    Euterpe

I ordered Euterpe for two reasons - I love the smell of carnations in my garden and wanted to try a couple of blends containing the oil, and I have a friend who is really very musical and creative and I wanted to check out how this smelt before possibly getting a bottle for her. It's lovely! Don't get me wrong - I haven't sat down and composed a cello concerto or anything (hee!) - but Euterpe dries down to the smell of spicy Sweet Williams - that faint whiff of sweet cloves - with a creamy hint of white musk. I dont' get any lemon from it at all. I'll definitely keep this imp and I'll almost certainly buy a 5ml for my friend. I don't think she really wears perfume, but then, neither did I until a couple of months ago! This is just what I was hoping for from a carnation blend. I don't know how long-lasting it is, as I've only been wearing it for about 30 minutes, but it hasn't disappeared yet.

    Aizen-Myoo

I don't really know how to describe what I'm smelling when I sniff Aizen-Myoo. I really liked the name, and the mention of cherry blossom and black tea sounded nice in the description. However, this is one of my 'disappointment' blends. This has a sweet, slightly synthetic smell on my skin that I don't find pleasant. I can't relate what I'm smelling to the 'citrus' that most people seem to use to describe this scent. I think my nose needs training!! This will be swapped off to someone who may like it more than I do.

    Mad Hatter

Minty! This one smells exactly like buttery Murray Mints when I first apply it. yum. It fades after 10 minutes or so, and I can smell something like tea. It's not listed, but I do wonder if all of the tea party scents have some sneaky tea hiding somewhere in them? I don't really get lavender or citron from this scent - maybe just the faintest whiff of lavender 30 minutes in when the mint has faded somewhat. Now it smells faintly of a packet of Murray mints sitting near a cup of tea. Nice. I'll definitely keep the imp. Oh, and I definitely don't find this to be a particularly masculine scent.

    Les Fleurs du Mal

I received this as a frimp from the lab. A very soft-smelling floral. It doesn’t smell overly rosy on me - the lilac and wisteria are definitely ahead of the rose here, and the pink rose is just hanging around in the background. I see this scent as a soft lilac colour, with some tiny gold flecks glittering around it. It's got quite a strong throw - I dabbed a tiny swipe on the back of my hand and I can smell the florals wafting up at me as I type. A very feminine, womanly scent. Not an absolute favourite, but I'll keep the imp for when I feel the need to smell all flowery and womanly.

    Les Bijoux

This was a frimp from a lab order. Not a scent that made it to my wishlist due to the 'honey' note listed. Me and honey aren't good friends! Wet - Les Bijoux smells very fruity and cool. It's pleasant, although I haven't fallen in love with it. And it dries with no hint of the 'off' smell that honey usually turns into on me! [ten minutes later] Uh-oh. I take it back. The honey is sneaking in and making this smell nasty. What is that all about?! Off to swaps.

    Regan

I think this scent may include honey, despite it not being listed as a note. Unfortunate, as honey just does not play nice with me. I washed Regan off about 10 minutes after applying it, as the 'off' smell that I usually associate with honey was making me feel nauseous. I'll add to my swaps list so that someone can love Regan properly.

    Lurid

Shocking, horrific, fierce, savage, sensationalized, luminous and hazy: black currant, Bulgarian lavender and white musk with a dollop of thick resin and a voltaic charge of ozone notes. I really cannot pick out individual notes in this oil. I get a rich minty lavender scent that's cool and glorious. There's a depth and slight fruitiness behind the wafting herby lavender, which I guess are the musk, resin and blackcurrant. But there's no mint listed! I think perhaps ozone just makes me think of mint, as I get a similar reaction to Neo-Tokyo, which also has no mint listed. And I've just realised that I'm saying mint, but I think I mean menthol... However, this is lovely on me, lasts very well and has much more throw than most other oils that I've fallen for. I tried Lurid in my ongoing mission to find a similar 'feeling' scent to the gorgeous Neo-Tokyo and this is the closest I've found so far. It also reminds me somewhat of King of Hearts - I guess I am picking out the currant without consciously realising it! A definite 5ml contender.

When your favorite GC blends are discontinued

I've just received an imp of Lurid, in my ongoing quest for a Neo-Tokyo replacement, and it has a similar cool feel to it as Neo-Tokyo. I don't think it shares any notes other than the ozone, so perhaps that's what I'm enjoying, but it's definitely gives me a similar feeling in my nose! I will continue the quest, but thought I'd add that suggestion to the mix.

    Bewitched

Luscious. A dark green and purple scent, but not at all heavy. I haven't tried many berry scents, but it if this is anything to go by, I love them! And I certainly get an image of being in the woods, watching a cauldron being stirred. It's not a 'wicked witch' scent, but it definitely evokes a 'witchy' image in my weird head. I keep sniffing my wrists to get a better huffle, so perhaps it doesn't have a strong throw, but that doesn't bother me. I don't like to think that I'm imposing my perfume on others. I really like this scent and will consider a 5ml.

    Cheshire Cat

Another Mad Tea Party scent that I can't stop sniffing after I've applied it! It's my first successful citrus - the lemony-citrus oils that I've tried have all gone to sour detergent on me, but this... this is lovely. It's a creamy citrus smell, not as vivid or astringent as grapefruit is on its own. I'm guessing the musk and maybe the lavender are toning it down and rounding it out. I can also smell the currant more and more the longer I wear it. It's a pink and yellow smell. Another one that I would be very tempted to get a 5ml of! Gorgeous.

