ones I've mentioned.

In other words, as soon as I have the cash, I need a back-up bottle of this, because it's gonna be getting a lot of wear. :D

  3. This is officially my favorite BPAL chocolate scent. Period.

It smells like hot chocolate with a dash of cinnamon, and it has pretty amazing throw! It's strong, but so sweet that it's in a good way. And it lasts. I have the Amazing Disappearing Scent Complex, but it's been about twelve hours since I last applied any of El Dia de Reyes, and I can still smell a dusty warm chocolate on the back of my hands where I applied it, like cocoa powder when you stir it up scooping some out for hot chocolate. That's exactly what it smells like, twelve hours later.

This stuff's amazing. :P I suddenly wish I'd bought more than one bottle!

  4. I ordered a bottle of this unsniffed, and... wow. :D

At first, it smells kind of cologne-y on me, but in a good way - I like it, actually. It only takes a couple of minutes to change, though, fading into a sweet brass. I didn't look at the description before I tested it, but the only name I could come up with for the smell was "brass"!

I really, really like this. :P It's definitely a keeper. I've always liked the smell of metal and motor oil (weird, I know :D).

  5. ..eek. Eek.

In the imp, this is very sweet, but not really what I'm looking for..

    On me, though, it's awful. D: It smells exactly like my dentist's office. A very chemical, heavy, plastic, medical scent that's driving me batty (I'm... rather afraid of doctors and the like). Freakin' me out! ><;

ETA: It has now morphed into medical, chemical play-doh. D:

  6. Got a frimp of this from the lab - I was planning on buying an imp sooner or later, so this is great!

In ze imp: Sweet cinnamon, I think. I wasn't paying enough attention. :D

Wet: OMG Cinnamon! :P It smells like cinnamon candies!

Dry: Softer cinnamon, and something else, but I can't tell what. Gorgeous and spicy.

This is definitely bottle-worthy. I can live with smelling this spicy and great! :)

ETA: Wow, this is so good... I want to slather it everywhere possible ;) but a brief warning: I applied it in the cleavage area, and while there isn't any rash, it stings a little bit for a while. In the future, I'll avoid doing this, ha.

Also, in the scent locket, this is very sweet cinnamon - a nice counterpoint to the stronger stuff on my skin. :D

  7. Bottle: :D Something sharp and kind of icky! I don't know what it is, though.

Wet: ...lemon candy? I smell like lemon candy! :P

Dry: Lemon candy and... I think I smell flowers. But mostly lemon candy.

I really like this. :D Not for the intended purpose, unfortunately, but it is a really.. cute scent. I like it. :)

  8. Ooh. Yay costume parties? :D

I'm dressing up this Halloween... well, I do every year, but last year nobody thought I was dressed up because my costume was rather bland. Sigh.

This year, I'm going as a catgirl - aka Random Loveless Character #312. Yukata, cat ears, tail, the works.

And... I have no idea what scent to wear! :P I thought of Hellcat, but I tried that recently and it just does not work on me at all (evidently I amp almond to extremes). I'm considering Schrodinger's Cat, though... not sure yet.

    Any ideas? :D

  9. In the imp/wet: OMG apple. Lots and lots of apple! I love it! :P

Drying down: Soft apples. Not much throw. D: I wish it had more. Either way, though, I might need a bottle of this - I love the smell of apples. And maybe it'll stick around and play nice more if I slather it...

ETA: Totally dry, this is a woodsy apple - I'm imagining an abandoned apple farm, with rampant green up and around the apple trees.

In the locket, this is a very pure, sweet sugared apple. The combination is great - bottle for sure.

  10. In my excitement over the Norns (I'm a myth geek, as well as an Ah! My Goddess fan :D), I ordered imps of all three in my last order. Tonight I tried Skuld, the first one.

In the imp and wet, this was way too sweet - it was almost sick-sweet, like a whole lot of sugary candies. Eek! But I persevered, and determined to wait it out and see if it got better.

