    Snow Scents!

Snow Moon Talvikuu Skadi Snow Bunny Archangel Winter Snow-Flakes Frost Moon (though this was very eucalyptusy on me) Old Moon (or so I hear-- I still want to experience it for myself!) The Snow Storm (Ditto) Things I assume will be snowy but no description: Snowball Fracas Pink Snowballs The First Soft Snow To be honest, Snow White actually doesn't smell snowy to me. It smells peaceful, but not slushy, but mileage clearly varies on this!

    País de la Canela

Pine and dry cinnamon bark. The more it wears, the more I can catch the faintest whiffs of old-school Hamadryad. I like this one and will likely wear it a lot this Yule season!

    fizzy, sorta carbonated, sparkling blends?

Titania is this way for me.

    Bathsheba

I dug this from my neglected imps pile this afternoon. I vaguely remember it being soft plum and carnation. But after about a years' worth of aging, it was soft plum and soft musk. No carnation in sight. It does smell a little soapy. Boo, I guess this is one that's best fresh.

    Glasgow

The rich scent of wild blackberry breezing over gentle rosy heather. Light, tart blackberries over a bed of lightly-perfumey greenery. More fresh than floral. Smells a little bit like Philosophy's 'Falling in Love.'
  6. My husband is an avid snowboarder and LOVES the great outdoors in winter. What are your favorite pine/fir/trees/snow scents that have a masculine edge? I have Talvikuu (and will likely hunt him down his own bottle) but am open to other suggestions-- BPAL and otherwise. Help me enable my man with the scent of wintry forests!

    Cristina

On me, this is very subtly foody-- I do smell the chestnuts and a warm, toasted scent-- underscored by a little bit of white musk. Quite nicer than I'd been expecting! Very sophisticated and elegant.

    Boo

I agree with Cuervo-- this is pretty much Chaste Moon 2.0. A light cream with a little bit of the roundness of marshmallow. Not too caramelly that I can't wear it, but still quite foody. I like it but suspect my husband will like it more.

    Under the Harvest Moon

I definitely smell the blue musk and the carnation. The amber and vanilla are more of an afterthought, a very subtle sweetener for this dry, floral scent. It's pretty enough for floral lovers, but not full and voluptuous enough for my tastes.

    Pumpkin II (2009)

This works unexpectedly well! It almost smells like two single notes layered together-- pumpkin and tea rose-- but the pumpkin warms and the tea rose gives it a nice, refined air. It's delicious!

    Mircalla, Countess Karnstein

Mostly red musk and clove. After wearing it for about an hour, there's not a whole lot of vanilla or patchouli in there. It's dryer than I expected it to be after first sniff. I don't like it as much as Mme. Moriarity or Snake Oil for his reason and will probably swap it.

    Pomona

Started out with a very punchy sweetened nuts note, like hazelnut. Of which I'm not so much of a fan. Luckily, that died off really quickly and gave way to a warm, delicious scent of apples and pomegranate with some spicy mulberry in the background. Delicious. Moderate throw. However, it only lasted about 2 hrs.

    Pumpkin I (2009)

On me, this was very sweet-- it reminds me of the topping on top a streudel or pie, like pecan pie, maybe. Honey + almonds with a little spice from pumpkins. On me, I could barely smell the musk. It stops just short of being too foody. I KNOW. It smells just like the warm cinnamon nuts at RenFest! MMMMM.

    The Shattered Pumpkin

This actually works quite nicely on me. I get a spicy, cinnamony pumpkin undercut with a thick sappy green scent and just a hint of leather. It's very realistic and naturey on my skin-- very evocative!

    Saw-Scaled Viper

My skin really amps vanilla, so the vanilla in the Snake oil + the cinnamon and cassis make this smell very much like Monster Bait: Underbed or even the little impie of Pumpkin King I have. Only with a little bit more of a bite-- the red ginger. As it mellows, it doesn't smell much like Snake Oil at all, though it does have a sort of resinous roundness to it. Firey, warm, and very slightly gourmand. Nice. It's really pretty, and I got an immediate 'you smell awesome' from my boyfriend. AHA! I just realized that the drydown smells JUST LIKE old school Hamadryad before it got all Ben Gay!

Autumn Scents - recommend the ones you love

Way back in the day, my go to was Hamadryad. And then it started to mysteriously smell of ben gay. Now I stick to Snake Oil, Pumpkin Queen, and other 'Weenies. I like Devil's night quite a lot and can only use Samhain in moderation (SOOOO STRONG).

    L'Autunno

Apple, fig, fresh air, and a TEENY bit of spices. I have tried most, if not all, of the lab's Autumnal blends. This is BY FAR my favorite.

    The Gibbous Moon

The initial sniff was very promising-- ethereal and pretty. A very strong moonflower note with a nice cucumber base and a little bit of moss. I think it was the lily that killed this one for me on the skin. It went stridently ozone/ soapy after about ten minutes, completely indistinguishable from other aquatic blends that BPAL has put out. Generic. Pooh. I wanted to like this.

    War

Spicy! And very dry. From War, I got the driest ginger I have ever smelled combined with a a super-dose of black pepper. I wouldn't call it gourmand necessarily, but it was very savory. The red musk note lasted the longest, becoming more prominent after the spices wore off. It also sweetened a bit on the drydown-- the honeysuckle, most likely, which was not at all evident in the wet stage. Overall-- it's a pleasant spicy scent, and unisex, but very dry indeed.

    Fairy Market

Definitely a morpher! This one started out very perfumey-- florals and what smelled like sweaty leather over a thin plummy/berry base. But as it wears on, it gets complex and beautiful! The sugared candy note is to die for mixing with a faint green grass note-- fae indeed. The incense smells purple to me, not golden-- in fact, the drydown is similar to Morgause, which was the purplest perfume I've ever smelled. All of the notes form a olfactory cacophony that ends up greater than the sum of the parts-- it has a real festival feel and would be perfect for a RenFaire or carnival. Better yet, I got no lavender! Thumbs up for this one, both for uniqueness and for scent!

    Hermia

Peppery floral amber. Kind of like a slightly lighter Hymn to Proserpine. The only difference is that it starts with a bright honey note instead of a tangy pomegranate one. Indeed, the drydown is nearly identical, and overall much warmer than it starts. It starts prim and sweet, and ends a full-throated siren.

    Days of the Week BPAL

I'm not Christian, but there's something so perfectly Sunday-morning-y about Eden.
  23. 51 smells very similar to Hungry Ghost Moon. The only difference is that the citrus is made more green by honeydew, instead of a bright champagne-yellow that the white grapefruit created.

    Squirting Cucumber

Cucumber salad. Straight-up cucumber salad. I didn't get much of a grass note, but I did get some of the cool smoothness of aloe. And I was suprised at how long it lasted on me-- generally fresh scents evaporate on me posthaste, but it's been 4 hours, and the scent is still going strong. It's really unique. I like it a lot, and would be great for layering with summer favorites like The Star or Tulzscha.
  25. On my skin, Dana O'Shee is O + sweet almond.