    The King of Hearts

First impression - yummy! This is a scrumptious ripe cherry smell, but not at all sweet somehow. It's full and rounded and squishy and plumptious and I just want to keep sniffing it! Definitely a ripe red scent, with some deep purple berry colours lurking at the edges. I will wait until I've done another test, but first impressions are: 5ml please!

    Phantom Queen

I really can't pick out any individual scents in this. It smells soft but has considerable throw on me - a tiny amount on the back of one hand is still wafting up to my nose an hour after I put it on. However, the scent really doesn't do anything for me. It smells cool and kind of empty. It's more of a standard perfume smell than most of the BPALs I've tested. Off to swaps I think.

    Selkie

Hee! Love your Goth Detectives icon Monkey! Selkie is lovely. Some days there's just no other option for me but to wear Selkie. I smell cucumber but I think this is probably better described as melon, as other people have said. I see this scent as a light, wafting green colour - the image I get in my head when I smell it is of a deep rock pool, black rugged rocks, deep green water, with the seaweed that looks like mermaid's hair swaying in the depths. It's hard for me to separate out the different notes as this image is so vivid in my mind, that I can't break the scent down into constituent parts! I do find that the scent changes very little after drying and lasts ages. It's also got a stronger throw than most of the other scents that I love. This is one of my top 5. And some days it definitely takes the number 1 slot. I think it's probably a summer scent though - I think it may slip down the list a little as autumn and winter move in.

    Budding Moon

I keep calling this Pudding Moon. Oops. It doesn’t smell of pudding though. There's a definite 'budding' smell about it - it works well on me and lasts longer than most of the other oils that I like. It "smells" peony-pink - a deep slightly dusky pink. So glad I got a 5ml of this. ETA: I've found that this is the perfect scent for me to wear to my yoga class. It makes me feel relaxed but not sleepy and it really is a very lovely, comforting scent.

    Lemon, Lemon, Lemony Goodness

I'll second the Zephyr recommendation - I found that had a much creamier lemon smell than Phantasm (sherbet lemons) or Embalming Fluid (lemon detergent) on me, without being particularly foody. I also don't get any lemon from Dorian!

When your favorite GC blends are discontinued

I found Budding Moon to be similar. Kind of. Not much help as that's an LE. Sorry! I'm on the same mission to find a Neo-Tokyo replacement, as it's my absolute favourite, so thanks for posting the topic.

    The Lady of Shalott

Definitely gardenia. In fact, I can't really smell anything else when I first put this on. It's OK, but a bit too flowery-feminine for me, I think. In fact, as it dries, it smells like room air freshener. It doesn't suit me. I won't be buying a 5ml, and probably will swap the imp or give it to my aunt who loves gardenia and air freshener!

    Brown Jenkin

A freebie from the lab. Wet: Sweet sandalwood - similar to my sandalwood essential oil, but something is really adding a sweetness to it - the coconut husk perhaps? I don't know that smell or the smell of orris, so it's hard to say. It smells hot, dry and dusty. A little too sweet for me, but I'll give it another go one day. I don't think I'll be wearing this one though.

    Cthulhu

Frimp from the lab. This is intriguing. It's more of a 'standard' perfume smell than the other BPAL scents I've tried, and as I'm not really a perfume-y kind of gal, it's not doing much for me. The salt smell is there in the background and it does smell aquatic, but there's something hitting the back of my throat that's too cloying for my liking. Having read some of the other reviews, I think this scent is just too masculine for me. And considering the OH would look at me like I had tentacles coming out of my face if I suggested he wore any scent, I think this will be going up for swaps.

    Delirium

I got this as a freebie from the lab. Wet: A pleasant, light, clean smell, but nothing special and it disappears very quickly on my skin. A few minutes later and all I can smell is the faint hint of lemon detergent. Why do so many lemon scents do this to me?!
  21. laliloo

    Jailbait

Wet: A bright, pink splat of bubblegum on the face, right after a huge bubble has popped. Dry: The bubblegum smell disappears really quickly to be replaced by a faint hint of slightly spicy antiseptic again. It doesn't do anything nice for me! Swap pile.

    Undertow

Mint! Sweet minty mint. It smells like a paper bag of Mint Imperials that Nan used to buy for us on a Saturday morning. The juniper certainly isn't jumping out on me on this one. It definitely clears my head - probably a good scent for if I'm feeling a bit cold-ridden or even nauseous. I'll keep the imp, but won't be getting a 5ml.
  23. laliloo

    Djinn

Interesting. Smoky smelling in the imp, but much, much sweeter than I expected on my skin. I think it's a sweet cinnamon smell - it's definitely reminding me of something... one of the Yogi herbal teas I think. Yes, it smells very similar to Yogi's Bengal Spice tea. I can't imagine ever wearing this as a perfume - it's not 'me' at all. But it is an amazing blend that matches the description perfectly!

    Yggdrasil

I got this as a frimp with my last lab order. I haven't tried many 'woody' scents as yet. This one is more successful than Hamadryad that I was so disappointed with, but it still has a slightly 'medicated' smell on me that reminds me of a doctor's surgery, unfortunately. It is very woodsy when wet, but astringent and medicated once it dries.
  25. laliloo

    Dirty

ooh, the description for this one is spot on - light and breezy for sure. Dirty is a lovely summery day scent and has more throw on me than most of the 'light' oils. It does somehow manage to smell white and beautifully captures the smell of sheets snapping in the breeze while they dry on the line. Definitely keeping the imp. Will consider this as a 5 ml too. Edited: to remove use of too many 'definitely-s'!
