Chaos Theory IV: Edge of Chaos

CCCLXVI I am getting grapefruit. Tart wonderfully sour citrus. It turns sweeter as it dries. I think this one will be great for days when I need a pick me up.

    Glasgow

No berries for me, just sharp florals. It dries down nicely to a soft floral.

    Bien Loin D'Ici

This is bottle worthy. No, make that VAT worthy. Barrel worthy. Never ending supply worthy. Yes, I think this one will be in the top 10... It starts out sweet, almost cloyingly so... but then it deepens and becomes more resin-y. The honey comes out and it is seriously gorgeous. Definitely one of the best GCs I have tried in a long long time.

    Severin

It's probably a good thing that this was discontinued before I had a chance to try it... Severin is lovely. It starts out very lemony but settles into that Earl Grey perfume-y kind of scent. I hated Earl Grey for the longest time and then one day, it suddenly tasted like heaven. That's what Severin smells like. It's warm and soft. My only problem with it is that it fades far too quickly. 2 hours later, I can still detect it on my wrist, but not by much.

    Poisoned Apple

What a magnificent scent! It starts out crisp ripe apple, tart and juicy... but what is that right beneath the surface? Something sinister and biting hides, On drydown, the scent turns a bit powdery, almost with a hit of floral. It is lovely... and many thanks to my dearest Witch for gifting me with Poisoned Apple!!

The Contract of Theophilus of Adana

Oh, wow this is so gorgeous!!! It's got a sinister kind of sweetness. The incense is lilting and the musk hugs the edges. I LOVE this.

    Violens

Beautiful sandalwood and musk. I love this.

    Pink Moon 2007

Sugar and spice and carnations.... LOVE.

    Lucretia

This is positively the most potent Violet I have ever smelled!!! It reminds me of the Violet candy I used to love to sniff but hated to eat (because it tasted like soap and I don't care what anyone says- IT DID!!!). I have just smeared Violet candy on my arm with application of Lucretia. This is just lovely. If you are a serious fan of violet (the flower, NOT the candy... bleccch), this is the scent for you. Pure. Violet.

    Bayou

Within 5 minutes of application, Bayou made my nose start running. It took me another 20 minutes to hunt the damned thing down and catch it. Bayou is in-your-face-and-down-your-throat heady flowers. I picked up jasmine, magnolia and gardenia (and the combination is enough to cross your eyes permanently). After it dried down, I got moss and slimy algae creeping into the mix of flowers. At that point, I washed it off as best I could. The Bayou is not for me.

    Cthulhu

Super clean scent. Just fresh from the shower soapy scent.

    Love and Pain

This is sweetened lavender- it's reminding me of something from my childhood. It turns slightly powdery and develops a bit of a bite (which I think is the tobacco) but I like it. It's a very comforting fragrance.

    Sachs

Sachs starts out screaming CHAMOMILE but soon shuts up and lets the vanilla through. It is very subtle after all the screeching stops and I realize that I need a refreshing of scent after just a few hours. If you can get past the shouting in the beginning, Sachs is quite lovely.

    Madonna

Arrrrrgh! I need single notes so I can tell what I am sniffing. This is making me nuts! As best I can tell... there's something sharply floral- I can taste it- it's that strong. Behind that, something that is mostly green (iris?) that tones down the razor sharpness. After that, there's a hint of something clay-like or plastic in nature. The phases that this fragrance evolves through are just breathtaking. I don't think that I would wear this scent but it is magnificent in its presentation.

    Sunflower

Oh, wow- this is interesting! Wet, it is an extreme sharp sweetness. As it dries, there is a powder element that is in the forefront. I detect something that is fruity as well. Am I picking up amber too? I don't know but the end of the sniff has definite amber potential. All the different notes stack one behind the next in one big whiff. I don't know that I've ever smelled anything quite like it. And I DO like it.

    Miskatonic University

Butterscotch. Nuts. Taco shells. Enough of this one.

    Cobra Lily

I keep reading about the spicy/heady/strong/sharpness of the scent. I got pretty floral that vanished in 45 minutes. Apparently the Cobra in my Lily just wants to snooze. Oh, well. Nice while it lasted.

    Lightning

Another thumbs down... Lightning starts off fresh and clean but develops a bit of a sour edge on drydown. It DOES remind me of dryer sheets. Sort of.

    Priala, the Human Phoenix (2006)

This smelled like burnt plastic when wet and dried down to a smoky fire that has been doused with old time root beer. DO NOT LIKE.

    Faiza, the Black Mamba (2006)

This is a very powerful scent, not to be worn lightly. It is musk and sandalwood and amber, all rolled up into a bombshell fragrance. I can't see myself wearing this very often, but when I want to be THE woman in the room, Faiza will be the scent I reach for.

    Lovers in a Ricefield

In the imp, this is wonderful vanilla and sandalwood. On application and drydown, it turns sickeningly sweet. I had such high hopes...

    Tiger Lily

Nice! This starts off as primarily honey and dries down to a lovely soft floral. Very light, though, but I still like it.

    Burial

    Two words: Hamster cage.

    Neptune

Definitely not for me. Smells like soap on application and then instantly turns sweet. 30 minutes later, it has morphed into a masculine scent with a wood background. This would probably smell great on a guy.

    Lick It

Everybody else has pretty much said it- Lick It starts out uber peppermint and then dries down to a sweet vanilla sugar. It lasts a lot longer than I would have expected. I just wish that it retained even a hint of the peppermint.
