  1. I'm pretty sure that apples and I aren't meant to be together. No matter what apple forward scent I try, it ends up being way TOO BRIGHT and LOUD. But, the scent is beautiful... it's green with some tea for me.

Sending on the decant to someone that can love it.

  2. A green mist rolling over soft summer sage fields with a hint of sweetness to keep the memories fresh. The throw is not huge, but definitely a comforting and meditative scent. One of my faves for sure! I've had this aging since I bought it last September from lab, and everything has deepened.

  3. Hi ya!

    Here's some reco's for you:

51 - green mandarin, neroli, honeydew, white amber, guava, freesia, white and green musks hovering over desert scrub, smashed wood, and the dry, biting scent of night air over the Groom Lake salt flats.

Hungry Ghost Moon - sweet rice, ginger candy, sugar cane, smoky vanilla and rice wine mingle with a ghost's perfume of white sandalwood, wisteria, ho wood, ti, white grapefruit, and crystalline musk. This scent is tempered by the presence of ten herbs, woods and resins used in the purification of the spirit.

So, I used to sort of pick my scents by season-- certain scents, especially spicy, "heavy," and foody ones, make me think of Fall and Winter, and my collection fell heavily to that end of the spectrum. But now I've moved to southern California, and I rarely feel like wearing them any more! I still love the scents, but they just don't spell "perpetual summer" to me! So I'm trying to balance out my collection by adding some lighter and brighter fragrances, or fragrances with a spicy note that aren't super deep and heavy. To that end, what sort of Summery recommendations does this crew have for...

    - Asphodel (mourn!)

    - Green Phoenix (mourn!)

    - Litha 2006 (mourn!)

    - Xiuhtecuhtli

    - Somnus

Embalming Fluid really didn't work for me-- love it in the bottle, on my skin it goes a bit sour. I like citrus, lavender, and watery notes. I'm not very fond of rose, sandalwood, heavy musks, or patchouli.

  4. bumping this up as we've been granted with more sage lovelies!

Visions of Autumn VI - Oakmoss, lavender absolute, petitgrain, rockrose, white patchouli, and sage.

Pumpkin V - Pumpkins, pumpkin vines, and wild mushrooms with white sage, cade, sweetgrass, and vanilla-infused rosewood.

Amicitia - white sage and chaparral with sweet cedar, caramelized honey, warm fig, and carnation blossoms.

NOCHE BUENA (an older lovely) - A celebration of the Nativity: the light, uplifting incense of the Misa de Noche Buena, purple sage, and a vibrant bouquet of plumeria, chrysanthemum, tuberose, Angel's Trumpet, Mexican tiger lily, dahlia, and azucenas.

  5. The good thing is you have a list of notes that work on you, and do you also have a sense of what doesn't work? Here's a way to look at things:

Base notes: Patchouli, Musk (all kinds, or just some?), Vetiver, Amber

    Floral: Rose, Geranium, Jasmine, Orchid

    Food: Vanilla, Pink pepper

    Fruit: Orange

So do all variations work for you? For example, I can do musks but not red musk. I can do earthy like frankincense but not a ton of vetiver. How about in the fruit category? Have you tried plum, strawberry, melon, peach, apricot, etc?

Like you, I also tend to love the spicy fruit musk, almost Asian blends, and I try very hard to break my singular love. :-) In fact, most of your notes are my top faves, minus jasmine & rose although in the right scent it works.

Here's some things that have worked on me and are very different from above but similar in vein to what you mentioned. I underlined the notes that you can give a try:

    Oldies, hard to find

Selkie - The chill waters of the Orkney coast, tea-leaved willow, honey-touched Grass-of-Parnassus, sea aster, and Scottish Primrose.

Leo 07 - Egyptian amber, walnut bark, chamomile, frankincense, and saffron.

Agony of Heartache - Purple sage, red patchouli, blackberry, lemon blossom, and lime rind.

Diwali - Lotus root, mogra, mango, tamarind, cardamom, clove, almond milk, cashew, rice flower, coconut, supari, raisins, and incense crafted from aloeswood, red sandalwood, cedar, and spikenard

    Newbies, easier to find

Black Lotus - Black lotus flower, amber, myrrh and sandalwood.

Mr Ibis - Papyrus, vanilla flower, Egyptian musk, African musk, aloe ferox, white sandalwood.

All Saints - Based on a venerable French pontifical incense blend: monastic frankincense and myrrh, Damascus rose, Russian gardenia, cassia, and lily of the valley wafting on a chill Autumn wind.

Ezekiel’s Phoenix - wild plum, North African saffron, frankincense, pomegranate, limonite accord, and golden amber.

Famine - Sleek black tea, tobacco leaf, frankincense, lilac, and white musk.

Les Bijoux - Skin musk and honey, blood-red rose, orange blossom, white peach, red apple, frankincense and myrrh.

Ave Maria Gratia Plena - Rosewood with Sicilian lemon peel, red Mysore sandalwood, pale musks, sweet mountain sage and a dusting of lily, night-blooming jasmine and orris.

Bewitched - blackberry, sage, green tea, wild berries and dark musk.

    Good luck!

  6. Why repeat oneself when PurringPulsar & Akurarei said it best, Wood Phoenix is Australian Copperhead + Leo 07 love child. It's that perfect mix of musk, walnut, and a touch of berry bringing warmth, comfort with a slight touch of sultry goodness. I'm in love.