I'm glad I did! :P It dried into a sweet, softly musky and almost floral scent, which I really like. The throw is still candied, though. I don't know if this is a bottle scent yet (I'll have to try it again), but I'll at least be keeping the imp around.

  11. Luminescent, glowing, and otherworldly: green mandarin, neroli, honeydew, white amber, guava, freesia, white and green musks hovering over desert scrub, smashed wood, and the dry, biting scent of night air over the Groom Lake salt flats.

Got this imp because... well, I'm a huge fan of The X-Files, so I couldn't resist. :P

Wet, this is very light and fruity. I love it!

Dry, it comes down a bit, but it's still very fruity and punchy, with just the slightest, most intriguing hint of what I can only imagine must be "alien musk" in the background (clever little devils, hiding behind the scrub!).

It doesn't have a long lifespan on me - about as long as it takes the mothership to take off again, I'm sure - but I can just keep dousing myself in it, no problem. Definitely bottle-worthy.

  12. Wet/Imp: HOMG almond. Almond and hazlenut, and that's it, and strongly.

Dry (10 mins): Still all almond and hazlenut, strong enough to knock me over.

Dry (an hour or so): Softer now, faded, but still all hazlenut and almond and very strong. I'll keep the imp, but this isn't something I'd want a bottle of. D:

  13. Oh jeez, I love this. :P

In the imp and wet, it's all brighthappyOMGOMG fruity! Then it dries down into a slightly more subdued brighthappyOMG grapefruit/tangerine mix with.. some other elements I just can't place, but it's delightful and bright and sunny.

I'm not getting any chocolate, and maybe just the tiniest hint of a mintyness in the background, but that's fine by me. :D This is a happy, upbeat scent, and I'm definitely gonna need a bottle!

  14. I always follow the advice in this thread for any order that I place, always seems to work well :D Not sure about the address, I always just let Paypal automatically include my address and don't mention it in the notes.

Oh, thank you! :D I didn't see that thread. That really helps.

Morrighana, thanks also :P Now I know what I'm doing.

  15. I have a question, and I couldn't find anyplace more appropriate to ask it. *wince* So, I'm sorry if this is the wrong place.

Now that I've got Paypal, I'm planning on sending money for an order (my biggest order yet *fret*), but... I've never sent money via Paypal for something like this before! D:

I was wondering how I should write out what I want. Should I put it like this, in the notes?:

    ' 5ml - Dee

    5ml - Jazz Funeral

Imp Pack - Skuld, Urd, Verdandi, Sea of Glass, Whip, Lolita'

Or should I list the imp pack like this?:

    ' Imp Pack:

    Skuld

    Urd

    ...etc.'

Also, I was wondering... would I include the shipping address in the notes, as well? One of the (two) orders I'm making is for a friends' birthday, so it's going to be sent to her house. That... seems like common sense, I suppose, but I'm afraid of making a mistake!

Thanks so much for any help you guys can give me! */noob*

  16. Wet / In Scent Locket: Warm, spiced rum with a little bit of cinnamon and a heady backdrop of flowers.

Dry / On Me: Much the same, but the flowers come out to play a bit more - I seem to amp most flowers at least a little bit. I can kind of smell the moss, too, and maybe the dirt.

Jazz Funeral was the second scent I ever tried (the first being Siren), and I adore it. It takes almost three hours to fade from the back of my hand (this while I'm working, so it'd probably last longer in a non-work environment), but even so, I was able to enjoy it all day in my scent locket. :P

  17. On wet, I'm smelling musk, and.. is that chocolate? It smelled a lot like chocolate. But I looked up the notes, and.. no, nothing chocolatey. The musky scent turned out to be the jasmine, though.

Dry-down, floral vanilla. Can definitely smell the vanilla pretty strongly, with the musky floral of the jasmine in the background. I don't know ginger as a note, really, so I can't honestly tell if that's there or not.

All in all, I like the scent - which is strange, since I'm not usually a big fan of vanilla. But hey! It's a good one, and it's the very first BPAL I've ever tried!
