  1. I had a couple of imps of this laying around from a few years ago, so I decided to give it a try.

Just after applying, it's grassy, watery, fresh. A bit soapy, in a good way.

After a few hours, the soapiness is gone and I'm left with a nice grassy/herbal floral. Sweet yet earthy and subtle. I'd like to try this one again. Kind of sad I missed out on it while the Lab was still making it, because it's definitely one I'd consider bottle-worthy.

  2. I accidentally spilled some of this on the back of my hand earlier, and I'm kind of glad that I did, because now I don't have to try it and spend a full day smelling it.

Smells very sweet in the bottle, like strawberries. Not my usual kind of thing.

On, it quickly turns to a sickly sweet vanilla with an undertone of strawberry. It's very plasticky and reminds me of a little girl's scented doll or something. Ugh. Definitely not for me!

  3. Snow Bunny smells very piney and even a little citrusy (grapefruit, maybe?) on me at first. After a few minutes, that fades into the background and the "girlie perfume" starts to come out. It ends up sweet and is definitely very girly, but it fades quickly -- I've had to reapply every two or three hours.

  4. I received a frimp of Morocco from a lovely lady here on the forum. It was a pleasant surprise, as this isn't the type of scent I would normally choose for myself. Snake Oil does not work on me, and hearing the two compared so often led me to think Morocco would end up badly as well... but I was wrong! Morocco is creamy, spicy, mysterious and just divine. Like others have said, it's a very faint scent, so I'll definitely have to slather when I wear it.

:P Mad love for the Morocco!

  5. Metal Phoenix smells like a lighter, airier version of Kataniya the Clockwork Woman (which is one of my favorite BPALs of all time.) Unfortunately for me, it seems to share a certain note in common with a lot of the aquatics that I've tried, which made it turn a little bleach-y on me. After a few hours, the aquatic note faded away. This is a cool, delicate scent that fades fairly quickly (or did on me, anyway.)

  6. In the bottle, Candy Phoenix smells bright and juicy and sweet, yet tart at the same time. However, on my skin it loses the nice fruitiness and morphs into something chemical-y and sickly sweet. I wish it had retained the tartness; after a few hours it's just too sweet for me!

  7. Mme. Moriarty smelled almost completely like patchouli when I put it on. :P However, as the day wore on, the patchouli faded and I was left with a warm and spicy scent. It's been about twelve hours since I first put it on, and it's still going strong. The spiciness has faded and I'm left with mostly red musk, vanilla bean, and faint spices.

Overall, I think Mme. Moriarty is a pretty nice scent, but it's not a "me" kind of scent. I would love it on someone else, but it's not the kind of thing I want to wear myself.

  8. Does anyone know of a BPAL scent that's similar to the BBW "Moonlight Path"? Here's what their site says about the notes...

    • Fragrance Top Notes: Bergamot, Lavender, Mandarin, Coriander

    • Fragrance Mid Notes: Rose, Jasmine, Violet, Tuberose, Ylang, Lily of the Valley

    • Fragrance Base Notes: Sandalwood, Vetiver, Oakmoss, Vanilla, Amber, Musk

I am pretty much a BPAL "virgin", but I do equate MIDNIGHT with the B&BW's "Moonlight Path"...

here is the lab's description of Midnight:

An ethereal bouquet of night-blooming flowers. Evening primrose, ruellia, flowering nicotiana, wild petunia, panani-o-kai, night phlox, night gladiolus, moonflower and the elusive scent of Nottingham Catchfly

Ooh, I wouldn't have thought to try that one. Thanks! I'm going to add it to my wishlist. :P

  9. I knew I'd want a bottle of this before I tried it on! It smells heavenly in the imp. White musk can do no wrong with me. :P 51 is a refreshing green scent. It's a little bit fruity and a little bit floral with lots of fresh air mixed in. Perfect for a summer night. Like some others have said, this one is a bit more "commercial" smelling, so it's quite different from other BPAL scents, but it is no less spectacular. A keeper for sure.