  7. Man what a weird experience, I read the notes and I'm like "yes, check", but once it dries I'm like "damn, that was disappointing". Some in there turns this into a weird icky sticky mess of a scent, I wonder if it's the nag champa or labdanum.

I think I'll hold on to this, and give it another try to be sure cause damn those notes should work on me!

  8. Naeelah summed it up perfectly, except I don't know Countess Willie but I do know Blood Countess, and Blood Countess and I are best friends! Like seriously dark purple musky goodness that I want to slather on 24x7. I could wear La Traviata day and night, and not feel out of place.

If you love a juicy fruit with a touch of musk, turning everything up to an 11 of pure sex! I keep thinking this is what Jada Pinkett wears in her Gotham role:

VERDICT: I NEED and MUST HAVE More!!!

  9. Resurrecting this thread as Asian-type scents are my absolute FAVES, especially what Beth and team make. I haven't bought anything recent since 2008 or so, and currently hoarding my Bakeneko, Tamamo No Mae, Fox Fires..., and others, so I'm seeking new recos. I'm seeking something that's somewhat easy to obtain, and notes wise I'm open! I love aquatics, musks, vanilla, and the wonderful asian flavors Beth throws in :-)

  10. Thanks for the recos! I have Berry Moon, and love it a ton! I'll have to put the others on my track down list :-)

This is fun and I would love some new recommendations... would love to find a replacement for Blood Countess!

    1. Blood Countess
    2. Tamamo No Mae
    3. Hungry Ghost Moon
    4. Morocco
    5. Neo-Tokyo

I'm also a sucker for O, Snake Charmer, and anything in that realm.

    1. The Hanging Garden (also discontinued), maybe Berry Moon? (I like Australian Copperhead's initial berry note, but it doesn't stay)

    2. Lovers in a Ricefield

    3. Street Festival

    4. This is a wild card recommendation, but I found the Coconut Tiare hair gloss made me think of Morrocco. Not that they have the same notes, but they give me a similar impression

    5. Holiday Moon

extras: Womb Furie, Le Petit Mort, and Le Lethe.

  11. Dragon Moon was very 'Neo-Tokyo-ish' on me. It's an LE - not too old, though - so if you can track down a decant, I'd give it a whirl. :P

btw, here are the notes from Dragon Moon: dragon’s blood resin, tea leaf, bamboo reed, sandalwood and cherry blossom.

And for Neo Tokyo: Urban metallics and an ozone-tinged breath of electric light mingled with reedy bamboo, crisp mountain air, cherry blossoms, delicate orchid and a splash of playful, wet fruits.

Some layering suggestions just by searching some ingredients:

    - Aizen Myoo: Yuzu, kaki, and mikan with cherry blossom and black tea.

    - Fox Woman leaving...: White tea, cherry blossom, wisteria, star jasmine, and teak.

    - Lantern Ghost of Oiwa: Black tea, cherry blossom, ho wood, calla lily, rice wine, and white mint.

    - Kyoto: A gentle, soothing blend of cherry blossom, white sandalwood and star anise.

  12. I've been on the same hunt!!! Sheer and white, not overly floral or fruity, just a nice, clean, fresh scent. Here's what I've liked, but some more than others:

The Tavern of Hell: This one may be a little heavy but it turned out quite fresh on me. White gardenia, ambergris bouquet, lavender fougere, orange blossom, melissa, tobacco flower, coriander, ebony wood, ylang ylang, absinthe and aged whiskey

The Apothecary: Tea leaf with three mosses, green grass, a medley of herbal notes, and a drop of ginger and fig.

51: This one is quite fresh! Luminescent, glowing, and otherworldly: green mandarin, neroli, honeydew, white amber, guava, freesia, white and green musks hovering over desert scrub, smashed wood, and the dry, biting scent of night air over the Groom Lake salt flats

The Pool of Tears: A sea of salty tears drowning out Alice's light floral perfume.

Tweedledum: don't let the patchouli fool you, the mango and green tea were the most prominent notes on me. Give it try. Absurd! Green mango, fig, patchouli and green tea.

The Ghost: This lists several flowers but it was quite faint and sheer on me. A thin, sinuous, creeping chill, the scent of glee-filled undeath: white iris, osmanthus, Calla lily, tomb-crawling ivy and a coffin spray of gladiolus, lisianthus and delphinium.

Zephyr: A gentle white scent, breezes laced with the scent of springtime blooms and citrus. Lemon, lemon verbena, neroli, white musk, white florals, white sandalwood, China musk, bergamot and a drop of vanilla.

  13. quickly...either I have a weird bottle or I'm blindly in love with Robin.

Sniff from bottle...yes, woods and mossy

On skin: OMG, this turn into sweet stuff! Not sure if it's the heather but I don't get overly floral notes in this at all.

Verdict for now...I will hold on to this and properly start hoarding imps to fill my lovely bottle.

  14. Just tried Cancer 07 and La Belle Au Bois Dormant recently and got a similar scent from each. For me, the peach is the strongest notes, so if you amp this and want to seek out an alternative try La Belle.

notes for La Belle: Plumeria and white pear, Damascus rose, tuberose, magnolia and evening dew.

notes for Cancer 07: Wild lettuce, wild pear, chamomile, germanica orris, sweet pea, and mallow