  10. Wet, this smells like damp earth and grass. This threw me off a little... the dirt scent was pleasant but not really what I wanted to smell like all day! After an hour or two, the dirt scent faded completely and I was left with a sweet herbal scent... grasses and honey. Mmm. This reminds me of a field after a rainstorm... no sign of any stormy seas here.

  11. This smells just like a bouquet of freshly cut flowers, or walking by the garden in the springtime. There is definitely a sharp green note. After a few hours, the sweetness of the flowers and beeswax comes out more and the sharp note fades, but it doesn't disappear completely. If the sharp note were gone, this would be perfect for me, but it's a little too much for me as it is. I'll be interested to see how this ages.

  12. I can smell the lavender and balsam very strongly at first, but after a just a few minutes, they calm down and the violet and narcissus come out, making it a much sweeter scent. It mellows out quickly, the balsam retreating completely into the background and making way for the sweet flowers.

  13. There is something strangely incense-like about this one. It reminds me of a new age/occult bookstore that I go to sometimes. :P The sugar is nice, but everything else about this one is off with me.

  14. In the bottle: Citrus all the way.

On: Butterflies and Plovers smells just like a tangerine to me! And not just the fruit, the whole thing -- peel, pith, and all. After a few hours the citrus scent fades and it becomes woody and almost masculine. This was quite different from what I was expecting, but the wood scent is strangely comforting, so I enjoyed this one quite a bit.

  15. Peach, peach, and more peach! This is a fantastic scent for summer. The peach smells ripe and juicy, and there is the musk in the background. (I have no idea what amber and myrtle smell like, so I can't comment on those. :P ) This is a very uplifting scent, but it fades quickly on my skin. As long as I keep reapplying, it's wonderful. :D

  16. In the bottle: lavender

On: lavender with a hint of violet. The scent is a bit sharp, hopefully it will calm down after a while...

Later: The sharpness does go away, but now it just smells like soap to me. Nice lavender soap, but still soap.

  17. Wet, I can smell the sandalwood and bergamot very strongly. After a few minutes, the sandalwood begins to blend with the violet, chamomile, and rosewood. The bergamot fades away but lingers in the background. After wearing it all day, it has really begun to smell like Marie to me, but perhaps slightly more woody and herbal. I love Marie, but sometimes it's a little too sweet for me, so Libertine might be a good alternative for the days where I don't want to smell so sugary. I'll have to test them both out at the same time to compare them better. I was expecting this to be a masculine scent, so I'm really glad that it's not!

  18. In the bottle, Red Lantern smells extremely sweet, good enough to eat! It's all caramel and coconut and tobacco. On me, it starts out as very sweet caramel with an overlay of smokiness on top. After a few minutes, the sweetness of the caramel blends with the smoky dirty scent.

This scent makes my mouth water every time I sniff it! It's delicious, but it's not something I can see myself wearing again.

  19. La Vita Nuova starts out sharp and lemony. It really reminds me of Delirium (no surprise there, I guess, given the similar notes.) Later the lemon fades away and the grape comes out. After a few more hours the lemon starts coming out again. It still reminds me of Delirium, but it's a bit sweeter.

It's a clean and fresh scent, good for spring or summer.

  20. Reminds me of Calico Jack in the imp. Once I put it on, I can pick out a few things... cedar, pine, balsam... occasionally I get a whiff of something that reminds me of grapefruit. After a few hours it starts smelling sweet. Are there flowers hiding in there somewhere? Overall, though, it's very woodsy and calming.

  21. Frumious Bandersnatch smells completely different than what I had imagined based on the name. It smells delicious in the imp, but it reminds me of a candle.

When I put it on, I can smell the spices (cinnamon!) even more, but they quickly fade into the background.

Later, even with the spices almost gone, I still smell like a candle. :P
